RESUMO

Neuronal signals have emerged as pivotal regulators of group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) that regulate tissue homeostasis and allergic inflammation. The molecular pathways underlying the neuronal regulation of ILC2 responses in lungs remain to be fully elucidated. Here, we found that the abundance of neurotransmitter dopamine was negatively correlated with circulating ILC2 numbers and positively associated with pulmonary function in humans. Dopamine potently suppressed lung ILC2 responses in a DRD1-receptor-dependent manner. Genetic deletion of Drd1 or local ablation of dopaminergic neurons augmented ILC2 responses and allergic lung inflammation. Transcriptome and metabolic analyses revealed that dopamine impaired the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) pathway in ILC2s. Augmentation of OXPHOS activity with oltipraz antagonized the inhibitory effect of dopamine. Local administration of dopamine alleviated allergen-induced ILC2 responses and airway inflammation. These findings demonstrate that dopamine represents an inhibitory regulator of ILC2 responses in allergic airway inflammation.

RESUMO

Ever-growing evidence has revealed that group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) exhibit pleiotropic effects in antihelminth immunity, allergy, tissue protection, and cancer. Currently, the role of ILC2s in cancer is highly controversial regarding the intricate tumor microenvironment (TME), and the tumor-promoting or antitumor immunological mechanisms of ILC2s remain largely unknown. In this study, we report that dopamine receptor 1 (DRD1) restrains ILC2 activity in the TME. DRD1 deficiency promotes ILC2 activation, which irritates eosinophil recruitment and cytotoxic CD8+ T cell expansion during ongoing malignancy. Consequently, DRD1-deficient mice exhibit delayed tumor growth and reduced tumor progression. Furthermore, fenoldopam, a selective DRD1 agonist, restrains the ILC2 response in the TME and aggravates tumor burden in mice. Taken together, our data elaborate that the DRD1 signal acts as an excitatory rheostat in regulating ILC2-dependent antitumor immunity.

RESUMO

We investigate the spatial and doping evolutions of the superconducting properties of trilayer cuprate Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{2}Cu_{3}O_{10+δ} by using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. Both the superconducting coherence peak and gap size exhibit periodic variations with structural supermodulation, but the effect is much more pronounced in the underdoped regime than at optimal doping. Moreover, a new type of tunneling spectrum characterized by two superconducting gaps emerges with increasing doping, and the two-gap features also correlate with the supermodulation. We propose that the interaction between the inequivalent outer and inner CuO_{2} planes is responsible for these novel features that are unique to trilayer cuprates.

RESUMO

We use scanning tunneling microscopy to investigate Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{2}Cu_{3}O_{10+δ} trilayer cuprates from the optimally doped to overdoped regime. We find that the two distinct superconducting gaps from the inner and outer CuO_{2} planes both decrease rapidly with doping, in sharp contrast to the nearly constant T_{C}. Spectroscopic imaging reveals the absence of quasiparticle interference in the antinodal region of overdoped samples, showing an opposite trend to that in single- and double-layer compounds. We propose that the existence of two types of inequivalent CuO_{2} planes and the intricate interaction between them are responsible for these anomalies in trilayer cuprates.

RESUMO

A "fingerprint" of Cooper pairing mediated by collective bosonic excitation mode is the reconstruction of the quasiparticle-density-of-states (DOS) spectrum with an additional "dip-hump" structure located outside the superconducting coherence peak. Here, we report an in situ scanning tunneling spectroscopy study of one-unit-cell (1-UC) FeSe film on a SrTiO3(001) substrate. In the quasiparticle-DOS spectrum, the bosonic excitation mode characterized by the dip-hump structure is detected outside the larger superconducting gap. Statistically, the excitation mode shows an anticorrelation with pairing strength in magnitude and yields an energy scale upper-bounded by twice the superconducting gap. The observation coincides with the characteristics of magnetic resonance in cuprates and iron-based superconductors. Furthermore, the local response of superconducting spectra to magnetically distinct Se defects all exhibits the induced in-gap quasiparticle bound states, indicating an unconventional sign-reversing pairing over the Fermi surface in 1-UC FeSe. These results clarify the magnetic nature of the bosonic excitation mode and reveal a signature of electron-magnetic-excitation coupling in 1-UC FeSe/SrTiO3(001) besides the previously established pairing channel of electron-phonon interaction.

RESUMO

How Cooper pairs form and condense has been the main challenge in the physics of copper-oxide high-temperature superconductors. Great efforts have been made in the 'underdoped' region of the phase diagram, through doping a Mott insulator or cooling a strange metal. However, there is still no consensus on how superconductivity emerges when electron-electron correlations dominate and the Fermi surface is missing. To address this issue, here we carry out high-resolution resonant inelastic X-ray scattering and scanning tunneling microscopy studies on prototype cuprates Bi2Sr2Ca0.6Dy0.4Cu2O8+δ near the onset of superconductivity, combining bulk and surface, momentum- and real-space information. We show that an incipient charge order exists in the antiferromagnetic regime down to 0.04 holes per CuO2 unit, entangled with a particle-hole asymmetric pseudogap. The charge order induces an intensity anomaly in the bond-buckling phonon branch, which exhibits an abrupt increase once the system enters the superconducting dome. Our results suggest that the Cooper pairs grow out of a charge-ordered insulating state, and then condense accompanied by an enhanced interplay between charge excitations and electron-phonon coupling.

RESUMO

The microscopic mechanism for the disappearance of superconductivity in overdoped cuprates is still under heated debate. Here we use scanning tunneling spectroscopy to investigate the evolution of quasiparticle interference phenomenon in Bi2Sr2CuO6+δ over a wide range of hole densities. We find that when the system enters the overdoped regime, a peculiar quasiparticle interference wavevector with arc-like pattern starts to emerge even at zero bias, and its intensity grows with increasing doping level. Its energy dispersion is incompatible with the octet model for d-wave superconductivity, but is highly consistent with the scattering interference of gapless normal carriers. The gapless quasiparticles are mainly located near the antinodes and are independent of temperature, consistent with the disorder scattering mechanism. We propose that a branch of normal fluid emerges from the pair-breaking scattering between flat antinodal bands in the quantum ground state, which is the primary cause for the reduction of superfluid density and suppression of superconductivity in overdoped cuprates.

RESUMO

We use scanning tunneling microscopy to visualize the atomic-scale electronic states induced by a pair of hole dopants in Ca2CuO2Cl2 parent Mott insulator of cuprates. We find that when the two dopants approach each other, the transfer of spectral weight from high energy Hubbard band to low energy in-gap state creates a broad peak and nearly V-shaped gap around the Fermi level. The peak position shows a sudden drop at distance around 4 a0 and then remains almost constant. The in-gap states exhibit peculiar spatial distributions depending on the configuration of the two dopants relative to the underlying Cu lattice. These results shed important new lights on the evolution of low energy electronic states when a few holes are doped into parent cuprates.

RESUMO

Majorana zero modes (MZMs) that obey the non-Abelian statistics have been intensively investigated for potential applications in topological quantum computing. The prevailing signals in tunneling experiments "fingerprinting" the existence of MZMs are the zero-energy bound states (ZEBSs). However, nearly all of the previously reported ZEBSs showing signatures of the MZMs are observed in difficult-to-fabricate heterostructures at very low temperatures and additionally require applied magnetic field. Here, by using in situ scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we detect the ZEBSs upon the interstitial Fe adatoms deposited on two different high-temperature superconducting one-unit-cell iron chalcogenides on SrTiO3(001). The spectroscopic results resemble the phenomenological characteristics of the MZMs inside the vortex cores of topological superconductors. Our experimental findings may extend the MZM explorations in connate topological superconductors toward an applicable temperature regime and down to the two-dimensional (2D) limit.
