RESUMO

This meta-analysis aims to comprehensively assess the impact of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) on wound infection in patients with prostate cancer (PCa). A systematic search was conducted, from database inception to November 2023, in EMBASE, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing LRP with open radical prostatectomy (ORP) in the treatment of PCa. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data and conducted quality assessments based on pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Stata 17.0 software was employed for data analysis. Overall, 15 RCTs involving 1458 PCa patients were included. The analysis revealed the incidence of wound infection (odds ratio [OR] = 0.28, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.16-0.51, p < 0.001) and complications (OR = 0.27, 95% CI = 0.20-0.37, p < 0.001) was significantly lower in the LRP group compared to the ORP group. This study demonstrates that LRP in PCa patients can effectively reduce the incidence of wound infections and complications, indicating significant therapeutic efficacy and justifying its broader clinical application.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Poly r(C) binding protein (PCBP) 1 or heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) E1 is a RNA binding protein functional in multiple biological processes. In prostate cancer (PCa), PCBP1 loss was shown to be involved with increased stemness in PCacells; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. METHOD: The role of PCBP1 in prostate tumor formationwas determined by xenograft assays. Immunoprecipitationand mass spectrometry were performed to find the pathways altered after PCBP1 knockdown. Cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and soft agar colony formationassays and xenograft assays were used to determine the role of target protein pathogenesis regulation and formation of PCa. QRT-PCR was performedto quantify relative mRNA expression. RESULTS: The expression of mitogen activated protein kinase 1 (MAPK1) or extracellular signal regulated kinase 2 (ERK2) was increased following PCBP1 loss. Attenuation of MAPK1 inhibited in vitro and in vivo tumorigenicity and metastasis in PCa cell line, PC3. Overexpression of MAPK1 in the PC3 cells increased the tumorigenicity and metastasis. Analysis of PCBP1 and MAPK1 mRNA levels in 25 PCa patients compared to tumor-adjacent normal tissue confirmed an inverse correlation between PCBP1 and MAPK1 expression. CONCLUSIONS: PCBP1 can act as a suppressor of tumor in prostate epithelial cells by inhibiting MAPK1 expression.

AIMS: A meta-analysis was conducted of the prevalence rates of compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout to identify the factors influencing these rates. BACKGROUND: The extents of compassion fatigue and burnout adversely affect nursing efficiency. However, the reported prevalence rates vary considerably. METHODS: Data were acquired from electronic databases. Random effects meta-analyses were performed to obtain pooled estimates of the prevalence rates of compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout and their respective instrumental scores. Meta-regression analyses were performed to identify factors influencing these rates. RESULTS: Data from 21 studies were used for the meta-analysis. The prevalence rates of compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout were 47.55%, 52.55% and 51.98%, respectively. The possession of Bachelor's or Master's degrees by the nurses was significantly inversely associated with the percent prevalence of compassion fatigue (coefficient: -1.187) and burnout (coefficient: -0.810). The compassion fatigue score was also significantly inversely associated with nursing status as registered or licensed practical nurse (coefficient: -0.135). CONCLUSION: In nursing, the prevalence rates of compassion fatigue and burnout are high. Better education and training may have a moderating effect on compassion fatigue and burnout and could improve the quality of life of nurses.

INTRODUCTION: DNA methylation plays a vital role in prognosis prediction of cancers. In this study, we aimed to identify novel DNA methylation site biomarkers and create an efficient methylated site model for predicting survival in kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP). METHODS: DNA methylation and gene expression profile data were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differential methylated genes (DMGs) and differential expression genes (DEGs) were identified and then searched for the hub genes. Cox proportional hazards regression was applied to identify DNA methylated site biomarkers from the hub genes. Kaplan-Meier survival and ROC analyses were used to validate the effective prognostic ability of the methylation gene site biomarker. The biomarker sites were validated in the GEO cohorts. The GO and KEGG annotation was done to explore the biological function of DNA methylated site signature. RESULTS: Nine DMGs with opposite expression patterns containing 47 methylated sites were identified. Finally, four methylated sites were identified using the hazard regression model (cg04448376, cg24387542, cg08548498, and cg14621323) located in UTY, LGALS9B, SLPI, and PFN3, respectively. These sites classified patients into high- and low-risk groups in the training cohort. The 5-year survival rates for patients with low-risk and high-risk scores were 97.5% and 75.9% (P < 0.001). The prognostic accuracy and signature methylation sites were validated in the test (TCGA, n = 87) and GEO cohorts (n = 14). Multivariate regression analysis showed that the signature was an independent prediction prognostic factor for KIRP. Based on this analysis, we developed methylated site signature nomogram that predicts an individual's risk of survival. Functional analysis suggested that these signature genes are involved in the biological processes of protein binding. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that the methylated gene site signature might be a powerful prognostic tool for evaluating survival rate and guiding tailored therapy for KIRP patients.

BACKGROUND: Compassionate care is essential for better clinical and patient outcomes, but during healthcare provision it can be compromised by several factors. This study evaluates factors affecting compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout in nursing. METHODS: Literature search in electronic databases was followed by data extraction, conversion, and meta-analyses under random effect model. Correlation coefficients (r) reported by individual studies were first converted to z-scores for meta-analyses and the overall effect sizes were then back-transformed into r. RESULTS: Eleven studies (4054 respondents; 64.34 [95% confidence interval: 38.82, 89.86] % response rate; age 39.81 [31.36, 48.27] years; 87.11 [79.48, 94.73] % females) were used for meta-analysis. There was a strong positive correlation between compassion fatigue and burnout (r = 0.59), whereas compassion satisfaction had weak negative correlation with compassion fatigue (r = -0.226) but moderate with burnout (r = -0.446). Stress and negative affect were moderately positively associated with compassion fatigue (r = 0.405) but weakly correlated with burnout (r = 0.119). Positive affect and personal/social factors had weak inverse relationship with burnout (r = -0.197). Positive affect also had a moderately positive relationship with compassion satisfaction (r = 0.396). Demographic or professional factors were not significantly related to compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue, or burnout. CONCLUSION: In nursing, a variety of stressful factors and negative affect promote compassion fatigue and burnout whereas positive affect is helpful in achieving compassion satisfaction.
