RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) by analysing the clinical features and computed tomography (CT) findings of patients with active pulmonary TB and comorbid T2DM (TB-DM) in the LiangShan Yi regions. METHODS: We collected data from 154 hospitalised patients with TB-DM initially confirmed at an infectious disease hospital in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture between 1 and 2019, and 31 December 2021. These were matched by sex and age ± 3 years to 145 hospitalised patients with initially confirmed pulmonary TB without comorbid T2DM (TB-NDM) over the same period. The clinical characteristics of the two groups were analysed separately. Three group-blinded radiologists independently analysed the CT findings and classified them into mild-to-moderate and severe groups. Severe chest CT lesion refers to a lesion that is less diffused or moderately dense and either exceeds the total volume of one lung, a high-density fused lesion greater than one-third of the volume of one lung, or a cavitary lesion with a maximum diameter ≥ 4 cm. RESULTS: No significant differences were observed in the presentation of clinical features. Regarding the severity of chest CT manifestation, patients with TB-DM had significantly more severe TB than those with TB-NDM (89.61% vs. 68.97%, P < 0.0001). Regarding CT findings, patients with TB-DM had higher proportions of consolidation (79.22% vs. 52.41%, P < 0.0001), cavitary lesions (85.06% vs. 59.31%, P < 0.0001), bronchiectasis (71.43% vs. 31.03%, P < 0.0001), exudative lesions (88.96% vs. 68.28%, P < 0.0001), and fibrous lesions (93.51% vs. 68.97%, P < 0.0001) than patients with TB-NDM. In conclusion, patients with TB-DM have more severe pulmonary TB CT findings than those without. There were no significant differences in the distribution of lesions in the lung lobes between TB-DM and TB-NDM patients. CONCLUSIONS: Among patients hospitalised with pulmonary TB, those with T2DM had more severe findings on chest CT than those without T2DM. However, the clinical presentation was not significantly different.

RESUMO

How to use bioinformatics methods to quickly and accurately locate the effective targets of traditional Chinese medicine monomer (TCM) is still an urgent problem needing to be solved. Here, we used high-throughput sequencing to identify the genes that were up-regulated after cells were treated with TCM monomers and used bioinformatics methods to analyze which transcription factors activated these genes. Then, the binding proteins of these transcription factors were analyzed and cross-analyzed with the docking proteins predicted by small molecule reverse docking software to quickly and accurately determine the monomer's targets. Followeding this method, we predicted that the TCM monomer Daphnoretin (DT) directly binds to JAK2 with a binding energy of -5.43 kcal/mol, and activates the JAK2/STAT3 signaling transduction pathway. Subsequent Western blotting and in vitro binding and kinase experiments further validated our bioinformatics predictions. Our method provides a new approach for quickly and accurately locating the effective targets of TCM monomers, and we also have discovered for the first time that TCM monomer DT is an agonist of JAK2.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of tirofiban during endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CENTRAL (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) databases for randomized controlled trials and cohort studies (published before May 1, 2020; no language restrictions) comparing tirofiban administration to blank control during EVT in patients with AIS. Our primary end points were the 3-month functional outcome, recanalization rate, symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage, and 3-month mortality. RESULTS: The incidence of 3-month modified Rankin Scale (mRS) 0-2 score of the tirofiban group was higher than that of the control group (odds ratio [OR] = 1.27, 95% CI [1.09, 1.48], p = 0.002) with heterogeneity (I2 = 34%, p = 0.11). Data pooled from the 6 studies describing the details of retriever stent in EVT revealed that tirofiban was associated with higher incidence of 3-month mRS 0-2 score (OR = 1.48, 95% CI [1.11, 1.96], p = 0.007). The recanalization rate was higher in the tirofiban group compared to the control group (OR = 1.66, 95% CI [1.16, 2.39], p = 0.006). There were no statistically significant differences in the incidence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (OR = 0.97, 95% CI [0.73, 1.31], p = 0.86) and intracranial hemorrhage (OR = 1.08, 95% CI [0.59, 1.97], p = 0.80) between tirofiban and non-tirofiban group. Besides, the tirofiban administration was associated with lower mortality (OR = 0.75, 95% CI [0.62, 0.91], p = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS: The application of tirofiban in EVT of AIS may improve functional outcomes and reduce mortality at 3 months. Besides, tirofiban does not seem to increase the risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage and intracranial hemorrhage, either in the anterior or posterior circulation stroke.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Designing a high-concentration (50%, w/w) maltodextrin saccharification process is a green method to increase the productivity of maltose syrup. RESULTS: In this study, a temperature-mediated two-step process using ß-amylase and pullulanase was investigated as a strategy to improve the efficiency of saccharification. During the saccharification process, both pullulanase addition time and temperature adjustment greatly impacted the final maltose yield. These results indicated that an appropriate ß-amylolysis in the first stage (the first 8 h) was required to facilitate saccharification process, with the maltose yield of 8.46% greater than that of the single step saccharification. Molecular structure analysis further demonstrated that a relatively low temperature (50 °C), as compared with a normal temperature (60 °C), in the first stage resulted in a greater number of chains polymerized by at least seven glucose units and a less heterogeneity system within the residual substrate. The molecular structure of the residual substrate might be beneficial for the subsequent cooperation between ß-amylase and pullulanase in the following 40 h (second stage). CONCLUSION: Over a 48 h saccharification, the temperature-mediated two-step process dramatically increased the conversion rate of maltodextrin and yielded significantly more maltose and less byproduct, as compared with a constant-temperature process. The two-step saccharification process therefore offered an efficient and green strategy for maltose syrup production in industry. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Atrazine is widely used in agriculture and is a known endocrine disrupting chemical. Atrazine can seep into the water body through surface, posing a potential threat to the aquatic ecological environment and human drinking water source. In vertebrate, studies have shown that it can affect reproduction and development seriously, but its molecular mechanism for aquatic animals is unknown. Aquaculture is very common in China, especially common carp, whose females grow faster than males. However, the effects of atrazine on the reproduction of carp, especially miRNA, have not been investigated. RESULTS: In this study, common carp (Cyprinus carpio) at two key developmental stages were exposed to atrazine in vitro. Sex ratio was observed to analyze the effect of atrazine on the sex. MiRNA expression profiles were analysed to identify miRNAs related to gonad development and to reveal the atrazine mechanisms interfering with gonad differentiation. The results showed that the sex ratio was biased towards females. Atrazine exposure caused significant alteration of multiple miRNAs. Predicted targets of differently-expressed miRNAs were involved in many reproductive biology signalling pathways. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that atrazine promoted the expression of female-biased genes by decreasing miRNAs in primordial gonad. In addition, our results indicate that atrazine can up-regulate aromatase expression through miRNAs, which supports the hypothesis that atrazine has endocrine-disrupting activity by altering the gene expression profile of the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Gonad axis through its corresponding miRNAs.

RESUMO

LiBC is a layered boron carbide material that was first studied as a superconducting material. Theoretical study showed that LiBC is a promising cathode material in Li-ion batteries, while our early computational and experimental studies demonstrated the feasibility of LiBC as a high-capacity anode material for Li-ion batteries. In this work, LiBC has been synthesized by a solid-state method using different carbon precursors of acetylene black and graphite, marked a-LiBC and g-LiBC, respectively, and their electrochemical properties and corresponding structure evolutions have been investigated in Li-ion batteries. As a result, a-LiBC delivers a higher specific capacity than g-LiBC, 500 mA h g-1vs. 200 mA h g-1, after 50 cycles at a rate of 0.1C. Actually, a significant structural evolution of a-LiBC was observed by in situ XRD during the charge/discharge processes, while a nearly constant structure was detected for g-LiBC. Meanwhile, in situ Raman results revealed the evolution of vibrational beating modes at different charge/discharge states. Therefore, the specific capacity of LiBC is closely related to its crystallinity, and LiBC with amorphous carbon precursors could be adopted as a promising anode material for Li-ion batteries.

RESUMO

AIM: This study aims to explore the accuracy, specificity and laws of axillary lymph node metastasis predicted by sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) by comparing axillary lymph node status via SLNB and axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) with nanocarbon as the tracer. METHODS: Forty six patients were retrospectively analyzed. These patients underwent SLNB with nanocarbon as the tracer from March 2013 to April 2014. RESULTS: Two hundred and forty six patients of sentinel lymph node (SLN) were successfully detected. Among these patients, 8 patients had 1 SLN (3.25%), 33 patients had 2 SLN (13.41%), 46 patients had 3 SLN (18.70%), 51 patients had 4 SLN (20.73%), 40 patients had 5 SLN (16.26%), 24 patients had 6 SLN (9.76%) and 24 patients had 7 or more SLN (9.76%). The SLNB success rate of nanocarbon staining in the 246 cases was 99.59%, accuracy rate was 97.06% and sensitivity was 93.22%. Furthermore, false negatives were found in four patients, and the false-negative rate was 6.78%. The number of lymph node metastasis in the SLNB and ALND of early-stage breast cancer was analyzed. When the number of SLN dissection was 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7, the coincidence rate of lymph node metastasis for SLNB and ALND was 80.00, 84.36, 78.57, 88.89, 90.48, 80.00, 73.68 and 78.36, respectively. CONCLUSION: Sentinel lymph node biopsy performed using the nanocarbon staining method is simple, easy and reliable, and it can be used to predict the axillary status of breast cancer in the early stage.

RESUMO

Based on the fact that chromogenic reaction of blue complex, a reaction product which can be dissolved in organic solvents, can be realized by polyethoxy and ammonium thiocyanate in tween 80, a rapid and accurate way for the determination for tween 80 in pharmaceutical adjuvant was established in this study, providing reliable technical means for quality control of traditional Chinese medicine injections. Based on the study of reaction kinetics, chromogenic reaction temperature and time, as well as extraction of organic solvents and other key conditions were optimized, and Kumu injection was used as the test material for method validation and applicability investigation. It was finally determined that 3 mL ammonium thiocyanate solution was added in the sample solution, and the reaction was carried out in a boiling water bath for 2 h. After cooling to room temperature, 5 mL of dichloromethane was added to extract the chromogenic product. The absorbance value was measured at the wavelength of 623 nm to calculate the tween 80 content in the sample. Under optimized conditions, tween 80 solution showed a good linear relationship with the absorbance in the range from 0.8 mg to 3.0 mg. The linear regression equation was y=0.258x-0.047. The correlation coefficient r was 0.999 6. Under the experimental conditions, the average recovery was 99.66%, and the precision RSD was less than 2.0%. The results showed that this method can quickly and accurately determine the content of tween 80 in Kumu injection, and it could be applicable to the quality control of traditional Chinese medicine injections.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression by targeting specific mRNAs. However, the possible role of miRNAs in the ovary differentiation and development of fish is not well understood. In this study, we examined the expression profiles and differential expression of miRNAs during three key stages of ovarian development and different developmental stages in common carp Cyprinus carpio. RESULTS: A total of 8765 miRNAs were identified, including 2155 conserved miRNAs highly conserved among various species, 145 miRNAs registered in miRBase for common carp, and 6505 novel miRNAs identified in common carp for the first time. Comparison of miRNA expression profiles among the five libraries identified 714 co-expressed and 2382 specific expressed miRNAs. Overall, 150, 628, and 431 specifically expressed miRNAs were identified in primordial gonad, juvenile ovary, and adult ovary, respectively. MiR-6758-3p, miR-3050-5p, and miR-2985-3p were highly expressed in primordial gonad, miR-3544-5p, miR-6877-3p, and miR-9086-5p were highly expressed in juvenile ovary, and miR-154-3p, miR-5307-5p, and miR-3958-3p were highly expressed in adult ovary. Predicted target genes of specific miRNAs in primordial gonad were involved in many reproductive biology signaling pathways, including transforming growth factor-ß, Wnt, oocyte meiosis, mitogen-activated protein kinase, Notch, p53, and gonadotropin-releasing hormone pathways. Target-gene prediction revealed upward trends in miRNAs targeting male-bias genes, including dmrt1, atm, gsdf, and sox9, and downward trends in miRNAs targeting female-bias genes including foxl2, smad3, and smad4. Other sex-related genes such as sf1 were also predicted to be miRNA target genes. CONCLUSIONS: This comprehensive miRNA transcriptome analysis demonstrated differential expression profiles of miRNAs during ovary development in common carp. These results could facilitate future exploitation of the sex-regulatory roles and mechanisms of miRNAs, especially in primordial gonads, while the specifically expressed miRNAs represent candidates for studying the mechanisms of ovary determination in Yellow River carp.

RESUMO

Objective: Soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (sTREM2) is a potential neuroinflammatory biomarker linked to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Previous studies have produced inconsistent results regarding sTREM2 levels in various clinical stages of AD. This study aims to establish the correlation between sTREM2 levels and AD progression through a meta-analysis of sTREM2 levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood. Methods: Comprehensive searches were conducted in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library to identify observational studies reporting CSF and blood sTREM2 levels in AD patients, MCI patients, and healthy controls. A random effects meta-analysis was used to calculate the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Thirty-six observational studies involving 3,016 AD patients, 3,533 MCI patients, and 4,510 healthy controls were included. CSF sTREM2 levels were significantly higher in both the AD [SMD = 0.28, 95% CI (0.15, 0.41)] and MCI groups [SMD = 0.30, 95% CI (0.13, 0.47)] compared to the healthy control group. However, no significant differences in expression were detected between the AD and MCI groups [SMD = 0.09, 95% CI (-0.09, 0.26)]. Furthermore, increased plasma sTREM2 levels were associated with a higher risk of AD [SMD = 0.42, 95% CI (0.01, 0.83)]. Conclusion: CSF sTREM2 levels are positively associated with an increased risk of AD and MCI. Plasma sTREM2 levels were notably higher in the AD group than in the control group and may serve as a promising biomarker for diagnosing AD. However, sTREM2 levels are not effective for distinguishing between different disease stages of AD. Further investigations are needed to explore the longitudinal changes in sTREM2 levels, particularly plasma sTREM2 levels, during AD progression. RESUMO

The deposition of the extracellular matrix, especially collagen, and the elevated expression levels of reactive oxygen species, including H2O2, are the main features of fibrosis. Fibrosis can occur in many tissues, such as tumor and liver tissues. The deposition of collagen in the location of lesions not only leads to immunological rejection and supports liver fibrosis and tumor progression, but also provides unique physiological signals with the progression of fibrosis and tumor. However, at present, the detection of fibrosis, especially real time detection, is greatly difficult, making it important to develop noninvasive probes for the dynamic monitoring of fibrosis progression. Herein, we propose a H2O2 responsive macromolecular probe for collagen imaging with high sensitivity and specificity. This probe consists of a collagen-targeting peptide and a H2O2-sensitive and near-infrared (NIR)-emitting macromolecular optical probe, which could effectively bind to collagen both in vitro and in vivo in the region of tumor or fibrotic liver tissues, allowing for high sensitivity and noninvasive visualization of fibrotic tissues and real time monitoring of collagen degradation after anti-fibrotic drug treatment.

RESUMO

Egg production plays a pivotal role in the economic viability of hens. To analyze the genetic rules of egg production, a total of 3151 Luhua chickens were selected, the egg production traits including egg weight at first laying (Start-EW), egg weight at 43 weeks (EW-43), egg number at 43 weeks (EN-43), and total egg number (EN-All) were recorded. Then, the effects of related factors on egg production traits were explored, using a multi-trait animal model for genetic parameter estimation and a genome-wide association study (GWAS). The results showed that body weight at first egg (BWFE), body weight at 43 weeks (BW-43), age at first egg (AFE), and seasons had significant effects on the egg production traits. Start-EW and EW-43 had moderate heritability of 0.30 and 0.21, while EN-43 and EN-All had low heritability of 0.13 and 0.16, respectively. Start-EW exhibited a robust positive correlation with EW-43, while Start-EW was negatively correlated with EN-43 and EN-All. Furthermore, gene ontology (GO) results indicated that Annexin A2 (ANXA2) and Frizzled family receptor 7 (FZD7) related to EW-43, Cyclin D1 (CCND1) and A2B adenosine receptor (ADORA2B) related to EN-All, and have been found to be mainly involved in metabolism and growth processes, and deserve more attention and further study. This study contributes to accelerating genetic progress in improving low heritability egg production traits in layers, especially in Luhua chickens.

RESUMO

The use of natural and safe ingredients in green food packaging material is a hot research topic. This study investigated the effect of different emulsifiers on starch film properties. Three types of emulsifiers, including Tween 80 as a small-molecule surfactant, sodium caseinate (CAS), whey protein isolate (WPI), and gelatin (GE) as macromolecule emulsifiers, whey protein isolate fibril (WPIF) as a particle emulsifier, were utilized to prepare Zanthoxylum bungeanum essential oil (ZBO) emulsions. The mechanical, physical, thermal, antibacterial properties, microstructure and essential oil release of starch films were investigated. CAS-ZBO nanoemulsion exhibited the smallest particle size of 198.6 ± 2.2 nm. The film properties changed with different emulsifiers. CAS-ZBO film showed the highest tensile strength value. CAS-ZBO and WPIF-ZBO films exhibited lower water vapor permeability than Tween-ZBO. CAS-ZBO film showed good dispersion of essential oil, the slowest release rate of essential oils in all food simulants, and the best antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes. The films composed of CAS-ZBO nanoemulsion, corn starch, and glycerol are considered more suitable for food packaging. This work indicated that natural macromolecule emulsifiers of CAS and WPIF are expected to be used in green food packaging material to offer better film properties.

RESUMO

Increasing the substrate concentration can effectively reduce energy consumption and result in more economic benefits in the industrial production of maltose, but this process remarkably increases the viscosity, which has a negative effect on saccharification. To improve saccharification efficiency, pullulanase is usually employed. In the conventional process of maltose production, pullulanase is added at the same time with ß-amylase or later, but this process seems inefficient when the substrate concentration is high. Herein, a novel method was introduced to enhance the maltose yield under high substrate concentration. The results indicated that the pullulanase pretreatment of highly concentrated maltodextrin solution for 2 h greatly affects the final conversion rate of ß-amylase-catalyzed saccharification. The maltose yield reached 80.95 %, which is 11.8 % above the control value. Further examination confirmed that pullulanase pretreatment decreased the number of branch points of maltodextrin and resulted in a high content of oligosaccharides. These linear chains were suitable for ß-amylase-catalyzed saccharification to produce maltose. This research offers a new effective and green strategy for starch sugar production.

RESUMO

The photo-Fenton process provides a sustainable and cost-effective strategy for removing refractory organic contaminants in wastewater. Herein, a high-efficient Fe-doped g-C3N4 photocatalyst (Fe@CN10) with a unique 3D porous mesh structure was prepared by one-pot thermal polymerization for ultrafast degradation of azo dyes, antibiotics, and phenolic acids in heterogeneous photo-Fenton systems under visible light irradiation. Fe@CN10 exhibited a synergy between adsorption-degradation processes due to the co-existence of Fe3C and Fe3N active sites. Specifically, Fe3C acted as an adsorption site for pollutant and H2O2 molecules, while Fe3N acted as a photocatalytic active site for the high-efficient degradation of MO. Resultingly, Fe@CN10 showed a photocatalytic degradation rate of MO up to 140.32 mg/L min-1. The dominant ROS contributed to the removal of MO in the photo-Fenton pathway was hydroxyl radical (•OH). Surprisingly, as the key reactive species, singlet oxygen (1O2) generated from superoxide radical (•O2-) also efficiently attacked MO in a photo-self-Fenton pathway. Additionally, sponge/Fe@CN10 was prepared and filled in the continuous flow reactors for nearly 100% degradation of MO over 150 h when treating artificial organic wastewater. This work provided a facile route to prepare highly-active Fe-doped photocatalysts and develop a green photocatalytic system for wastewater treatment in the future.

RESUMO

Diclazuril (DIC) is a broad-spectrum anti-coccidiosis drug of the triazine class, widely used in poultry farming. The overuse of DIC may lead to its accumulation in animal bodies, which may enter the food chain and threaten human health. In this work, we fabricated a stable Eu3+-doped UiO-66 fluorescence sensor (EuUHIPA-30) for the sensitive detection of DIC. Among 20 veterinary drugs, the fluorescence of EuUHIPA-30 selectively responds to DIC, with a low detection limit (0.19 µM) and fast response (10 s). EuUHIPA-30 is recyclable and can detect DIC in chicken and eggs with good recoveries. Moreover, a smartphone-integrated paper-based sensor enables the instrument-free, rapid, visual, and intelligent detection of DIC in chickens and eggs. This work provides a promising candidate for practical fluorescent DIC sensing in animal-derived food to promote food safety.

RESUMO

Polymer-based composites are considered promising candidates for bone repair as they possess some outstanding advantages over ceramic/metallic/polymeric biomaterials. Tantalum (Ta)/polyimide (PI) biocomposites (PT) containing 20 v% (PT20) and 40 v% (PT40) Ta nanoparticles were fabricated, and luteolin (LU) was loaded on PT40 (LUPT40). Compared with PT20 and PI, PT40 with a high Ta content displayed high surface behaviors (e.g., roughness, surface energy, and hydrophilicity). PT40 remarkably improved cell adhesion and multiplication, and LUPT40 with LU displayed further enhancement in vitro. Moreover, LUPT40 evidently boosted osteoblastic differentiation while suppressing osteoclastic differentiation. Furthermore, LUPT40 exhibited good antibacterial effects because of the slow release of LU. The in vivo results confirmed that PT40 markedly promoted bone formation and LUPT40 further enhanced bone formation/bone bonding. In brief, the incorporation of Ta particles improved the surface behaviors of PT40, which stimulated cell response/bone formation. Moreover, the slow release of LU from LUPT40 not only promoted cell response/bone formation but also enhanced bone bonding. The synergistic effects of Ta and LU release from LUPT40 enhanced bone formation/bone bonding. Therefore, LUPT40 would have great potential for the repair of bear-loading bone.

RESUMO

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have been demonstrated as a renewable energy strategy to efficiently recover chemical energy stored in wastewater into clean electricity, yet the limited power density limits their practical application. Here, Fe-doped carbon and nitrogen (Fe@CN) nanoparticles were synthesized by a direct pyrolysis process, which was further decorated to fabricate Fe@CN carbon paper anode. The modified Fe@CN anode with a higher electrochemically active surface area was not only benefit for the adhesion of electrochemically active microorganisms (EAMs) and extracellular electron transfer (EET) between the anode and EAMs but also selectively enriched Geobacter, a typical EAMs species. Accordingly, the MFCs with Fe@CN anode successfully achieved a highest voltage output of 792.76 mV and a prolonged stable voltage output of 300 h based on the mixed culture feeding with acetate. Most importantly, the electroactive biofilms on Fe@CN anode achieved more content ratio of proteins to polysaccharides (1.40) in extracellular polymeric substances for the balance between EET and cell protection under a harsh environment. This work demonstrated the feasibility of development on anode catalysts for the elaboration of the catalytic principle about interface modification, which may contribute to the practical application of MFC in energy generation and wastewater treatment.

RESUMO

Dyslipidemia, a condition implying high cardiovascular risks, has been widely studied on its potential nutrition interventions, including functional foods. This study aims to examine the effect of nattokinase monascus supplements (NMSs) on cardiovascular biomarkers and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) in patients with dyslipidemia. A total of 113 eligible subjects were randomly assigned to receive either NMSs or a placebo (55 and 58, respectively). After a 120-day intervention, there were significant mean absolute changes in total cholesterol (TC), low-density cholesterol (LDL-C), non-high-density cholesterol (non-HDL-C), and low-density cholesterol to high-density cholesterol ratio (LDL-C to HDL-C ratio), with values of -0.52 (95% CI: -0.51 to -0.54) mmol/L, -0.43 (95% CI: -0.45 to -0.41) mmol/L, -0.52 (95% CI: -0.52 to -0.52) mmol/L, and -0.29 (95% CI: -0.30 to -0.28) mmol/L, respectively, between the two groups. However, no significant differences were found in triglycerides (TGs), high-density cholesterol (HDL-C), and CIMT. Furthermore, the results for lipids and CIMT remained essentially unchanged after adjusting for various confounding factors using the analysis of covariance model. There were no significant differences in coagulation, liver function, renal function, or other indicators. No intervention-related adverse events, such as mouth ulcers, drooling, and stomach pain, were reported. The study results demonstrate that NMSs can ameliorate lipid levels (TC, LDL-C, non-HDL-C, and the LDL-C to HDL-C ratio) without the occurrence of adverse events. However, it did not significantly affect serum TG, HDL-C, and CIMT.

RESUMO

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate clinical features and computed tomography (CT) manifestations of rifampicin primary drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture. Patients and Methods: A total of 100 inpatients with confirmed primary rifampicin-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis were recruited from January 2020 to December 2022 at an infectious disease hospital located in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture. Additionally, 100 inpatients with confirmed drug-susceptible pulmonary tuberculosis during the same period were matched to the rifampicin-resistant group based on gender, age, and ethnicity. The clinical characteristics of the two groups were recorded separately. Furthermore, the CT manifestations in these patients were independently analyzed by three radiologists. Results: The results showed that comorbid diabetes mellitus was more prevalent in the drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) group than in the drug-susceptible tuberculosis (DS-TB) group (9% vs 0%, p=0.0032). In terms of imaging presentation, DR-TB patients exhibited a higher frequency of calcifications (55% vs 35.00%, p=0.0068), greater median number of cavities (5 vs 2, p=0.0027), and larger maximum cavity diameter (52.08±25.55 mm vs 42.72±17.48 mm, p=0.0097). Additionally, bilateral involvement was more common in DR-TB patients at the site of the lesion (89% vs 76%, p=0.0246), with a higher prevalence in the right middle (82% vs 68%, p=0.0332), right lower (82% vs 68%, p=0.0332), left upper (91% vs 77%, p=0.0113), and left lower lobes (92% vs 66%, p<0.0001). Conversely, the involvement of only one lobe was less frequent in patients with DR-TB than in those with DS-TB (4% vs 13%, p=0.0398), whereas the involvement of all five lobes was more common (68% vs 51%, p=0.0209). Conclusion: Patients with DR-TB exhibit a higher prevalence of severe imaging manifestations, highlighting the importance of CT in the early detection and diagnosis of DR-TB.
