RESUMO

Problem-based learning (PBL) is increasingly being used in medical education globally, but its effectiveness in teaching remains controversial. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) is the method of choice for evaluating its effectiveness. The quality of an RCT has a significant effect on this evaluation, but to date we have not seen an assessment of the quality of RCTs for PBL. Two researchers searched MEDLINE and EMBASE for RCTs addressing PBL in medical education. The overall quality of each report was measured on a 28-point overall quality score (OQS) based on the 2010 revised Comprehensive Standards for Reporting and Testing (CONSORT) Statement. Furthermore, to study the key factors affecting OQS more effectively, a linear regression model of those factors was established using SPSS. After literature screening, 30 RCTs were eventually included and analyzed. The median OQS was 15 (range, 7-20), which meant that half of the items in the revised 2010 CONSORT statement were poorly reported in at least 40% of the RCTs analyzed. The regression model showed that the year of publication of RCTs and the impact factors of the journals in which they were published were the main factors affecting OQS. The overall quality of reporting of RCTs on PBL teaching in medical education was not satisfactory. Some RCTs were subjectively selective in reporting certain items, leading to heterogeneity in quality. It is expected that statisticians will develop new standards more suitable for evaluating RCTs related to teaching research and that editors and peer reviewers will be required to review the relevant RCTs more strictly.

RESUMO

Sarcomas are a group of malignant tumors derived from mesenchymal tissues that display complex and variable pathological types. The impact of the immune properties of the tumor microenvironment (TME) on the prognosis, treatment, and management of sarcomas has attracted attention, requiring the exploration of sensitive and accurate signatures. In this study, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database was searched to screen for an RNA sequencing dataset, retrieving 263 sarcoma and 2 normal samples with survival data. Genes associated with immune regulation in sarcomas were retrieved from the Tumor Immune Estimation Resource database to estimate tumor purity and immune cell infiltration levels. The samples were then divided into the immune-high and immune-low groups. Then, we screened for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the two groups. The intersection between immune-related genes and DEGs was then determined. Univariate Cox and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator analyses were used to select ideal genes for prognostic prediction and subsequent construction of a risk signature. A survival analysis was performed to reveal the dissimilarity in survival between the high- and low-score groups. Finally, a nomogram was generated to verify the accuracy and reliability of the signature. Through Estimation of STromal and Immune cells in MAlignant Tumour tissues using Expression (ESTIMATE) analysis, high ESTIMATE, and low tumor purity were significantly associated with a favorable prognosis. Moreover, a total of 5259 DEGs were retrieved, the majority of which were downregulated. In total, 590 immune-associated genes overlapped with the DEGs, among which nine hub genes were identified. Finally, two candidate genes, ACVR2B and NFYA, were identified, based on which a risk signature was constructed. The risk signature constructed in this study is accurate and reliable for the prognostic prediction and phenotyping of sarcomas.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a type of malignant tumor ranking the second in the incidence of primary liver cancer following hepatocellular carcinoma. Both the morbidity and mortality have been increasing in recent years. Small duct type of ICC has potential therapeutic targets. But overall, the prognosis of patients with ICC is usually very poor. METHODS: To search latent therapeutic targets for ICC, we programmatically selected the five most suitable microarray datasets. Then, we made an analysis of these microarray datasets (GSE26566, GSE31370, GSE32958, GSE45001 and GSE76311) collected from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The GEO2R tool was effective to find out differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between ICC and normal tissue. Gene Ontology (GO) function and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were executed using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID) v 6.8. The Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes (STRING) database was used to analyze protein-protein interaction of these DEGs and protein-protein interaction of these DEGs was modified by Cytoscape3.8.2. Survival analysis was performed using Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) online analysis tool. RESULTS: A total of 28 upregulated DEGs and 118 downregulated DEGs were screened out. Then twenty hub genes were selected according to the connectivity degree. The survival analysis results showed that A2M was closely related to the pathogenesis and prognosis of ICC and was a potential therapeutic target for ICC. CONCLUSIONS: According to our study, low A2M expression in ICC compared to normal bile duct tissue was an adverse prognostic factor in ICC patients. The value of A2M in the treatment of ICC needs to be further studied.

RESUMO

With the deepening of medical education reform, the flipped classroom has become a commonly used teaching method. Many randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have shown that flipped classroom combined with problem-based learning improves many students' abilities. It remains unclear whether the design and reports of these RCTs comply with specifications. The aim of this study was to provide a systematic assessment of the quality of RCTs investigating the effectiveness of flipped classroom teaching in medical education. Two investigators searched PUBMED and EMBASE and analyzed 15 filtered RCTs addressing flipped classroom in medical education, published between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2021. The overall reporting quality was assessed using the overall quality score (OQS) according to the 2010 CONSORT statement. The search revealed 15 RCTs closely related to flipped classrooms. After analysis, it appeared that least half of them made no mention of half of the OQS items in the CONSORT 2010 statement. Since the flipped classroom is an emerging teaching method, all the retrieved articles were published after 2016. Furthermore, a number of issues that we considered very important were not adequately addressed in the RCT reports. Although the CONSORT 2010 statement was issued 12 years ago, the quality and content of many RCTs are not satisfactory. Our findings suggest that authors need to make more effort to meet the CONSORT statement requirements.

RESUMO

Aims/Background Blended learning has been a commonly adopted teaching mode in the medical education community in recent years. Many studies have shown that the blended learning mode is superior to the traditional teaching mode. Nonetheless, pinpointing the specific advantages provided by blended teaching methods is challenging, since multiple elements influence their effectiveness. This study aimed to investigate the reliability of the conclusions of published randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on blended learning in medical education by assessing their quality, and to provide suggestions for future related studies. Methods Two investigators searched PUBMED and EMBASE, and assessed RCTs related to medical blended learning published from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2021. The analysis of the overall quality of each report was based on the 2010 consolidated standard of reporting trials (CONSORT) Statement applying a 28-point overall quality score. We also conducted a multivariate assessment including year of publication, region of the trial, journal, impact factor, sample size, and the primary outcome. Results A total of 22 RCTs closely relevant to medical blended learning were eventually selected for study. The results demonstrated that half of the studies failed to explicitly describe at least 34% of the items in the 2010 CONSORT Statement. Medical blended learning is an emerging new teaching mode, with 95.45% of RCTs published since 2010. However, many issues that we consider crucial were not satisfactorily addressed in the selected RCTs. Conclusion Although the 2010 CONSORT Statement was published more than a decade ago, the quality of RCTs remains unsatisfactory. Some important items were inadequately reported in many RCTs such as sample size, blinding, and concealment. We encourage researchers who focus on the effects of blended learning in medical education to incorporate the guidelines in the 2010 CONSORT Statement when designing and conducting relevant research. Researchers, reviewers, and editors also need to work together to improve the quality of relevant RCTs in accordance with the requirements of the 2010 CONSORT Statement.

RESUMO

Background: The relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) inequity and incident age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains unclear. We aim to investigate whether low SES increases the risk of AMD and to explore the effect of a healthy lifestyle on this association. Methods: This prospective cohort study included 316,663 UK Biobank individuals. SES inequity was identified via latent class analysis using education, household income, and occupational status. Healthy lifestyle score was calculated based on smoking, alcohol drinking, and physical activity (PA). Incident AMD was defined according to diagnosis records. Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate the relationship of low SES and AMD. Interrelationships of healthy lifestyle score on SES-AMD association were explored, including modification, mediation, and joint effects. Results: During the average 12.2 years of follow-up, 6,355 AMD cases were diagnosed. Participants with medium SES (hazard ratio: 1.10 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.01 to 1.21]) and low SES (hazard ratio: 1.22 [95% CI 1.11 to 1.34]) had an increased risk of incident AMD compared to participants with high SES. PA significantly affected this association. Moreover, the association between low SES and AMD was significantly mediated (11.3%, 95% CI: 6.56 to 23.0) by smoking. Similarly, alcohol drinking suppressed (9.59%, 95% CI: 4.00 to 23.2) the association between high SES and AMD. Besides, a significant joint effect of SES and healthy lifestyle score was found. Conclusions: We provide further evidence for the relationship of socioeconomic inequity, healthy lifestyle, and incident AMD. Future public health strategies should aim to reduce socioeconomic inequity to prevent AMD.

RESUMO

Background: Low lung function is associated with an increased risk of age-related diseases. However, the relationship between age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness, and lung function remains unclear. We aimed to investigate whether low lung function increases the risk of AMD and the potential mechanisms behind this association. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort analysis of 409 230 UK Biobank participants with completed lung function after excluding individuals with AMD. We used Cox proportional hazards models to estimate the risk of AMD incidence and mediation models to explore potential mechanisms driven by inflammatory markers, erythrocyte-related measures, and metabolites. Results: Overall, 6477 AMD cases were diagnosed across an average of 12.4 years of follow-up. Participants with low lung function had an increased risk of developing AMD compared to those with high lung function (forced vital capacity: adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 1.20 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.07-1.34); forced expiratory volume in one second: aHR = 1.32 (95% CI = 1.18-1.47); peak expiratory flow: aHR = 1.32 (95% CI = 1.20-1.45)). Inflammatory markers and erythrocyte-related measures mediated this relationship, acting as a pathway through which low lung function influenced AMD. The interactions of body mass index (BMI), sex, and smoking were significant and the effect of lung function on AMD was higher in men, obese, and smoking populations. Conclusions: The increased risk of AMD was associated with low lung function, with inflammatory and erythrocyte-related markers mediating this relationship. This suggests that improvements in lung function could reduce the risk of AMD, thereby promoting health and longevity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: As the leading cause of blindness, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) performs an adverse impact on human health and disability. AMD have been reported to be associated with environmental factors; however, the association between ultraviolet (UV) radiation, warm-season ambient ozone pollution, and incident AMD remains unclear. METHODS: In this study, 19,707 participants without AMD at baseline were included from a nationwide longitudinal cohort in China. UV radiation and warm-season ozone exposure were evaluated through satellite-based models. Incident AMD was diagnosed via ophthalmological fundus images. Cox proportional hazard regression models were employed to explore the association of UV radiation and warm-season ozone with incident AMD, and the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) were reported. RESULTS: During 312,935 person-month of follow-up, 3774 participants developed to AMD. High exposure to both UV radiation and warm-season ozone was associated with increasing risk of incident AMD, with HRs and 95 % CIs of 1.32 (1.23, 1.41) and 1.20 (1.11, 1.29) in two-exposure models, respectively. Moreover, negative interaction between UV radiation and warm-season ozone was identified, and it was found that exposure to high UV radiation and low ozone presented the highest hazard for AMD. Subgroup analyses showed that the UV-AMD association was stronger in southern China, while the ozone-AMD association was greater in northern China and rural areas. CONCLUSION: Our study provides the first epidemiological evidence that both UV radiation and warm-season ozone would elevate the risk of incident AMD, and the hazard of higher UV radiation may be attenuated by exposure to ozone. Strategies for decreasing AMD burden should jointly consider environmental exposures and geographic locations.

RESUMO

In many maternal settings, water delivery is widely available for women who do not have an increased risk of complications during childbirth. Soaking in water during labor has been associated with a number of maternal benefits. However, the situation of water birth is not well known, there is lack of hard evidence on safety, and little is known about the characteristics of women who give birth in water. In this paper, we have explored the effects of water delivery compared to the conventional delivery on the health of mothers and babies. For this purpose, clinical trials were conducted including women in labor, in which participants were treated with water labor or conventional labor, respectively, in the experimental and control group. In this analysis, we have selected 17 eligible studies which included 175654 participants. Compared to the conventional birth group, the risk of Apgar score <7 at 5 min of age in the water birth group dropped by 28% (OR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.52-1.00, I 2 = 25%, P=0.05). Also, the duration of labor was shorter the in water birth group whatever the labor stage was. The patients who underwent water birth showed an obviously lower rate of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission (OR = 0.58, 95% CI: 0.39-0.86, I 2 = 53%, P=0.007). In this meta-analysis, it was seen that water delivery has clinical significance in alleviating the pain of mothers, promoting the safety of mothers and infants, and reducing postpartum complications.

RESUMO

This systematic review evaluated the reporting quality of COVID-19 vaccine randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Relevant RCTs published between July 20, 2020 and June 11, 2021 were identified in the PubMed database by two independent reviewers. Study quality was evaluated with the 2010 AND 2001 Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) adherence scores. A total of 22 RCTs were included. The median CONSORT adherence score according to the 2010 criteria was 21 (range, 12-25), thus indicating that 75% of the items in more than half of the RCTs had clear reports. Univariate analysis showed that CONSORT adherence scores were not predicted by category; analysis of variance also showed no significant difference between groups. Our results indicated that the overall quality of COVID-19 vaccine RCTs was very good. Current evidence indicates that a variety of COVID-19 vaccines are effective. No RCTs have reported serious adverse effects such as mortality.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is reported as an aggressive cancer which leads to high mortality and no effective therapeutic target has yet been discovered. Surgical resection is the main method to treat patients with CCA. However, only one-third of CCA patients have the opportunity to accept the operation, leading to poor prognosis for CCA patients. Therefore, it is necessary to search for new therapeutic targets of CCA or core genes involved in the happening and growth of CCA. AIM: In this study, we utilized bioinformatics technology and accessed to several medical databases trying to find the core genes of CCA for the purpose of intervening CCA through figuring out an effective curative target. METHODS: Firstly, three differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were discovered from GEPIA, and by further observing the distribution and gene expression, CHST4 was obtained as the core gene. Afterwards, correlated genes of CHST4 in CCA were identified using UALCAN to construct a gene expression profile. We obtained PPI network by Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Networks Genes (STRING) and screened core genes using cytoscape software. Functional enrichment analyses were carried out and the expression of CHST in human tissues and tumors was observed. Finally, a CCA model was established for qPCR and staining validation. RESULTS: Three differentially expressed genes (DEGs), CHST4, MBOAT4 and RP11-525K10.3, were obtained. All were more over-expressed in CCA samples than the normal, among which the change multiple and the gene expression difference of CHST4 was the most obvious. Therefore, CHST4 was selected as the core gene. We can see in our established protein-protein interaction (PPI) network that CHST4 had the highest degree of connectivity, demonstrating its close association with CCA. We found that genes were mainly enriched in CCs in the PPI networks genes which shows functional enrichment analysis results, including golgi lumen, extracellular space and extracellular region. CHST4 was found very specifically expressed in the bile duct and was significantly different from that in normal tissues. The overexpression of CHST4 was further verified in the established animal model of TAA-induced CCA in rats. Quantitative PCR (qPCR) demonstrated that CHST4 was significantly overexpressed in tumor tissues, verifying the role of CHST4 as the core gene of CCA. CONCLUSION: CHST4 was increasingly expressed in CCA and CHST4 is worth being studied much further in the intervention of CCA.

RESUMO

We study the effect of (2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenyl)alkylamine additives with differing alkyl chain lengths (methyl, ethyl, and n-propyl) on the performance of methylammonium lead triiodide (MAPbI3) perovskite solar cells. The results show that the length of the alkyl chain between the 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenyl group and ammonium moiety has a critical effect on the perovskite film structure and subsequent device performance. The 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenyl ammonium additive with the shortest linking group (a methylene unit), namely (2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenyl)methylammonium iodide, was found to be distributed throughout the bulk of the perovskite film with a 2D phase only being observable at high concentrations (>30 mol%). In contrast, the additives with ethyl and n-propyl linking groups phase-separate during solution processing and are found to concentrate at the surface of the perovskite film. Photoluminescence measurements showed that the fluorinated additives passivated the surface defects on the perovskite grains. Of the three additives, inverted devices containing 0.32 mol% of the 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenyl ammonium additive with the methylene linking group achieved a maximum power conversion efficiency of 22.0%, with the device efficiency decreasing with increasing additive concentration. In contrast, the devices composed of the additive with the longest alkyl linker, 3-(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenyl)propylammonium iodide, had the poorest performance, with PCEs less than that of the neat MAPbI3 control and decreasing with increasing additive concentration.

RESUMO

p-Type inorganic nickel oxide (NiOx) exhibits high transparency, tunable-optoelectronic properties, and a work function (WF) that is potentially suitable for hole extraction in inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, NiOx films possess surface defects that lead to high interfacial recombination and an energy offset with the ionization potential of the perovskite. Herein, we show that fluorinated 3-(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenyl)propan-1-aminium iodide (FPAI) can be used to modify the electronic properties of the NiOx anode interlayer. The FPAI modification led to good perovskite crystal growth and films with reduced surface defects. The FPAI modification also increased the WF of NiOx and improved charge extraction. These improvements led to an increased Voc value compared with control devices without FPAI modification, 1.05 V versus 1.00 V, and a higher short-circuit current and larger fill factor. As a result, the best PSCs with FPAI-modified NiOx had a power conversion efficiency of 19.3%. Finally, the PSCs with the FPAI-modified NiOx layer were found to have improved stability.

RESUMO

The bimolecular recombination characteristics of conjugated polymer poly[(4,4'-bis(2-ethylhexyl)dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]silole)-2,6-diyl-alt-(2,5-bis 3-tetradecylthiophen-2-yl thiazolo 5,4-d thiazole)-2,5diyl] (PDTSiTTz) blended with the fullerene series PC60BM, ICMA, ICBA, and ICTA have been investigated using microsecond and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, in conjunction with electroluminescence measurements and ambient photoemission spectroscopy. The non-Langevin polymer PDTSiTTz allows an inspection of intrinsic bimolecular recombination rates uninhibited by diffusion, while the low oscillator strengths of fullerenes allow polymer features to dominate, and we compare our results to those of the well-known polymer Si-PCPDTBT. Using µs-TAS, we have shown that the trap-limited decay dynamics of the PDTSiTTz polaron becomes progressively slower across the fullerene series, while those of Si-PCPDTBT are invariant. Electroluminescence measurements showed an unusual double peak in pristine PDTSiTTz, attributed to a low energy intragap charge transfer state, likely interchain in nature. Furthermore, while the pristine PDTSiTTz showed a broad, low-intensity density of states, the ICBA and ICTA blends presented a virtually identical DOS to Si-PCPDTBT and its blends. This has been attributed to a shift from a delocalized, interchain highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) in the pristine material to a dithienosilole-centered HOMO in the blends, likely a result of the bulky fullerenes increasing interchain separation. This HOMO localization had a side effect of progressively shifting the polymer HOMO to shallower energies, which was correlated with the observed decrease in bimolecular recombination rate and increased "trap" depth. However, since the density of tail states remained the same, this suggests that the traditional viewpoint of "trapping" being dominated by tail states may not encompass the full picture and that the breadth of the DOS may also have a strong influence on bimolecular recombination.

RESUMO

Pyroptosis, the prototype of programmed cell death, is crucial to the development of multicellular organisms. Lung cancer is one of the most lethal cancers in the world. Because lung cancer progresses quickly, it is mostly found at an advanced stage, resulting in a very poor prognosis of lung cancer. At present, there is no treatment with good prognosis, but pyroptosis-based tumor therapy may be able to solve this problem. In the past few decades, it has been found that pyroptosis can affect the invasion, proliferation, and metastasis of tumor and apoptosis is an important system to resist cancer. Our study is aimed at constructing a prognostic model within pyroptosis-related genes. We developed a prognostic model by using TCGA and GEO database, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. Five genes (NLRP1, NOD1, NLRC4, CASP9, and PLCG1) were identified to construct a prognostic model. According to the median risk score calculated by our formula, we divided patients into the high- and low-risk groups. Pyroptosis-related genes play important roles in tumor immunity and can be used to predict the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).

RESUMO

Background: Skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) is an aggressive malignant skin tumor. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death that may mobilize tumor-infiltrating immunity against cancer. The potential mechanism of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in ferroptosis in SKCM is not clear. In this study, the prognostic and treatment value of ferroptosis-related lncRNAs was explored in SKCM, and a prognostic model was established. Methods: We first explored the mutation state of ferroptosis-related genes in SKCM samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Then, we utilized consensus clustering analysis to divide the samples into three clusters based on gene expression and evaluated their immune infiltration using gene-set enrichment analysis (GSEA) ESTIMATE and single-sample gene-set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) algorithms. In addition, we applied univariate Cox analysis to screen prognostic lncRNAs and then validated their prognostic value by Kaplan-Meier (K-M) and transcripts per kilobase million (TPM) value analyses. Finally, we constructed an 18-ferroptosis-related lncRNA prognostic model by multivariate Cox analysis, and SKCM patients were allocated into different risk groups based on the median risk score. The prognostic value of the model was evaluated by K-M and time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses. Additionally, the immunophenoscore (IPS) in different risk groups was detected. Results: The top three mutated ferroptosis genes were TP53, ACSL5, and TF. The SKCM patients in the cluster C had the highest ferroptosis-related gene expression with the richest immune infiltration. Based on the 18 prognosis-related lncRNAs, we constructed a prognostic model of SKCM patients. Patients at low risk had a better prognosis and higher IPS. Conclusion: Our findings revealed that ferroptosis-related lncRNAs were expected to become potential biomarkers and indicators of prognosis and immunotherapy treatment targets of SKCM.

RESUMO

Efficient and stable perovskite solar cells with a simple active layer are desirable for manufacturing. Three-dimensional perovskite solar cells are most efficient but need to have improved environmental stability. Inclusion of larger ammonium salts has led to a trade-off between improved stability and efficiency, which is attributed to the perovskite films containing a two-dimensional component. Here, we show that addition of 0.3 mole percent of a fluorinated lead salt into the three-dimensional methylammonium lead iodide perovskite enables low temperature fabrication of simple inverted solar cells with a maximum power conversion efficiency of 21.1%. The perovskite layer has no detectable two-dimensional component at salt concentrations of up to 5 mole percent. The high concentration of fluorinated material found at the film-air interface provides greater hydrophobicity, increased size and orientation of the surface perovskite crystals, and unencapsulated devices with increased stability to high humidity.

RESUMO

Organophosphorus (OP)-based nerve agents are extremely toxic and potent acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and recent attacks involving nerve agents highlight the need for fast detection and intervention. Fluorescence-based detection, where the sensing material undergoes a chemical reaction with the agent causing a measurable change in the luminescence, is one method for sensing and identifying nerve agents. Most studies use the simulants diethylchlorophosphate and di-iso-propylfluorophosphate to evaluate the performance of sensors due to their reduced toxicity relative to OP nerve agents. While detection of nerve agent simulants in solution is relatively widely reported, there are fewer reports on vapor detection using solid-state sensors. Herein, progress in organic semiconductor sensing materials developed for solid-state detection of OP-based nerve agent vapors is reviewed. The effect of acid impurities arising from the hydrolysis of simulants and nerve agents on the efficacy and selectivity of the reported sensing materials is also discussed. Indeed, in some cases it is unclear whether it is the simulant that is detected or the acid hydrolysis products. Finally, it is highlighted that while analyte diffusion into the sensing film is critical in the design of fast, responsive sensing systems, it is an area that is currently not well studied.

RESUMO

Multication metal-halide perovskites exhibit desirable performance and stability, compared to their monocation counterparts. However, the study of the photophysical properties and the nature of defect states in these materials is still a challenging and ongoing task. Here, we study bulk and interfacial energy loss mechanisms in solution-processed MAPbI3 (MAPI) and (CsPbI3)0.05[(FAPbI3)0.83(MAPbBr3)0.17]0.95 (triple cation) perovskite solar cells using absolute photoluminescence (PL) measurements. In neat MAPI films, we find a significantly smaller quasi-Fermi level splitting than for the triple cation perovskite absorbers, which defines the open-circuit voltage of the MAPI cells. PL measurements at low temperatures (∼20 K) on MAPI films demonstrate that emissive subgap states can be effectively reduced using different passivating agents, which lowers the nonradiative recombination loss at room temperature. We conclude that while triple cation perovskite cells are limited by interfacial recombination, the passivation of surface trap states within the MAPI films is the primary consideration for device optimization.

RESUMO

This study reports evidence of dispersive transport in planar PbS colloidal quantum dot heterojunction-based devices as well as the effect of incorporating a MoO3 hole selective layer on the charge extraction behavior. Steady state and transient characterization techniques are employed to determine the complex recombination processes involved in such devices. The addition of a selective contact drastically improves the device efficiency up to 3.15% (especially due to increased photocurrent and decreased series resistance) and extends the overall charge lifetime by suppressing the main first-order recombination pathway observed in device without MoO3. The lifetime and mobility calculated for our sulfur-rich PbS-based devices are similar to previously reported values in lead-rich quantum dots-based solar cells. Nevertheless, strong Shockley-Read-Hall mechanisms appear to keep restricting charge transport, as the equilibrium voltage takes more than 1 ms to be established.
