RESUMO

Carbon-semiconductor hybrid quantum dots are classical carbon dots with core carbon nanoparticles doped with a selected nanoscale semiconductor. Specifically, on those with the nanoscale TiO2 doping, denoted as CTiO2-Dots, their synthesis and thorough characterization were reported previously. In this work, the CTiO2-Dots were evaluated for their visible light-activated antibacterial function, with the results showing the effective killing of not only Gram-positive but also the generally more resistant Gram-negative bacteria. The hybrid dots are clearly more potent antibacterial agents than their neat carbon dot counterparts. Mechanistically, the higher antibacterial performance of the CTiO2-Dots is attributed to their superior photoexcited state properties, which are reflected by the observed much brighter fluorescence emissions. Also considered and discussed is the possibility of additional contributions to the antibacterial activities due to the photosensitization of the nanoscale TiO2 by its doped core carbon nanoparticles.

RESUMO

Carbon dots are defined as small carbon nanoparticles with effective surface passivation via organic functionalization. The definition is literally a description of what carbon dots are originally found for the functionalized carbon nanoparticles displaying bright and colorful fluorescence emissions, mirroring those from similarly functionalized defects in carbon nanotubes. In literature more popular than classical carbon dots are the diverse variety of dot samples from "one-pot" carbonization of organic precursors. On the two different kinds of samples from the different synthetic approaches, namely, the classical carbon dots versus those from the carbonization method, highlighted in this article are their shared properties and apparent divergences, including also explorations of the relevant sample structural and mechanistic origins for the shared properties and divergences. Echoing the growing evidence and concerns in the carbon dots research community on the major presence of organic molecular dyes/chromophores in carbonization produced dot samples, demonstrated and discussed in this article are some representative cases of dominating spectroscopic interferences due to the organic dye contamination that have led to unfound claims and erroneous conclusions. Mitigation strategies to address the contamination issues, including especially the use of more vigorous processing conditions in the carbonization synthesis, are proposed and justified.

RESUMO

Two novel halophilic archaeal strains, Gai3-17T and XZYJT26T, were isolated from the sediment of Gaize salt lake and the saline soil of Mangkang ancient solar saltern in Tibet, PR China, respectively. Strains Gai3-17T and XZYJT26T were related to each other (96.5 and 89.7% similarity, respectively) and showed 97.5-95.4 and 91.5-87.7% similarities to the current members of Halobacterium based on 16S rRNA and rpoB' genes. The phylogenomic analysis indicated that strains Gai3-17T and XZYJT26T formed two distinct clades and clustered with the Halobacterium species. The two strains can be differentiated from the type strains of the six species with validly published names based on several phenotypic characteristics. The phospholipids of the two strains were phosphatidic acid, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester. One major glycolipid, sulphated galactosyl mannosyl glucosyl diether, was detected in strain Gai3-17T, while four glycolipids, mannosyl glucosyl diether, sulphated mannosyl glucosyl diether, disulphated mannosyl glucosyl diether and sulphated galactosyl mannosyl glucosyl diether were observed in strain XZYJT26T. The average nucleotide identity, digital DNA-DNA hybridization and amino acid identity values among the two strains and the members of Halobacterium were no more than 81, 25 and 77 %, respectively. These overall genome-related indices were below the threshold values for species boundary, indicating that strains Gai3-17T and XZYJT26T represent two novel species of Halobacterium. Thus, two novel species, Halobacterium wangiae sp. nov. and Halobacterium zhouii sp. nov., are proposed to accommodate strains Gai3-17T (=CGMCC 1.16101T=JCM 33551T) and XZYJT26T (=CGMCC 1.16682T=JCM 33556T), respectively.

RESUMO

Three novel filamentous halophilic archaea, strains DFN5T, RDMS1, and QDMS1, were isolated from the coastal saline soil samples of the intertidal zones located in different regions of Jiangsu Province, China. The colonies of these strains were pinkish-white due to the presence of white spores. These three strains are extremely halophilic and grew optimally at 35-37 °C and pH 7.0-7.5. Based on 16S rRNA and rpoB' gene analysis, strains DFN5T, RDMS1, and QDMS1 gathered together in phylogenetic trees and then clustered with the current species of the genus Halocatena showing 96.9-97.4% and 82.2-82.5% similarities, respectively. Both the 16S rRNA gene-based and rpoB' gene-based phylogenies were fully supported by the phylogenomic analysis, and the overall genome-related indexes indicated that strains DFN5T, RDMS1, and QDMS1 should be a novel species of the genus Halocatena. Genome mining revealed that there are considerable differences in the genes related to ß-carotene synthesis among these three strains and the current species of Halocatena. The major polar lipids of strains DFN5T, RDMS1, and QDMS1 are PA, PG, PGP-Me, S-TGD-1, TGD-1, and TGD-2. The minor polar lipids, S-DGD-1, DGD-1, S2-DGD, and S-TeGD may be detected. According to the phenotypic characteristics, phylogenetic analysis, genomic and chemotaxonomic features, strains DFN5T (= CGMCC 1.19401 T = JCM 35422 T), RDMS1 (= CGMCC 1.19411) and QDMS1 (= CGMCC 1.19410) were classified as a novel species of the genus Halocatena with the proposed name, Halocatena marina sp. nov. This is the first report of the description of a novel filamentous haloarchaeon isolated from marine intertidal zones.

RESUMO

A single extremely halophilic strain was isolated from salt brine produced when a fresh water lake flooded a large salt mine located beneath the lake. The water that entered this mine contained less than 0.34 M NaCl, but over time, this sealed brine became saturated by Cenozoic age salt (121-125 million-year BCE). The isolated strain requires at least 1.7 M NaCl for survival and grows optimally in 3.1 M NaCl. Therefore, it could not have survived or been present in the waters that flooded this salt mine. The strain grows at a pH range from 6.5 to 9.0 and has a wide tolerance to temperatures from 25 ℃ to at least 60 ℃. The comparison of 16S rRNA and rpoB' genes revealed that strain 1-13-28T is related to Halorubrum tebenquichense DSM 14210T showing 98.6% and 98.1% similarities, respectively. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA, rpoB' genes and 122 concatenated archaeal genes show that the strain 1-13-28T consistently forms a cluster with Halorubrum tebenquichense of the genus Halorubrum. Strain 1-13-28T contained sulfated mannosyl glucosyl diether, and the polar lipid profile was identical to those of most Halorubrum species. Based on the overall combination of physiological, phylogenetic, polar lipids and phylogenomic characteristics, strain 1-13-28T (= ATCC 700083T = CGMCC 1.62627T) represents a newly identified species within the genus Halorubrum for which the name Halorubrum hochsteinianum is proposed.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common in clinic. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play significant roles in ameliorating AKI. The purpose of this study was aimed to identify the role of circ_0074371 and the potential action mechanism in sepsis-induced AKI. METHODS: AKI patients and healthy individual serum samples were collected and the relative expression of circ_0074371 was measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). HK2 cells were treated with different dose (0, 2.5, 5 and 10 µg/ml) lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to establish the AKI cell model. The cell viability and apoptosis of HK2 cells were detected using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and flow cytometry, respectively. The contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were evaluated using the relative commercial kits. The IL-1ß and TNF-α levels in cell culture supernatants were measured by ELISA. The interaction relationship between miR-330-5p and circ_0074371 or ELK1 was predicted by Targetscan database and further confirmed by the dual-luciferase reporter assay system. RESULTS: The circ_0074371 expression was up-regulated in sepsis patients and LPS-induced HK2 cells. Silencing circ_0074371 promoted HK2 cells viability and inhibited the HK2 cells apoptosis. miR-330-5p inhibitor weakened circ_0074371 inhibitor-induced cell viability, apoptosis and oxidative stress. Further mechanism analysis showed that circ_0074371 acted as a sponge for miR-330-5p to increase ELK1 expression level. Importantly, miR-330-5p downregulation or ELK1 upregulation reversed the action of circ_0074371 knockdown on LPS-induced HK2 cells. CONCLUSION: Knockdown of circ_0074371 ameliorated LPS-induced HK2 cells apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress via regulating miR-330-5p/ELK1, opening a new window into the pathogenesis AKI.

RESUMO

Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and exfoliated nanosheets (BNNs) not only resemble their carbon counterparts graphite and graphene nanosheets in structural configurations and many excellent materials characteristics, especially the ultra-high thermal conductivity, but also offer other unique properties such as being electrically insulating and extreme chemical stability and oxidation resistance even at elevated temperatures. In fact, BNNs as a special class of 2-D nanomaterials have been widely pursued for technological applications that are beyond the reach of their carbon counterparts. Highlighted in this article are significant recent advances in the development of more effective and efficient exfoliation techniques for high-quality BNNs, the understanding of their characteristic properties, and the use of BNNs in polymeric nanocomposites for thermally conductive yet electrically insulating materials and systems. Major challenges and opportunities for further advances in the relevant research field are also discussed.

RESUMO

A filamentous cell-shaped halophilic archaeon (strain AD-1T) was isolated from Aiding Salt Lake, PR China. Its colonies on HCM7 agar plates were pinkish white, 1-4 mm (diameter), elevated and round. The optimum conditions for growth were observed at 42 °C, 4.3 M NaCl, 0.01 M MgCl2 and pH 7. Strain AD-1T could hydrolyse Tween 60, Tween 80, starch and gelatin. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene, rpoB' and the concatenated 484 single-copy orthologous proteins revealed that strain AD-1T formed a clade with Halocatena pleomorpha SPP-AMP-1T. The average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain AD-1T and Halocatena pleomorpha SPP-AMP-1T were both below the species delineation thresholds (95~96 and 70 %, respectively). The major phospholipids of strain AD-1T were phosphatidic acid, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester, while the major glycolipids were sulphated galactosyl mannosyl glucosyl diether, galactosyl mannosyl glucosyl diether and glucosyl mannosyl glucosyl diether. The phenotypic, phylogenetic and genome-based analyses suggested that strain AD-1T (=CGMCC 1.13724T=JCM 32960T) represents a novel species, for which the name Halocatena salina sp. nov. is proposed.

RESUMO

Three extremely halophilic archaeal strains (LT55T, SQT-29-1T and WLHS5T) were isolated from Gobi saline soil and a salt lake, China. These strains were most related to the genera Natribaculum and Halovarius (92.6-95.1 % similarities), and showed low similarities with other genera within the family Natrialbaceae based on 16S rRNA genes. Phylogenomic analysis confirmed that the three strains formed a distinct clade separated from the related genera Halostagnicola and Natronococcus, which indicated that they may represent a novel genus of the family Natrialbaceae. The average nucleotide identity (ANI), in silico DNA-DNA hybridization (isDDH) and average amino acid identity (AAI) values among the three strains were no more than 87, 34 and 85 %, respectively, much lower than the threshold values for species demarcation. The major phospholipids of the three strains were phosphatidic acid (PA), phosphatidylglycerol (PG) and phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester (PGP-Me). The glycolipid profiles of the three strains were diverse; sulfated mannosyl glucosyl diether (S-DGD-1) and disulfated mannosyl glucosyl diether (S2-DGD) were found in strains LT55T and WLHS5T, while mannosyl glucosyl diether (DGD-1) and S-DGD-1 in strain SQT-29-1T. The combination of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, phylogenetic and genomic analyses suggested that strains WLHS5T (=CGMCC 1.13781T = JCM 33558T), SQT-29-1T (=CGMCC 1.16065T = JCM 33554T) and LT55T (=CGMCC 1.15188T = JCM 30838T) represent three novel species of a new genus within the family Natrialbaceae, for which the names, Halosolutus amylolyticus gen. nov., sp. nov., Halosolutus gelatinilyticus sp. nov. and Halosolutus halophilus sp. nov., are proposed. Genome-based classification of genera Natribaculum and Halovarius revealed that Halovarius luteus should be transferred to the genus Natribaculum as Natribaculum luteum comb. nov. and Natribaculum longum as a heterotypic synonym of Natribaculum breve Liu et al. 2015.

RESUMO

Six novel halophilic archaeal strains of XZYJT10T, XZYJ18T, XZYJT40T, XZYJT49T, YCN54T and LT46T were isolated from a solar saltern in Tibet, a salt lake in Shanxi, and a saline soil in Xinjiang, China. Sequence similarities of 16S rRNA and rpoB' genes among strains XZYJT10T, XZYJ18T, XZYJT40T, XZYJT49T, YCN54T, LT46T and current members of Halorussus were 90.6-97.8% and 87.8-96.4%, respectively. The average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values among these six strains and current Halorussus members were in the range of 76.5-87.5% and 21.0-33.8%, respectively. These values were all below the species boundary threshold values. The phylogenomic tree based on 122 conserved archaeal protein marker genes revealed that the six novel strains formed individual distinct branches and clustered tightly with Halorussus members. Several phenotypic characteristics distinguished the six strains from current Halorussus members. Polar lipid analysis showed that the six novel strains contained phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester, phosphatidylglycerol sulfate and two to three glycolipids. Phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic properties showed that the six strains represented six novel species within the genus Halorussus, for which the names Halorussus vallis sp. nov., Halorussus aquaticus sp. nov., Halorussus gelatinilyticus sp. nov., Halorussus limi sp. nov., Halorussus salilacus sp. nov., and Halorussus salinisoli sp. nov. are proposed.

RESUMO

Three halophilic archaeal strains, NEN8T, GDY88T and ZY14T, were isolated from a salt lake in Tibet and coarse sea salt samples from Guangdong and Hebei, China, respectively. These strains formed three separate clades (showing 94.4-95.8% and 87.1-89.4% similarities, respectively) and then clustered with the current Halorientalis members (showing 90.7-97.6% and 87.0-91.2% similarities, respectively), as revealed by phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA and rpoB' genes. The overall genome-related index, average nucleotide identity (ANI), in silico DNA-DNA hybridization (DDH), average amino acid identity (AAI) and the percentage of conserved proteins (POCP) values, among the three strains and members of the genus Halorientalis were 76.0-88.0%, 21.3-37.2%, 69.0-88.3% and 57.7-78.1%, clearly below the threshold values for species demarcation. Strains NEN8T, GDY88T and ZY14T could be distinguished from current Halorientalis species according to differential phenotypic characteristics. The major polar lipids of the three strains were phosphatidylglycerol (PG), phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester (PGP-Me), sulfated mannosyl glucosyl diether (S-DGD-1) and disulfated mannosyl glucosyl diether (S2-DGD). In addition, mannosyl glucosyl diether (DGD-1) was detected in strain NEN8T and phosphatidic acid (PA), posssulfated galactosyl mannosyl glucosyl diether (S-TGD-1) and sulfated mannosyl glucosyl diether-phosphatidic acid (S-DGD-PA) were observed in strain ZY14T. These results revealed that strains NEN8T (= CGMCC 1.17213T = JCM 34155T), GDY88T (= CGMCC 1.18548T = JCM 34481T) and ZY14T (= CGMCC 1.17178T = JCM 34154T) represent three novel species of the genus Halorientalis, for which the names Halorientalis salina sp. nov., Halorientalis marina sp. nov. and Halorientalis litorea sp. nov. are proposed.

RESUMO

Foodborne pathogens have long been recognized as major challenges for the food industry and repeatedly implicated in food product recalls and outbreaks of foodborne diseases. This study demonstrated the application of a recently discovered class of visible-light-activated carbon-based nanoparticles, namely, carbon dots (CDots), for photodynamic inactivation of foodborne pathogens. The results demonstrated that CDots were highly effective in the photoinactivation of Listeria monocytogenes in suspensions and on stainless steel surfaces. However, it was much less effective for Salmonella cells, but treatments with higher CDot concentrations and longer times were still able to inactivate Salmonella cells. The mechanistic implications of the observed different antibacterial effects on the two types of cells were assessed, and the associated generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), the resulting lipid peroxidation, and the leakage of nucleic acid and proteins from the treated cells were analyzed, with the results collectively suggesting CDots as a class of promising photodynamic inactivation agents for foodborne pathogens. IMPORTANCE Foodborne infectious diseases have long been recognized as major challenges in public health. Contaminations of food processing facilities and equipment with foodborne pathogens occur often. There is a critical need for new tools/approaches to control the pathogens and prevent such contaminations in food processing facilities and other settings. This study reports a newly established antimicrobial nanomaterials platform, CDots coupled with visible/natural light, for effective and efficient inactivation of representative foodborne bacterial pathogens. The study will contribute to promoting the practical application of CDots as a new class of promising nanomaterial-based photodynamic inactivation agents for foodborne pathogens.

RESUMO

AIM: To synthesize qualitative evidence on nurses' and midwives' experiences in the provision of surgical abortion care. We address three specific questions: (a) what are the experiences of nurses and midwives in surgical abortion care? (b) what are their responses and coping strategies? (c) what are the deficiencies in surgical abortion care? DESIGN: Qualitative studies were synthesized using Thomas and Harden's qualitative thematic synthesis method. DATA SOURCES: Electronic databases, including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus and Web of Science were searched. Grey literature using ProQuest was searched. The databases were searched from inception to 5 August 2020. REVIEW METHODS: The SPIDER (Sample, Phenomenon of Interest, Design, Evaluation and Research type) search tool was used in the literature search. Data synthesis was conducted using the three-stage thematic synthesis method described by Thomas and Harden. RESULTS: 966 studies were identified in the initial search and 18 studies were included. Four analytical themes were generated: 'Providing abortion care requires high emotional labour'; 'Professionalism of abortion care providers'; 'Initiatives in professional development' and 'Improving directions for high-quality abortion care'. CONCLUSION: Nurses and midwives indicated that they require support to enhance psychological health and improve professional skills. Hospital managers should organize regular debriefing or structured group workshops for exchange of practical experiences and strengthening emotional support. More research is required to establish comprehensive training related to abortion care for nurses and midwives. The findings demonstrate that optimization of abortion services should start from hospital management models, pain management and bereavement care. IMPACT: Understanding the experiences of nurses and midwives in abortion provision will inform future clinical practice in surgical abortion care, which would be helpful in improving the professionalism and confidence of abortion providers. Our findings have implications for the training, development of policies and standards for surgical abortion care for nurses and midwives.

RESUMO

The emergence of carbon dots (CDs) has opened up an exciting new field in the science and technology of carbon nanomaterials and has attracted increasing interest in recent years. Due to their diverse physicochemical properties and favourable attributes, such as quantum confinement effects and abundant surface defects, CDs and their derived hybrids have shown exciting and indispensable prospects in the energy conversion and storage fields. Considering the latest developments, in this review, we comprehensively summarize the classification and structure of CDs. Three strategies for structural engineering of CDs are presented and analyzed, in terms of the tuning of size and crystallinity, and the methodologies for surface modification and heteroatom doping, with a focus on the relationship among the synthesis methods, structure and properties of the concerned CDs. More importantly, the recent advances in energy-oriented applications of CDs, including photo- and electro-catalysis, light-emitting diodes, photovoltaic cells, lithium/sodium ion batteries and supercapacitors, will be systematically highlighted. Finally, we discuss and outline the remaining major challenges and opportunities for CDs in the future.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Transesophageal echocardiography may be used to assess pulmonary veins for atrial fibrillation ablation. No study focused on the role of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in evaluating the diameter and anatomy of pulmonary veins. METHODS: Among 142 atrial fibrillation patients (57.7% men; mean age, 60.5) hospitalised for catheter ablation, we assessed pulmonary veins and compared the measurements by TTE with cardiac computed tomography (CT) before ablation. Among 17 patients who had follow-up examinations, the second measurements were also studied. RESULTS: TTE identified and determined the diameters of 140 (98.6%) right and 140 (98.6%) left superior PVs, and 136 (95.7%) right and 135 (95.1%) left inferior PVs. A separate middle PV ostia was identified in 14 out of the 22 patients (63.6%) for the right side and in 2 out of 4 (50.0%) for the left side. The PV diameters before ablation assessed by CT vs. TTE were 17.96 vs. 18.07 mm for right superior, 15.92 vs. 15.51 mm for right inferior, 18.54 vs. 18.42 mm for left superior, and 15.56 vs. 15.45 mm for left inferior vein. The paired differences between the assessments of CT and TTE were not significant (P ≥ 0.31) except for the right inferior vein with a CT-minus-TTE difference of 0.41 mm (P = 0.018). The follow-up PV diameters by both CT (P ≥ 0.069) and TTE (P ≥ 0.093) were not different from baseline measurements in the 17 patients who had follow-up measurements. CONCLUSIONS: With a better understanding of PV anatomy in TTE imaging, assessing PV diameters by non-invasive TTE is feasible. However, the clear identification of anatomic variation might still be challenging.

RESUMO

Carbon dots (CDots) in a general structure of small carbon nanoparticles with various surface passivation schemes have emerged to represent a new class of carbon nanomaterials in now a rapidly advancing and expanding research field. Among various synthesis methods, the use of pre-processed and selected small carbon nanoparticles for deliberate chemical functionalization of the particle surface with organic molecules have produced high-performance and structurally better defined CDots. Specifically, small organic molecules 2,2'-(ethylenedioxy)bis(ethylamine) and 3-ethoxypropylamine were used for the effective surface passivation of the carbon nanoparticles via chemical functionalization to yield CDots that are brightly fluorescent and also structurally ultra-compact, amenable to various desired cell imaging applications. Thus, a systematic evaluation of these CDots on their cytotoxicity profiles is necessary, and performed in this study by using a diverse selection of cell lines. Also for fluorescence imaging, CDots were modified with their encapsulating selected organic dyes for much enhanced red/near-IR fluorescence emissions. These modified CDots with the dyes as guest were also evaluated for their cytotoxicity profiles. The results suggest that the CDots without and with the guest dyes are generally nontoxic to the selected cell lines, further supporting the notion that CDots can be used as high-performance yet nontoxic bioimaging agents.

RESUMO

A simple yet consequential modification was made to the popular carbonization processing of citric acid - polyethylenimine precursor mixtures to produce carbon dots (CDots). The modification was primarily on pushing the carbonization processing a little harder at a higher temperature, such as the hydrothermal processing condition of around 330 °C for 6 hours. The CDots thus produced are comparable in spectroscopic and other properties to those obtained in other more controlled syntheses including the deliberate chemical functionalization of preprocessed and selected small carbon nanoparticles, demonstrating the consistency in CDots and reaffirming their general definition as carbon nanoparticles with surface passivation by organic or other species. Equally significant is the finding that the modified processing of citric acid - polyethylenimine precursor mixtures could yield CDots of record-setting fluorescence performance, approaching the upper limit of being quantitatively fluorescent. Thus, the reported work serves as a demonstration on not only the need in selecting the right processing conditions and its associated opportunities in one-pot syntheses of CDots, but also the feasibility in pursuing the preparation of quantitatively fluorescent CDots, which represents an important milestone in the development and understanding of these fluorescent carbon nanomaterials.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study was aimed to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of real-time three-dimensional echocardiography (RT-3DE) measurement of left atrial (LA) volume and function in comparison with two-dimensional echocardiography (2DE) measurements in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. METHODS: A total of 50 pairs of AF patients and healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Indexed LA end-diastole volume (ILAEDV) and indexed LA end-systolic volume (ILAESV), as well as LA function indices such as segmental LA ejection fraction (LAEF), were assessed using 2DE Simpson's method and the RT-3DE method. RESULTS: The images showed that regional LA volume-time curves and LAEF were disordered in AF patients. ILAEDV and ILAESV were markedly increased and global LAEF was significantly decreased in AF patients compared with those in healthy controls (P < 0.01). No significant differences were found in ILAEDV, ILAESV, and LAEF levels as determined by the RT-3DE method or 2DE Simpson's method. Bland-Altman analysis showed that the two methods agreed well for measuring ILAEDV, ILAESV, and segmental LAEF. CONCLUSION: The RT-3DE method may be a feasible and accurate method for evaluating LA volume and function of AF patients in clinical practice.

RESUMO

Inspired by natural photosynthesis, the Z-scheme photocatalyst is a promising approach to extend the absorption spectra of photocatalysts and reduce the recombination of photo-generated electrons and holes. However, the fabrication of well-structured efficient multi-component Z-scheme photocatalysts is still a big challenge. We report here a facile one-pot method to synthesize graphene-based Z-scheme photocatalysts. The one-pot method guarantees good distribution of well-structured individual components on thin-layered rGO sheets with excellent connections. With inactive WO3 nanorods and inactive ß-In2S3 nanosheets attached to the surface of the rGO sheets, the synthesized In2S3/WO3/rGO tertiary nanocomposite shows excellent visible-light catalytic activity for hydrogen production at 1524 µmol g(-1) h(-1), demonstrating unambiguously the Z-scheme catalytic mechanism. To prevent cross-reactions and interferences, our strategy was to choose no more than one ionic precipitation reaction for the one-pot process, as unwanted cross-reactions could become inevitable if many cations and anions were present. This fabrication strategy should be applicable generally to synthesize other multiple-component nanocomposites, as demonstrated also by the preliminary results of the successful synthesis of the BiVO4/WO3/rGO nanocomposite (one ionic precipitation reaction and one hydrolysis reaction) and WO3/TiO2/rGO nanocomposite (two hydrolysis reactions).

RESUMO

Hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (BNNs) are analogous to their two-dimensional carbon counterparts in many materials properties, in particular, ultrahigh thermal conductivity, but also offer some unique attributes, including being electrically insulating, high thermal stability, chemical and oxidation resistance, low color, and high mechanical strength. Significant recent advances in the production of BNNs, understanding of their properties, and the development of polymeric nanocomposites with BNNs for thermally conductive yet electrically insulating materials and systems are highlighted herein. Major opportunities and challenges for further studies in this rapidly advancing field are also discussed.
