RESUMO

Phytoplankton blooms in coastal oceans can be beneficial to coastal fisheries production and ecosystem function, but can also cause major environmental problems1,2-yet detailed characterizations of bloom incidence and distribution are not available worldwide. Here we map daily marine coastal algal blooms between 2003 and 2020 using global satellite observations at 1-km spatial resolution. We found that algal blooms occurred in 126 out of the 153 coastal countries examined. Globally, the spatial extent (+13.2%) and frequency (+59.2%) of blooms increased significantly (P < 0.05) over the study period, whereas blooms weakened in tropical and subtropical areas of the Northern Hemisphere. We documented the relationship between the bloom trends and ocean circulation, and identified the stimulatory effects of recent increases in sea surface temperature. Our compilation of daily mapped coastal phytoplankton blooms provides the basis for global assessments of bloom risks and benefits, and for the formulation or evaluation of management or policy actions.

RESUMO

Himawari-8 aerosol products have been widely used to estimate the near-surface hourly PM2.5 concentrations due to the high temporal resolution. However, most studies focus on the evaluation model. As the foundation of the estimation, the relationship between near-surface PM2.5 and columnar aerosol optical depth (AOD) has not been comprehensively investigated. In this study, we investigate the relationship between PM2.5 and advanced Himawari imager (AHI) AOD for 2016-2018 across mainland China on different spatial and temporal scales and the factors affecting the association. We calculated the Pearson correlation coefficients and the PM2.5/AOD ratio as the analysis indicators in 345 cities and 14 urban agglomerations based on the collocations of PM2.5 and AHI AOD. From 9:00 to 17:00 local time, the PM2.5-AOD correlation become significantly stronger while The PM2.5/AOD ratio markedly decrease in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Chengyu regions. The strongest correlation is between 12:00 and 14:00 LT (at noon) and between 13:00 and 17:00 LT (afternoon), respectively. The ratio in a day shows an obvious unimodal mode, and the peak occurred at around 10:00 or 11:00 LT, especially in autumn and winter. There is a pronounced variation of the PM2.5-AOD relationship in a week during the winter. Moreover, there are the strongest correlation and the largest ratio for most urban agglomerations during the winter. We also find that PM2.5 and AOD are not always correlated under different meteorological conditions and precursor concentrations. Furthermore, for the scattering-dominated fine-mode aerosol, there is a high correlation and a low ratio between PM2.5 and AOD. The correlation between PM2.5 and AHI AOD significantly increases with increasing the number of AOD retrievals on a day. The findings will provide meaningful information and important implications for satellite retrieval of hourly PM2.5 concentration and its exposure estimation in China, especially in some urban agglomerations.

RESUMO

The widespread occurrence of Cyanobacterial blooms (CABs) in inland waters is a typical and severe challenge for water resources management and environment protection. An accurate and spatially continuous risk assessment of CABs is critical for prediction and preparedness in advance. In this study, a multivariate integrated risk assessment (MIRA) method of CABs in inland waters was proposed. MIRA was simplified with the trophic levels, cyanobacterial and other aquatic plant condition using remote sensing indexes, including the Trophic State Index (TSI), Floating Algae Index (FAI) and Cyanobacteria and Macrophytes Index (CMI). First, the dates of risk assessment were carefully selected based on TSI. Then, we obtained the trophic levels, cyanobacterial, and other aquatic plant condition of water using TSI, CMI and FAI on the selected date, and further scored them pixel by pixel to quantify the risk value. Finally, the risk of CABs in water was accurately assessed based on the pixel risk value. Based on Landsat 8 OLI dataset, MIRA was executed and validated in three different lakes of Wuhan urban agglomeration (WUA) with different trophic states. The results demonstrated that the risk of CABs in Lake LongGan was overall higher than that in Lake LiangZi and Lake FuTou. And the risk of CABs in the east part of Lake LongGan was higher than the other parts. Seasonally, the risk level ranking in Lake LiangZi was the highest in summer, while lowest in winter. However, the seasonal risk ranking was spring, summer, autumn, and winter in Lake LongGan. Based on the comparisons with monthly water quality classification data and results of the existing study, including trophic level, ecology risk, and algal extent, the MIRA method was valuable for accurate and spatially continuous identifying the risk of CABs in inland waters with potential eutrophication trends.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To understand the distributions of DNA and neutralizing antibodies of human papillomavirus (HPV)16, 18 in 18-45 year-old women. METHODS: Totally, 1494 women were enrolled through multistage random sampling in Funing, Jiangsu province. Cervical exfoliated cells were collected from them for HPV DNA testing, and serum samples were taken from them for the detection of HPV16, 18 neutralizing antibodies by using pseudovirion-based neutralization assay(PBNA). RESULTS: Among the 1494 women, 28(1.9%) and 188(12.6%) were positive for DNA and neutralizing antibody of HPV16 respectively, and 15(1.0%) and 60(4.0%) were positive for DNA and neutralizing antibody of HPV18, respectively. There were no significant differences in the detection rates of DNA and neutralizing antibody of HPV16, 18 among different age groups. About 16.7% of the women were infected with HPV16, 18, or both. CONCLUSION: In Funing county of Jiangsu province, most women aged 18-45 years has no immunity to HPV16 and 18, indicating that they are appropriate targets for HPV 16/18 vaccination.
