RESUMO

Microenvironment-based alterations in phenotypes of mast cells influence the susceptibility to anaphylaxis, yet the mechanisms underlying proper maturation of mast cells toward an anaphylaxis-sensitive phenotype are incompletely understood. Here we report that PLA2G3, a mammalian homolog of anaphylactic bee venom phospholipase A2, regulates this process. PLA2G3 secreted from mast cells is coupled with fibroblastic lipocalin-type PGD2 synthase (L-PGDS) to provide PGD2, which facilitates mast-cell maturation via PGD2 receptor DP1. Mice lacking PLA2G3, L-PGDS or DP1, mast cell-deficient mice reconstituted with PLA2G3-null or DP1-null mast cells, or mast cells cultured with L-PGDS-ablated fibroblasts exhibited impaired maturation and anaphylaxis of mast cells. Thus, we describe a lipid-driven PLA2G3-L-PGDS-DP1 loop that drives mast cell maturation.

BACKGROUND: No reliable marker has been identified to predict postoperative recurrence of gastric cancer. We designed a clinical trial to investigate the utility of serum NY-ESO-1 antibody responses as a predictive marker for postoperative recurrence in gastric cancer. METHODS: A multicenter prospective study was conducted between 2012 and 2021. Patients with resectable cT3-4 gastric cancer were included. Postoperative NY-ESO-1 and p53 antibody responses were serially evaluated every 3 months for 1 year in patients with positive preoperative antibody responses. The recurrence rate was assessed by the positivity of antibody responses at 3 and 12 months postoperatively. RESULTS: Among 1001 patients, preoperative NY-ESO-1 and p53 antibody responses were positive in 12.6% and 18.1% of patients, respectively. NY-ESO-1 antibody responses became negative postoperatively in non-recurrent patients (negativity rates; 45% and 78% at 3 and 12 months, respectively), but remained positive in recurrent patients (negativity rates; 9% and 8%, respectively). p53 antibody responses remained positive in non-recurrent patients. In multivariate analysis, NY-ESO-1 antibody positivity at 3 months (P < 0.03) and 12 months (P < 0.001) were independent prognostic factors for a shorter recurrence-free interval. CONCLUSIONS: Serum NY-ESO-1 antibodies may be a useful predictive marker for postoperative recurrence in gastric cancer. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: UMIN000007925.

BACKGROUND: Stent underexpansion, typically related to lesion calcification, is the strongest predictor of adverse events after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Although uncommon, underexpansion may also occur in non-severely calcified lesions. AIM: We sought to identify the prevalence and anatomical characteristics of underexpansion in non-severely calcified lesions. METHODS: We included 993 patients who underwent optical coherence tomography-guided PCI of 1051 de novo lesions with maximum calcium arc <180°. Negative remodeling (NR) was the smallest lesion site external elastic lamina diameter that was also smaller than the distal reference. Stent expansion was evaluated using a linear regression model accounting for vessel tapering; underexpansion required both stent expansion <70% and stent area <4.5mm2. RESULTS: Underexpansion was observed in 3.6% of non-heavily calcified lesions (38/1051). Pre-stent maximum calcium arc and thickness were greater in lesions with versus without underexpansion (median 119° vs. 85°, p = 0.002; median 0.95 mm vs. 0.78 mm, p = 0.008). NR was also more common in lesions with underexpansion (44.7% vs. 24.5%, p = 0.007). In the multivariable logistic regression model, larger and thicker eccentric calcium, mid left anterior descending artery (LAD) location, and NR were associated with underexpansion in non-severely calcified lesions. The rate of underexpansion was especially high (30.7%) in lesions exhibiting all three morphologies. Two-year TLF tended to be higher in underexpanded versus non-underexpanded stents (9.7% vs. 3.7%, unadjusted hazard ratio [95% confidence interval] = 3.02 [0.92, 9.58], p = 0.06). CONCLUSION: Although underexpansion in the absence of severe calcium (<180°) is uncommon, mid-LAD lesions with NR and large and thick eccentric calcium were associated with underexpansion.

BACKGROUND: Comparative neuroanatomists have long sought to determine which part of the pallium in non-mammals is homologous to the mammalian neocortex. A number of similar connectivity patterns across species has led to the idea that the basic organization of the vertebrate brain is relatively conserved; thus, efforts of the last decades have been focused on determining a vertebrate "morphotype" - a model comprising the characteristics believed to have been present in the last common ancestor of all vertebrates. SUMMARY: The endeavor to determine the vertebrate morphotype has been riddled with controversies due to the extensive morphological diversity of the pallium among vertebrate taxa. Nonetheless, most proposed scenarios of pallial homology are variants of a common theme where the vertebrate pallium is subdivided into subdivisions homologous to the hippocampus, neocortex, piriform cortex and amygdala, in a one-to-one manner. We review the rationales of major propositions of pallial homology and identify the source of the discrepancies behind different hypotheses. We consider that a source of discrepancies is the prevailing assumption that there is a single "morphotype of the pallial subdivisions" throughout vertebrates. Instead, pallial subdivisions present in different taxa probably evolved independently in each lineage. KEY MESSAGES: We encounter discrepancies when we search for a single morphotype of subdivisions across vertebrates. These discrepancies can be resolved by considering that several subdivisions within the pallium were established after the divergence of the different lineages. The differences of pallial organization are especially remarkable between actinopterygians (including teleost fishes) and other vertebrates. Thus, the prevailing notion of a simple one-to-one homology between the mammalian and teleost pallia needs to be reconsidered.

Although serum troponin level is the gold standard under the universal definition of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), serum creatinine kinase (CK) and creatine kinase-myocardial band (CK-MB) is still measured in clinical practice as the compliment of troponin level. The purpose of this retrospective study is to illustrate the dramatic change of CK-MB/CK ratio by comparing CK-MB/CK ratio in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) among ≤ 24 h before reaching peak CK, peak CK, ≤ 24 h after reaching peak CK, and 24-48 h after reaching peak CK. We included 502 patients with STEMI. We calculated each average CK-MB/CK ratio at ≤ 24 h before reaching peak CK, peak CK, ≤ 24 h after reaching peak CK, and 24-48 h after reaching peak CK. The average values were compared using Friedman test. The average CK-MB/CK ratio at ≤ 24 h before reaching peak CK, peak CK, ≤ 24 h after reaching peak CK, and 24-48 h after reaching peak CK was 0.096 (9.6% of CK), 0.098 (9.8% of peak CK), 0.076 (7.6% of CK), and 0.028 (2.8% of CK), respectively. The Friedman test suggested that the CK-MB/CK ratio significantly declined after reaching peak CK (p < 0.001). In conclusion, the CK-MB/CK ratio was around 0.1 (10% of CK) until CK-MB and CK reached the peak, but dropped sharply after reaching peak CK. The CK-MB/CK ratio less than 0.1 (10% of CK) cannot be used to rule out the possibility of AMI, when the onset of symptom is unclear or late presentation.

Killip classification has been used to stratify the risk of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). There were many reports that Killip class 3 or 4 is closely associated with poor clinical outcomes. In other words, Killip class 1 or 2 is associated with favorable clinical outcomes in patients with AMI, especially when patients received primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, some patients with Killip class 1/2 suffer from serious in-hospital complications. This study aimed to identify factors associated with serious in-hospital complications of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in patients with Killip class 1/2. The primary endpoint was serious in-hospital complications defined as the composite of in-hospital death and mechanical complications. We included 809 patients with STEMI, and divided them into the non-complication group (n = 791) and the complication group (n = 18). In-hospital death was observed in 14 patients (1.7%), and mechanical complications were observed in 4 patients (0.5%). Final TIMI flow ≤ 2 was more frequently observed in the complication group (33.3%) than in the non-complication group (5.4%) (p < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that serious in-hospital complication was associated with final TIMI flow grade ≤ 2 (Odds ratio 6.040, 95% confidence interval 2.042-17.870, p = 0.001). In conclusion, serious in-hospital complication of STEMI was associated with insufficient final TIMI flow grade in patients with Killip class 1/2. If final TIMI flow grade is suboptimal after primary PCI, we may recognize the potential risk of serious complications even when patients presented as Killip class 1/2.

Mechanical complication (MC) is a rare but serious complication in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Although several risk factors for MC have been reported, a prediction model for MC has not been established. This study aimed to develop a simple prediction model for MC after STEMI. We included 1717 patients with STEMI who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Of 1717 patients, 45 MCs occurred after primary PCI. Prespecified predictors were determined to develop a tentative prediction model for MC using multivariable regression analysis. Then, a simple prediction model for MC was generated. Age ≥ 70, Killip class ≥ 2, white blood cell ≥ 10,000/µl, and onset-to-visit time ≥ 8 h were included in a simple prediction model as "point 1" risk score, whereas initial thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow grade ≤ 1 and final TIMI flow grade ≤ 2 were included as "point 2" risk score. The simple prediction model for MC showed good discrimination with the optimism-corrected area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve of 0.850 (95% CI: 0.798-0.902). The predicted probability for MC was 0-2% in patients with 0-4 points of risk score, whereas that was 6-50% in patients with 5-8 points. In conclusion, we developed a simple prediction model for MC. We may be able to predict the probability for MC by this simple prediction model.

Food-borne toxocariasis caused by the consumption of raw meat or liver has occasionally been reported from East Asia. We treated a 38-year-old Japanese man who was infected with Toxocara in China and underwent a four-week treatment with albendazole. The liver and lung lesions disappeared after the treatment, suggesting that the treatment was successful. One month after the end of the treatment, the patient relapsed, and albendazole was administered again for eight weeks. The patient has remained relapse-free for one year. Although toxocariasis can heal spontaneously, in some cases, such as the present case, the disease relapses even after long-term treatment. In conclusion, different durations of treatment are recommended by various guidelines, and the duration of treatment needs to be modified with each case, considering the response to the treatment.

Non-traumatic chronic skin lesions are the second most common cause of tetanus. Herein, we describe an 85-year-old woman who presented with a chronically infected skin lesion. She developed tetanus while in hospital and died of respiratory failure, after refusing mechanical ventilation. Routine immunization against tetanus began in Japan during 1968; hence many people born before 1968 are unvaccinated. Mortality due to tetanus is high and the proportion with protective antibodies is low in older adults. Therefore, we recommend tetanus vaccination for older persons in Japan who have chronic skin lesions and have never been vaccinated.

The management of persistent symptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections in immunocompromised patients remains unclear. Here, we present the first case of successful antiviral therapy (nirmatrelvir/ritonavir and remdesivir) in combination with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) in a patient who had received CD20 depleting therapy for follicular lymphoma and experienced recurrent COVID-19 relapses. After the patient received IVIg treatment, the viral load decreased without recurrence. Subsequently, it was found that the anti-spike antibody titer in the administered immunoglobulin was high at 9528.0 binding antibody units/mL. Our case highlights the potential of combination therapy with selective IVIg and antiviral drugs for relapsed immunocompromised COVID-19 patients who have received CD20 depleting therapy.

Short stature with IGF-1 receptor (IGF1R) gene alteration is known as small-for-gestational-age (SGA) short stature with elevated serum IGF1 levels. Its prevalence and clinical characteristics remain unclear. No adapted treatment is available for short stature related to IGF1R gene alteration in Japan, and genetic testing is not yet widely accessible. We investigated short stature with IGF1R gene alterations and analyzed the clinical data of 13 patients using the results of questionnaires issued to the Japanese Society for Pediatric Endocrinology. Four cases were caused by a deletion of chromosome 15q26.3, and eight were caused by heterozygous pathogenic variants in the IGF1R gene. Cases with deletions showed a more severe degree of growth impairment (-4.5 ± 0.43 SD) than those caused by pathological variants (-2.71 ± 0.15 SD) and were accompanied by neurodevelopmental delay. However, cases caused by pathological variants lacked distinctive features. Only three of the 12 cases demonstrated serum IGF1 values exceeding +2 SD, and the other three had values below 0 SD. Four patients did not meet the criteria for SGA at birth. Six patients received GH therapy for SGA short stature and showed improvement in growth rate without any side effects or elevated serum IGF1 levels during treatment. Elevated IGF1 levels (over +2 SD) after GH treatment should be considered a suspicious finding. Owing to the lack of distinctive features, there was a possibility of undiagnosed cases of this condition. Promoting genetic testing and clinical trials on GH administration for this condition is recommended.

Sphingolipidoses are inherited metabolic disorders associated with glycosphingolipids accumulation, neurodegeneration, and neuroinflammation leading to severe neurological symptoms. Lysoglycosphingolipids (lysoGSLs), also known to accumulate in the tissues of sphingolipidosis patients, exhibit cytotoxicity. LysoGSLs are the possible pathogenic cause, but the mechanisms are still unknown in detail. Here, we first show that lysoGSLs are potential inhibitors of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) to reduce cell survival signaling. We found that phosphorylated Akt was commonly reduced in fibroblasts from patients with sphingolipidoses, including GM1/GM2 gangliosidoses and Gaucher's disease, suggesting the contribution of lysoGSLs to the pathogenesis. LysoGSLs caused cell death and decreased the level of phosphorylated Akt as in the patient fibroblasts. Extracellularly administered lysoGM1 permeated the cell membrane to diffusely distribute in the cytoplasm. LysoGM1 and lysoGM2 also inhibited the production of phosphatidylinositol-(3,4,5)-triphosphate and the translocation of Akt from the cytoplasm to the plasma membrane. We also predicted that lysoGSLs could directly bind to the catalytic domain of PI3K by in silico docking study, suggesting that lysoGSLs could inhibit PI3K by directly interacting with PI3K in the cytoplasm. Furthermore, we revealed that the increment of lysoGSLs amounts in the brain of sphingolipidosis model mice correlated with the neurodegenerative progression. Our findings suggest that the down-regulation of PI3K/Akt signaling by direct interaction of lysoGSLs with PI3K in the brains is a neurodegenerative mechanism in sphingolipidoses. Moreover, we could propose the intracellular PI3K activation or inhibition of lysoGSLs biosynthesis as novel therapeutic approaches for sphingolipidoses because lysoGSLs should be cell death mediators by directly inhibiting PI3K, especially in neurons.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer treatment. Since clinical benefits are limited to a subset of patients, we aimed to identify peripheral blood biomarkers that predict the efficacy of the anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) antibody (nivolumab) in patients with gastric cancer. METHODS: We collected peripheral blood samples from gastric cancer patients (n = 29) before and after treatment with nivolumab and investigated the relationship between the frequency of surface or intracellular markers among nivolumab-binding PD-1+CD8+ T cells and treatment responses using multicolor flow cytometry. The tumors, lymph nodes, and peripheral blood of gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy following nivolumab treatment were collected, and nivolumab-binding PD-1+CD8+ T cells in these tissue samples were characterized. RESULTS: Patients with a high frequency of CD103 among PD-1+CD8+ T cells in peripheral blood 2 weeks after the start of treatment had significantly better progression-free survival than the low group (P = 0.032). This CD103+PD-1+CD8+ T cell population mainly consisted of central memory T cells, showing the high expression of Ki-67 and few cytotoxic granules. In contrast, effector memory T cells were more frequently observed among CD103+PD-1+CD8+ T cells in tumors, which implied a change in the differentiated status of central memory T cells in lymph nodes and peripheral blood to effector memory T cells in tumors during the treatment with ICIs. CONCLUSIONS: A high frequency of CD103 among PD-1+CD8+ T cells 2 weeks after nivolumab treatment in patients with advanced gastric cancer may be a useful biomarker for predicting the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy.

Phonons and magnons are engineered by periodic potential landscapes in phononic and magnonic crystals, and their combined studies may enable valley phonon transport tunable by the magnetic field. Through nonreciprocal surface acoustic wave transmission, we demonstrate valley-selective phonon-magnon scattering in magnetoelastic superlattices. The lattice symmetry and the out-of-plane magnetization component control the sign of nonreciprocity. The phonons in the valleys play a crucial role in generating nonreciprocal transmission by inducing circularly polarized strains that couple with the magnons. The transmission spectra show a nonreciprocity peak near a transmission gap, matching the phononic band structure. Our results open the way for manipulating valley phonon transport through periodically varying magnon-phonon coupling.

Harnessing the causal relationships between mechanical and magnetic properties of Van der Waals materials presents a wealth of untapped opportunity for scientific and technological advancement, from precision sensing to novel memories. This can, however, only be exploited if the means exist to efficiently interface with the magnetoelastic interaction. Here, we demonstrate acoustically driven spin-wave resonance in a crystalline antiferromagnet, chromium trichloride, via surface acoustic wave irradiation. The resulting magnon-phonon coupling is found to depend strongly on sample temperature and external magnetic field orientation, and displays a high sensitivity to extremely weak magnetic anisotropy fields in the few mT range. Our work demonstrates a natural pairing between power-efficient strain-wave technology and the excellent mechanical properties of Van der Waals materials, representing a foothold toward widespread future adoption of dynamic magnetoacoustics.

We experimentally and theoretically demonstrate that nonlinear spin-wave interactions suppress the hybrid magnon-photon quasiparticle or "magnon polariton" in microwave spectra of a yttrium iron garnet film detected by an on-chip split-ring resonator. We observe a strong coupling between the Kittel and microwave cavity modes in terms of an avoided crossing as a function of magnetic fields at low microwave input powers, but a complete closing of the gap at high powers. The experimental results are well explained by a theoretical model including the three-magnon decay of the Kittel magnon into spin waves. The gap closure originates from the saturation of the ferromagnetic resonance above the Suhl instability threshold by a coherent backreaction from the spin waves.

A Gram-stain-negative, spiral bacterium (PAGU 1991T) was isolated from the blood of a patient with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the isolate was very closely related to Helicobacter equorum LMG 23362T (99.1 % similarity), originally isolated from a faecal sample from a healthy horse. PAGU 1991T was also very closely related to PAGU 1750 in our strain library (=CCUG 41437) with 99.7 % similarity. Additional phylogenetic analyses based on the 23S rRNA gene sequence and GyrA amino acid sequence further supported the close relationship between the two human isolates (PAGU 1991T and PAGU 1750) and the horse strain. However, a phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA showed that the two human isolates formed a lineage that was distinct from the horse strain (less than 99.2 % similarity). In silico whole-genome comparisons based on digital DNA-DNA hybridization, average nucleotide identity based on blast and orthologous average nucleotide identity using usearch between the two human isolates and the type strain of H. equorum showed values of less than 52.40, 93.47, and 93.50 %, respectively, whereas those between the two human isolates were 75.8, 97.2, and 97.2 %, respectively. These data clearly demonstrated that the two human isolates formed a single species, distinct from H. equorum. Morphologically, the human isolates could be distinguished by the type of flagella; the human isolates showed a bipolar sheathed flagellum, whereas that of H. equorum was monopolar. Biochemically, the human isolate was characterized by growth at 42 °C under microaerobic conditions and nitrate reduction unability. We conclude that the two human isolates, obtained from geographically and temporally distinct sources, were a novel species, for which we propose the name Helicobacter kumamotonensis sp. nov., with the type strain PAGU 1991T (=GTC 16810T=CCUG 75774T).

BACKGROUNDS: Intestinal ischemia of strangulated small bowel obstruction (SSBO) requires prompt identification and early intervention. This study aimed to evaluate the risk factors and develop a prediction model of intestinal ischemia requiring bowel resection in SSBO. METHODS: This was a single-center, retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients underwent emergency surgery for SSBO from April 2007 to December 2021. Univariate analysis was performed to identify the risk factors for bowel resection in these patients. Two clinical scores (with contrasted computed tomography [CT] and without contrasted CT) were developed to predict intestinal ischemia. The scores were validated in an independent cohort. RESULTS: A total of 127 patients were included, 100 in the development cohort (DC) and 27 in the validation cohort (VC). Univariate analysis showed that high white blood cell count (WBC), low base excess (BE), ascites and reduced bowel enhancement were significantly associated with bowel resection. The ischemia prediction score (IsPS) comprised 1 point each for WBC ≥ 10,000/L, BE ≤ -1.0 mmol/L, ascites, and 2 points for reduced bowel enhancement. The simple IsPS (s-IsPS, without contrasted CT) of 2 or more had a sensitivity of 69.4%, specificity of 65.4%. The modified IsPS (m-IsPS, with contrasted CT) of 3 or more had a sensitivity of 86.7%, specificity of 76.0%. AUC of s-IsPS was 0.716 in DC and 0.812 in VC, and AUC of m-IsPS was 0.838 and 0.814. CONCLUSION: IsPS predicted possibility of ischemic intestinal resection with high accuracy and can help in the early identification of intestinal ischemia in SSBO.

BACKGROUND: Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) is the most common causative microorganism of pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis (PVO). Although oral antimicrobial therapy with first-generation cephalosporins can treat MSSA infection, data on PVO are scarce. This study evaluated the treatment efficacy of cephalexin as oral antibiotic therapy for MSSA-induced PVO. METHODS: This retrospective study included adult patients treated with oral cephalexin as the completing treatment for PVO with MSSA bacteremia from 2012 to 2020. Treatment effectiveness of cephalexin was evaluated by comparing improvement (5-point scale; score ≥ 4/5 indicates treatment success) in symptoms and laboratory and imaging results between intravenous antimicrobial and oral cephalexin treatment. RESULTS: Among 15 participants (8 [53%] women; median [interquartile range, IQR], age 75 [67.5-80.5] years; Charlson Comorbidity Index 2 [0-4]), 10 (67%) had lumbar spine lesions, 12 (80%) had spinal abscesses, and 4 (27%) had remote abscesses; no patients had concomitant endocarditis. In 11 patients with normal renal function, cephalexin 1,500-2,000 mg/day was administered. Five patients (33%) underwent surgery. Median (IQR; range) duration (days) of intravenous antibiotics, cephalexin, and total treatment was 36 (32-61; 21-86), 29 (19-82; 8-251), and 86 (59-125; 37-337), respectively. Cephalexin had an 87% treatment success rate without recurrence during a median follow-up of 119 (IQR, 48.5-350) days. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with MSSA bacteremia and PVO, antibiotic treatment completion with cephalexin is a reasonable option, even in cases with spinal abscess, if at least 3 weeks of effective intravenous antimicrobial therapy is provided.

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterium abscessus subsp. massiliense (MMA) comprises a group of non-tuberculous, rapidly growing mycobacteria. Although MMA can cause pulmonary diseases, surgical site infections, and disseminated diseases, aortic endograft infection has not been reported. Here, we describe the first case of aortic endograft infection caused by MMA. CASE PRESENTATION: Two months after stent-graft insertion for an abdominal aortic aneurysm, an 85-year-old man was admitted with fever and abdominal pain and was diagnosed with aortic endograft infection. Despite 14 days of meropenem and vancomycin intravenous administration, periaortic fluid pooling increased as compared to that before antibiotic administration. The abscess was drained, and fluorescent acid-fast staining of the abscess fluid revealed bacilli. We conducted genetic tests on the genes hsp65, rpoB, and sodA, performed Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), and identified the organism as MMA. Intravenous imipenem-cilastatin (IPM/CS), amikacin (AMK), and oral clarithromycin (CAM) were administered. After 2 months, oral CAM and sitafloxacin were administered because the abscess had decreased in size. However, after 6 weeks, the abscess increased in size again. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing of the drainage fluid from the abscess resulted in the isolation of an MMA strain that had acquired resistance to CAM. Intravenous IPM/CS, AMK, and oral linezolid were added to the treatment regimen along with oral CAM and STFX. However, he was not fully cured and died 6 months later. Neither the full-length erythromycin ribosome methyltransferase (erm)(41) gene nor the rrl or rpIV gene mutations were found by Sanger sequencing in the pre- and post-treatment strains. Whole-genome sequence analysis of the post-treatment strain revealed mutations in genes with no previous reports of association with macrolide resistance. CONCLUSIONS: Aortic endograft infection caused by MMA strain is extremely rare; nonetheless, MMA should be suspected as the causative microorganism when broad-spectrum antimicrobials are ineffective.
