RESUMO

In 30 pregnant healthy women and other 70 healthy but non pregnant the AA. study the mucociliary nasal transport-time, using the charcoal method. The conclusion drawn out is that during the pregnancy the transport-time is meaningly reduced and the pregnants shows characteristic nasal signs and symptoms.

RESUMO

We have studied olfaction in 20 laryngectomies, only 10 of which were supplied with phonatory prosthesis. We conclude that patients without prosthesis show a higher threshold for perception of pure olfactory stimulants, whereas in those provided with the prosthesis the pure olfactory threshold remains within normal values.

RESUMO

This is a case of a right cervical lump in a 19 years old woman, diagnosed of chondroid Syringoma, by means of Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology, and surgically treated. The AA. analyze clinical, histological, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of the theme and make a review of the present-day literature.

RESUMO

The AA. study the mucociliary transport time resorting to the vegetable coal dust method, in 64 individuals suffering seasonal allergic rhinitis, during the pollinosis epoch (1991-1992). This collective was divided in two groups according to the presence of hidrorrhea at examination: those subjects in whom the disease was considered in activity or inactive. The results were compared with those resulting from a group of other 130 healthy people. The conclusion drawn out is that the full high moment of the seasonal allergic rhinitis influences the cessation or the cancellation of the mucociliary function. The halt of the rhinohidrorrhea clearly improves the mucociliary clearance but without attaining its normalization during the pollinosis epoch.

RESUMO

In this paper we present a follow up of 24 patients that underwent total laryngectomy with Herrmann's technique of phonatory voice prosthesis. We discuss the complications and the facts that provoqued the removal of the prosthesis.

RESUMO

We present the results obtained in a group of 52 patients (55 ears), 15 years old or younger, diagnosed with middle ear cholesteatoma. After the evaluation of their clinical records, audiometry and X ray, surgery was performed by means of canal wall up procedures in 40 ears (72%) and canal wall down procedures in 15 (27%). The cholesteatoma was eradicated in 62% of the first group and in 86% of the second one. In 17 patients there was a recurrence. In those cases of canal wall up procedures they were transformed in canal wall down, or in the canal wall down the cavity was cleaned up. Only in 2 of these 17 recurrences, there was a second recurrence. In 7 cases a tympanoplasty was performed and the audiometric GAP was reduced in 57% and only in 19% when tympanoplasty wasn't performed.
