BACKGROUND: Mongolian populations are widely distributed geographically, showing abundant ethnic diversity with geographic and tribal differences. AIM: To infer the genetic substructure, admixture and ancient genetic sources of Mongolians together with Kazakhs. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We genotyped more than 690,000 genome-wide SNPs from 33 Mongolian and Chinese Kazakh individuals and compared these with both ancient and present-day Eurasian populations using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), ADMIXTURE, Refine-IBD, f statistics, qpWave and qpAdm. RESULTS: We found genetic substructures within Mongolians corresponding to Ölöd, Chahar, and Inner Mongolian clusters, which was consistent with tribe classifications. Mongolian and Kazakh groups derived about 6-40% of West Eurasian related ancestry, most likely from Bronze Age Steppe populations. The East Asian related ancestry in Mongolian and Kazakh groups was well represented by the Neolithic DevilsCave related nomadic lineage, comprising 42-64% of studied groups. We also detected 10-51% of Han Chinese related ancestry in Mongolian and Kazakh groups, especially in Inner Mongolians. The average admixture times for Inner Mongolian, Mongolian_Chahar, Mongolian_Ölöd and Chinese Kazakh were about 1381, 626, 635 and 632 years ago, respectively, with Han and French as the sources. CONCLUSION: The DevilsCave related ancestry was once widespread westwards covering a wide geographical range from Far East Russia to the Mongolia Plateau. The formation of present-day Mongolic and Turkic-speaking populations has also received genetic influence from agricultural expansion.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to establish a prognostic model for clinical T1N0M1 (cT1N0M1) lung adenocarcinoma patients to evaluate the prognosis of patients in terms of overall survival (OS) rate and cancer-specific survival (CSS) rate. METHODS: Data of patients with metastatic lung adenocarcinoma from 2010 to 2016 were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was conducted to identify relevant prognostic factors and used to develop nomograms. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curve are used to evaluate the predictive ability of the nomograms. RESULTS: A total of 45610 patients were finally included in this study. The OS and CSS nomograms were constructed by same clinical indicators such as age (<60 years or ≥60 years), sex (female or male), race (white, black, or others), surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and the number of metastatic sites, based on the results of statistical Cox analysis. From the perspective of OS and CSS, surgery contributed the most to the prognosis. The ROC curve analysis showed that the survival nomograms could accurately predict OS and CSS. According to the points obtained from the nomograms, survival was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method, then cT1N0M1 patients were divided into three groups: low-risk group, intermediate-risk group, and high-risk group, and the OS ( P  < 0.001) and CSS ( P  < 0.001) were significantly different among the three groups. CONCLUSION: The nomograms and risk stratification model provide a convenient and reliable tool for individualized evaluation and clinical decision-making of patients with cT1N0M1 lung adenocarcinoma.

The linguistic, historical, and subsistent uniqueness of Hmong-Mien (HM) speakers offers a wonderful opportunity to investigate how these factors impact the genetic structure. The genetic differentiation among HM speakers and their population history are not well characterized. Here, we generate genome-wide data from 65 Yao ethnicity samples and analyze them with published data, particularly by leveraging haplotype-based methods. We determined that the fine-scale genetic substructure of HM speakers corresponds better with linguistic classification than with geography. Particularly, parallels between serial founder events and language differentiations can be observed in West Hmongic speakers. Multiple lines of evidence indicate that ~500-year-old GaoHuaHua individuals are most closely related to West Hmongic-speaking Bunu. The strong genetic bottleneck of some HM-speaking groups, especially Bunu, could potentially be associated with their long-term practice of swidden agriculture to some degree. The inferred admixture dates for most of the HM speakers overlap with the reign of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644 CE). Besides a common genetic origin for HM speakers, their genetic ancestry is shared primarily with neighboring Han Chinese and Tai-Kadai speakers in south China. In conclusion, our analyses reveal that recent isolation and admixture events have contributed to the genetic population history of present-day HM speakers.

Organic polymers based on the donor-acceptor structure are a promising class of efficient photocatalysts for solar fuel production. Among these polymers, poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-alt-1,2,3-benzothiadiazole) (PFBT) consisting of fluorene donor and benzothiadiazole acceptor units has shown good photocatalytic activity when it is prepared into polymer dots (Pdots) in water. In this work, we investigate the effect of the chemical environment on the activity of photocatalysis from PFBT Pdots for hydrogen production. This is carried out by comparing the samples with various concentrations of palladium under different pH conditions and with different sacrificial electron donors (SDs). Moreover, a model compound 1,2,3-benzothiadiazole di-9,9-dioctylfluorene (BTDF) is synthesized to investigate the mechanism for protonation of benzothiadiazole and its kinetics in the presence of an organic acid-salicylic acid by cyclic voltammetry. We experimentally show that benzothiadiazole in BTDF can rapidly react with protons with a fitted value of 0.1-5 × 1010 M-1 s-1 which should play a crucial role in the photocatalytic reaction with a polymer photocatalyst containing benzothiadiazole such as PFBT Pdots for hydrogen production in acidic conditions. This work gives insights into why organic polymers with benzothiadiazole work efficiently for photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Hole transport materials (HTMs) play a crucial role in achieving efficient perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this work, an HTM MF-ACD with an asymmetric structure is designed by introducing two different peripheral end groups. The asymmetric feature increases the molecular dipole of MF-ACD, and endows MF-ACD with good stability and film formation properties, higher hole mobility and conductivity. Consequently, the MF-ACD-based PSC shows a high efficiency of 23.1%, which is much higher than that of the symmetric counterpart. The results show that the asymmetric configuration might be a potential choice to develop more efficient HTMs.

Background: Chest dynamic digital radiography (DDR) is used as a supplementary tool for the routine pulmonary function test (PFT); however, its potential as a novel standard PFT method has yet to be explored. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the correlation between the change in the projected lung area (ΔPLA) and forced vital capacity (FVC) using chest DDR, and to establish a DDR-FVC estimation model and a predictive value model for the ΔPLA. Methods: In total, 139 participants who underwent chest DDR and the PFT in the same period at The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from April 2022 to February 2023 were prospectively included in the study. The patients' age, gender, height, and weight measurements were recorded. Additionally, the ΔPLA was measured, and the IWS workstation software was used for automated outlining and calculation. Subsequently, a correlation analysis and regression analysis models were employed to examine the relationship between the ΔPLA, FVC, and individual physiological characteristics. Additionally, an independent sample t-test was used to determine whether there were any significant differences between the normal and abnormal FVC groups. Results: The 139 participants were grouped according to the results of the ratio of measured/predicted FVC values (FVC%pred); those with an FVC%pred ≥80%, were allocated to the normal FVC group, and those with an FVC%pred <80% were allocated to the abnormal FVC group. The correlation coefficient was >0.8 in the full sample; the ΔPLA showed a significant linear correlation with the measured FVC value [r=0.81, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.75-0.86, P<0.001]. There was a significant difference in the ΔPLA between the normal and abnormal FVC groups. With the ΔPLA, age, gender, height, and weight as predictor variables, the following DDR-FVC estimation model was established: DDR-FVC estimation model = -0.997 + 1.35×10-4 × ΔPLA + 0.017 × height - 0.014 × age + 0.249 × gender (1 for male and 0 for female) [adjusted R2 (adj. R2)=0.731, F=94.615, P<0.001]. The following formula was used to determine the predictive value of the ΔPLA: Predictive value of ΔPLA = -12,504.287 + 173.185 × height + 62.971 × weight - 84.933 × age (adj. R2=0.393, F=20.453, P<0.001). Conclusions: There was a linear correlation between the ΔPLA measured by biphasic chest DDR and the FVC. A model for estimating the FVC was established based on the ΔPLA, which allows the FVC to be assessed by the ΔPLA measured by biphasic chest DDR. A predictive value model for the ΔPLA was also established to provide ΔPLA reference values for assessment and comparison.

Delicate interface modification is necessary for improving the photovoltaic performance of a perovskite solar cell (PSC). Herein, two asymmetric small molecules, termed BTD-DA and BTD-PA are designed and synthesized to govern the perovskite/Spiro-OMeTAD interface. The molecule BTD-PA featuring a donor-acceptor-acceptor (D-A-A') configuration shows a larger molecule dipole and a better effect on defect passivation and energy level regulation through the strong interaction between the pyridine group in BTD-PA and the surficial uncoordinated Pb2+. Consequently, the PSCs based on the BTD-PA treatment harvest a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 24.46% for a 0.09 cm2 active area and 22.46% for the 1 cm2 device. Moreover, the long-term stability of FAPbI3 PSCs is also significantly improved because of the enhanced hydrophobicity and the inhibited phase transition of the FAPbI3 film with BTD-PA treatment. Our research provides a new strategy for interfacial engineering to boost the PCE and stability of the FAPbI3 PSCs.
