Solar-powered interfacial heating has emerged as a sustainable technology for hybrid applications with minimal carbon footprints. Aerogels, hydrogels, and sponges/foams are the main building blocks for state-of-the-art photothermal materials. However, these conventional three-dimensional (3D) structures and related fabrication technologies intrinsically fail to maximize important performance-enhancing strategies and this technology still faces several performance roadblocks. Herein, monolithic, self-standing, and durable aerogel matrices are developed based on composite photothermal inks and ink-extrusion 3D printing, delivering all-in-one interfacial steam generators (SGs). Rapid prototyping of multiscale hierarchical structures synergistically reduce the energy demand for evaporation, expand actual evaporation areas, generate massive environmental energy input, and improve mass flows. Under 1 sun, high water evaporation rates of 3.74 kg m-2 h-1 in calm air and 25.3 kg m-2 h-1 at a gentle breeze of 2 m s-1 are achieved, ranking among the best-performing solar-powered interfacial SGs. 3D-printed microchannels and hydrophobic modification deliver an icephobic surface of the aerogels, leading to self-propelled and rapid removal of ice droplets. This work shines light on rational fabrication of hierarchical photothermal materials, not merely breaking through the constraints of solar-powered interfacial evaporation and clean water production, but also discovering new functions for photothermal interfacial deicing.

Legacy per- and polyfluoroalkyl acids (PFASs) have received global concern over the scientific and public community since this century. However, the information on alternative PFASs pollution in the marine environment, especially in the subtropical marine environment is extremely limited. This study investigated the occurrence, partitioning, potential sources, and ecological risks of PFASs, including perfluoroalkane sulfonic acids (PFSAs), perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs), and alternative PFASs, in surface water and sediments from the subtropical Beibu Gulf, South China. Concentrations of total PFASs (∑PFASs) were in the range of 0.98-2.64 ng/L in water and 0.19-0.66 ng/g (dry weight, dw) in sediment, respectively. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was the most abundant PFAS in water, while PFASs in sediment were dominated by perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and PFOA. Among investigated environmental parameters (total organic carbon (TOC), grain size, water pH, sediment pH, and salinity), TOC and salinity were the dominant factors influencing the sediment-water distribution coefficient (Kd) of PFOA, perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA), and perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA). Log Kd and log soil organic carbon-water distribution coefficient (Koc) both increase with increasing carbon chain length of PFASs. Significantly positive correlations between PFOS and perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA) (p < 0.05), PFOA and perfluoro-1-butane-sulfonamide (FBSA) were observed, suggesting that these PFASs might have similar sources and transport routes. Preliminary environmental risk assessment showed that PFOA and PFOS would not pose risks to the marine aquatic environment. This is the first comprehensive survey of legacy and alternative PFASs in a subtropical area of the Beibu Gulf, which provides significant data and scientific basis to better understand the fate of PFASs and pollution control management.

Autophagy maintains cellular homeostasis by degrading organelles, proteins, and lipids in lysosomes. Autophagy is involved in the innate and adaptive immune responses to a variety of pathogens. Some viruses can hijack host autophagy to enhance their replication. However, the role of autophagy in porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infection is unclear. Here, we show that N-Myc downstream-regulated gene 1 (NDRG1) deficiency induced autophagy, which facilitated PRRSV replication by regulating lipid metabolism. NDRG1 mRNA is expressed ubiquitously in most porcine tissues and most strongly in white adipose tissue. PRRSV infection downregulated the expression of NDRG1 mRNA and protein, while NDRG1 deficiency contributed to PRRSV RNA replication and progeny virus assembly. NDRG1 deficiency reduced the number of intracellular lipid droplets (LDs), but the expression levels of key genes in lipogenesis and lipolysis were not altered. Our results also show that NDRG1 deficiency promoted autophagy and increased the subsequent yields of hydrolyzed free fatty acids (FFAs). The reduced LD numbers, increased FFA levels, and enhanced PRRSV replication were abrogated in the presence of an autophagy inhibitor. Overall, our findings suggest that NDRG1 plays a negative role in PRRSV replication by suppressing autophagy and LD degradation.IMPORTANCE Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), an enveloped single-positive-stranded RNA virus, causes acute respiratory distress in piglets and reproductive failure in sows. It has led to tremendous economic losses in the swine industry worldwide since it was first documented in the late 1980s. Vaccination is currently the major strategy used to control the disease. However, conventional vaccines and other strategies do not provide satisfactory or sustainable prevention. Therefore, safe and effective strategies to control PRRSV are urgently required. The significance of our research is that we demonstrate a previously unreported relationship between PRRSV, NDRG1, and lipophagy in the context of viral infection. Furthermore, our data point to a new role for NDRG1 in autophagy and lipid metabolism. Thus, NDRG1 and lipophagy will have significant implications for understanding PRRSV pathogenesis for developing new therapeutics.

Inspired by natural photosynthesis, artificial heterojunction photocatalysts have been extensively studied. Herein, a novel ternary graphitic carbon nitride/platinum/bismuth vanadate (g-C3N4/Pt/BiVO4) photocatalytic system was successfully synthesized, where Pt/BiVO4 nanosheet is anchored on the surface of layered g-C3N4, as evidenced by structural observations. Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy are carried out to identify the position of the conduction band and valence band. A Z-scheme is used to interpret the superior photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4/Pt/BiVO4 and further verified by the capture of free radicals and terephthalic acid photoluminescence experiments. Compared with the g-C3N4/BiVO4 binary system, the Z-scheme g-C3N4/Pt/BiVO4 photocatalyst not only possesses enhanced carrier separation efficiency but also maintains sufficient redox properties, thus inducing superior photocatalytic activity. More importantly, the novel Z-scheme photocatalyst exhibits excellent recycle stability, which could provide inspiration for the rational design of efficient and practical photocatalysts for environmental pollution treatment. The ternary photocatalyst also exhibits significantly enhanced visible-light photocatalytic hydrogen production performance.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the efficacy of GH in improving FAH in ISS children in a multicenter study. METHODS: A real-world observation was carried out. Children with ISS in seven hospitals in China were enrolled. The height gains standard deviation score and the height gain over the target height were evaluated. RESULTS: There were 344 ISS patients (217 boys and 127 girls). The baseline average age of boys and girls was 12.7 and 11.7 years, with bone age of 11.7 and 10.1 years, respectively. The baseline height SDS of boys and girls was - 3.07 and - 2.74, and the FAH SDS was - 1.91 and - 1.38, respectively. Compared with the baseline height SDS, the FAH SDS was significantly increased in both boys and girls (both P = 0.0000). The FAH SDS was the highest (gain by 1.54 SD) in the ≥2y treatment course group. Two hundred eighteen patients (218/344, 63.4%) had a FAH SDS > - 2 SD. Among these patients, girls in the 1-2y treatment course group and ≥ 2y group had a FAH SDS higher than TH SDS. Even in the control group, a spontaneous catch-up growth of 1.16 SD was observed. A multivariate linear regression model was used to analyze the results, with FAH SDS as the dependent variable. It was found that the treatment course and baseline height SDS in the boys' model were statistically significant (P < 0.05), whereas the baseline height SDS and baseline bone age significantly affected the girls' FAH SDS (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Both girls and boys of ISS improved FAH by GH therapy even if treatments begin over 10 years old and majority of them reached TH. Some peri-puberty ISS will have a spontaneous height gain. We recommend the course of GH treatment more than 2 years for girls, and longer courses for boys.

Ganoderma have been regarded as a traditional source of natural bioactive compounds for centuries and have recently been exploited for potential components in the cosmetics industry. Besides Ganoderma polysaccharides and triterpenes, multiple proteins have been found in Ganoderma. With the in-depth study of these proteins, various pharmacological functions of Ganoderma have become important in the discovery and development of new products. In the review, we summarized and discussed the kinds and characteristics of Ganoderma proteins, especially on fungal immunomodulatory proteins (FIPs) which can be potentially developed into cosmeceuticals or nutricosmetics and are a suitable target for production using established biotechnological methods. Furthermore, we discuss their pharmacological activities of the proteins with a focus on their pharmacological functions related to cosmetics, such as antioxidant activity, inhibition of melanin, antibacterial activity, and regulation of inflammatory mediators. Numerous other questions also are addressed before the proteins can be widely accepted and used as cosmetic additives.

Monitoring dynamic distribution is crucial to conservation management of anadromous sturgeons, but traditional survey methods are less efficient for low-density populations in a large river. Natural propagation of Chinese sturgeon has been monitored annually mainly at the spawning ground using netting for eggs and hydroacoustics for broodstock. However, absence of spawning was observed sporadically in recent years, indicating further crises for the declining population. We analyzed eDNA of water samples collected from 24 sites across 1360 km of the migratory route of anadromous Chinese sturgeon in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Chinese sturgeon was detected at 9 sites during the spawning season and 14 sites after the spawning season. We found that positive eDNA detection rates remained constant in the middle reaches but dramatically changed in the lower reaches, reflecting seasonal migration pattern of Chinese sturgeon. Invasive sturgeons were detected in the river, indicating their possible escape from aquaculture facilities. This study established a protocol for the use of eDNA to monitor distribution of Chinese sturgeon and could be valuable in making better policies for the conservation of this endangered species.

At present, lung cancer ranks second and first respectively in the incidence and the mortality among malignant tumors. It is urgent to find new effective anti-lung cancer drugs with less side effects and relatively defined mechanisms. Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-mediated apoptosis pathway is an effective way to promote tumor cell apoptosis; diterpenoid tanshinone (DT), an effective part separated from Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, was found to have an anti-lung cancer effect in previous studies via ERS-induced PERK-EIF2α pathway. In this paper, human lung adenocarcinoma PC9 cell line and nude mouse transplantation tumor model were applied to verify the anti-lung cancer effect of DT in vivo and in vitro, and illuminate the potential mechanism via ERS induced IRE1α/caspase 12 apoptosis pathway. The results showed that in vivo, DT could promote PC9 cell apoptosis in a concentration-dependent manner, up-regulate Bip, IRE1 and TRAF2 protein expressions in tumor tissue, reduce tumor weight and alleviate bodyweight loss. In vitro, DT inhibited the proliferation of PC9 cell line in a concentration-dependent manner, and destroyed the structure of mitochondria in PC9 cell, promoted Bax, IRE1α, Bip, TRAF2 and caspase 12 protein expressions, lower Bcl-2 protein expression in a time-dependent manner. DT shows a good effect on anti-lung cancer both in vivo and in vitro. The mechanism is related to the activation of ERS-induced IRE1α/caspase 12 apoptosis pathway and the promotion of cell apoptosis. ERS-mediated apoptosis pathway may be an important target of DT on anti-lung cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the expression of phospholipid scramblase 1 (PLSCR1) in matrine (MAT) induced differentiation of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) resistant acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) cells, and to explore its correlation to cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)/protein kinase A (PKA) signal pathway. METHODS: NB4 (an APL cell line sensitive to ATRA) and NB4-R1 (a resistant strain of ATRA) were observed as subjects in this study. Effects of combined treatment of 0.1 mmol/L MAT and 1 [mol/L ATRA on the differentiation of two cell lines were detected using nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction test and flow cytometry (CD11b). Expressions of PML/RARot and PLSCR1 protein/gene were detected using Western blot and Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR assay. Meanwhile, H89, PKA antagonist, was used to observe cell differentiation antigen and changes of aforesaid proteins and genes. RESULTS: MAT combined ATRA could significantly elevate positive rates of NBT and CD11 b in NB4-R1 cells, and significantly down-regulate the expression of PML/RARapha-fusion protein/gene (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). ATRA used alone could obviously enhance the expression of PLSCRI in NB4 cells at protein and mRNA levels (P < 0.01). But the expression of PLSCR1 was up-regulated in NB4-R1 cells, but with statistical.difference only at the protein level (P <0. 01). In combination of MAT, PLSCR1 protein expression was further elevated in the two cell lines (P < 0.01). Besides, there was statistical difference in mRNA expressions in NB4-R1 cells (P < 0.05). All these actions could be reversed by treatment of 10 micromol/L H89 (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: MAT combined ATRA could significantly induce the differentiation of NB4-R1 cells, and inhibit the expression of PML/RARalpha fusion gene/protein, which might be associated with up-regulating PLSCR1 expression.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of hypertension and the relationship between hypertension and obesity in children and adolescents aged 6-18 years in Nanning, Guangxi Province, China. METHODS: A stratified cluster random sampling method was adopted in Nanning to select 7 893 children and adolescents aged 6-18 years as research subjects. Questionnaire surveys were conducted, and blood pressure, height, weight, and other indicators of growth and development were measured. RESULTS: An increasing trend with age for both systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) was observed. Detection rates of hypertension, high SBP (HSBP) and high DBP (HDBP) were 6.58%, 4.02% and 3.81%, respectively. The detection rates of hypertension and HSBP in boys were significantly higher than in girls (P<0.05). The detection rates of hypertension in normal, overweight and obesity groups were 3.87%, 9.84% and 19.23%, respectively. The obesity group showed the highest detection rates for hypertension, HSBP and HDBP, followed by the overweight group and normal group. Compared with that in the normal group, the odds ratios (95% CI) for hypertension in the overweight and obesity groups were 2.71 (1.69-5.96) and 5.91 (3.46-7.63), respectively. Blood pressure showed a positive correlation with age, height, weight and BMI (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The present study provides with the current information and characteristics of blood pressure of children and adolescents aged 6-18 years in Nanning, Guangxi. Blood pressure is correlated with gender, age, height, weight and BMI. Obesity is positively correlated with the prevalence of hypertension and the risk of hypertension increases with body weight.

OBJECTIVE: To study the relationship between abnormal karyotypes and clinical phenotypes among children in genetic counseling in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. METHODS: We studied 601 children who visited Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Women and Children Care Hospital for genetic counseling between January 2009 and July 2012. Blood samples were cultured routinely for karyotype analysis with G banding as well as clinical analysis. RESULTS: Out of 601 patients, 329 (54.7%) had chromosomal abnormalities, and 8 new abnormal human karyotypes were found. Among 329 children with abnormal karyotypes, 317 (96.4%) had an abnormal number of chromosomes, and 12 (3.6%) had abnormal chromosomal structure. Abnormal karyotypes were clinically manifested by Down's syndrome (74.5%), growth retardation (10.9%), and mental retardation (3.0%). CONCLUSIONS: Eight rare abnormal karyotypes were found in the study, providing new resources for the genetic studies and etiological analysis of growth retardation, mental retardation, gonadal dysgenesis, and multiple congenital anomalies in children.

BACKGROUND: Extensive research revealed the absence of reports documenting hypertensive emergencies precipitated by changes in the cervical spine posture. CASE SUMMARY: We here present a 57-year-old woman diagnosed as having cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR) who was scheduled for anterior cervical decompression and fusion. During post-anesthetic positioning, a sudden hypertensive surge was observed when the patient was in a supine position with the neck being slightly extended. This surge was promptly reversed through cervical flexion and head elevation. This event however required an alternate surgical approach for recovery-posterior laminoplasty and endoscopy-assisted nucleus pulposus removal. Following the 6-month outpatient follow-up period, cervical flexion and extension activities substantially improved in the patient without any episodes of increase in acute blood pressure. CONCLUSION: Maintaining a safe hypotensive posture and performing rapid, thorough decompression surgery may serve as effective interventions for patients presenting symptoms similar to those of CSR accompanied by hypertensive emergencies (HE). This would mitigate the underlying causes of these HEs.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly heterogeneous and malignant cancer with poor overall survival. The application of sorafenib is a major breakthrough in the treatment of HCC. In our study, FOXQ1 was significantly overexpressed in sorafenib-resistant HCC cells and suppressed sorafenib-induced ferroptosis. We found that phosphorylation of FOXQ1 at serine 248 is critical for the suppression of sorafenib-induced ferroptosis. Furthermore, as the upstream phosphorylation kinase of FOXQ1, JNK1, which is activated by sorafenib, can directly phosphorylate the serine 248 site of FOXQ1. Then, the phosphorylated FOXQ1 got a high affinity for the promoter of ETHE1 and activates its transcription. Further flow cytometry results showed that ETHE1 reduced intracellular lipid peroxidation and iron levels. Collectively, our study implicated the JNK1-FOXQ1-ETHE1 axis in HCC ferroptosis induced by sorafenib, providing mechanistic insight into sensitivity to sorafenib therapy of HCC.

Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris) has emerged as one of the two primary crops, alongside sugarcane, for global sugar production. Comprehensively understanding sucrose synthesis, transport, and accumulation in sugar beet holds great significance for enhancing sugar production. In this study, we collected a diverse set of 269 sugar beet accessions worldwide and measured 12 phenotypes, comprising biomass, soluble sugar content, and 10 taproot-related traits. We re-sequenced 207 accessions to explore genetic diversity and population structure. Then we employed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) and RNA-seq to identify single-nucleotide polymorphisms and genes associated with natural phenotypic variations. Our findings revealed a panel of genes potentially regulating biomass and sugar accumulation, notably the dual-role gene UDP-glucose 4-epimerase, which genetically balances sugar accumulation and cell wall synthesis. In summary, this study provides a foundation for molecular breeding in sugar beet.

Root rot as a result of Salvia miltiorrhiza is a common root disease caused by Fusarium spp., which has become one of the main diseases affecting the production of S. miltiorrhiza. Currently, several hypovirulence-related mycoviruses have been identified in many phytopathogenic fungi, including Fusarium spp., which show potential as biological controls. In this study, we report a new mycovirus, Fusarium oxysporum partitivirus 1 (FoPV1), isolated from F. oxysporum strain FCR51, which is a causal agent of S. miltiorrhiza dry rot. The FoPV1 genome contains two double-stranded RNA segments (dsRNA1 and dsRNA2). The size of dsRNA1 is 1773 bp, and it encodes a putative RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp). The dsRNA2 is 1570 bp in length, encoding a putative capsid protein (CP). Multiple sequence alignments and phylogenetic analyses based on the amino acid sequences of the RdRp and the CP proteins indicated that FoPV1 appears to be a new member of the family Partitiviridae that is related to members of the genus Gammapartitivirus. Pathogenicity assay showed that FoPV1 confers hypervirulence to its host, F. oxysporum. This is the first report of a partitivirus infecting F. oxysporum and the first hypovirulence-related mycovirus from the causal agent of S. miltiorrhiza dry rot.

BACKGROUND: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), a primary hepatobiliary malignancy, is characterized by a poor prognosis and a lack of effective treatments. Therefore, the need to explore novel therapeutic approaches is urgent. While the role of Peptidylprolyl Cis/Trans Isomerase, NIMA-Interacting 1 (PIN1) has been extensively studied in various tumor types, its involvement in CCA remains poorly understood. METHODS: In this study, we employed tissue microarray (TMA), reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database to assess the expression of PIN1. Through in vitro and in vivo functional experiments, we investigated the impact of PIN1 on the adhesion and metastasis of CCA. Additionally, we explored downstream molecular pathways using RNA-seq, western blotting, co-immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, and mass spectrometry techniques. RESULTS: Our findings revealed a negative correlation between PIN1 overexpression and prognosis in CCA tissues. Furthermore, high PIN1 expression promoted CCA cell proliferation and migration. Mechanistically, PIN1 functioned as an oncogene by regulating ANXA2 phosphorylation, thereby promoting CCA adhesion. Notably, the interaction between PIN1 and ANXA2 was facilitated by RACK1. Importantly, pharmacological inhibition of PIN1 using the FDA-approved drug all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) effectively suppressed the metastatic potential of CCA cells in a nude mouse lung metastasis model. CONCLUSION: Overall, our study emphasizes the critical role of the PIN1/RACK1/ANXA2 complex in CCA growth and functionality, highlighting the potential of targeting PIN1 as a promising therapeutic strategy for CCA.

The full mechanism of action of propofol, a commonly administered intravenous anesthetic drug in clinical practice, remains elusive. The focus of this study was the role of GABAergic neurons which are the main neuron group in the ventral pallidum (VP) closely associated with anesthetic effects in propofol anesthesia. The activity of VP GABAergic neurons following propofol anesthesia in Vgat-Cre mice was observed via detecting c-Fos immunoreactivity by immunofluorescence and western blotting. Subsequently, chemogenetic techniques were employed in Vgat-Cre mice to regulate the activity of VP GABAergic neurons. The role of VP GABAergic neurons in generating the effects of general anesthesia induced by intravenous propofol was further explored through behavioral tests of the righting reflex. The results revealed that c-Fos expression in VP GABAergic neurons in Vgat-Cre mice dramatically decreased after propofol injection. Further studies demonstrated that chemogenetic activation of VP GABAergic neurons during propofol anesthesia shortened the duration of anesthesia and promoted wakefulness. Conversely, the inhibition of VP GABAergic neurons extended the duration of anesthesia and facilitated the effects of anesthesia. The results obtained in this study suggested that regulating the activity of GABAergic neurons in the ventral pallidum altered the effect of propofol on general anesthesia.

BACKGROUND: The optimal approach for managing hepatic hemangioma is controversial. AIM: To evaluate a clinical grading system for management of hepatic hemangioma based on our 17-year of single institution experience. METHODS: A clinical grading system was retrospectively applied to 1171 patients with hepatic hemangioma from January 2002 to December 2018. Patients were classified into four groups based on the clinical grading system and treatment: (1) Observation group with score < 4 (Obs score < 4); (2) Surgical group with score < 4 (Sur score < 4); (3) Observation group with score ≥ 4 (Obs score ≥ 4); and (4) Surgical group with score ≥ 4 (Sur score ≥ 4). The clinico-pathological index and outcomes were evaluated. RESULTS: There were significantly fewer symptomatic patients in surgical groups (Sur score ≥ 4 vs Obs score ≥ 4, P < 0.001; Sur score < 4 vs Obs score < 4, χ² = 8.60, P = 0.004; Sur score ≥ 4 vs Obs score < 4, P < 0.001). The patients in Sur score ≥ 4 had a lower rate of in need for intervention and total patients with adverse event than in Obs score ≥ 4 (P < 0.001; P < 0.001). Nevertheless, there was no significant difference in need for intervention and total patients with adverse event between the Sur score < 4 and Obs score < 4 (P > 0.05; χ² = 1.68, P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: This clinical grading system appeared as a practical tool for hepatic hemangioma. Surgery can be suggested for patients with a score ≥ 4. For those with < 4, follow-up should be proposed.

Background: The worldwide geographical and temporal variation in the prevalence of diabetes represents a challenge, but also an opportunity for gaining etiological insights. Encompassing the bulk of East Asians, a large and distinct proportion of the world population, China can be a source of valuable epidemiological insights for diabetes, especially in early life, when pathophysiology begins. We carried out a nationwide, epidemiological survey of Prevalence and Risk of Obesity and Diabetes in Youth (PRODY) in China, from 2017 to 2019, to estimate the population-based prevalence of diagnosed pediatric diabetes and screen for undiagnosed pediatric type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods: PRODY was a nation-wide, school population-based, cross-sectional, multicenter survey by questionnaire, fasting urine glucose test and simple oral glucose tolerance test (s-OGTT), among a total number of 193,801 general-population children and adolescents (covered a pediatric population of more than 96.8 million), aged 3-18, from twelve provinces across China. The prevalence of the self-reported pediatric diabetes, the proportion of subtypes, the crude prevalence of undiagnosed T2D and prediabetes in general juvenile population and the main risk factors of type 1 (T1D) and type 2 (T2D) diabetes had been analyzed in the study. Findings: The prevalence of all self-reported pediatric diabetes was estimated at 0.62/1000 (95% CI: 0.51-0.74), with T1D at 0.44/1000 (95% CI: 0.35-0.54) and T2D at 0.18/1000 (95% CI: 0.13-0.25). For undiagnosed T2D, the crude prevalence was almost ten-fold higher, at 1.59/1000, with an estimated extra 28.45/1000 of undiagnosed impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and 53.74/1000 of undiagnosed impaired fasting glucose (IFG) by s-OGTT screening. Maternal diabetes history is the major risk factors for all subtypes of pediatric diabetes in China. Interpretation: The PRODY study provides the first population-based estimate of the prevalence of pediatric diabetes China and reveals a magnitude of the problem of undiagnosed pediatric T2D. We propose a practical screening strategy by s-OGTT to address this serious gap. AIMS: To investigate the contribution of dysfunction of maternal hemodynamics to renal impairment in preeclampsia (PE). METHODS: Urinary protein excretion, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, and glomerular filtration rate were assessed in 571 pregnant women with PE in addition to and noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring. Patients were classified into two groups: PE with renal impairment (glomerular filtration rate <90 ml/min/1.73 m², n = 161) and PE with normal renal function (n = 410). Cut-off values for hemodynamic parameters were calculated using receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis. RESULTS: Maternal systolic function and cardiac output parameters were low and peripheral resistance was high in the PE renal impairment group. Cut-off values for the hemodynamic parameters, cardiac index, cardiac output, systemic vascular resistance index, and systemic vascular resistance were 2.85 l/min/m², 5.25 l/min, 3,014.5 dyn s cmâ»5 m² and 1,636.0 dyn s cmâ»5, respectively, according to receiver-operating characteristics curves. CONCLUSION: Renal impairment in PE is associated with reduced maternal cardiac output and increased peripheral resistance.
