A Run-time System for Efficient Execution of Scientific Workflows on Distributed Environments.

Scientific workflow systems have been introduced in response to the demand of researchers from several domains of science who need to process and analyze increasingly larger datasets. The design of these systems is largely based on the observation that data analysis applications can be composed as pipelines or networks of computations on data. In this work, we present a runtime support system that is designed to facilitate this type of computation in distributed computing environments. Our system is optimized for data-intensive workflows, in which efficient management and retrieval of data, coordination of data processing and data movement, and check-pointing of intermediate results are critical and challenging issues. Experimental evaluation of our system shows that linear speedups can be achieved for sophisticated applications, which are implemented as a network of multiple data processing components.

Direito e psicanálise: a prática jurídica como um impossível / Law and psychoanalysis: the juridical practice as an impossible

Ao longo dos anos, a teoria psicanalítica foi requisitada inúmeras vezes para pensar sobre questões que estão para além do âmbito puramente individual. Neste escrito a teoria é utilizada com o objetivo de pensar o Direito tal como ele se apresenta atualmente, levando em consideração uma perspectiva sustentada pela teoria psicanalítica. Para isto, foram estudadas algumas das principais obras de Freud, como "Totem e tabu" e "Mal-estar na civilização", entre outras, assim como os estudos de alguns outros autores e estudiosos da teoria psicanalítica e do Direito. Através destes estudos, foi possível observar como o Direito, enquanto uma prática dita restritiva, possui um papel de grande importância não só para a construção, mas, também, para sustentação da sociedade tal como a conhecemos atualmente. Constata-se, ao fim dos estudos realizados, sua aproximação com a prática do governar, a qual é considerada por Freud como sendo uma das três profissões que ele nomeou "impossíveis".

Along the years psychoanalytical theory was ordered a number of times to think about questions beyond individual scope. In this paper the theory is used in order to think Law as it presents itself nowadays, considering a perspective based on the psychoanalytical theory. For this objective we used some of Freud's main works, as "totem and taboo" and "malaise in civilization", among others, as the studies of another authors of the psychoanalytical theory and the Law. Through these studies we could observe how Law practic, as a restrictive practice, have an important role on both construction and sustaining of society as we know. In the end of these studies, we verify it's approach to the practice of government, considered by Freud one of the three professions that he named "impossible".
