BACKGROUND: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) have significant tumor regulatory functions, and CAFs-derived exosomes (CAFs-Exo) released from CAFs play an important role in the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). However, a lack of comprehensive molecular biological analysis leaves the regulatory mechanisms of CAFs-Exo in OSCC unclear. METHODS: We used platelet derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) to induce the transformation of human oral mucosa fibroblast (hOMF) into CAFs, and extracted exosomes from the supernatant of CAFs and hOMF. We validated the effect of CAFs-Exo on tumor progression by exosomes co-culture with Cal-27 and tumor-forming in nude mice. The cellular and exosomal transcriptomes were sequenced, and immune regulatory genes were screened and validated using mRNA-miRNA interaction network analysis in combination with publicly available databases. RESULTS: The results showed that CAFs-Exo had a stronger ability to promote OSCC proliferation and was associated with immunosuppression. We discovered that the presence of immune-related genes in CAFs-Exo may regulate the expression of PIGR, CD81, UACA, and PTTG1IP in Cal-27 by analyzing CAFs-Exo sequencing data and publicly available TCGA data. This may account for the ability of CAFs-Exo to exert immunomodulation and promote OSCC proliferation. CONCLUSIONS: CAFs-Exo was found to be involved in tumor immune regulation through hsa-miR-139-5p, ACTR2 and EIF6, while PIGR, CD81, UACA and PTTG1IP may be potentially effective targets for the treatment of OSCC in the future.

Immune checkpoint (IC) therapy has led to a breakthrough in cancer treatment. However, the interaction of ICs is controversial in glioma. We detected features of ICs using transcriptome data and a multicolor immunofluorescence assay. We discovered that B7-H3 increased with grade and age and predicted worse overall survival (OS) at the transcriptional and proteomic levels. VISTA and PD-L1 were associated with OS and grade at the RNA level. At the protein level, VISTA was primarily expressed in tumor cells and TAMs. B7-H3 and VISTA were positively correlated with PD-L1. There was a strong correlation between PD-L1 and CD3 and between VISTA and IBA-1. PD-L1 was coexpressed with T cells. VISTA was coexpressed with TAMs. In T cells, we found a strong correlation in ICs, which worsened in TAMs and tumor cells. In conclusion, B7-H3 is a vital prognostic target for immunotherapy. We provided a potential mechanism for the immunosuppressive microenvironment in glioma.

Intracranial tumors seriously affect the physical and mental health of humans. Due to variations in the nature and the growth site of tumors, individualized and specific treatment of patients with intracranial tumor has become a hotspot topic of research, and targeted drug therapy of intracranial tumors, an important subspecialty of precision medicine, has become a key issue that scientists are working hard to tackle. At present, the rapid development in molecular biology and genomics has provided corresponding targets for precision therapies of tumors. However, the blood-brain barrier and blood-tumor barrier prevent drugs from reaching intracranial targets. Therefore, finding effective ways to elevate the concentration of intracranial drugs has become the key issue concerning existing targeted therapies for intracranial tumors. Herein, we reviewed the current status of targeted drug therapy for different intracranial tumors and discussed their efficacy, intending to provide new perspectives for the treatment of intracranial tumors with targeted drugs in the future.

Transnasal endoscopic skull base surgery has been increasing in volume in recent years and its indications are constantly expanding. The potential occurrence of intraoperative and postoperative neurovascular complications deserves special attention from neurosurgeons. Multimodal intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring technology allows neurosurgeons to monitor cerebral perfusion and the functional status of the associated cranial nerves in real time, thereby enabling surgeons to make prompt adjustments in surgical procedures and strategies and reduce the risks of postoperative neurological complications in patients. Based on available literature, we reviewed how appropriate monitoring strategies were optimized for different key components of transnasal endoscopic skull base procedures, intending to provide reference for clinicians.

A core-shell QDs@mSiO2@y-AuNCs nanoprobe was prepared, and a new ratiometric fluorescent sensor for thiram detection was developed. The mechanism of thiram sensing was investigated using FTIR, surface-enhanced Raman, XPS spectra, etc. The sensing of thiram was mainly ascribed to the formation of Au-S bonds between thiram and Au atoms on y-AuNCs surface, resulting in the dissociation of 11-MUA ligand from the y-AuNCs surface and the charge transfer between thiram and y-AuNCs. In the ratiometric fluorescence detection of thiram based on QDs@mSiO2@y-AuNCs, a linear range of 0.5-60 ng/mL was obtained with a LOD of 0.19 ng/mL. Compared with the fluorescence detection based on y-AuNCs, the ratiometric fluorescence detection of thiram demonstrated 3-fold enhanced sensitivity. The improvement was ascribed to two aspects: the fluorescence emission of y-AuNCs was enhanced after they were loaded onto the QDs@mSiO2 nanoparticles; the ratiometric detection mode provided more precise sensing. The detection of thiram can be completed immediately after mixing the nanoprobe with thiram. Good recoveries of thiram in apple and pear samples were achieved. All the above results demonstrated the high potential of this method in practical applications.

To summarize and evaluate the efficacy and safety of Shenmai Injection in the treatment of viral myocarditis, shock, pulmonary heart disease, coronary heart disease, neutropenia and tumor chemotherapy, so as to provide supportive evidences for clinical rational use of Shenmai Injection. By searching literatures about studies on the systematic reviews on Shenmai Injection in treatment of viral myocarditis, shock, pulmonary heart disease, coronary heart disease, neutropenia and tumor chemotherapy from the main Chinese and English databases. Primary efficacy and safety outcome measures were selected for comparative analysis and summary, and the appraisal tool of AMSTAR 2 was used to evaluate the included studies.A total of 36 systematic reviews(published from 2005 to 2020) were included, involving viral myocarditis, shock, pulmonary heart disease, malignant tumor and coronary heart disease. The number of cases included in each type of the above diseases was 3 840, 2 484, 12 702, 28 036 and 27 082, respectively. The comparison results showed that, Shenmai Injection combined with conventional/western medicine treatment groups had better efficacy than conventional/western medicine groups alone in the prevention and treatment of the above five diseases. The main adverse reactions of Shenmai Injection reported in the included studies were facial flushing, rash, palpitation, etc., but the incidence was low and the general symptoms were mild, so no special treatment was needed. Therefore, the application of Shenmai Injection on the basis of conventional treatment or western medicine treatment had better prevention and treatment efficacy of the diseases. It was suggested that more multi-center and larger sample-size randomized controlled trials should be carried out in the future, and the relevant reporting standards should be strictly followed in systematic reviews, so as to improve the scientificity and transparency of the study.

A series of novel quinolone derivatives (8a-j) were synthesized, and their anticancer activities were tested in human cancer cell lines, human lung carcinoma cell (A549), human promyelocytic leukemia cell (HL-60), and human cervical cancer cell (Hela). Compound 8i was found to be 5-times more potent in cell-killing activity for cell lines A549, HL-60, and Hela than the positive control irinotecan or cisplatin, with IC50 of 0.009, 0.008 and 0.010 µM, respectively. The docking study revealed that compound 8i might have strong interactions with the active site of DNA-topoisomerase I.

Two new daphnane diterpenes named tianchaterpenes A and B were isolated from the roots of Stelleropsis tianschanica. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of chemical and spectral analysis, including 1D, 2D NMR analyses and HRESIMS. Compounds 1 and 2 were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against HeLa and HCT-8 cell lines. The results showed that all compounds displayed weak cytotoxicities to the HeLa cells and were inactive to the HCT-8 cells.

With advances in viral surveillance and next-generation sequencing, highly diverse novel astroviruses (AstVs) and different animal hosts had been discovered in recent years. However, the existence of AstVs in marmots had yet to be shown. Here, we identified two highly divergent strains of AstVs (tentatively named Qinghai Himalayanmarmot AstVs, HHMAstV1 and HHMAstV2), by viral metagenomic analysis in liver tissues isolated from wild Marmota himalayana in China. Overall, 12 of 99 (12.1â%) M. himalayana faecal samples were positive for the presence of genetically diverse AstVs, while only HHMAstV1 and HHMAstV2 were identified in 300 liver samples. The complete genomic sequences of HHMAstV1 and HHMAstV2 were 6681 and 6610 nt in length, respectively, with the typical genomic organization of AstVs. Analysis of the complete ORF 2 sequence showed that these novel AstVs are most closely related to the rabbit AstV, mamastrovirus 23 (with 31.0 and 48.0â% shared amino acid identity, respectively). Phylogenetic analysis of the amino acid sequences of ORF1a, ORF1b and ORF2 indicated that HHMAstV1 and HHMAstV2 form two distinct clusters among the mamastroviruses, and may share a common ancestor with the rabbit-specific mamastrovirus 23. These results suggest that HHMAstV1 and HHMAstV2 are two novel species of the genus Mamastrovirus in the Astroviridae. The remarkable diversity of these novel AstVs will contribute to a greater understanding of the evolution and ecology of AstVs, although additional studies will be needed to understand the clinical significance of these novel AstVs in marmots, as well as in humans.

To provide molecular evidence for medical material identification, we analyzed the nucleotide sequence of ITS2, psbA-trnH gene in Morus genus plants and commercial products which were obtained from different places in Xinjiang. The sequence of ITS2 and psbA-trnH in fifty-one samples were amplified and sequenced, MEGA 6.0 was used to analyze the intra- and interspecific K-2P distances, neighbor-joining (NJ) tree was used to constructing clustering tree. ITS2 sequence analyzed results showed that there is no intra-specific variation among Morus alba, M. alba var. tatarica and M. nigra, but 13 variations sites were exist between M. alba and M. nigra and their inter-specific K-2P distances was 0.04, which indicated that there had significant variation in them. We didn't find informative variation sites between Morus genus plants and commercial products, and we also found that M. nigra can be distinguished from other two species by NJ Tree. PsbA-trnH analysis results showed there was only one variation site between M. alba and M. nigra, but insertion or deletion variation were remarkable evidence among M. alba, M. alba var. tatarica and M. Nigra. Inter-specific variation was accordance with intra-specific variation of commercial products. So ITS2 and psbA-trnH gene were important marker for M. alba, M. alba var. tatarica and M. nigra identification. This study provided important evidence for Uygur medicine identification and market supervision.

BACKGROUND: Craniopharyngiomas are the most common benign histological tumours to involve the hypothalamo-pituitary region in childhood. Cystic craniopharyngiomas account for more than 90% of the tumours. The optimal treatment of cystic craniopharyngioma remains controversial. Radical resection is the treatment of choice in patients with favourable tumour localisation. When the tumour localisation is unfavourable, a gross-total or partial resection followed by radiotherapy is the main treatment option in adults. However, it presents a risk of morbidity, especially for children. Intracystic bleomycin has been utilised potentially to delay the use of radiotherapy or radical resection, to decrease morbidity. This review is the second update of a previously published Cochrane review. OBJECTIVES: To assess the benefits and harmful effects of intracystic bleomycin in children from birth to 18 years with cystic craniopharyngioma when compared to placebo (no treatment), surgical treatment (with or without adjuvant radiotherapy) or other intracystic treatments. SEARCH METHODS: We searched the electronic databases CENTRAL (2016, Issue 1), MEDLINE/PubMed (from 1966 to February 2016) and EMBASE/Ovid (from 1980 to February 2016) with pre-specified terms. In addition, we searched the reference lists of relevant articles and reviews, conference proceedings (International Society for Paediatric Oncology 2005-2015) and ongoing trial databases (Register of the National Institute of Health and International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN) register) in February 2016. SELECTION CRITERIA: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs), quasi-randomised trials or controlled clinical trials (CCTs) comparing intracystic bleomycin and other treatments for cystic craniopharyngiomas in children (from birth to 18 years). DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Two review authors independently performed the study selection, data extraction and 'Risk of bias' assessment. We used risk ratio (RR) for binary data and mean difference (MD) for continuous data. If one of the treatment groups experienced no events and there was only one study available for the outcome, we used the Fischer's exact test. We performed analysis according to the guidelines in the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic reviews of Interventions. MAIN RESULTS: We could not identify any studies in which the only difference between the treatment groups was the use of intracystic bleomycin. We did identify a RCT comparing intracystic bleomycin with intracystic phosphorus(32) ((32)P) (seven children). In this update we identified no additional studies. The included study had a high risk of bias. Survival could not be evaluated. There was no clear evidence of a difference between the treatment groups in cyst reduction (MD -0.15, 95% confidence interval (CI) -0.69 to 0.39, P value = 0.59, very low quality of evidence), neurological status (Fisher's exact P value = 0.429, very low quality of evidence), third nerve paralysis (Fischer's exact P value = 1.00, very low quality of evidence), fever (RR 2.92, 95% CI 0.73 to 11.70, P value = 0.13, very low quality of evidence) or total adverse effects (RR 1.75, 95% CI 0.68 to 4.53, P value = 0.25, very low quality of evidence). There was a significant difference in favour of the (32)P group for the occurrence of headache and vomiting (Fischer's exact P value = 0.029, very low quality of evidence for both outcomes). AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: Since we identified no RCTs, quasi-randomised trials or CCTs of the treatment of cystic craniopharyngiomas in children in which only the use of intracystic bleomycin differed between the treatment groups, no definitive conclusions could be made about the effects of intracystic bleomycin in these patients. Only one low-power RCT comparing intracystic bleomycin with intracystic (32)P treatment was available, but no definitive conclusions can be made about the effectiveness of these agents in children with cystic craniopharyngiomas. Based on the currently available evidence, we are not able to give recommendations for the use of intracystic bleomycin in the treatment of cystic craniopharyngiomas in children. High-quality RCTs are needed.

The essential oil of clove has a wide range of pharmacological and biological activities and is widely used in the medicine, fragrance and flavoring industries. In this work, 22 components of the essential oil obtained from clove buds were identified. Eugenol was the major component (76.23%). The essential oil exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 0.625 mg/mL, and the antibacterial effects depended on its concentration and action time. Kill-time assays also confirmed the essential oil had a significant effect on the growth rate of surviving S. aureus. We hypothesized that the essential oil may interact with the cell wall and membrane first. On the one hand it destroys cell wall and membranes, next causing the losses of vital intracellular materials, which finally result in the bacterial death. Besides, essential oil penetrates to the cytoplasmic membrane or enters inside the cell after destruction of cell structure, and then inhibits the normal synthesis of DNA and proteins that are required for bacterial growth. These results suggested that the effects of the clove essential oil on the growth inhibition of S. aureus may be at the molecular level rather than only physical damage.

Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) O157:H7 infection in humans can cause acute haemorrhagic colitis and severe haemolytic uraemic syndrome. The role of enterohaemolysin (Ehx) in the pathogenesis of O157:H7-mediated disease in humans remains undefined. Recent studies have revealed the importance of the inflammatory response in O157:H7 pathogenesis in humans. We previously reported that Ehx markedly induced interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) production in human macrophages. Here, we investigated the disparity in Ehx-induced IL-1ß production between human and mouse macrophages and explored the underlying mechanism regarding the activation of NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasomes. In contrast to the effects on human differentiated THP-1 cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cells, Ehx exerted no effect on IL-1ß production in mouse macrophages and splenocytes because of a disparity in pro-IL-1ß cleavage into mature IL-1ß upon caspase-1 activation. Additionally, Ehx significantly contributed to O157:H7-induced ATP release from THP-1 cells, which was not detected in mouse macrophages. Confocal microscopy demonstrated that Ehx was a key inducer of cathepsin B release in THP-1 cells but not in mouse IC-21 cells upon O157:H7 challenge. Inhibitor experiments indicated that O157:H7-induced IL-1ß production was largely dependent upon caspase-1 activation and partially dependent upon ATP signalling and cathepsin B release, which were both involved in NLRP3 activation. Moreover, inhibition of K(+) efflux drastically diminished O157:H7-induced IL-1ß production and cytotoxicity. The findings in this study may shed light on whether and how the Ehx contributes to the development of haemolytic uraemic syndrome in human O157:H7 infection.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a worldwide public health and medical problem. Oxidative stress is recognized as an important contributing factor in the pathogenesis of TBI. The present study was designed to explore the anti-oxidative effect of Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) on brain damage induced by traumatic injury in a mouse model. Moderate weight-drop impact head injury was induced in adult male mice. The mice were randomly divided into four groups: Nrf2(+/+) sham-operation, Nrf2(-/-) sham-operation, Nrf2(+/+) TBI, and Nrf2(-/-) TBI group. Neurological scores were evaluated 24 h after TBI, followed by collection of the brain specimens. Brain edema was detected by the wet-dry ratio method. The expression of NOX2 protein in the brain specimen was investigated using Western Blot analysis and immunohistochemical staining. In addition, malondialdehyde (MDA) level and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were evaluated in the brain tissues. Twenty-four hours after TBI, our results showed Nrf2(+/+) TBI mice have more severe neurological deficits and brain edema than Nrf2(+/+) sham group. On the other hand, the Nrf2(-/-) TBI mice were found to have significantly increased neurological deficits and brain edema, compared to Nrf2(+/+) TBI mice (P < 0.05). At the same time, we found that the expression of NOX2 protein, MDA level were significantly increased in Nrf2(-/-) mice, while SOD activity was considerably decreased after TBI compared to Nrf2(+/+) mice (P < 0.05). We demonstrated that deletion of Nrf2 exacerbates brain injury after TBI in mice, suggesting that Nrf2 may play an important role in protecting brain injury after TBI, possibly by modulating oxidative stress.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have examined seizures in pediatric brain arteriovenous malformation. In our study, risk factors associated with seizure occurrence and long-term seizure control outcomes after different treatments in pediatric arteriovenous malformation patients were investigated. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted with clinical data from a cohort of 89 pediatric brain arteriovenous malformation patients acquired between 2008 and 2013. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to assess risk factors associated with seizure incidence. Patients who presented with seizure before treatment were evaluated using the Engel classification during the follow-up period. RESULTS: A higher risk of seizure occurrence was observed in large size and unruptured brain arteriovenous malformations using multivariate logistic regression analysis (p < 0.05). A total of 22 children, who presented with seizure before the interventions, were included in subsequent analysis. During a mean follow-up period of 2.3 years after the intervention, 12 (55 %) of these children were classified as Engel class I after treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Seizures were the most common symptom in unruptured bAVMs. Size of the brain arteriovenous malformation is highly significant to seizure occurrence. Patients with cerebral hemorrhage are prone to having an acute seizure occurrence. The different therapies examined all improved seizure control to varying degrees.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a worldwide health problem, identified as a major cause of death and disability. Increasing evidence has shown that oxidative stress plays an important role in TBI pathogenesis. The antioxidant transcription factor, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), is a known mediator in protection against TBI-induced brain damage. The objective of this study was to test whether tert-butylhydroquinone (tBHQ), a novel Nrf2 activator, can protect against TBI-induced oxidative stress. METHODS: Adult male imprinting control region mice were randomly divided into three groups: (1) sham + vehicle group; (2) TBI + vehicle group; and (3) TBI + tBHQ group. Closed-head brain injury was applied using the Feeney weight-drop method. We accessed the neurologic outcome of mice at 24 h after TBI, and subsequently measured protein levels of Nrf2 and the NOX2 subunit of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase (NADPH oxidase), the concentration of malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase activity, and brain edema. RESULT: The NOX2 protein level was increased fivefold in the TBI + vehicle group, whereas pretreatment with tBHQ markedly attenuated the NOX2 protein expression relative to that in the TBI + vehicle group. TBI increased Nrf2 formation by 5% compared with the sham group, whereas treatment with tBHQ further upregulated the Nrf2 protein level by 12% compared with the sham group. The level of the oxidative damage marker malondialdehyde was reduced by 29% in the TBI + tBHQ group compared with the TBI + vehicle group, Moreover, pretreatment with tBHQ significantly increased the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase activity. Administration of tBHQ also significantly decreased TBI-induced brain edema and neurologic deficits. CONCLUSIONS: Pretreatment with tBHQ effectively attenuated markers of cerebral oxidative stress after TBI, thus supporting the testing of tBHQ as a potential neuroprotectant and adjunct therapy for TBI patients.

BACKGROUND: A wealth of evidence has suggested that oxidative stress is involved in the secondary brain injury after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Recently, numerous in vivo and in vitro studies were reported that puerarin could inhibit oxidative stress through the activation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)-Akt pathway. It is unknown, however, whether puerarin can provide neuroprotection and reduce oxidative stress after TBI. The present study investigated the effects of puerarin on the TBI-induced neurodegeneration, oxidative stress, and the possible role of PI3K-Akt pathway in the neuroprotection of puerarin, in a rat model of TBI. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Rats were randomly distributed into various subgroups undergoing the sham surgery or TBI procedures. Puerarin (200 mg/kg) was given intraperitoneally at 10 min before injury and PI3K-Akt pathway inhibitor LY294002 was also administered intracerebroventricular in one subgroup. All rats were killed at 24 h after TBI for examination. RESULTS: Our data indicated that puerarin could significantly reduce TBI-induced neuronal degeneration, accompanied by the partial restoration of the redox disturbance and enhanced expression of phospho-Akt in the pericontusional cortex after TBI. Moreover, PI3K-Akt pathway inhibitor LY294002 could partially abrogate the neuroprotection of puerarin in rats with TBI. CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that puerarin can ameliorate oxidative neurodegeneration after TBI, at least in part, through the activation of PI3K-Akt pathway.

BACKGROUND: Craniopharyngiomas are the commonest benign histological tumours to involve the hypothalamo-pituitary region in childhood. Cystic craniopharyngiomas comprise more than 90% of the tumours. The optimal treatment of cystic craniopharyngioma remains controversial. Radical resection is the treatment of choice in patients with favourable tumour localisation. When the tumour localisation is unfavourable, a gross-total or partial resection followed by radiotherapy is the main treatment option in adults. However, it presents a risk of morbidity, especially for children. Intracystic bleomycin has been utilised potentially to delay the use of radiotherapy or radical resection, to decrease morbidity. This review is an update of a previously published Cochrane review. OBJECTIVES: To assess the benefits and harmful effects of intracystic bleomycin in children from birth to 18 years with cystic craniopharyngioma when compared to placebo (no treatment), surgical treatment (with or without adjuvant radiotherapy) or some other intracyctic treatments. SEARCH METHODS: We searched the electronic databases CENTRAL (2014, Issue 1), MEDLINE/PubMed (from 1966 to March 2014) and EMBASE/Ovid (from 1980 to March 2014) with pre-specified terms. In addition, we searched the reference lists of relevant articles and reviews, conference proceedings (International Society for Paediatric Oncology 2005-2013) and ongoing trial databases (Register of the National Institute of Health and International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN) register) in May 2014. SELECTION CRITERIA: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs), quasi-randomised trials or controlled clinical trials (CCTs) comparing intracystic bleomycin and other treatments for cystic craniopharyngiomas in children (from birth to 18 years). DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Two review authors independently performed the data extraction and 'Risk of bias' assessment. We used risk ratio (RR) for binary data and mean difference (MD) for continuous data. We planned that if one of the treatment groups experienced no events and there was only one study available for the outcome, we would use the Fischer's exact test. MAIN RESULTS: We could not identify any studies in which the only difference between the treatment groups was the use of intracystic bleomycin. We did identify a RCT comparing intracystic bleomycin with intracystic phosphorus(32) ((32)P) (n = 7 children). The trial had a high risk of bias. Survival could not be evaluated. There was no evidence of a significant difference between the treatment groups in cyst reduction (MD -0.15, 95% confidence interval (CI) -0.69 to 0.39, P value = 0.59), neurological status (Fisher's exact P value = 0.429), 3rd nerve paralysis (Fischer's exact P value = 1.00), fever (RR 2.92, 95% CI 0.73 to 11.70, P value = 0.13) or total adverse effects (RR 1.75, 95% CI 0.68 to 4.53, P value = 0.25). There was a significant difference in favour of the (32)P group for the occurrence of headache and vomiting (Fischer's exact P value = 0.029 for both outcomes). AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: Since we identified no RCTs, quasi-randomised trials or CCTs of the treatment of cystic craniopharyngiomas in children in which only the use of intracystic bleomycin differed between the treatment groups, no definitive conclusions could be made about the effects of intracystic bleomycin in these patients. Only one low-power RCT comparing intracystic bleomycin with intracystic (32)P treatment was available, but no definitive conclusions can be made about the effectiveness of these agents in children with cystic craniopharyngiomas. Based on the currently available evidence, we are not able to give recommendations for the use of intracystic bleomycin in the treatment of cystic craniopharyngiomas in children. High-quality RCTs are needed.

AIM: This paper aimed to explore the application of three-dimensional (3D) printing in cardiovascular diseases, to reach an insight in this field and prospect the future trend. METHODS: The articles were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Excel 2019, VOSviewer 1.6.16, and CiteSpace 6.1.R6 were used to analyze the information. RESULTS: A total of 467 papers of 3D printing in cardiovascular diseases were identified, and the first included literature appeared in 2000. A total of 692 institutions from 52 countries participated in the relevant research, while the United States of America contributed to 160 articles and were in a leading position. The most productive institution was Curtin University , and Zhonghua Sun who has posted the most articles ( n =8) was also from there. The Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine published most papers ( n =25). The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery coveted the most citations ( n =520). Related topics of frontiers will still focus on congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease, and left atrial appendage closure. CONCLUSIONS: The authors summarized the publication information of the application of 3D printing in cardiovascular diseases related literature from 2000 to 2023, including country and institution of origin, authors, and publication journal. This study can reflect the current hotspots and novel directions for the application of 3D printing in cardiovascular diseases.

OBJECTIVE: Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick-borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. METHODS: Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). RESULTS: Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks. CONCLUSION: We conclude that both pathogens are endemic in the forest areas in the eight provinces, but the prevalence of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum differs between the provinces.
