Eco-efficiency analysis at multi-levels can address the disconnection between its macro-level necessity and micro-level contribution. This cross-level analysis helps policymaking on systematically improving the sustainability of industry. Therefore, in this study, the dual-level eco-efficiency evaluation combing with interactive econometric analysis was applied for contributing a more holistic view of sustainable management in the heavy pollution industry. The empirical study was based on 12 international clothing brands and retailers' textile supply chains and their 202 major upstream manufacturers in China from 2015 to 2019. The dual-level evaluation uncovered a significant improvement in eco-efficiency both at the textile manufacturer and supply chain levels during the five years. The manufacturers' average eco-efficiency increased by 54%. The dyeing and finishing companies' efficiency of emissions to air, energy use, GHG emissions, and water use averagely increased by 165%, 39%, 28%, and 19%, respectively; discharges to water did not change significantly. Meanwhile, the interactive econometric analysis revealed the effects of green management certification, technological innovation, and the number of buyers/suppliers on dual-level eco-efficiency. The influencing mechanism of the same factor on eco-efficiency was demonstrated heterogeneous at manufacturer and supply chain levels. Adopting green management certification was an efficient facilitator to promote textile manufacturers' eco-efficiency, but not sufficient to advance supply chain's ecological performance until 2018. Conversely, inducing technological innovation can promote industry sustainability benefitting from knowledge search and absorption at the supply chain level. Depending on the multi-level lens, this study underlines that the same factor may have heterogeneous impacts at different levels and provides a drawable approach that can support decision-making on improving overall eco-efficiency for stakeholders such as companies, brands and retailers, and the government.

Asperphenamate is a natural product that has attracted considerable interest from researchers worldwide. In the last decade, aiming to increase the biological activity and improve druggability, modifications of the A-ring moiety in asperphenamate have been performed. Our laboratory has also recently reported functional derivatizations of the A ring and studied its effect on the inhibition of cysteine cathepsin L. However, the functional significance of the B-ring fragment toward cathepsin L has not been evaluated thus far. In this paper, forty-four derivatives of the B-ring substituted with different N-phenylsulfonyl groups were designed and synthesized. Among them, the paratrifluromethyl analog B-2a and the 2, 4-difluoro-5-chloro derivative B-11b showed more potent inhibitory activity against cathepsin L than the control compound, ABR, which displayed the strongest inhibitory effect on cathepsin L and S among all reported asperphenamate derivatives. In particular, compound B-2a showed more pronounced selectivity against cathepsin L than the other derivatives. Molecular docking revealed that the N-phenylsulfonylamide moiety was vital for the interactions between B-2a and cathepsin L. Moreover, B-2a displayed no toxicity against normal cells. Therefore, compound B-2a was selected for further studies. Wound-healing assays, Transwell chamber assays and breast cancer lung metastasis mouse models demonstrated that B-2a exhibited antimetastatic ability in vitro and in vivo.

Social exclusion can affect nearly every aspect of a person's mental health, both on an emotional and cognitive level. The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether cool or hot inhibitory control capacity varied under social exclusion. More precisely, participants who had experienced and not experienced social exclusion were compared to explore the influence of social exclusion on cool and hot inhibitory controls. Social exclusion was induced through the use of a Cyberball game, and participants were divided into an exclusion group and an inclusion group. The number Stroop task and emotional face Stroop task were used to measure the cool and hot inhibitory control, respectively. In the cool Stroop task, participants had to refrain from reading printed digits to identify the number of items presented in the array. In the hot Stroop task, participants had to inhibit the meaning of the word to identify the emotion displayed on the face. Reaction time, accuracy, and Stroop interference were analyzed to compare the inhibitory control between the exclusion group and the inclusion group. The results showed an extension of the response time in the exclusion group compared to the inclusion group. We found a higher interference effect in the number of Stroop tasks in the exclusion group than that in the inclusion group, but it was not significant in the emotional face Stroop task. The results suggest that the cognitive and emotional basis of inhibitory control may differ during social exclusion. The present findings expand our understanding of how social exclusion affects cool and hot inhibitory controls and their internal psychological mechanism.
