RESUMO

Efficient pure-red emission light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are essential for high-definition displays, yet achieving pure-red emission is hindered by challenges like phase segregation and spectral instability when using halide mixing. Additionally, strongly confined quantum dots (QDs) produced through traditional hot-injection methods face byproduct contamination due to poor solubility of metal halide salts in the solvent octadecene (ODE) at low temperatures. Herein, we introduced a novel method using a benzene-series strongly electrostatic potential solvent instead of ODE to prevent PbI2 intermediates and promote their dissolution into [PbI3]-. Increasing methyl groups on benzene yields precisely sized (4.4 ± 0.1 nm) CsPbI3 QDs with exceptional properties: a narrow 630 nm PL peak with photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 97%. Sequential ligand post-treatment optimizes optical and electrical performance of QDs. PeLEDs based on optimized QDs achieve pure-red EL (CIE: 0.700, 0.290) approaching Rec. 2020 standards, with an EQE of 25.2% and T50 of 120 min at initial luminance of 107 cd/m2.

RESUMO

4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) Inhibitor Sensitive 1 (HIS1) is an endogenous gene of rice, conferring broad-spectrum resistance to ß-triketone herbicides. Similar genes, known as HIS1-like genes (HSLs), exhibit analogous functions and can complement the herbicide-resistant characteristics endowed by HIS1. The identification of HIS1 and HSLs represents a valuable asset, as the intentional pairing of herbicides with resistance genes emerges as an effective strategy for crop breeding. Encoded by HIS1 is a Fe(II)/2-oxoglutarate-dependent oxygenase responsible for detoxifying ß-triketone herbicides through hydroxylation. However, the precise structure supporting this function remains unclear. This work, which determined the crystal structure of HIS1, reveals a conserved core motif of Fe(II)/2-oxoglutarate-dependent oxygenase and pinpoints the crucial residue dictating substrate preference between HIS1 and HSL.

RESUMO

Recently, there has been significant interest in the generation of coherent temporal solitons in optical microresonators. In this Letter, we present a demonstration of dissipative Kerr soliton generation in a microrod resonator using an auxiliary-laser-assisted thermal response control method. In addition, we are able to control the repetition rate of the soliton over a range of 200 kHz while maintaining the pump laser frequency, by applying external stress tuning. Through the precise control of the PZT voltage, we achieve a stability level of 3.9 × 10-10 for residual fluctuation of the repetition rate when averaged 1 s. Our platform offers precise tuning and locking capabilities for the repetition frequency of coherent mode-locked combs in microresonators. This advancement holds great potential for applications in spectroscopy and precision measurements.

Active nematics represent a range of dense active matter systems which can engender spontaneous flows and self-propelled topological defects. Two-dimensional (2D) active nematic theory and simulation have been successful in explaining many quasi-2D experiments in which self-propelled +1/2 defects are observed to move along their symmetry axis. However, many active liquid crystals are essentially chiral nematic, but their twist mode becomes irrelevant under the 2D assumption. Here, we use theory and simulation to examine a three-dimensional active chiral nematic confined to a thin film, thus forming a quasi-2D system. We predict that the self-propelled +1/2 disclination in a curved thin film can break its mirror symmetry by moving circularly. Our prediction is confirmed by hydrodynamic simulations of thin spherical-shell and thin cylindrical-shell systems. In the spherical-shell confinement, the four emerged +1/2 disclinations exhibit rich dynamics as a function of activity and chirality. As such, we have proposed a new symmetry-breaking scenario in which self-propelled defects in quasi-2D active nematics can acquire an active angular velocity, greatly enriching their dynamics for finer control and emerging applications.

The revelation of MoS2as an efficient electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing material has ratcheted up people's attention to other transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). To date, extensive studies have been conducted on the semiconducting VIB-Group TMDs while research into metallic VB-Group TMDs has been relatively rare. In this work, we successfully fabricated VB-Group VSe2microspheres through a facile one-step hydrothermal method and used them as EMW absorbers. The flowerlike VSe2microspheres based on VSe2nanosheets exhibited a minimum reflection loss of 46.58 dB with an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.86 GHz. The influence of material morphology, microstructure, and dielectric properties on the EMW absorption performance was systematically investigated. The hierarchically layered structure promoted dielectric loss and EMW absorption by means of multiple reflection, interfacial polarization and related relaxation, and enhanced attenuation ability. This work not only demonstrates that VSe2is potentially a high-efficiency single component EMW absorber, but also provides fresh insights into exploration on the EMW loss mechanisms of the metallic TMD-based absorbing materials.

BACKGROUNDS: Greenspaces are indispensable for the construction of a healthy city. Research has shown that greenspaces contribute to the reduction of cardiovascular risks. However, the role of greenspace morphology in the development of a healthy city is not well understood. METHODS: Our study utilized data from a cardiovascular disease screening cohort comprising 106,238 residents in Anhui Province, China, aged between 35 and 75 years. We calculated landscape indices of each participant using high-resolution land cover data to measure the greenness, fragmentation, connectivity, aggregation, and shape of greenspaces. We used a multivariate linear regression model to assess the associations between these landscape indices and triglyceride risk, and employed a structural equation model to explore the potential contributions of heatwaves and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) to this association. RESULTS: Overall, triglyceride was expected to increase by 0.046% (95% CI: 0.040%, 0.052%) with a 1% increase in the percentage of built-up area. Conversely, an increase in the percentage of greenspace was associated with a 0.270% (95% CI: 0.337%, -0.202%) decrease in triglyceride levels. Furthermore, when the total greenspace was held constant, the shape, connectedness, and aggregation of greenspace were inversely correlated with triglyceride levels, with effects of -0.605% (95% CI: 1.012%, -0.198%), -0.031% (95% CI: 0.039%, -0.022%), and -0.049% (95% CI: 0.058%, -0.039%), respectively. Likewise, the protective effect of the area-weighed mean shape index was higher than that of the total amount of greenspace. The stratification results showed that urban residents benefited more from greenspace exposure. Greenspace morphology can minimize triglyceride risk by reducing pollutant and heatwaves, with aggregation having the greatest effect on reducing pollutants whereas fragmentation is more efficient at reducing heatwaves. CONCLUSION: Exposure to the greenspaces morphology is associated with a reduction in triglyceride risk. The study has important practical and policy implications for early health monitoring and the spatial layout of greenspace and will provide scientific information for healthy urban planning by reducing unfavorable health consequences.

LN005 is a peptide-drug conjugate (PDC) targeting glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78) to treat several types of cancer, such as breast, colon, and prostate cancer.As a new drug modality, understanding its metabolism and elimination pathways will help us to have a whole picture of it. Currently, there are no metabolic studies on LN005; therefore, this study aimed to investigate the metabolism of LN005, clarify its metabolic profile in the liver S9s of different species, and identify the major metabolic pathways and differences between species.The incubation samples were measured by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography combined with orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Orbitrap-HRMS).The results showed that LN005 was metabolised by liver S9s, and four metabolites were identified. The main metabolic pathway of LN005 in liver S9s was oxidative deamination to ketone or hydrolysis. Similar metabolic profiles were observed in mouse, rat, dog, monkey, and human liver S9s, indicating no differences between these four animal species and humans.This study provides information for the structural modification and optimisation of LN005 and affords a reference for subsequent animal experiments and human metabolism of other PDCs.

Legionella pneumophila aspartate aminotransferase (Lpg0070) is a member of the transaminase and belongs to the pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP)-dependent superfamily. It is responsible for the transfer of α-amino between aspartate and α-ketoglutarate to form glutamate and oxaloacetate. Here, we report the crystal structure of Lpg0070 at the resolution of 2.14 Å and 1.7 Å, in apo-form and PLP-bound, respectively. Our structural analysis revealed the specific residues involved in the PLP binding and free form against PLP-bound supported conformational changes before substrate recognition. In vitro enzyme activity proves that the absence of the N-terminal arm reduces the enzyme activity of Lpg0070. These data provide further evidence to support the N-terminal arm plays a crucial role in catalytic activity.

The soliton microcomb has sparked interest in high-precision distance measurement, owing to its ultrahigh repetition rate and chip-integrated scale. We report absolute distance measurements based on synthetic wavelength interferometry with a soliton microcomb. We stabilized the repetition rate of 48.98 GHz through injection locking, with fluctuations below 0.25 Hz. Distance measurements up to 64 mm were demonstrated, presenting residuals below 2.7 µm compared with a referenced laser interferometer. Long-term distance measurements were made at two fixed positions of approximately 0.2 m and 1.4 m, resulting in a minimum Allan deviation as low as 56.2 nm at an average time of 0.05 s. The dynamic demonstration illustrated that the proposed system could track round-trip motion of 3 mm at speeds up to 100 mm/s. The proposed distance measurement system is, to our knowledge, the first microcomb-based synthetic wavelength interferometer and achieves a ranging precision of tens of nanometers, with potential applications in the fields of satellite formation flying, high-end manufacturing, and micro-nano processing.

Topological defects are a ubiquitous phenomenon across different physical systems. A better understanding of defects can be helpful in elucidating the physical behaviors of many real materials systems. In nematic liquid crystals, defects exhibit unique optical signatures and can segregate impurities, showing their promise as molecular carriers and nano-reactors. Continuum theory and simulations have been successfully applied to link static and dynamical behaviors of topological defects to the material constants of the underlying nematic. However, further evidence and molecular details are still lacking. Here we perform molecular dynamics simulations of Gay-Berne particles, a model nematic, to examine the molecular structures and dynamics of +1/2 defects in a thin-film nematic. Specifically, we measure the bend-to-splay ratio K3/K1 using two independent, indirect measurements, showing good agreement. Next, we study the annihilation event of a pair of ±1/2 defects, of which the trajectories are consistent with experiments and hydrodynamic simulations. We further examine the thermodynamics of defect annihilation in an NVE ensemble, leading us to correctly estimate the elastic modulus by using the energy conservation law. Finally, we explore effects of defect annihilation in regions of nonuniform temperature within these coarse-grained molecular models which cannot be analysed by existing continuum level simulations. We find that +1/2 defects tend to move toward hotter areas and their change of speed in a temperature gradient can be quantitatively understood through a term derived from the temperature dependence of the elastic modulus. As such, our work has provided molecular insights into structures and dynamics of topological defects, presented unique and accessible methods to measure elastic constants by inspecting defects, and proposed an alternative control parameter of defects using temperature gradient.

Integrated narrow-linewidth lasers are the key devices in compact coherent optical systems of metrology, sensing, and optical microwave generation. Here, we demonstrate a hybrid integrated laser based on an optical negative feedback scheme. The laser is composed of a commercial distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode and an on-chip micro-resonator with a Q-factor of 0.815 million. The feedback optical field is coupled back to the laser cavity through the back facet. Therefore, the laser can maintain the lasing efficiency of the DFB laser diode. The linewidth of the DFB laser diode is compressed from 2 MHz to 6 kHz, corresponding to the linewidth reduction factor of 25.2 dB. The theoretical result shows that the laser performance still has a huge improvement margin through precise control of the detuning between laser frequency and the micro-resonator, as well as the phase delay of the feedback optical field. The hybrid narrow-linewidth laser diode has wide application prospects in coherent optical systems benefitting from the low cost and volume productivity.

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies show that outdoor artificial light at night (ALAN) is linked to metabolic hazards, but its association with metabolic syndrome (MetS) remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the association of outdoor ALAN with MetS in middle-aged and elderly Chinese. METHODS: From 2017-2020, we conducted a cross-sectional study in a total of 109,452 participants living in ten cities of eastern China. MetS was defined by fasting blood glucose (FG), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), blood pressure (BP), and waist circumference (WC). In 2021, we followed up 4395 participants without MetS at the baseline. Each participant's five-year average exposure to outdoor ALAN, as well as their exposure to green space type, were measured through matching to their address. Generalized linear models were used to assess the associations of outdoor ALAN with MetS. Stratified analyses were performed by sex, age, region, physical activity, and exposure to green space. RESULTS: In the cross-sectional study, compared to the first quantile (Q1) of outdoor ALAN exposure, the odds ratios (ORs) of MetS were 1.156 [95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.111-1.203] and 1.073 (95 %CI: 1.021-1.128) respectively in the third and fourth quantiles (Q3, Q4) of outdoor ALAN exposure. The follow-up study found that, compared to the first quantile (Q1) of outdoor ALAN exposure, the OR of MetS in Q4 of ALAN exposure was 1.204 (95 %CI: 1.019-1.422). Adverse associations of ALAN with MetS components, including high FG, high TG, and obesity, were also found. Greater associations of ALAN with MetS were found in males, the elderly, urban residents, those with low frequency of physical activity, and those living in areas with low levels of grass cover and tree cover. CONCLUSIONS: Outdoor ALAN exposure is associated with an increased MetS risk, especially in males, the elderly, urban residents, those lacking physical activity, and those living in lower levels of grass cover and tree cover.

In self-driving cars, object detection algorithms are becoming increasingly important, and the accurate and fast recognition of objects is critical to realize autonomous driving. The existing detection algorithms are not ideal for the detection of small objects. This paper proposes a YOLOX-based network model for multi-scale object detection tasks in complex scenes. This method adds a CBAM-G module to the backbone of the original network, which performs grouping operations on CBAM. It changes the height and width of the convolution kernel of the spatial attention module to 7 × 1 to improve the ability of the model to extract prominent features. We proposed an object-contextual feature fusion module, which can provide more semantic information and improve the perception of multi-scale objects. Finally, we considered the problem of fewer samples and less loss of small objects and introduced a scaling factor that could increase the loss of small objects to improve the detection ability of small objects. We validated the effectiveness of the proposed method on the KITTI dataset, and the mAP value was 2.46% higher than the original model. Experimental comparisons showed that our model achieved superior detection performance compared to other models.

Quantum metrology can approach measurement precision of Heisenberg Limit using an ideal quantum source, which has attracted a great interest in fundamental physical studies. However, the quantum metrology precision is impressionable to the system noise in experiments. In this paper, we analyze the influence of multiphoton events on the phase estimation precision when using a nondeterministic single photon source. Our results show there are an extra bias and quantum enhanced region restriction due to multiphoton events, which declines the quantum phase estimation precision. A limitation of multiphoton probability is obtained for quantum enhanced phase estimation accuracy under different experimental model. Our results provide beneficial suggestions for improving quantum metrology precision in future experiments.

A high-sensitivity and large-capacity free space optical (FSO) communication scheme based on the soliton microcomb (SMC) is proposed. Using ultra-large bandwidth stabilized SMC with a frequency interval of 48.97 GHz as the laser source, 60 optical wavelengths modulated by 2.5 Gbit/s 16-Pulse position modulation (PPM) are transmitted in parallel. A corresponding outfield high-sensitivity 150 Gbit/s FSO communication experiment based on the SMC was carried out with 1 km space distance. Our experimental results show that the best sensitivity of the single comb wavelength which has higher OSNR can reach -52.62 dBm, and the difference is only 1.38 dB from the theoretical limit under the BER of 1 × 10-3 without forward error correction (FEC). In addition, at BER of 1 × 10-3, 16-PPM has a higher received sensitivity of 6.73dB and 3.72dB compared to on-off keying (OOK) and differential phase shift keying (DPSK) respectively. Meanwhile, taking the advantage of multi-channel SMC, 60 × 2.5 Gbit/s can achieve 150 Gbit/s large-capacity free-space transmission. For comparison, commercially available single-wavelength laser based FSO communication system have also been performed in the outfield. The outfield experimental results demonstrated the feasibility of high-sensitivity, large-capacity PPM FSO communication based on SMCs and provided a new perspective for the future development of large-capacity, long-haul FSO communication.

In this study, polyacrylic acid (PAA) films were deposited onto a quartz surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator using a spin-coating technique for ammonia sensing operated at room temperature, and the sensing mechanisms and performance were systematically studied. The oxygen-containing functional groups on the surfaces of the PAA film make it sensitive and selective to ammonia molecules, even when tested at room temperature. The ammonia molecules adsorbed by the oxygen-containing functional groups of PAA (e.g., hydroxyl and epoxy groups) increase the membrane's stiffness, which was identified as the primary mechanism leading to the positive frequency shifts. However, mass loading due to adsorption of ammonia molecules is not a major reason as it will result in a negative frequency shifts. When the PAA coated SAW sensor was exposed to ammonia with a low concentration of 500 ppb, it showed a positive frequency shift of 225 Hz, with both good repeatability and stability, as well as a good selectivity to ammonia compared with those to C2H5OH, H2, HCl, H2S, CO, NO2, NO, and CH3COCH3.

Iron-manganese silicate (IMS) was synthesized by chemical coprecipitation and used as a catalyst for ozonating acrylic acid (AA) in semicontinuous flow mode. The Fe-O-Mn bond, Fe-Si, and Mn-Si binary oxide were formed in IMS on the basis of the results of XRD, FTIR, and XPS analysis. The removal efficiency of AA was highest in the IMS catalytic ozonation processes (98.9% in 15 min) compared with ozonation alone (62.7%), iron silicate (IS) catalytic ozonation (95.6%), and manganese silicate catalytic ozonation (94.8%). Meanwhile, the removal efficiencies of total organic carbon (TOC) were also improved in the IMS catalytic ozonation processes. The IMS showed high stability and ozone utilization. Additionally, H2O2 was formed in the process of IMS catalytic ozonation. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis and radical scavenger experiments confirmed that hydroxyl radicals (•OH) were the dominant oxidants. Cl-, HCO3-, PO43-, Ca2+, and Mg2+ in aqueous solution could adversely affect AA degradation. In the IMS catalytic ozonation of AA, the surface hydroxyl groups and Lewis acid sites played an important role.

This paper presents an electrical actuation scheme of dielectric droplet by negative liquid dielectrophoresis. A general model of lumped parameter electromechanics for evaluating the electromechanical force acting on the droplets is established. The model reveals the influence of actuation voltage, device geometry, and dielectric parameter on the actuation force for both conductive and dielectric medium. Using this model, we compare the actuation forces for four liquid combinations in the parallel-plate geometry and predict the low voltage actuation of dielectric droplets by negative dielectrophoresis. Parallel experimental results demonstrate such electric actuation of dielectric droplets, including droplet transport, splitting, merging, and dispending. All these dielectric droplet manipulations are achieved at voltages < 100 Vrms . The frequency dependence of droplet actuation velocity in aqueous solution is discussed and the existence of surfactant molecules is believed to play an important role by realigning with the AC electric field. Finally, we present coplanar manipulation of oil and water droplets and formation of oil-in-water emulsion droplet by applying the same low voltage.

Electrically pumped semiconductor mode-locked lasers (SMLs) are promising in a wide range of applications due to compact size, high energy efficiency, and low cost. However, the long gain interaction length increases the spontaneous emission noise. In this Letter, an external cavity structure is adopted to improve the SML noise performance, as well as the flexibility to adjust the repetition rate. Two external cavity SMLs with repetition rates of 255 MHz and 10 GHz are demonstrated. For the 10 GHz SML, the signal-noise-ratio and radio frequency linewidth of the fundamental frequency reach 81.1 dB and 40 Hz, respectively. The high performance makes the laser a promising light source for microwave and communication applications.

RESUMO

Traditional frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) LIDAR ranging is based on heterodyne detection, calculating unknown distance by extracting the frequency of the interference signal, while the main error source is frequency modulation (FM) nonlinearity. In this paper, a ranging system based on a microresonator soliton comb is demonstrated to correct the nonlinearity by sampling the ranging signals at equal frequency intervals, producing a ranging error lower than 20 µm, while at the range of 2 m. Advantages of fast data acquisition, light computation requirements, and a simple optical path, without long optical fiber, give this method a high practical value in precision manufacturing.
