RESUMO

Tuta absoluta ("leafminer"), is a major pest of tomato crops worldwide. Controlling this insect is difficult due to its efficient infestation, rapid proliferation, and resilience to changing weather conditions. Furthermore, chemical pesticides have only a short-term effect due to rapid development of T. absoluta strains. Here, we show that a variety of tomato cultivars, treated with external phenylalanine solutions exhibit high resistance to T. absoluta, under both greenhouse and open field conditions, at different locations. A large-scale metabolomic study revealed that tomato leaves absorb and metabolize externally given Phe efficiently, resulting in a change in their volatile profile, and repellence of T. absoluta moths. The change in the volatile profile is due to an increase in three phenylalanine-derived benzenoid phenylpropanoid volatiles (BPVs), benzaldehyde, phenylacetaldehyde, and 2-phenylethanol. This treatment had no effect on terpenes and green leaf volatiles, known to contribute to the fight against insects. Phe-treated plants also increased the resistance of neighboring non-treated plants. RNAseq analysis of the neighboring non-treated plants revealed an exclusive upregulation of genes, with enrichment of genes related to the plant immune response system. Exposure of tomato plants to either benzaldehyde, phenylacetaldehyde, or 2-phenylethanol, resulted in induction of genes related to the plant immune system that were also induced due to neighboring Phe-treated plants. We suggest a novel role of phenylalanine-derived BPVs as mediators of plant-insect interactions, acting as inducers of the plant defense mechanisms.

Muscular fatty infiltration is a common issue after rotator cuff tears (RCTs), which impair shoulder function. Females suffer a higher prevalence and a more severe degree of muscular fatty infiltration after RCT when compared with males, with the underlying mechanisms remaining unclear. Fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) are the primary source of muscular fatty infiltration following RCT. Our findings disclose that gender-specific disparities in muscular fatty infiltration are linked to mTOR/ULK1-mediated autophagy of FAPs. Decreased autophagic activity contributes to adipogenic differentiation in female FAPs after RCT. Furthermore, metformin could enhance mTOR/ULK1-mediated autophagic processes of FAPs, thereby alleviating fatty infiltration and improving shoulder functionality after RCT. Together, our study reveals that gender differences in muscular fatty infiltration arise from distinct autophagic activities. Metformin could be a promising noninvasive intervention to ameliorate muscular fatty infiltration of RCT.NEW & NOTEWORTHY The current study demonstrated that gender-specific disparities in muscular fatty infiltration are attributed to mTOR/ULK1-mediated autophagy of FAPs. C-H bond activation reactions with transition metals typically proceed via the formation of alkane σ-complexes, where an alkane C-H σ-bond binds to the metal. Due to the weak nature of metal-alkane bonds, σ-complexes are challenging to characterize experimentally. Here, we establish the complete pathways of photochemical formation of the model σ-complex Cr(CO)5-alkane from Cr(CO)6 in octane solution and characterize the nature of its metal-ligand bonding interactions. Using femtosecond optical absorption spectroscopy, we find photoinduced CO dissociation from Cr(CO)6 to occur within the 100 fs time resolution of the experiment. Rapid geminate recombination by a fraction of molecules is found to occur with a time constant of 150 fs. The formation of bare Cr(CO)5 in its singlet ground state is followed by complexation of an octane molecule from solution with a time constant of 8.2 ps. Picosecond X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the Cr L-edge and O K-edge provides unique information on the electronic structure of the Cr(CO)5-alkane σ-complex from both the metal and ligand perspectives. Based on clear experimental observables, we find substantial destabilization of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital upon coordination of the C-H bond to the undercoordinated Cr center in the Cr(CO)5-alkane σ-complex, and we define this as a general, orbital-based descriptor of the metal-alkane bond. Our study demonstrates the value of combining optical and X-ray spectroscopic methods as complementary tools to study the stability and reactivity of alkane σ-complexes in their role as the decisive intermediates in C-H bond activation reactions.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is characterized by high mortality rates primarily due to its propensity for metastasis. Addressing this challenge necessitates the development of effective antimetastatic therapies. This study aimed to identify natural compounds with potential antimetastatic properties mainly based on the high-throughput phenotypic screening system. This system, utilizing luciferase reporter gene assays combined with scratch wound assays, evaluates compounds based on their influence on the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) marker E-cadherin. Through this approach, aurovertin B (AVB) was revealed to have significant antimetastatic capability. Notably, AVB exhibited substantial metastasis suppression in many TNBC cell lines, including MDA-MB-231, HCC1937 and 4T1. Also, its remarkable antimetastatic activity was demonstrated in vivo via the orthotopic breast cancer mouse model. Further exploration revealed a pronounced association between AVB-induced upregulation of DUSP1 (dual-specificity phosphatase 1) and its inhibitory effect on TNBC metastasis. Additionally, microarray analysis conducted to elucidate the underlying mechanism of the AVB-DUSP1 interaction identified ATF3 (activating transcription factor 3) as a critical transcription factor instrumental in DUSP1 transcriptional activation. This discovery, coupled with observations of enhanced ATF3-DUSP1 expression and consequent reduction in TNBC metastatic foci in response to AVB, provides novel insights into the molecular mechanisms driving metastasis in TNBC. Significance Statement We construct a high-throughput phenotypic screening system utilizing EMT marker E-cadherin promoter luciferase reporter gene combined with scratch wound assays. Aurovertin B was revealed to possess significant antimetastatic activity through this approach, which was further demonstrated via in vivo and in vitro experiments. The discovery of the regulatory role of the ATF3-DUSP1 pathway enriches our understanding of TNBC metastasis mechanism and suggests the potential of ATF3 and DUSP1 as biomarkers for diagnosing TNBC metastasis.

BACKGROUND: Although the long-term prognosis of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is favorable, distant metastasis significantly compromises the prognosis and quality of life for patients with PTC. The Cadherin family plays a pivotal role in tumor metastasis; however, the involvement of Cadherin 4 (CDH4) in the metastatic cascade remains elusive. METHODS: The expression and subcellular localization of CDH4 were determined through immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and western blot analyses. The impact of CDH4 on cell migration, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis was assessed using transwell assays, tube formation assays, and animal experiments. Immunoprecipitation assay and mass spectrometry were employed to examine protein associations. The influence of CDH4 on the subcellular expression of ß-catenin and active ß-catenin was investigated via western blotting and immunofluorescence. Protein stability and ubiquitination assay were employed to verify the impact of CDH4 on ß-catenin degradation. Rescue experiments were performed to ensure the significance of CDH4 in regulating nuclear ß-catenin signaling. RESULTS: CDH4 was found to be significantly overexpressed in PTC tissues and predominantly localized in the cytoplasm. Furthermore, the overexpression of CDH4 in tumor tissues is associated with lymph node metastasis in PTC patients. Cytosolic CDH4 promoted the migration, invasion, and lung metastasis of PTC cells and stimulated the angiogenesis and tumorigenesis of PTC; however, this effect could be reversed by Tegavivint, an antagonist of ß-catenin. Mechanistically, cytosolic CDH4 disrupted the interaction between ß-catenin and ß-TrCP1, consequently impeding the ubiquitination process of ß-catenin and activating the nuclear ß-catenin signaling. CONCLUSIONS: CDH4 induces PTC angiogenesis and metastasis via the inhibition of ß-TrCP1-dependent ubiquitination of ß-Catenin.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias, with its diagnosis being closely tied to higher rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. AF is associated with a range of dangerous complications including stroke and heart failure, making it a key driver of healthcare spending and a major threat to global public health. The precise mechanisms that govern AF incidence and the onset of related complications, however, remain uncertain. Ferroptotic cell death has been the focus of rising interest in the cardiac arrhythmias, and there is recent evidence supporting a role for atrial ferroptosis as a mediator of AF development. Interventional strategies focused on ferroptotic activity, such as novel ferroptosis inhibitors, have also shown promise as a means of protecting against AF through their ability to reduce iron overload. In this review, we provide a summary of the proposed mechanisms whereby ferroptosis contributes to the pathophysiology of AF and their therapeutic implications.

BACKGROUND: Despite the potential radiotoxicity in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients with high-dose 131I therapy, the alterations and regulatory mechanisms dependent on intestinal microecology remain poorly understood. We aimed to identify the characteristics of the gut microbiota and metabolites in DTC patients suffering from high-dose 131I therapy and explore the radioprotective mechanisms underlying arachidonic acid (ARA) treatment. METHODS: A total of 102 patients with DTC were recruited, with fecal samples collected before and after 131I therapy for microbiome and untargeted and targeted metabolomic analyses. Mice were exposed to total body irradiation with ARA replenishment and antibiotic pretreatment and were subjected to metagenomic, metabolomic, and proteomic analyses. RESULTS: 131I therapy significantly changed the structure of gut microbiota and metabolite composition in patients with DTC. Lachnospiraceae were the most dominant bacteria after 131I treatment, and metabolites with decreased levels and pathways related to ARA and linoleic acid were observed. In an irradiation mouse model, ARA supplementation not only improved quality of life and recovered hematopoietic and gastrointestinal systems but also ameliorated oxidative stress and inflammation and preserved enteric microecology composition. Additionally, antibiotic intervention eliminated the radioprotective effects of ARA. Proteomic analysis and ursolic acid pretreatment showed that ARA therapy greatly influenced intestinal lipid metabolism in mice subjected to irradiation by upregulating the expression of hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A synthase 1. CONCLUSION: These findings highlight that ARA, as a key metabolite, substantially contributes to radioprotection. Our study provides novel insights into the pivotal role that the microbiota-metabolite axis plays in radionuclide protection and offers effective biological targets for treating radiation-induced adverse effects.

Human adenovirus subgroup B (HAdV B) is one of the major pathogens of human respiratory virus infections, which has considerable transmission and morbidity in a variety of populations. Therefore, rapid and specific detection of HAdV B in clinical samples is essential for diagnosis. This study aimed to develop a product for rapid nucleic acid detection of HAdV B using recombinase polymerase amplification assay (RPA) and validate the performance of this method by using clinical samples. Results showed that this method achieved a lower limit of detection (LOD) of 10 copies/µL and had no cross-reactivity with other adenovirus subgroups or respiratory pathogens. In addition to high sensitivity, it can be completed within 30 min at 40 °C. There is no need to perform nucleic acid extraction on clinical samples. Taking qPCR as the gold standard, the RPA assay possessed a high concordance (Cohen's kappa, 0.896; 95% CI 0.808-0.984; P < 0.001), with a sensitivity of 87.80% and a specificity of 100.00%. The RPA assay developed in this study provided a simple and highly specific method, making it an important tool for rapid adenovirus nucleic acid detection and facilitating large-scale population screening in resource-limited settings.

BACKGROUND: The diagnostic assay leveraging multiple reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) could meet the requirements for rapid nucleic acid detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). METHODS: The devised assay merged the lateral flow assay with the RT-LAMP technology and designed specific primers for the simultaneous detection of the target and human-derived internal reference genes within a single reaction. An inquiry into the assay's limit of detection (LOD), sensitivity, and specificity was carried out. The effectiveness of this assay was validated using 498 clinical specimens. RESULTS: This LOD of the assay was determined to be 500 copies/mL, and there was no observed cross-reaction with other respiratory pathogens. The detection results derived from clinical specimens showed substantial concordance with those from real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) (Cohen's kappa, 0.876; 95% CI: 0.833-0.919; p<0.005). The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity were 87.1% and 100%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The RT-LAMP assay, paired with a straightforward and disposable lateral immunochromatographic strip, achieves visual detection of dual targets for SARS-CoV-2 immediatly. Moreover, the entire procedure abstains from nucleic acids extraction. The samples are lysed at room temperature and subsequently proceed directly to the RT-LAMP reaction, which can be executed within 30 minutes at a constant temperature of 60-65°C. Then, the RT-LAMP amplification products are visualized using colloidal gold test strips. Ventricular arrhythmias are the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in patients after myocardial infarction (MI). Connexin43 (Cx43) is the most important gap junction channel-forming protein in cardiomyocytes. Dysfunction of Cx43 contributes to impaired myocardial conduction and the development of ventricular arrhythmias. Following an MI, Cx43 undergoes structural remodeling, including expression abnormalities, and redistribution. These alterations detrimentally affect intercellular communication and electrical conduction within the myocardium, thereby increasing the susceptibility to post-infarction ventricular arrhythmias. Emerging evidence suggests that post-translational modifications play essential roles in Cx43 regulation after MI. Therefore, Cx43-targeted management has the potential to be a promising protective strategy for the prevention and treatment of post infarction ventricular arrhythmias. In this article, we primarily reviewed the regulatory mechanisms of Cx43 mediated post-translational modifications on post-infarction ventricular arrhythmias. Furthermore, Cx43-targeted therapy have also been discussed, providing insights into an innovative treatment strategy for ventricular arrhythmias after MI.

BACKGROUND: Observational studies have indicated that the plasma lipid profiles of patients with atopic dermatitis show significant differences compared to healthy individuals. However, the causal relationship between these differences remains unclear due to the inherent limitations of observational studies. Our objective was to explore the causal effects between 179 plasma lipid species and atopic dermatitis, and to investigate whether circulating inflammatory proteins serve as mediators in this causal pathway. METHODS: We utilized public genome-wide association studies data to perform a bidirectional two-sample, two-step mendelian randomization study. The inverse variance-weighted method was adopted as the primary analysis technique. MR-Egger and the weighted median were used as supplementary analysis methods. MR-PRESSO, Cochran's Q test, and MR-Egger intercept test were applied for sensitivity analyses to ensure the robustness of our findings. RESULTS: The Mendelian randomization analysis revealed that levels of Phosphatidylcholine (PC) (18:1_20:4) (OR: 0.950, 95% CI: 0.929-0.972, p = 6.65 × 10- 6), Phosphatidylethanolamine (O-18:1_20:4) (OR: 0.938, 95% CI: 0.906-0.971, p = 2.79 × 10- 4), Triacylglycerol (TAG) (56:6) (OR: 0.937, 95% CI: 0.906-0.969, p = 1.48 × 10- 4) and TAG (56:8) (OR: 0.918, 95% CI: 0.876-0.961, p = 2.72 × 10- 4) were inversely correlated with the risk of atopic dermatitis. Conversely, PC (18:1_20:2) (OR: 1.053, 95% CI: 1.028-1.079, p = 2.11 × 10- 5) and PC (O-18:1_20:3) (OR: 1.086, 95% CI: 1.039-1.135, p = 2.47 × 10- 4) were positively correlated with the risk of atopic dermatitis. The results of the reverse directional Mendelian randomization analysis indicated that atopic dermatitis exerted no significant causal influence on 179 plasma lipid species. The level of circulating IL-18R1 was identified as a mediator for the increased risk of atopic dermatitis associated with higher levels of PC (18:1_20:2), accounting for a mediation proportion of 9.07%. CONCLUSION: Our research suggests that plasma lipids can affect circulating inflammatory proteins and may serve as one of the pathogenic factors for atopic dermatitis. Targeting plasma lipid levels as a treatment for atopic dermatitis presents a potentially novel approach.

OBJECTIVE: The study aims to explore the relationship between modifiable lifestyle factors (physical activity, sedentary time, body composition, muscle strength) and mental health, and predict future changes in mental health. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 133 men (age: 29.03 ± 6.605 years, BMI: 23.58 ± 2.688 kg/m²) to assess baseline body composition, muscle strength, sedentary time, and mental health, with follow-up at 3 months. F-tests were employed to compare the differences in mental health on sedentary time and body composition variables. Spearman correlation analysis was used to examine correlations between variables. RESULTS: Spearman's correlation analysis showed that sedentary time, muscle strength and mental health of the subjects were significantly correlated. BMI, BFM, BFMI, PBF were higher in subjects with ≥ 4 h of sedentary time than in the other two shorter sedentary time groups. Subjects with higher PBF (p = 0.047, η2 = 0.030) and BFM (p = 0.032, η2 = 0.035) had severer depression. Subjects who sat for ≥ 4 h at a time were more severely depressed than those who sat for 2-4 h (p = 0.020). Change in depression was significantly negatively correlated with BMI, BFM, BFMI and PBF. Subjects with higher PBF (p = 0.023, η2 = 0.050) and BFM (p = 0.005, η2 = 0.075) at the baseline had less change in depression. CONCLUSION: A Significant correlation was found between sedentary time, body composition and mental health, and baseline body composition predicted changes in mood three months later.

Futoquinol (Fut) is a compound extracted from Piper kadsura that has a nerve cell protection effect. However, it is unclear whether Fut has protective effects in Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this study, we aimed to explore the therapeutic effect of Fut in AD and its underlying mechanism. UPLC-MS/MS method was performed to quantify Fut in the hippocampus of mice brain. The cognition ability, neuronal and mitochondria damage, and levels of Aß1-42, Aß1-40, p-Tau, oxidative stress, apoptosis, immune cells, and inflammatory factors were measured in Aß25-35-induced mice. The content of bacterial meta-geometry was predicted in the microbial composition based on 16S rDNA. The protein levels of HK II, p-p38MAPK, and p38MAPK were detected. PC-12 cells were cultured in vitro, and glucose was added to activate glycolysis to further explore the mechanism of action of Fut intervention in AD. Fut improved the memory and learning ability of Aß25-35 mice, and reduced neuronal damage and the deposition of Aß and Tau proteins. Moreover, Fut reduced mitochondrial damage, the levels of oxidative stress, apoptosis, and inflammatory factors. Fut significantly inhibited the expression of HK II and p-p38MAPK proteins. The in vitro experiment showed that p38MAPK was activated and Fut action inhibited after adding 10 mM glucose. Fut might inhibit the activation of p38MAPK through the glycolysis pathway, thereby reducing oxidative stress, apoptosis, and inflammatory factors and improving Aß25-35-induced memory impairment in mice. These data provide pharmacological rationale for Fut in the treatment of AD.

BACKGROUND: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) presents a significant clinical challenge, particularly due to its high propensity for locoregional recurrence. Current research underscores the need to unravel the complex interactions within the tumor microenvironment. This study addresses the critical gap in understanding how FOS modulates the immune landscape in HNSCC, with a focus on its influence on fibroblast and myeloid cell dynamics. METHODS: Employing a comprehensive approach, we analyzed tissue samples from HNSCC patients and adjacent non-cancerous tissues using bulk RNA sequencing complemented by in-depth bioinformatics analyses, including gene ontology (GO), Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis, and immune infiltration assessment. A pivotal aspect of our research involved dissecting single-cell RNA-seq data from GSE234933 to elucidate the cell-type-specific expression of FOS. RESULTS: We found that FOS expression varies significantly in different cell populations in the HNSCC tumor microenvironment, especially in fibroblasts and myeloid cells. This expression difference may reflect the different roles of these cells in tumor progression and their impact on the tumor microenvironment. CONCLUSION: Our results uncover a significant correlation between FOS expression and key immune and hypoxia-related pathways, suggesting its integral role in the tumor microenvironment. These findings not only enhance our understanding of HNSCC pathogenesis but also highlight FOS as a potential therapeutic target. This study marks a significant step towards addressing the urgent need for targeted interventions in HNSCC, particularly in the context of locoregional recurrence.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between the serum uric acid to creatinine (UA/Cr) ratio and the prevalence of hypertension. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we included 8571 individuals from the China Health and Nutrition Survey. Logistic regression analysis and restricted cubic spline (RCS) were used to analyze the relationship between the UA/Cr ratio and hypertension. RESULTS: Compared with individuals without hypertension, individuals with hypertension had higher UA/Cr ratios. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that a higher UA/Cr ratio was closely related to a higher risk of hypertension (as a continuous variable, OR: 1.054, 95% CI: 1.014-1.095, p = 0.007; as a categorical variable, Q3 vs. Q1, OR: 1.183, 95% CI: 1.011-1.384, p = 0.035; Q4 vs. Q1, OR: 1.347, 95% CI: 1.146-1.582, p < 0.001). Subgroup analysis revealed that the correlation between the UA/Cr ratio and hypertension risk was stable in all subgroups except for the subgroup with diabetes and the subgroup with a BMI ≥ 28 kg/m2 (p < 0.05). Sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of the relationship between a higher UA/Cr ratio and a higher risk of hypertension (p < 0.05). The RCS showed that the UA/Cr ratio was nonlinearly related to hypertension risk. Further threshold effect showed that only a UA/Cr ratio less than 5.0 was related to hypertension risk (OR: 1.178, 95% CI: 1.086-1.278, p < 0.001), and the 2-piecewise linear regression model was superior to the 1-line linear regression model (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The UA/Cr ratio was associated with the prevalence of hypertension.

Three new prenylated C6-C3 compounds (1-3), together with two known prenylated C6-C3 compounds (4-5) and one known C6-C3 derivative (6), were isolated from the roots of Illicium brevistylum A. C. Smith. The structures of 1-3 were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including 1D and 2D NMR, HRESIMS, CD experiments and ECD calculations. The structure of illibrefunone A (1) was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. All compounds were evaluated in terms of their anti-inflammatory potential on nitric oxide (NO) generation in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated murine RAW264.7 macrophages and murine BV2 microglial cells, antiviral activity against Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) and influenza virus A/Hanfang/359/95 (H3N2). Compounds 3 and 4 exhibited potent inhibitory effects on the production of NO in RAW 264.7 cells with IC50 values of 20.57 and 12.87 µM respectively, which were greater than those of dexamethasone (positive control). Compounds 1 and 4-6 exhibited weak activity against Coxsackievirus B3, with IC50 values ranging from 25.87 to 33.33 µM.

Three new cadinane sesquiterpenes (1-3) and three known sesquiterpenes were isolated from the stems and branches of Illicium ternstroemioides A. C. Smith. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by extensive analysis of spectroscopic and HRESIMS data. The structures of illiternins A-C (1-3) were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction, allowing for the determination of their absolute configurations. Compounds 3 and 6 exhibited antiviral activity against Coxsackievirus B3 with IC50 values of 33.3 and 57.7 µM, respectively.

The metabolic network's primary sources of free fatty acids (FFAs) are long- and medium-chain fatty acids of triglyceride origin and short-chain fatty acids produced by intestinal microorganisms through dietary fibre fermentation. Recent studies have demonstrated that FFAs not only serve as an energy source for the body's metabolism but also participate in regulating arterial function. Excess FFAs have been shown to lead to endothelial dysfunction, vascular hypertrophy, and vessel wall stiffness, which are important triggers of arterial hypertension and atherosclerosis. Nevertheless, free fatty acid receptors (FFARs) are involved in the regulation of arterial functions, including the proliferation, differentiation, migration, apoptosis, inflammation, and angiogenesis of vascular endothelial cells (VECs) and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). They actively regulate hypertension, endothelial dysfunction, and atherosclerosis. The objective of this review is to examine the roles and heterogeneity of FFAs and FFARs in the regulation of arterial function, with a view to identifying the points of intersection between their actions and providing new insights into the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with arterial dysfunction, as well as the development of targeted drugs.

Recovering phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) from wastewater not only contributes to environmental protection but also aligns with sustainable development goals. This study employed a magnesium-air fuel cell (Mg-O2-FC) to extract P and N from wastewater in the form of struvite (MgNH4·6H2O), based on the removal efficiency of ammonia and phosphate, electricity generation capacity and struvite purity to determine the optimal operation parameters. These parameters included hydraulic retention time (HRT), service life of magnesium sheet, and precipitation discharge frequency. The results showed that the removal efficiency of ammonia from 0 to 4h was 55.99%, and that from 4 to 12h was only 15.74%. The phosphate removal efficiency in the initial cycle was 97.68% but decreased to 63.25% after 24h. The phosphate removal rate in 2 min increased by 145% when the precipitation discharge frequency increased from 4 h/time to 24 h/time. Consequently, the HRT, service life of the magnesium sheet, and precipitation discharge frequency were selected as 4 h, 24 h, and 24 h/time. These optimized conditions provide valuable insights for the practical implementation of Mg-O2-FC in recovering N and P from wastewater.

OBJECTIVE: Try to create a dose gradient function (DGF) and test its effectiveness in reducing radiation induced lung injury in breast cancer radiotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Radiotherapy plans of 30 patients after breast-conserving surgery were included in the study. The dose gradient function was defined as DGH=VDVp3, then the area under the DGF curve of each plan was calculated in rectangular coordinate system, and the minimum area was used as the trigger factor, and other plans were triggered to optimize for area reduction. The dosimetric parameters of target area and organs at risk in 30 cases before and after re-optimization were compared. RESULTS: On the premise of ensuring that the target dose met the clinical requirements, the trigger factor obtained based on DGF could further reduce the V5, V10, V20, V30 and mean lung dose (MLD) of the ipsilateral lung in breast cancer radiotherapy, P < 0.01. And the D2cc and mean heart dose (MHD) of the heart were also reduced, P < 0.01. Besides, the NTCPs of the ipsilateral lung and the heart were also reduced, P < 0.01. CONCLUSION: The trigger factor obtained based on DGF is efficient in reducing radiation induced lung injury in breast cancer radiotherapy.
