RESUMO

G-quadruplexes (G4s) are non-canonical four-stranded structures and are emerging as novel genetic regulatory elements. However, a comprehensive genomic annotation of endogenous G4s (eG4s) and systematic characterization of their regulatory network are still lacking, posing major challenges for eG4 research. Here, we present EndoQuad (https://EndoQuad.chenzxlab.cn/) to address these pressing issues by integrating high-throughput experimental data. First, based on high-quality genome-wide eG4s mapping datasets (human: 1181; mouse: 24; chicken: 2) generated by G4 ChIP-seq/CUT&Tag, we generate a reference set of genome-wide eG4s. Our multi-omics analyses show that most eG4s are identified in one or a few cell types. The eG4s with higher occurrences across samples are more structurally stable, evolutionarily conserved, enriched in promoter regions, mark highly expressed genes and associate with complex regulatory programs, demonstrating higher confidence level for further experiments. Finally, we integrate millions of functional genomic variants and prioritize eG4s with regulatory functions in disease and cancer contexts. These efforts have culminated in the comprehensive and interactive database of experimentally validated DNA eG4s. As such, EndoQuad enables users to easily access, download and repurpose these data for their own research. EndoQuad will become a one-stop resource for eG4 research and lay the foundation for future functional studies.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the association between healthy lifestyle behaviours and the incidence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). DESIGN: Population-based prospective cohort study. SETTING: The UK Biobank. PARTICIPANTS: 64 268 adults aged 37 to 73 years who had no IBS diagnosis at baseline were enrolled between 2006 and 2010 and followed up to 2022. MAIN EXPOSURE: The five healthy lifestyle behaviours studied were never smoking, optimal sleep, high level of vigorous physical activity, high dietary quality and moderate alcohol intake. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: The incidence of IBS. RESULTS: During a mean follow-up of 12.6 years, 961 (1.5%) incident IBS cases were recorded. Among the 64 268 participants (mean age 55.9 years, 35 342 (55.0%) female, 7604 (11.8%) reported none of the five healthy lifestyle behaviours, 20 662 (32.1%) reported 1 behaviour, 21 901 (34.1%) reported 2 behaviours and 14 101 (21.9%) reported 3 to 5 behaviours at baseline. The multivariable adjusted hazard ratios associated with having 1, 2 and 3 to 5 behaviours for IBS incidence were 0.79 (95% confidence intervals 0.65 to 0.96), 0.64 (0.53 to 0.78) and 0.58 (0.46 to 0.72), respectively (P for trend <0.001). Never smoking (0.86, 0.76 to 0.98, P=0.02), high level of vigorous physical activity (0.83, 0.73 to 0.95, P=0.006) and optimal sleep (0.73, 0.60 to 0.88, P=0.001) demonstrated significant independent inverse associations with IBS incidence. No significant interactions were observed between these associations and age, sex, employment status, geographic location, gastrointestinal infection, endometriosis, family history of IBS or lifestyle behaviours. CONCLUSIONS: Adhering to a higher number of healthy lifestyle behaviours is significantly associated with a lower incidence of IBS in the general population. Our findings suggest the potential of lifestyle modifications as a primary prevention strategy for IBS.

Developing lightweight composite with reversible switching between microwave (MW) absorption and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is promising yet remains highly challenging due to the completely inconsistent attenuation mechanism for electromagnetic (EM) radiation. Here, a lightweight vanadium dioxide/expanded polymer microsphere composites foam (VO2/EPM) is designed and fabricated with porous structures and 3D VO2 interconnection, which possesses reversible switching function between MW absorption and EMI shielding under thermal stimulation. The VO2/EPM exhibits MW absorption with a broad effective absorption bandwidth of 3.25 GHz at room temperature (25 °C), while provides EMI shielding of 23.1 dB at moderately high temperature (100 °C). This reversible switching performance relies on the porous structure and tunability of electrical conductivity, complex permittivity, and impedance matching, which are substantially induced by the convertible crystal structure and electronic structure of VO2. Finite element simulation is employed to qualitatively investigate the change in interaction between EM waves and VO2/EPM before and after the phase transition. Moreover, the application of VO2/EPM is demonstrated with a reversible switching function in controlling wireless transmission on/off, showcasing its excellent cycling stability. This kind of smart material with a reversible switching function shows great potential in next-generation electronic devices.

RATIONALE: Nav 1.1, 1.2, and 1.6 are transmembrane proteins acting as voltage-gated sodium channels implicated in various forms of epilepsy. There is a need for knowing their actual concentration in target tissues during drug development. METHODS: Unique peptides for Nav 1.1, Nav 1.2, and Nav 1.6 were selected as quantotropic peptides for each protein and used for their quantification in membranes from stably transfected HEK293 cells and rodent and human brain samples using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. RESULTS: Nav 1.1, 1.2, and 1.6 protein expressions in three stably individually transfected HEK293 cell lines were found to be 2.1 ± 0.2, 6.4 ± 1.2, and 4.0 ± 0.6 fmol/µg membrane protein, respectively. In brains, Nav 1.2 showed the highest expression, with approximately three times higher (P < 0.003) in rodents than in humans at 3.05 ± 0.57, with 3.35 ± 0.56 in mouse and rat brains and 1.09 ± 0.27 fmol/µg in human brain. Both Nav 1.1 and 1.6 expressions were much lower in the brains, with approximately 40% less expression in human Nav 1.1 than rodent Nav 1.1 at 0.49 ± 0.1 (mouse), 0.43 ± 0.3 (rat), and 0.28 ± 0.04 (humans); whereas Nav 1.6 had approximately 60% less expression in humans than rodents at 0.27 ± 0.09 (mouse), 0.26 ± 0.06 (rat), and 0.11 ± 0.02 (humans) fmol/µg membrane proteins. CONCLUSIONS: Multiple reaction monitoring was used to quantify sodium channels Nav 1.1, 1.2, and 1.6 expressed in stably transfected HEK293 cells and brain tissues from mice, rats, and humans. We found significant differences in the expression of these channels in mouse, rat, and human brains. Nav expression ranking among the three species was Nav 1.2 ≫ Nav 1.1 > Nav 1.6, with the human brain expressing much lower concentrations overall compared to rodent brain.

Bacterial strain Y-6T, isolated from a landfill site in Yiwu, PR China, was characterized using a polyphasic taxonomy approach. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, motile by means of a single polar flagellum and formed pale beige colonies. Strain Y-6T grew at 4-40 °C (optimal at 30-37 °C), pH 6.5-9.5 (optimal at pH 7.2-8.5) and in the presence of 0.5-10.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimal at 1.0-3.0 %). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that strain Y-6T was a member of the genus Aliidiomarina and closely related to Aliidiomarina taiwanensis MCCC 1A06493T with a 16S rRNA sequence similarity of 98.2 %. The major cellular fatty acids of the isolate were iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 and summed feature 9 (iso-C17 : 1 ω9c and/or 10-methyl-C16 : 0). Q-8 was the predominant ubiquinone. The major polar lipids comprised diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, aminoglycophospholipid, aminophospholipid, phospholipid, three glycolipids and two unknown lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content was 46.6 mol%. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization value between Y-6T and A. taiwanensis MCCC 1A06493T was 18.3 %. Strain Y-6T had an average nucleotide identity value of 74.09 % with A. taiwanensis MCCC 1A06493T. Results from the polyphasic taxonomy study support the conclusion that strain Y-6T represents a novel Aliidiomarina species, for which the name Aliidiomarina quisquiliarum sp.nov. is proposed. The type strain is Y-6T (=MCCC 1K06228T=KCTC 82676T).

BACKGROUND: Depression and diabetes are major health challenges, with heavy economic social burden, and comorbid depression in diabetes could lead to a wide range of poor health outcomes. Although many descriptive studies have highlighted the prevalence of comorbid depression and its associated factors, the situation in Hunan, China, remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the prevalence of comorbid depression and associated factors among hospitalized type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients in Hunan, China. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 496 patients with T2DM who were referred to the endocrinology inpatient department of Xiangya Hospital affiliated to Central South University, Hunan. Participants' data on socio-demographic status, lifestyle factors, T2DM-related characteristics, and social support were collected. Depression was evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-depression subscale. All statistical analyses were conducted using the R software version 4.2.1. RESULTS: The prevalence of comorbid depression among hospitalized T2DM patients in Hunan was 27.22% (95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 23.3-31.1%). Individuals with depression differed significantly from those without depression in age, educational level, per capita monthly household income, current work status, current smoking status, current drinking status, regular physical activity, duration of diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, stroke, fatty liver, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, insulin use, HbA1c, and social support. A multivariable logistic regression model showed that insulin users (adjusted OR = 1.86, 95% CI: 1.02-3.42) had a higher risk of depression, while those with regular physical activity (adjusted OR = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.30-0.77) or greater social support (adjusted OR = 0.20, 95% CI: 0.11-0.34) had a lower risk of depression. The area under the curve of the receiver operator characteristic based on this model was 0.741 with a sensitivity of 0.785 and specificity of 0.615. CONCLUSIONS: Depression was moderately prevalent among hospitalized T2DM patients in Hunan, China. Insulin treatment strategies, regular physical activity, and social support were significantly independently associated with depression, and the multivariable model based on these three factors demonstrated good predictivity, which could be applied in clinical practice.

Marine cyanobacteria are known to produce structurally diverse bioactive specialized metabolites during bloom occurrence. These ecologically active allelochemicals confer chemical defense for the microalgae from competing microbes and herbivores. From a collection of a marine cyanobacterium, cf. Lyngbya sp., a small quantity of a new cyclopropane-containing molecule, benderadiene (2), and lyngbyoic acid (1) were purified and characterized using spectroscopic methods. Using live reporter quorum-sensing (QS) inhibitory assays, based on P. aeruginosa PAO1 lasB-gfp and rhlA-gfp strains, both compounds were found to inhibit QS-regulated gene expression in a dose-dependent manner. In addition to lyngbyoic acid being more active in the PAO1 lasB-gfp biosensor strain (IC50 of 20.4 µM), it displayed anti-biofilm activity when incubated with wild-type P. aeruginosa. The discovery of lyngbyoic acid in relatively high amounts provided insights into its ecological significance as a defensive allelochemical in targeting competing microbes through interference with their QS systems and starting material to produce other related analogs. Similar strategies could be adopted by other marine cyanobacterial strains where the high production of other lipid acids has been reported. Preliminary evidence is provided from the virtual molecular docking of these cyanobacterial free acids at the ligand-binding site of the P. aeruginosa LasR transcriptional protein.

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety and its associated factors among inpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in China. This study was a cross-sectional study. Inpatients with T2DM admitted to the Endocrinology Department of Xiangya Hospital, Central South University in Hunan Province of China from March 2021 to December 2021 were consecutively included in this study. Participants were interviewed to obtain the data on socio-demographic characteristics, lifestyle characteristics, T2DM-related information, and social support. Anxiety was measured using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-anxiety subscale by experienced physicians. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the independent contribution of each independent variable to anxiety. A total of 496 inpatients with T2DM were included in this study. The prevalence of anxiety was 21.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 18.1%-25.4%). The results of multivariable logistic regression analysis indicated that age of at least 60 (adjusted odd ratio [aOR] = 1.79, 95% CI: 1.04-3.08), and having diabetes specific complications (aOR = 4.78, 95% CI: 1.02-22.44) were risk factors for anxiety, and an educational level of high school or above (aOR = 0.55, 95% CI: 0.31-0.99), regular physical activity (aOR = 0.36, 95% CI: 0.22-0.58), and high social support (aOR = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.17-0.53) were protective factors for anxiety. A predictive model based on these five variables showed good performance (area under the curve = 0.80). Almost one in five inpatients with T2DM suffered from anxiety in China. Age, educational level, regular physical activity, diabetes specific complications, and social support were independently associated with anxiety.

The spaceborne dispersive spectrometer is widely used in environmental, resource, and ocean observations. The coded spectrometer has higher energy advantages than the dispersion spectrometer, so it has great application prospects. In the current study, we developed an off-axis short-wave infrared coded optical system (SICOS) based on curved prism dispersion, and we further explored the design and optimization of the SICOS structure. Finite element analyses of a space-based short-wave infrared coded spectrometer based on curved prism dispersion (SSICS-CPD), including static simulation, modal analysis, sinusoidal vibration mechanical analysis, and random vibration mechanical analysis, were carried out. Simulation results showed that the SICOS support structure had excellent mechanical and thermal stability. As off-axis optical systems cannot meet the requirements of optical position accuracy through centering processing, a point source microscope and three-coordinate measuring machines were employed to complete the high-precision and rapid assembly of the SSICS-CPD. In addition, verification tests of surface shape error, stress relief, random vibration, and optical design parameters were carried out to validate the high stability and imaging performance of the SSICS-CPD. Results showed that the average modulation transfer function in the full field was 0.43 at 16.67 lp/mm, the spectral smile was <0.2 pixels, and the spectral keystone was <0.1 pixels. The design, analysis, assembly, and verification of the SSICS-CPD provide a useful reference for the development of other spaceborne prism dispersion spectrometers.

BACKGROUND: Lilium is an important ornamental bulb, possesses medicinal properties, and is also edible. Species within the Lilium genus share very similar morphology and macroscopic characteristics, thus they cannot be easily and clearly distinguished from one another. To date, no efficient species-specific markers have been developed for classifying wild lily species, which poses an issue with further characterizing its medicinal properties. RESULTS: To develop a simple and reliable identification system for Lilium, 45 representative species from 6 sections were used to develop a DNA barcoding system, which was based on DNA sequence polymorphisms. In this study, we assessed five commonly used DNA barcode candidates (ITS, rbcL, ycf1b, matK and psbA-trnH) and five novel barcode candidates obtained from highly variable chloroplast genomic regions (trnL-trnF, trnS-trnG, trnF-ndhJ, trnP-psaJ-rpI33 and psbB-psbH). We showed that a set of three novel DNA barcodes (ITS + trnP-psaJ-rpI33 + psbB-psbH) could be efficiently used as a genetic marker to distinguish between lily species, as assessed by methods including DNAsp, BI and ML tree, and Pair Wise Group (PWG). CONCLUSIONS: A rapid and reliable DNA barcoding method was developed for all 45 wild Lilium species by using ITS, trnP-psaJ-rpI33, and psbB-psbH as DNA barcoding markers. The method can be used in the classification of wild Lilium species, especially endangered species, and also provides an effective method for selective lily breeding.

A Gram-staining-negative, non-motile, strictly aerobic bacterium, designated as strain TT11T, was isolated from a sediment sample of a tidal flat connected in Zhoushan, China. Cells of strain TT11T are spherical, halotolerant, catalase- and oxidase-positive, and produce carotenoid-like pigments. Colonies were 0.5-1.0 mm diameter, smooth, round, convex and orange-yellow after growth on marine agar at 30 °C for 24 h. Growth of the strain TT11T was observed at 10-40 °C (optimum, 35 °C), at pH 6.0-9.5 (optimum, pH 6.5), and in the presence of 0-8.0% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0.5-1.0%). The results of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain TT11T represents a member of the genus Aestuariibaculum and was closely related to Aestuariibaculum suncheonense SC17T (97.2%) and Aestuariibaculum marinum IP7T (96.8%). The G + C content of the genome was 34.6%. The only respiratory quinone was MK-6. The major fatty acids (> 10%) were iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1 G and iso-C17:0 3-OH. The major polar lipids contained phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphoglycolipid, four unidentified aminolipids, four unidentified lipids and two unidentified glycolipids. On the basis of these genomic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic characteristics, we propose a novel species Aestuariibaculum sediminum sp. nov. with the type strain TT11T (= KCTC 82195T = MCCC 1K04734T).

Vitamin C (VC) is an essential nutrient for many animals. However, whether insects, including Bombyx mori, can synthesize VC remains unclear. In this article, the optimized HPLC method was used to determine the content of l-ascorbic acid (AsA) in silkworm eggs, larvae and pupae, and the activity of l-gulono-1,4-lactone oxidase (GULO), a key enzyme in VC synthesis. The RNA interference method was used to determine the effect of the BmGulo-like gene on embryonic development and GULO activity in the pupal fat body. The AsA content increased significantly during E144 h-E168 h in the late embryonic stage and P48 h-P144 h in the middle-late pupal stage, in which exogenous VC was not ingested. Furthermore, the body AsA content in larvae fed VC-free feed also increased with larval stage. The GULO enzymatic activity was present in eggs and the fat bodies of larvae and pupae, even when the larvae were reared with fresh mulberry leaves. Moreover, the activity was higher in the later embryonic stages (E144 h-E168 h) and the early pupal stage (before P24 h). The GULO activity in the pupal fat body dramatically decreased when the screened BmGulo-like gene (BGIBMGA005735) was knocked down with small interfering RNA; in addition, the survival rate and hatching rate of eggs significantly decreased 21% and 44%, respectively, and embryonic development was delayed. Thus, Bombyx mori can synthesize AsA through the l-gulose pathway, albeit with low activity, and this synthesis ability varies with developmental stages.

KEY MESSAGE: A number of potential genes and pathways involved in tepal trichome development were identified in a natural lily mutant by transcriptome analysis and were confirmed with trichome and trichomeless species. Trichome is a specialized structure found on the surface of the plant with an important function in survival against abiotic and biotic stress. It is also an important economic trait in crop breeding. Extensive research has investigated the foliar trichome in model plants (Arabidopsis and tomato). However, the developmental mechanism of tepal trichome remains elusive. Lilium pumilum is an edible ornamental bulb and a good breeding parent possessing cold and salt-alkali resistance. Here, we found a natural mutant of Lilium pumilum grown on a highland whose tepals are covered by trichomes. Our data indicate that trichomes of the mutant are multicellular and branchless. Notably, stomata are also developed on the tepal of the mutant as well, suggesting there may be a correlation between trichome and stomata regulation. Furthermore, we isolated 27 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) by comparing the transcriptome profiling between the natural mutant and the wild type. These 27 genes belong to 4 groups: epidermal cell cycle and division, trichome morphogenesis, stress response, and transcription factors. Quantitative real-time PCR in Lilium pumilum (natural mutant and the wild type) and other lily species (Lilium leichtlinii var. maximowiczii/trichome; Lilium davidii var. willmottiae/, trichomeless) confirmed the validation of RNA-seq data and identified several trichome-related genes.

RESUMO

In view of the functional requirements of high reliability and stability support of optical components of space remote sensors, a rigid-flexible, dual-mode coupling support structure for space-based rectangular curved prisms (SRCPs) was designed. In-depth studies of the support principle and engineering realization of the SRCPs and optimization of the flexible adhesive structure were performed. Static and dynamic simulations were conducted on the mirror subassembly by means of finite element analysis, and test verification was also performed. The tests revealed that the surface shape error of the mirror subassembly after mechanical testing was 0.021λ, the displacement of the mirror body was 0.008 mm, the inclination angle was ∼0.8'', the mass of the mirror subassembly was 4.79 kg, the fundamental frequency was 283 Hz, and the maximum amplification of the total rms acceleration was 4.37. All indexes were superior to those of the design requirements. On this basis, bonding tests and mechanical tests of a rectangular curved prism reflector, a rectangular curved prism, and a rectangular plane reflector employing this proposed support structure were continued. The test results verified the reliability, stability, and universal applicability of the proposed rigid-flexible, dual-mode peripheral bonding support structure.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of sepsis risk calculator (SRC) in guiding antibiotic use in neonates with suspected early-onset sepsis (EOS). METHODS: A total of 284 neonates with a gestational age of ≥ 35 weeks were enrolled as the control group, who were hospitalized in the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from March to July, 2019 and were suspected of EOS. Their clinical data were retrospectively collected and the use of antibiotics was analyzed based on SRC. A total of 170 neonates with a gestational age of ≥ 35 weeks were enrolled as the study group, who were admitted to the hospital from July to November, 2020 and were suspected of EOS. SRC was used prospectively for risk scoring to assist the decision making of clinical antibiotic management. The two groups were compared in terms of the rate of use of antibiotics, blood culture test rate, clinical outcome, and adherence to the use of SRC. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the study group had a significantly higher SRC score at birth and on admission (P < 0.05). The rate of use of antibiotics in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group[84.7% (144/170) vs 91.5% (260/284), 6.8% decrease; P < 0.05]. The blood culture test rate in the study group was also significantly lower than that in the control group (85.3% vs 91.9%, P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence rate of adverse outcomes and the final diagnosis of EOS (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The use of SRC reduces the rate of empirical use of antibiotics in neonates with suspected EOS and does not increase the risk of adverse outcomes, and therefore, it holds promise for clinical application.

AIM: To determine nursing home staff experiences in mentorship programmes, and staff perceptions of the enablers and barriers to implement mentorship programmes. BACKGROUND: Mentorship programmes are perceived as playing an important role in improving the quality of care in nursing homes. However, little is known about research evidence across the global about staff's experiences in the programmes. METHODS: A search for studies published from the earliest available date to April 2019 was undertaken. Two reviewers performed data extraction and an appraisal of eight studies using tools from the Joanna Briggs Institute. A pragmatic meta-aggregative approach was applied to synthesise the findings. The qualitative research that was included was analysed to identify 63 findings that were organised into 12 categories and combined into three syntheses. RESULTS: The implementation of effective mentorship programmes is influenced by three factors: mentor capability, opportunity in the mentorship programmes, and motivation in the mentorship programmes. CONCLUSIONS: There are a number of studies of nursing home staff experiences of mentorship programmes. However, systematic reviews that synthesise findings in this field are lacking. It is crucial to tailor the programme design to suit each unique nursing home care setting. We identified barriers and enablers, and learned that no barriers are insurmountable. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: Findings will inform nurse managers of an ideal environment for the implementation of a successful mentorship programme. Nursing homes need to establish and sustain mentorship programmes to help improve workforce capacity in delivering high-quality care for residents.

Several amino acid chiral ionic liquids were introduced as functional monomers to prepare molecularly imprinted polymers for specific recognition of L-phenylalanine. Among them, the imprinted polymers L-Phe@MIPs based on [ViImC3][L-Pro] showed the best selective recognition ability for L-phenylalanine. A series of experiments such as dynamic adsorption, static adsorption, and competitive adsorption were conducted to investigate the specific recognition ability and adsorption capacity of the L-Phe@MIPs. It is found that the adsorption efficiency to L-phenylalanine on L-Phe@MIPs was 3.11 times higher than that to D-phenylalanine. All the results demonstrated that the L-Phe@MIPs possessed good recognition and relatively high adsorption efficiency for L-phenylalanine. Besides, the recovery of L-phenylalanine was above 98%, and the L-Phe@MIPs exhibited good reusability.

RESUMO

Precision medicine and personalized medicine are based on the development of biomarkers, and liquid biopsy has been reported to be able to detect biomarkers that carry information on tumor development and progression. Compared with traditional 'solid biopsy', which cannot always be performed to determine tumor dynamics, liquid biopsy has notable advantages in that it is a noninvasive modality that can provide diagnostic and prognostic information prior to treatment, during treatment and during progression. In this review, we describe the source, characteristics, technology for detection and current situation of circulating tumor cells, circulating free DNA and exosomes used for diagnosis, recurrence monitoring, prognosis assessment and medication planning.

This study presents the low cost fabrication of flexible white-light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs) with nano-honeycomb-structured phosphor films. Extending the dimensions of the nano-honeycomb structures improved the color uniformity of the flexible samples, and the 950-nm pattern sample demonstrated optimal color uniformity because this nano-pattern exhibited an excellent diffusion ability owing to its pitch size. In addition to color uniformity, the use of this nano-pattern improved the luminous efficiency. The 750-nm pattern exhibited the highest luminous efficiency (235.8 lm/W), which was approximately 7% higher than that exhibited by a non-patterned phosphor film sample. Thus, flexible w-LEDs with nano-honeycomb structure optimization have great potential to be used as next-generation lighting sources.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the prevalence and years lived with disability (YLD) from dental caries among children and adolescents and the time trends over the past two decades in Sichuan province, the largest province in west China. METHODS: Based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2015 (GBD2015), which systematically assessed the epidemiological characteristics of major diseases and their transitions by country and region from 1990 to 2015, we extracted the estimated results for China. We then used the Bayesian meta-regression method to estimate the sex- and age-specific prevalences and YLDs from dental caries among children and adolescents under 15 years old in Sichuan province and compared them with global and national indicators for the same period. RESULTS: In 2015, there were almost 6 million cases of dental caries in children and adolescents (aged < 15 years) in Sichuan province, accounting for 6% of the total cases in China. For children under 5 years, the prevalence of deciduous caries was 55.9%, and the YLDs value was 10.8 per 100,000, while it was 24.3% and 5.1 per 100,000 respectively among 5- to 14-year-olds; for those aged 5 to 14 years, the prevalence of permanent caries was 21.5%, and the YLDs value was 11.5 per 100,000. From 1990 to 2015, the prevalence of dental caries for children under 5 years increased substantially, by 16.2%, and the YLDs increased by 8.7%. Among those aged 5 to 14 years, the prevalence increased and the YLDs decreased. CONCLUSION: Dental caries remains a huge health burden in Western China. In contrast to the global and national data, the trend has increased rapidly over the past 25 years in this region. This work provides suggestions for the prevention and control for oral health in China with the policy of two-child.
