RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: evaluate, through active call, lifestyles of an asymptomatic population in order to identify hyperglycaemic subjects and/or high-blood pressure sufferers to dispatch to their GP to perform suitable checking, and subjects to invite to a cardiovascular disease prevention programme because of their lifestyles. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: between January 2009 and July 2012, all healthy residents in the Local Health Authority of Este (ULSS 17 Este) aged 45-59 years were invited to join a cardiovascular disease prevention programme. DESIGN: all participants were evaluated through an administered lifestyle questionnaire. Parameters such as blood pressure (BP), glycaemia, waist circumference and body mass index were collected and recorded. Participants also received counseling, informational materials on lifestyle and were invited to individual or group health promotion initiatives in relation to personal risk factors. RESULTS: among the invited, 55.5% (3,922/7,071) adhered. Women (58.8%) responded significantly better than men (51.9%) (p <0,01). Subjects without risks factors were 16.7%. Subjects with lifestyle risk factors but normal BP and glycaemia were 49.4%, while those adding altered values for BP and glycaemia were 25.2%. The 8.6% of the respondents were not eligible for the study. CONCLUSIONS: the preliminary results suggest that a preventive programme based on the citizens active call by the Department of Prevention could be an effective tool to identify asymptomatic individuals with unknown hypertension and/or hyperglycaemia and to offer lifestyle interventions to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

RESUMO

Ongoing debates about ethical guidelines for autonomous vehicles mostly focus on variations of the 'Trolley Problem'. Using variations of this ethical dilemma in preference surveys, possible implications for autonomous vehicles policy are discussed. In this work, we argue that the lack of realism in such scenarios leads to limited practical insights. We run an ethical preference survey for autonomous vehicles by including more realistic features, such as time pressure and a non-binary decision option. Our results indicate that such changes lead to different outcomes, calling into question how the current outcomes can be generalized. Additionally, we investigate the framing effects of the capabilities of autonomous vehicles and indicate that ongoing debates need to set realistic expectations on autonomous vehicle challenges. Based on our results, we call upon the field to re-frame the current debate towards more realistic discussions beyond the Trolley Problem and focus on which autonomous vehicle behavior is considered not to be acceptable, since a consensus on what the right solution is, is not reachable.

RESUMO

The Video Browser Showdown addresses difficult video search challenges through an annual interactive evaluation campaign attracting research teams focusing on interactive video retrieval. The campaign aims to provide insights into the performance of participating interactive video retrieval systems, tested by selected search tasks on large video collections. For the first time in its ten year history, the Video Browser Showdown 2021 was organized in a fully remote setting and hosted a record number of sixteen scoring systems. In this paper, we describe the competition setting, tasks and results and give an overview of state-of-the-art methods used by the competing systems. By looking at query result logs provided by ten systems, we analyze differences in retrieval model performances and browsing times before a correct submission. Through advances in data gathering methodology and tools, we provide a comprehensive analysis of ad-hoc video search tasks, discuss results, task design and methodological challenges. We highlight that almost all top performing systems utilize some sort of joint embedding for text-image retrieval and enable specification of temporal context in queries for known-item search. Whereas a combination of these techniques drive the currently top performing systems, we identify several future challenges for interactive video search engines and the Video Browser Showdown competition itself.

RESUMO

Interactive video retrieval tools developed over the past few years are emerging as powerful alternatives to automatic retrieval approaches by giving the user more control as well as more responsibilities. Current research tries to identify the best combinations of image, audio and text features that combined with innovative UI design maximize the tools performance. We present the last installment of the Video Browser Showdown 2015 which was held in conjunction with the International Conference on MultiMedia Modeling 2015 (MMM 2015) and has the stated aim of pushing for a better integration of the user into the search process. The setup of the competition including the used dataset and the presented tasks as well as the participating tools will be introduced . The performance of those tools will be thoroughly presented and analyzed. Interesting highlights will be marked and some predictions regarding the research focus within the field for the near future will be made.
