RESUMO

The apical hook protects cotyledons and the shoot apical meristem from mechanical injuries during seedling emergence from the soil. HOOKLESS1 (HLS1) is a central regulator of apical hook development, as a terminal signal onto which several pathways converge. However, how plants regulate the rapid opening of the apical hook in response to light by modulating HLS1 function remains unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that the small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) E3 ligase SAP AND MIZ1 DOMAIN-CONTAINING LIGASE1 (SIZ1) interacts with HLS1 and mediates its SUMOylation in Arabidopsis thaliana. Mutating SUMO attachment sites of HLS1 results in impaired function of HLS1, indicating that HLS1 SUMOylation is essential for its function. SUMOylated HLS1 was more likely to assemble into oligomers, which are the active form of HLS1. During the dark-to-light transition, light induces rapid apical hook opening, concomitantly with a drop in SIZ1 transcript levels, resulting in lower HLS1 SUMOylation. Furthermore, ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL5 (HY5) directly binds to the SIZ1 promoter and suppresses its transcription. HY5-initiated rapid apical hook opening partially depended on HY5 inhibition of SIZ1 expression. Taken together, our study identifies a function for SIZ1 in apical hook development, providing a dynamic regulatory mechanism linking the post-translational modification of HLS1 during apical hook formation and light-induced apical hook opening.

BRI1-EMS-SUPPRESSOR1 (BES1), a core transcription factor in the brassinosteroid (BR) signaling pathway, primarily regulates plant growth and development by influencing BR-regulated gene expression. Several E3 ubiquitin (Ub) ligases regulate BES1 stability, but little is known about BES1 deubiquitination, which antagonizes E3 ligase-mediated ubiquitination to maintain BES1 homeostasis. Here, we report that two Arabidopsis thaliana deubiquitinating enzymes, Ub-SPECIFIC PROTEASE (UBP) 12 and UBP13, interact with BES1. UBP12 and UBP13 removed Ub from polyubiquitinated BES1 to stabilize both phosphorylated and dephosphorylated forms of BES1. A double mutant, ubp12-2w ubp13-3, lacking UBP12 and UBP13 function showed both BR-deficient and BR-insensitive phenotypes, whereas transgenic plants overexpressing UBP12 or UBP13 exhibited an increased BR response. Expression of UBP12 and UPB13 was induced during recovery after carbon starvation, which led to BES1 accumulation and quick recovery of stressed plants. Our work thus establishes a mechanism by which UBP12 and UBP13 regulate BES1 protein abundance to enhance BR-regulated growth during recovery after carbon starvation.

To address the challenges of handling imprecise building boundary information and reducing false-positive outcomes during the process of detecting building changes in remote sensing images, this paper proposes a Siamese transformer architecture based on a difference module. This method introduces a layered transformer to provide global context modeling capability and multiscale features to better process building boundary information, and a difference module is used to better obtain the difference features of a building before and after a change. The difference features before and after the change are then fused, and the fused difference features are used to generate a change map, which reduces the false-positive problem to a certain extent. Experiments were conducted on two publicly available building change detection datasets, LEVIR-CD and WHU-CD. The F1 scores for LEVIR-CD and WHU-CD reached 89.58% and 84.51%, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that when utilized for building change detection in remote sensing images, the proposed method exhibits improved robustness and detection performance. Additionally, this method serves as a valuable technical reference for the identification of building damage in remote sensing images.

Brassinosteroids (BRs), a group of plant steroid hormones, participate in the regulation of plant growth and developmental processes. BR functions through the BES1/BZR1 family of transcription factors, however, the regulation of the BES1 activity by post-translational modifications remains largely unknown. Here, we present evidence that the SUMO E3 ligase SIZ1 negatively regulates BR signaling pathway. T-DNA insertion mutant siz1-2 shows BL (Brassinolide, the most active BR) hypersensitivity and BRZ (Brassinazole, a BR biosynthesis inhibitor) insensitivity during hypocotyl elongation. In addition, expression of BES1-dependent BR-response genes is hyper-regulated in siz1-2 seedlings. The siz1-2bes1-D double mutant exhibits longer hypocotyl than bes1-D. Moreover, SIZ1 physically interacts with BES1 in vivo and in vitro and mediates the sumoylation of BES1. A K302R substitution in BES1 blocks its sumoylation mediated by SIZ1 in plants, indicating that K302 is the principal site for SUMO conjugation. Consistently, we find that sumoylation inhibits BES1 protein stability and activity. Taken together, our data show that the sumoylation of BES1 via SIZ1 negatively regulates the BR signaling pathway.

Sarsasapogenin-AA13 (AA13) is a novel synthetic derivative of sarsasapogenin extracted from the Chinese herb Rhizoma Anemarrhenae. In this study we investigated the effects of AA13 on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced production of inflammatory factors in macrophage cells and the anti-inflammatory activity of AA13 in an inflammatory model of dimethylbenzene-induced ear edema. Macrophage cells (RAW264.7 cells and mouse peritoneal macrophages) were exposed to LPS (1 µg/mL); pretreatment with AA13 (5-20 µmol/L) dose-dependently inhibited LPS-induced production of NO, TNF-α and PGE2, and LPS-stimulated expression levels of COX-2 and iNOS. Furthermore, pretreatment with AA13 dose-dependently suppressed LPS-stimulated phosphorylation of p38 and JNK, but had no effect on ERK in RAW264.7 cells. Moreover, pretreatment with AA13 inhibited LPS-induced activation of the nuclear factor (NF)-κB in RAW264.7 cells. The in vivo anti-inflammatory activity of AA13 was demonstrated in a mouse inflammatory model: pre-treatment with either AA13 (20 mg·kg-1·d-1, ig) or a positive control antifani (10 mg·kg-1·d-1, ig) for 3 d significantly relieved dimethylbenzene-induced ear edema. Our results demonstrate that AA13 effectively inhibit LPS-induced inflammatory responses in macrophage cells in vitro and relieve dimethylbenzene-induced ear edema in vivo.

Introduction: Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method that achieves therapeutic effects through the interaction of neurotransmitters and neural regulation. It is generally carried out manually, making the related process expert-biased. Meanwhile, the neural stimulation effect of acupuncture is difficult to track objectively. In recent years, virtual reality (VR) in medicine has been on the fast lane to widespread use, especially in therapeutic stimulation. However, the use of related technologies in acupuncture has not been reported. Methods: In this work, a novel acupuncture stimulation technique using VR is proposed. To track the stimulation effect, the electroencephalogram (EEG) is used as the marker to validate brain activities under acupuncture. Results and discussion: After statistically analyzing the data of 24 subjects during acupuncture at the "Zusanli (ST36)" acupoint, it has been determined that Virtual Acupuncture (VA) has at least a 63.54% probability of inducing similar EEG activities as in Manual Acupuncture (MA). This work may provide a new solution for researchers and clinical practitioners using Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) in acupuncture.

OBJECTIVES: To study the regularity of central response to thermal needle stimulation of "Zusanli" (ST36) at different temperature, and to analyze the temperature difference of central responses. METHODS: Six male C57BL/6j adult mice were used in the present study. For observing activities of neurons in the hindlimb region of left primary somatosensory cortex (S1HL, A/P=0.46 mm, M/L=1.32 mm, D/V=-0.14 mm) by using a fast high-resolution miniature two-photon microscopy (FHIRM-TPM), the mice were anesthetized with 3% isoflurane (inhalation), with its head fixed in a stereotaxic apparatus, then, adeno-associated virus (AAV-hSyn-GCaMP6f-WPRE-hGHpA, for showing intracellular calcium transients in neurons transfected) was injected into the left S1HL region using a micro-syringe after scalp surgical operation. The mice's right ST36 were stimulated using internal thermal needles with the temperature being 43 ℃, or 45 ℃, or 47 ℃, separately. Image J software and MATLAB 2020b software were used to process the image data of neuronal calcium activity (Ca2+ signaling) in the left S1HL region, including the instant maximum calcium peak value (ΔF/F) in 2 s, instant calcium spike frequency in 2 s, short-term calcium peak value (ΔF/F) in 3.5 min, short-term calcium spike frequency in 3.5 min, calcium peak duration in 3.5 min, maximum calcium peak value (ΔF/F) at the 1st , 2nd and 3rd min, and calcium spike frequency at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd min after thermal needle stimulation. RESULTS: In comparison with the normal temperature needle stimulation, the instant intracellular maximum calcium peak value, instant calcium spike frequency, short-term maximum calcium peak value, short-term calcium spike frequency, and calcium peak duration of S1HL neurons in response to 43 ℃, 45 ℃ and 47 ℃ internal thermal needle stimulation of ST36 were significantly increased (P<0.001, P<0.01). Comparison among the 43 ℃, 45 ℃ and 47 ℃ thermal needle stimulation showed that the 45 ℃ thermal needle stimulation was obviously superior to 43 ℃ and 47 ℃ thermal needle stimulation in increasing instant calcium spike frequency, short-term calcium spike frequency and calcium peak duration of S1HL neurons (P<0.001, P<0.01). The 47 ℃ thermal needle stimulation was stronger than 43 ℃ and 45 ℃ thermal needle stimulation in increasing the instant maximum calcium peak value (P<0.001). The maximum calcium peak value was apparently higher (P<0.001) at the 2nd min than that at the 1st and 3rd min after 43 ℃, 45 ℃ and 47 ℃ thermal needle stimulation. No significant differences were found in the short-term maximum calcium peak value among the 3 thermal needle stimulation and in the calcium spike frequency among the 3 time points after 43 ℃, 45 ℃ and 47 ℃ thermal needle stimulation. CONCLUSIONS: S1HL neurons respond to all 43 ℃, 45 ℃ and 47 ℃ thermal needle stimulation of ST36 in mice, while more actively to 45 ℃ thermal needle stimulation.

Aqueous Zn-iodine (Zn-I2) conversion batteries with iodine redox chemistry suffers the severe polyiodide shuttling and sluggish redox kinetics, which impede the battery lifespan and rate capability. Herein, an ultrastable Zn-I2 battery is introduced based on single-atom Fe-N-C encapsulated high-surface-area carbon (HC@FeNC) as the core-shell cathode materials, which accelerate the I-/I3 -/I° conversion significantly. The robust chemical-physical interaction between polyiodides and Fe-N4 sites tightly binds the polyiodide ions and suppresses the polyiodide shuttling, thereby significantly enhancing the coulombic efficiency. As a result, the core-shell HC@FeNC cathode endows the electrolytic Zn-I2 battery with an excellent capacity, remarkable rate capability, and an ultralong lifespan over 60 000 cycles. More importantly, a practical 253 Wh kg-1 pouch cell shows good capacity retention of 84% after 100 cycles, underscoring its considerable potential for commercial Zn-I2 batteries.

The opening of the embryonic leaves (cotyledons) as seedlings emerge from the dark soil into the light is crucial to ensure the survival of the plant. Seedlings that sprout in the dark elongate rapidly to reach light but keep their cotyledons closed. During de-etiolation, the transition from dark to light growth, elongation slows and the cotyledons open. Here, we report that the transcription factor ACTIVATING FACTOR1 (ATAF1) participates in de-etiolation and facilitates light-induced cotyledon opening. The transition from dark to light rapidly induced ATAF1 expression and ATAF1 accumulation in cotyledons. Seedlings lacking or overexpressing ATAF1 exhibited reduced or enhanced cotyledon opening, respectively, and transcriptomic analysis indicated that ATAF1 repressed the expression of genes associated with growth and cotyledon closure. The activation of the photoreceptor phytochrome A (phyA) by far-red light induced its association with the ATAF1 promoter and stimulation of ATAF1 expression. The transcription factor ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL5 (HY5), which is also activated in response far-red light, cooperated with phyA to induce ATAF1 expression. ATAF1 and HY5 interacted with one another and cooperatively repressed the expression of growth-promoting and cotyledon closure genes. Together, our study reveals a mechanism through which far-red light promotes cotyledon opening.

Large-scale tests often contain mixed-format items, such as when multiple-choice (MC) items and constructed-response (CR) items are both contained in the same test. Although previous research has analyzed both types of items simultaneously, this may not always provide the best estimate of ability. In this paper, a two-step sequential Bayesian (SB) analytic method under the concept of empirical Bayes is explored for mixed item response models. This method integrates ability estimates from different item formats. Unlike the empirical Bayes method, the SB method estimates examinees' posterior ability parameters with individual-level sample-dependent prior distributions estimated from the MC items. Simulations were used to evaluate the accuracy of recovery of ability and item parameters over four factors: the type of the ability distribution, sample size, test length (number of items for each item type), and person/item parameter estimation method. The SB method was compared with a traditional concurrent Bayesian (CB) calibration method, EAPsum, that uses scaled scores for summed scores to estimate parameters from the MC and CR items simultaneously in one estimation step. From the simulation results, the SB method showed more accurate and reliable ability estimation than the CB method, especially when the sample size was small (150 and 500). Both methods presented similar recovery results for MC item parameters, but the CB method yielded a bit better recovery of the CR item parameters. The empirical example suggested that posterior ability estimated by the proposed SB method had higher reliability than the CB method.

Objective: This research intends to investigate the clinical efficacy of radiofrequency ablation and electrocautery in treating grade I or II vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN). Methods: This is a single-center retrospective study, which collected the clinical data of 100 patients with VaIN diagnosed by colposcopy and pathological biopsy in the Gynecology and Cervical Center of Xiangzhu Branch of the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region between January 2020 and June 2021. Patients were divided into the study group (radiofrequency ablation treatment) and the control group (electrocautery) according to differences in treatment approaches. 6- and 12-month follow-ups were performed on all patients. Gynecological examination results, liquid-based thin-layer cytology (TCT), negative conversion of human papillomavirus (HPV), curative effects, and prognosis were recorded. Results: All patients completed regular follow-ups that lasted for 6 and 12 months. The 6- and 12-month cure rates of the study group were 76.0% and 92.0%, respectively, and the data in the control group were 70.0% and 82.0%, respectively. In terms of the 6- and 12-month negative conversion rates of HPV, the data in the study group were 68.0% and 78.0%, versus 60% and 68% in the control group, respectively. The lesion duration rate showed no statistical significance between the study group (8.0%) and the control group (P > 0.05). The analysis of postoperative follow-up complications revealed that the study group had a statistically lower overall incidence of vaginal bleeding, excessive vaginal discharge, vaginal burning sensation, and decreased vaginal elasticity than the control group (8.0% vs. 24.0% P < 0.05). Conclusion: Both radiofrequency ablation and electrocautery have obvious clinical effects in patients with grade I or II VaIN, but the former contributed to fewer operative complications and a good prognosis, which deserves clinical promotion.

The phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA) plays essential roles in modulating drought stress responses. Mitochondrial alternative oxidase (AOX) is critical for reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging in drought stress responses. However, whether ABA signal in concert with AOX to moderate drought stress response remains largely unclear. In our study, we uncover the positive role of AOX in ABA-mediated drought tolerance in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). Here, we report that ABA participates in the regulation of alternative respiration, and the increased AOX was found to improve drought tolerance by reducing total ROS accumulation. We also found that transcription factor ABA response element-binding factor 1 (SlAREB1) can directly bind to the promoter of AOX1a to activate its transcription. Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) of SlAREB1 compromised the ABA-induced alternative respiratory pathway, disrupted redox homeostasis and decreased plant resistance to drought stress, while overexpression of AOX1a in TRV2-SlAREB1 plants partially rescued the severe drought phenotype. Taken together, our results indicated that AOX1a plays an essential role in ABA-mediated drought tolerance partially in a SlAREB1-dependent manner, providing new insights into how ABA modulates ROS levels to cope with drought stress by AOX.

Fluid-driven soft robots offer many advantages over robots driven by other means in terms of universal preparation processes and high-power density ratios, but are largely limited by their inherit characteristics of rigid pressure sources, fluid control elements and complex fluid pipelines. In this paper, inspired by the principle of biofluid control and actuation, we combine simulation analysis and experimental validation to conduct a bionic design study of an efficient flexible fluid control valve with different actuation diaphragm structures. Under critical flexural load, the flexible valve undergoes a continuous flexural instability overturning process, generating a wide range of displacements. The sensitivity of the flexible valve can be improved by adjusting the diaphragm geometry parameters. The results show that the diaphragm wall thickness is positively correlated with the overturning critical pressure, and the radius of curvature is negatively correlated with the overturning critical pressure. When the wall thickness of the flexible valve maintains the same value, as the radius of curvature increases, the critical buckling load and recovery load of diaphragm overturning is a quadratic function of opposite opening, and the pressure difference converges to the minimum value at the radius of curvature R = 7.

Plant hormone brassinosteroids (BRs) play key roles in plant adaptation to biotic stresses, including various pathogen infections. As a core factor in BR signaling, the transcription factor BRI1-EMS-SUPPRESSOR 1 (BES1) activates BR responses via regulating the expression of target genes. However, the molecular mechanism of BRs in regulating plant immunity is unclear, and the key components are not identified. In this study, we found that BR biosynthesis and signaling transduction are essential for plant resistance to pathogen infection, and BR biosynthesis or BR signaling-deficient mutants displayed susceptibility to Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 (Pst DC3000) infection [including more serious symptoms and more photosystem II (PSII) photochemistry damage]. We identified a callose synthase gene GLUCAN SYNTHASE-LIKE 8 (GSL8) as a direct target of BES1, and its expression was induced by BRs/BES1. Meanwhile, BRs induced callose accumulation after Pst DC3000 infection. Moreover, BES1 gain-of-function mutant bes1-D showed promoted Pst DC3000 resistance. GSL8 T-DNA insertion mutant gsl8-1 was susceptible to DC3000, while brassinolide (BL) treatment partially rescued gsl8-1 susceptible phenotypes. Our study suggests that BR-induced pathogen resistance partly depends on the BR-induced BES1-GSL8 cascade to mediate callose accumulation.

The withdrawal reflex is a defensive reaction to nociceptive stimuli and can be used to regulate locomotor gait during rehabilitation. We investigated the effect of successive needle-pricking of the plantar and dorsal foot surfaces on poststroke lower limb function. Thirty-five hemiplegic patients, within one month after primary stroke, with an affected lower limb (Brunnstrom stage III) were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. Both groups received routine drug treatment, rehabilitation training, and upper limb acupuncture treatment on the hemiplegic side. The control group also received routine acupuncture on the hemiplegic side of the lower limb, while the intervention group received successive needle-pricking on the sole and instep of both the unaffected and affected side feet. Outcomes were assessed before inception (D0) and after three (D3) and six (D6) treatment days, using Brunnstrom stage (Ueda assessment), total Fugl-Meyer lower extremity assessment (FMA-LE) and its subscores (FMA-LE-ss), active lower limb range of motion (AROM-LL), Modified Ashworth Scale Score (MAS-LL), and manual muscle testing (MMT-LL). The Brunnstrom stage was better in the intervention group than in the control group at both D3 and D6 (P < 0.01). The total FMA-LE score and sections B, C, D, and G FMA-LE-ss were significantly better in the intervention group than in the control group at D3 and D6 (P < 0.05). The AROM-LL hip and knee flexion and hip extension improved more in the intervention group than in the control group (P < 0.05). In the intervention group, MAS-LL hip flexion significantly improved at D6 (P < 0.01). Improvement in lower limb joints on the MMT-LL in the intervention group exceeded that in the control group at D6 (P < 0.01). Successive needle-pricking on the plantar and dorsal foot aspects of Brunnstrom stage III in poststroke patients contributed to rapid lower limb motor function improvement via the withdrawal reflex. We have explored the potential of auricular intradermal acupuncture (AIA) in standard rehabilitation and acupuncture treatment for motor recovery in poststroke patients. This was a randomized, controlled preliminary clinical study in which the patients were randomly assigned to the CT group (conventional treatment, standard rehabilitation, and routine acupuncture) or AIA group (AIA combined with conventional treatment) and underwent 6 sessions in 1 week (6 days). Standard procedures and previously reported acupuncture points were used. Clinical outcomes were measured by the Fugl-Meyer motor assessment (FMA) of flexor and extensor synergy movement (FSM and ESM) of the upper and lower extremities (UE and LE) at days 0, 3, and 6. The assessment was performed by blinded assessors. The AIA group showed a significant increase in FMA-UE/FMA-LE scores on day 3 (P=0.012 and 0.001, respectively) and day 6 (P=0.041 and P < 0.001, respectively), but this was not observed in the CT group. Furthermore, unlike the CT group, the AIA group exhibited a significant increase in the FMA-LE score on day 3 (P=0.004) and the FMA-UE scores on day 6 (P=0.048). Finally, the correlation between ESM and FMA-UE/FMA-LE was higher than that between FSM and FMA-UE/FMA-LE after treatment: for ESM and UE, r = 0.759, P=0.007; for ESM and LE, r = 0.697, P=0.003; for FSM and UE, r = 0.604, P=0.049; for FSM and LE, r = 0.347, P=0.188. AIA is useful for motor rehabilitation in poststroke patients, particularly in terms of improving extensor synergy. This trial is registered with CHiCTR1800020150.

Moxibustion has been widely accepted as an alternative therapy for major depressive disease (MDD). However, the efficacy of moxibustion treatment on MDD is highly variable because of its irregular operation. This study was designed to investigate how therapeutic duration and extent influence the anti-depression effect of moxibustion and the underlying mechanism involved. Rats with lipopolysaccharide-induced depression-like behavior were treated by moxibustion treatment. The anti-depression effect was determined by forced swimming test and open field test. Tryptophan (Trp) transport and its metabolism to serotonin (5-HT) and kynurenine (Kyn) were evaluated to explore the anti-depression mechanism. The results showed that moxibustion treatment could alleviate the depression-like behavior in rats. Trp transport and 5-HT generation were significantly increased, and the Trp-Kyn pathway was moderately inhibited by moxibustion. Prolonged therapy could be beneficial to the anti-depression effect by promoting the brain uptake of Trp and shifting the Trp metabolism to 5-HT. An enhanced therapeutic extent could increase 5-HT generation. In conclusion, this study determined that the anti-depression effect of moxibustion involves improved Trp transport and metabolism. The therapeutic duration benefits antidepressant effects, but the complex influence of the therapeutic extent on moxibustion efficacy requires further studies.

Ultraviolet (UV)-durable superhydrophobic nanocomposite thin films have been successfully fabricated on aluminum substrates by embedding cobalt stearate (CoSA)-coated TiO2 nanoparticles in a hydrophobic polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) matrix (PMHS/TiO2@CoSA) using the sol-gel process. When compared to the sharp decrease of water contact angle (WCA) on the superhydrophobic PMHS/TiO2 thin films, the PMHS/TiO2@CoSA superhydrophobic thin films exhibited a nearly constant WCA of 160° under continuous UV irradiation for more than 1 month. The designed scheme of the TiO2@CoSA core-shell structure not only increased the hydrophobic properties of the TiO2 nanoparticle surface but also confined the photocatalytic efficiency of TiO2 nanoparticles. A plausible model has been suggested to explain the UV-durable mechanism of the superhydrophobic nanocomposite thin films based on PMHS/TiO2@CoSA. Furthermore, the elongated lifetime in the exposure of the solar light imparts this superhydrophobic nanocomposite thin film with potential practical applications where UV-resistant properties are emphasized including corrosion-resistant building walls, anti-icing airplanes, self-cleaning vehicles, and so forth.

Photoinduced oxygen vacancies (OVs) are widely investigated as a vital point defect in wide-band-gap semiconductors. Still, the formation mechanism of OVs remains unclear in various materials. To elucidate the formation mechanism of photoinduced OVs in bismuth oxychloride (BiOCl), we synthesized two surface hydroxyl discrete samples in light of the discovery of the significant variance of hydroxyl groups before and after UV light exposure. It is noted that OVs can be obtained easily after UV light irradiation in the sample with surface hydroxyl groups, while variable changes were observed in samples without surface hydroxyls. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the binding energy of Bi-O is drastically influenced by surficial hydroxyl groups, which is intensely correlated to the formation of photoinduced OVs. Moreover, DFT calculations reveal that the adsorbed water molecules are energetically favored to dissociate into separate hydroxyl groups at the OV sites via proton transfer to a neighboring bridging oxygen atom, forming two bridging hydroxyl groups per initial oxygen vacancy. This result is consistent with the experimental observation that the disappearance of photoinduced OVs and the recovery of hydroxyl groups on the surface of BiOCl after exposed to a H2O(g)-rich atmosphere, and finally enables the regeneration of BiOCl photocatalyst. Here, we introduce new insights that the evolution of photoinduced OVs is dependent on surface hydroxyl groups, which will lead to the regeneration of active sites in semiconductors. This work is useful for controllable designs of defective semiconductors for applications in photocatalysis and photovoltaics.
