BACKGROUND: Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is a serious gastrointestinal disease that is facilitated by pancreatic acinar cell death. The protective role of human placental mesenchymal stem cells (hP-MSCs) in SAP has been demonstrated in our previous studies. However, the underlying mechanisms of this therapy remain unclear. Herein, we investigated the regularity of acinar cell pyroptosis during SAP and investigated whether the protective effect of hP-MSCs was associated with the inhibition of acinar cell pyroptosis. METHODS: A mouse model of SAP was established by the retrograde injection of sodium taurocholate (NaTC) solution in the pancreatic duct. For the hP-MSCs group, hP-MSCs were injected via the tail vein and were monitored in vivo. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to observe the pyroptosis-associated ultramorphology of acinar cells. Immunofluorescence and Western blotting were subsequently used to assess the localization and expression of pyroptosis-associated proteins in acinar cells. Systemic inflammation and local injury-associated parameters were evaluated. RESULTS: Acinar cell pyroptosis was observed during SAP, and the expression of pyroptosis-associated proteins initially increased, peaked at 24 h, and subsequently showed a decreasing trend. hP-MSCs effectively attenuated systemic inflammation and local injury in the SAP model mice. Importantly, hP-MSCs decreased the expression of pyroptosis-associated proteins and the activity of the NOD-, LRR-, and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome in acinar cells. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates the regularity and important role of acinar cell pyroptosis during SAP. hP-MSCs attenuate inflammation and inhibit acinar cell pyroptosis via suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activation, thereby exerting a protective effect against SAP.

High-entropy materials have attracted much attention in the electrocatalysis field due to their unique structure, high chemical activity, and compositional tunability. However, the harsh and complex synthetic methods limit the application of such materials. Herein, a universal non-equilibrium liquid-phase synthesis strategy is reported to prepare high-entropy amorphous oxide nanoparticles (HEAO-NPs), and the composition of HEAO-NPs can be precisely controlled from tri- to ten-component. The non-equilibrium synthesis environment provided by an excessively strong reducing agent overcomes the difference in the reduction potentials of various metal ions, resulting in the formation of HEAO-NPs with a nearly equimolar ratio. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance of HEAO-NPs is further improved by adjusting the composition and optimizing the electronic structure. The Fe16Co32Ni32Mn10Cu10BOy exhibits a smaller overpotential (only 259 mV at 10 mA cm-2) and higher stability in OER compared with commercial RuO2. The amorphous high-entropy structure with an optimized concentration of iron makes the binding energy of CoNi shift to a higher direction, promotes the generation of high-valence active intermediates, and accelerates the OER kinetic process. The HEAO-NPs have promising application potential in the field of catalysis, biology, and energy storage, and this work provides a general synthesis method for composition-controllable high-entropy materials.

RNAs have attracted much attention in forensic body fluid/tissue identification (BFID) due to their tissue-specific expression characteristics. Among RNAs, long RNAs (e.g., mRNA) have a higher probability of containing more polymorphic sites that can be used to assign the specific donor of the body fluid/tissue. However, few studies have characterized their overall profiles in forensic science. In this study, we sequenced the transcriptomes of 30 samples from venous blood, menstrual blood, semen, saliva, vaginal secretion, and skin tissue, obtaining a comprehensive picture of mRNA, lncRNA, and circRNA profiles. A total of 90,305 mRNAs, 102,906 lncRNAs (including 19,549 novel lncRNAs), and 40,204 circRNAs were detected. RNA type distribution, length distribution, and expression distribution were presented according to their annotation and expression level, and many novel body fluid/tissue-specific RNA markers were identified. Furthermore, the cognate relations among the three RNAs were analyzed according to gene annotations. Finally, SNPs and InDels from RNA transcripts were genotyped, and 21,611 multi-SNP and 4,471 multi-InDel transcriptomic microhaplotypes (tMHs) were identified. These results provide a comprehensive understanding of transcriptome profiles, which could provide new avenues for tracing the origin of the body fluid/tissue and identifying an individual.

The inference of body fluids and tissues is critical in reconstructing crime scenes and inferring criminal behaviors. Nevertheless, present methods are incompatible with conventional DNA genotyping, and additional testing might result in excessive consumption of forensic scene materials. This study aims to investigate the feasibility of distinguishing common body fluids/tissues through the difference in mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn). Four types of body fluids/tissues were analyzed in this study - hair, saliva, semen, and skeletal muscle. MtDNAcn was estimated by dividing the read counts of mitochondrial DNA to that of nuclear DNA (RRmt/nu). Results indicated that there were significant differences in RRmt/nu between different body fluids/tissues. Specifically, hair samples exhibited the highest RRmt/nu (log10RRmt/nu: 4.3 ± 0.28), while semen samples showed the lowest RRmt/nu (log10RRmt/nu: -0.1 ± 0.28). RRmt/nu values for DNA samples without extraction were notably higher (approximately 2.9 times) than those obtained after extraction. However, no significant difference in RRmt/nu was observed between various age and gender groups. Hierarchical clustering and Kmeans clustering analyses showed that body fluids/tissues of the same type clustered closely to each other and could be inferred with high accuracy. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that the simultaneous detection of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA made it possible to perform conventional DNA analyses and body fluid/tissue inference at the same time, thus killing two birds with one stone. Furthermore, mtDNAcn has the potential to serve as a novel and promising biomarker for the identification of body fluids/tissues.

Bi-functional materials provide an opportunity for the development of high-performance devices. Up till now, bi-functional performance of NiCo2O4@SnS2nanosheets is rarely investigated. In this work, NiCo2O4@SnS2nanosheets were synthesized on carbon cloth by utilizing a simple hydrothermal technique. The developed electrode (NiCo2O4@SnS2/CC) was investigated for the detection of L-Cysteine and supercapacitors applications. As a non-enzymatic sensor, the electrode proved to be highly sensitive for the detection of L-cysteine. The electrode exhibits a reproducible sensitivity of 4645.82µA mM-1cm-2in a wide linear range from 0.5 to 5 mM with a low limit of detection (0.005µM). Moreover, the electrode shows an excellent selectivity and long-time stability. The high specific surface area, enhanced kinetics, good synergy and distinct architecture of NiCo2O4@SnS2nanosheets produce a large number of active sites with substantial energy storage potential. As a supercapacitor, the electrode exhibits improve capacitance of 655.7 F g-1at a current density of 2 A g-1as compare to NiCo2O4/CC (560 F g-1). Moreover, the electrode achieves 95.3% of its preliminary capacitance after 10 000 cycles at 2 A g-1. Our results show that NiCo2O4@SnS2/CC nanosheets possess binary features could be attractive electrode material for the development of non-enzymatic biosensors as well as supercapacitors.

PURPOSE: Vitamins and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been studied extensively as safe and manageable nutrient interventions for mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The purpose of the current meta-analysis was to examine the effects of vitamins and PUFAs on cognition and to compare the effects of single and multiple nutrient subgroups in patients with MCI. METHODS: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) written in English and Chinese were retrieved from eight databases, namely, PubMed, CENTRAL, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, SinoMed, CNKI, and Wanfang Data, from their respective dates of inception until 16 July 2023. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2.0. Meta-analyses were performed to determine the standardized mean differences (SMDs) in global cognitive function, memory function, attention, visuospatial skills, executive function, and processing speed between the supplement and control groups using 95% confidence intervals (CI) and I2. Prospero registration number: CRD42021292360. RESULTS: Sixteen RCTs that studied different types of vitamins and PUFAs were included. The meta-analysis revealed that vitamins affected global cognitive function (SMD = 0.58, 95% CI = [0.20, 0.96], P = 0.003), memory function (SMD = 2.55, 95% CI = [1.01, 4.09], P = 0.001), and attention (SMD = 3.14, 95% CI = [1.00, 5.28], P = 0.004) in patients with MCI, and PUFAs showed effects on memory function (SMD = 0.65, 95% CI = [0.32, 0.99], P < 0.001) and attention (SMD = 2.98, 95% CI = [2.11, 3.84], P < 0.001). Single vitamin B (folic acid [FA]: SMD = 1.21, 95% CI = [0.87, 1.55]) supplementation may be more effective than multiple nutrients (FA and vitamin B12: SMD = 0.71, 95% CI = [0.41, 1.01]; and FA combined with docosahexaenoic acid [DHA]: SMD = 0.58, 95% CI = [0.34, 0.83]) in global cognitive function. CONCLUSIONS: FA, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and vitamin D may improve global cognitive function, memory function, and attention in patients with MCI. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and DHA may improve memory function and attention. We also noted that FA may exert a greater effect than a vitamin B combination (FA and vitamin B12) or the combination of FA and DHA. However, because of the low evidence-based intensity, further trials are necessary to confirm these findings.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) on health-related quality of life (HRQOL), the relationship between disease activity and HRQOL, and potential factors affecting HRQOL in Chinese SLE patients. METHODS: This study recruited 1568 patients and 2610 controls to explore the effects of SLE on HRQOL. The association between disease activity and HRQOL, and the influencing factors of HRQOL were determined in 1568 patients. Then, we prospectively followed 1096 patients to explore the association between reduced disease activity and improved HRQOL, and the influencing factors of improved HRQOL. The Short-Form 36 (SF-36) and SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) were used to evaluate HRQOL and disease activity. RESULTS: Chinese SLE patients had lower HRQOL than controls in all domains (P < 0.001), especially in role-physical (RP) and role-emotional (RE). Compared with SLE patients from outside China, the HRQOL of Chinese patients appeared to be higher in mental component summary (MCS) but lower in RP and RE. SLEDAI was negatively correlated with HRQOL, which was validated using the results of a follow-up study, where SLEDAI reduction was positively associated with HRQOL improvements (P < 0.05). Furthermore, personality, life nervous and experiences of adverse life events may influence HRQOL and HRQOL improvements. CONCLUSION: SLE significantly affected the HRQOL of Chinese patients, especially in RP and RE. Disease activity was negatively correlated with HRQOL. We also found for the first time some factors affecting HRQOL, which can be regarded as the basis for improving the HRQOL of SLE patients.

There has been a persistent effort to understand and control the incorporation of metal impurities in semiconductors at nanoscale, as it is important for semiconductor processing from growth, doping to making contact. Previously, the injection of metal atoms into nanoscaled semiconductor, with concentrations orders of magnitude higher than the equilibrium solid solubility, has been reported, which is often deemed to be detrimental. Here our theoretical exploration reveals that this colossal injection is because gold or aluminum atoms tend to substitute Si atoms and thus are not mobile in the lattice of Si. In contrast, the interstitial atoms in the Si lattice such as manganese (Mn) are expected to quickly diffuse out conveniently. Experimentally, we confirm the self-inhibition effect of Mn incorporation in nanoscaled silicon, as no metal atoms can be found in the body of silicon (below 1017 atoms per cm-3) by careful three-dimensional atomic mappings using highly focused ultraviolet-laser-assisted atom-probe tomography. As a result of self-inhibition effect of metal incorporation, the corresponding field-effect devices demonstrate superior transport properties. This finding of self-inhibition effect provides a missing piece for understanding the metal incorporation in semiconductor at nanoscale, which is critical not only for growing nanoscale building blocks, but also for designing and processing metal-semiconductor structures and fine-tuning their properties at nanoscale.

INTRODUCTION: Impaired brain protein synthesis, synaptic plasticity, and memory are major hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The ketamine metabolite (2R,6R)-hydroxynorketamine (HNK) has been shown to modulate protein synthesis, but its effects on memory in AD models remain elusive. METHODS: We investigated the effects of HNK on hippocampal protein synthesis, long-term potentiation (LTP), and memory in AD mouse models. RESULTS: HNK activated extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), and p70S6 kinase 1 (S6K1)/ribosomal protein S6 signaling pathways. Treatment with HNK rescued hippocampal LTP and memory deficits in amyloid-ß oligomers (AßO)-infused mice in an ERK1/2-dependent manner. Treatment with HNK further corrected aberrant transcription, LTP and memory in aged APP/PS1 mice. DISCUSSION: Our findings demonstrate that HNK induces signaling and transcriptional responses that correct synaptic and memory deficits in AD mice. These results raise the prospect that HNK could serve as a therapeutic approach in AD. HIGHLIGHTS: The ketamine metabolite HNK activates hippocampal ERK/mTOR/S6 signaling pathways. HNK corrects hippocampal synaptic and memory defects in two mouse models of AD. Rescue of synaptic and memory impairments by HNK depends on ERK signaling. HNK corrects aberrant transcriptional signatures in APP/PS1 mice.

The purpose of this study was to identify latent classes of chronic pain in older adults based on perceptual, cognitive, behavioral, emotional and social factors, and to explore the associations between each class of chronic pain and different cognitive domains. A total of 629 participants were included. Three classes of chronic pain were identified: "episodic recurrent mild pain with good psychosocial state" (class 1), "episodic recurrent moderate pain with general psychosocial state" (class 2) and "continuous multilocational severe pain with attacks accompanied by poor psychosocial state and avoidance of activity" (class 3). After adjusting for relevant confounders, chronic pain presenting as class 1 was associated with worse memory; class 2 was associated with worse global cognitive function, memory, information processing speed, and executive function; and class 3 was additionally associated with worse attention compared to class 2. The findings contribute to the development of targeted programs for treating pain and improving cognitive functioning.

OBJECTIVES: Cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) have been individually associated with fall-related outcomes, but their combined effect on fear of falling (FOF) has not been investigated. This study aims to examine the association between cardiometabolic multimorbidity and FOF in older adults. METHODS: Data from the National Health and Aging Trends Study, 4,295 community-dwelling older adults ≥ 65 years were analyzed in this longitudinal study. CMDs were assessed at baseline, including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and hypertension. FOF was evaluated by asking participants if they worried about falling in the past month. Data were analyzed using multi-adjusted logistic regression. RESULTS: Cardiometabolic multimorbidity was associated with a higher risk of FOF. The combination of heart disease and diabetes showed the highest risk of FOF (OR = 3.47, 95 % CI: 1.63-7.40). CONCLUSIONS: These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to mitigate the combined impact of cardiometabolic multimorbidity on FOF in older adults.

Cadmium (Cd)-enriched adsorbents wastes possess great environmental risk due to their large-scale accumulation and toxicity in the natural environment. Recycling spent Cd-enriched adsorbents into efficient catalysts for advanced applications could address the environmental issues and attain the carbon neutral goal. Herein, a facile strategy is developed for the first time to reutilize the alkali lignin (AL)-derived biochar (ALB) absorbed with Cd into cadmium sulphide (CdS)/C composite for the efficient methylene blue (MB) removal. The ALB is initially treated with Cd-containing solution, then the recycling ALB samples with adsorbed Cd are converted to the final CdS/C composite using NaS2 as the sulphurizing reagent for vulcanization reaction. The optimal ALB400 demonstrates a high adsorption capacity of 576.0 mg g-1 for Cd removal. Then the converted CdS/C composite shows an efficient MB removal efficiency of 94%. The photodegradation mechanism is mainly attributed to carbon components in the CdS/C composite as electron acceptor promoting the separation of photoelectrons/holes and slowing down the abrasion of CdS particles. The enhanced charge transfer and contact between the carrier and the active site thus improves the removal performance and reusability. This work not only develops a method for removing Cd from wastewater effectively and achieving the waste resource utilization but also further offers a significant guidance to use other kinds of spent heavy metal removal adsorbents for the construction of low-cost and high value-added functional materials.

In lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), the stabilized capacities of transition metal compound anodes usually exhibit higher values than their theoretical values due to the interfacial charge storage, the formation of reversible electrolyte-derived surface layer, or interfacial magnetization. But the effectively utilizing the mechanisms to achieve novel anodes is rarely explored. Herein, a novel nanosized cobalt ditelluride (CoTe2 ) anodes with ultra-high capacity and long term stability is reported. Electrochemical tests show that the lithium storage capacity of the best sample reaches 1194.7 mA h g-1 after 150 cycles at 0.12 A g-1 , which increases by 57.8% compared to that after 20 cycles. In addition, the sample offers capacities of 546.6 and 492.1 mA h g-1 at 0.6 and 1.8 A g-1 , respectively. During cycles, CoTe2 particles (average size 20 nm) are gradually pulverized into the smaller nanoparticles (<3 nm), making the magnetization more fully due to the larger contact area of Co/Li2 Te interface, yielding an increased capacity. The negative capacity fading is observed, and verified by ex situ structural characterizations and in situ electrochemical measurements. The proposed strategy can be further extended to obtain other high-performance ferromagnetic metal based electrodes for energy storage applications.

Drug delivery systems (DDSs) play an important role in delivering active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to targeted sites with a predesigned release pattern. The chemical and biological properties of APIs and excipients have been extensively studied for their contribution to DDS quality and effectiveness; however, the structural characteristics of DDSs have not been adequately explored. Structure pharmaceutics involves the study of the structure of DDSs, especially the three-dimensional (3D) structures, and its interaction with the physiological and pathological structure of organisms, possibly influencing their release kinetics and targeting abilities. A systematic overview of the structures of a variety of dosage forms, such as tablets, granules, pellets, microspheres, powders, and nanoparticles, is presented. Moreover, the influence of structures on the release and targeting capability of DDSs has also been discussed, especially the in vitro and in vivo release correlation and the structure-based organ- and tumor-targeting capabilities of particles with different structures. Additionally, an in-depth discussion is provided regarding the application of structural strategies in the DDSs design and evaluation. Furthermore, some of the most frequently used characterization techniques in structure pharmaceutics are briefly described along with their potential future applications.

High sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are a controllable risk factor for chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), but their effect on the global disease burden is uncertain. The study aims to assess the global burden of high SSBs from 1990 to 2019. Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 provides data on deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), years of life with disabilities (YLDs) and years of life lost (YLLs) ascribe to high SSBs by ages, genders, regions and countries. For the past 30 years, overall exposure to high SSBs decreased for males and increased for females. The number of deaths from chronic NCDs ascribed to high SSBs increased from 149,988 (110,278-182,947) to 242,218 (172,045-302,250), DALYs increased from 3,698,578 (2,693,476-4,559,740) to 6,307,562 (4,300,765-8,079,556), especially the males. Age-standardized YLDs rate (ASYLDs) increased from 11.58 to 17.03. The number of ischemic heart disease (IHD) and diabetes mellitus (DM) deaths and DALYs ascribed to high SSBs has been increasing. Age-standardized death rate (ASDR) for DM risen from 0.56 to 0.62, age-standardized DALYs rate (ASDALYs) risen from 21.41 to 28.21. The burden of disease ascribed to high SSBs was in the elderly significantly higher than in the young and middle-aged, mainly concentrated in Central Asia and Oceania. The disease burden was highest in regions with moderate sociodemographic index (SDI). More extraordinary efforts should be made to raise awareness among the general public about interventions aimed at limiting the use of high SSBs, to reduce disease burden ascribed to high SSBs.

RESUMO

Hair is one of the most common pieces of biological evidence found at a crime scene and plays an essential role in forensic investigation. Hairs, especially non-follicular hairs, are usually found at various crime scenes, either by natural shedding or by forcible shedding. However, the genetic material in hairs is usually highly degraded, which makes forensic analysis difficult. As a result, the value of hair has not been fully exploited in forensic investigations and trials. In recent years, with advances in molecular biology, forensic analysis of hair has achieved remarkable strides and provided crucial clues in numerous cases. This article reviews recent developments in DNA and protein analysis of hair and attempts to provide a comprehensive solution to improve forensic hair analysis.

In forensic kinship testing and missing person identification, it is a fundamental question to choose the most informative reference relatives, select appropriate genotyping systems, and evaluate the weight of evidence comprehensively. Despite that several useful tools have been developed, they have not addressed these questions satisfactorily. In this paper, we develop a flexible and user-friendly online tool, Easykin, to address the aforementioned issues. It has some promising features: (i) Pedigrees can be constructed easily and presented intuitively with just a few mouse clicks. (ii) System power can be estimated before testing based on certain set of markers and reference relatives. (iii) The pruning function of EasyKin enables users to choose appropriate subsets of available references. (iv) Parameters at a specific LR for a single case may ease evidence interpretation. (v) The user interface (UI) is an HTML-based dashboard, which is friendly to both professional and non-professional users and can be used anytime and anywhere. Here, we presented three common cases as examples to demonstrate how kinship testing and missing person identification can be improved with EasyKin. In conclusion, this tool provides a one-stop solution for forensic use, that is, instructing users to choose appropriate kits and reference relatives before testing, calculating LR in the testing, and providing parameters for data interpretation after testing. Three MPS platforms are being used in forensic genetic analysis, i.e., MiSeq FGx, Ion S5 XL, and MGISEQ-2000. However, few studies compared their performance. In this study, we sequenced 83 common SNPs of 71 samples using the ForenSeq™ DNA Signature Prep Kit on MiSeq FGx, the Precision ID Identity Panel on Ion S5 XL, and the MGIEasy Signature Identification Library Prep Kit on MGISEQ-2000 and then the performance was compared. Results showed that the MiSeq FGx had the highest sequence quality but the lowest sequencing depth and allele balance. Discordant genotypes were observed at six SNPs, which may be caused by variants at primer binding regions, indel errors, or misalignments. Besides, two kinds of background noises, allele-specific miscalled reads (ASMR) and allele-nonspecific miscalled reads (ANMR), were characterized. MGISEQ-2000 showed the highest level of ASMR while Ion S5 XL had the highest level of ANMR. Site- and genotype-dependent miscalled patterns were observed at several SNPs on Ion S5 XL and MGISEQ-2000, but few on MiSeq FGx. In conclusion, the three MPS platforms perform differently with respect to sequencing quality, sequencing depth, allele balance, concordance, and background noise. These findings may be useful for data comparison, mixture deconvolution, and heteroplasmy analysis in forensic genetics.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to identify symptom clusters in breast cancer patients undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted. And a sample of 620 breast cancer patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy was recruited using convenience sampling from May 20, 2020, to March 31, 2021. Data were collected eight times: the first chemotherapy cycle (T1) to the eighth cycle of chemotherapy (T8). Exploratory factor analysis was used to explore the composition of symptom clusters. RESULTS: Symptoms with an incidence of less than 20% were deleted and the remaining symptoms were included in the factor analysis. Three common factors were extracted in T1, including gastrointestinal symptom cluster, emotional and psychological symptom cluster, and menopausal symptom cluster. Five common factors were extracted from T2 to T7, including gastrointestinal symptom cluster, emotional and psychological symptom cluster, neurological symptom cluster, menopausal symptom cluster, and self-image disorder symptom cluster. Four common factors were extracted at T8, including gastrointestinal symptom cluster, emotional and psychological symptom cluster, neurological symptom cluster, and menopausal symptom cluster. CONCLUSION: Breast cancer patients undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy experience multiple symptoms and different symptom clusters in different chemotherapy cycles. It is a benefit for health care providers to better understand and care for breast cancer patients. It will also help such women to manage concurrent symptoms ahead to promote their quality of life.

Giardia lamblia (G. lamblia) is the cause of giardiasis, a common infection that affects the general population of the world. Despite the constant possibility of damage because of their own metabolism, G. lamblia has survived and evolved to adapt to various environments. However, research on energy-metabolism conversion in G. lamblia is limited. This study aimed to reveal the dynamic metabolism conversion mechanism in G. lamblia under sugar starvation by detecting global lysine acetylation (Kac) and 2-hydroxyisobutyrylation (Khib) sites combined with quantitative proteome analyses. A total of 2999 acetylation sites on 956 proteins and 8877 2-hydroxyisobutyryl sites on 1546 proteins were quantified under sugar starvation. Integrated Kac and Khib data revealed that modified proteins were associated with arginine biosynthesis, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, and alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolisms. These findings suggest that Kac and Khib were ubiquitous and provide deep insight into the metabolism conversion mechanism in G. lamblia under sugar starvation. Overall, these results can help delineate the biology of G. lamblia infections and reveal the evolutionary rule from prokaryote to eukaryote.
