RESUMO

KEY MESSAGE: A novel super compact mutant, scp-3, was identified using map-based cloning in cucumber. The CsDWF7 gene encoding a delta7 sterol C-5(6) desaturase was the candidate gene of scp-3. Mining dwarf genes is important in understanding stem growth in crops. However, only a small number of dwarf genes have been cloned or characterized. Here, we characterized a cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) dwarf mutant, super compact 3 (scp-3), which displays shortened internodes and dark green leaves with a wrinkled appearance. The photosynthetic rate of scp-3 is significantly lower than that of the wild type. The dwarf phenotype of scp-3 mutant can be partially rescued by the exogenous brassinolide (BL) application, and the endogenous brassinosteroids (BRs) levels in the scp-3 mutant were significantly lower compared to the wild type. Microscopic examination revealed that the reduced internode length in scp-3 resulted from a decrease in cell size. Genetic analysis showed that the dwarf phenotype of scp-3 was controlled by a single recessive gene. Combined with bulked segregant analysis and map-based cloning strategy, we delimited scp-3 locus into an 82.5 kb region harboring five putative genes, but only one non-synonymous mutation (A to T) was discovered between the mutant and its wild type in this region. This mutation occurred within the second exon of the CsGy4G017510 gene, leading to an amino acid alteration from Leu156 to His156. This gene encodes the CsDWF7 protein, an analog of the Arabidopsis DWF7 protein, which is known to be involved in the biosynthesis of BRs. The CsDWF7 protein was targeted to the cell membrane. In comparison to the wild type, scp-3 exhibited reduced CsDWF7 expression in different tissues. These findings imply that CsDWF7 is essential for both BR biosynthesis as well as growth and development of cucumber plants.

RESUMO

Electromagnetic micro mirrors are in great demand for light detection and ranging (LiDAR) applications due to their light weight and low power consumption. The driven frequency of electromagnetic micro mirrors is very important to their performance and consumption. An electromagnetic micro mirror system is proposed in this paper. The model of the system was composed of a micro mirror, an integrated piezoresistive (PR) sensor, and a driving circuit was developed. The twisting angle of the mirror edge was monitored by an integrated PR sensor, which provides frequency feedback signals, and the PR sensor has good sensitivity and linearity in testing, with a maximum of 24.45 mV/deg. Stable sinusoidal voltage excitation and frequency tracking was realized via a phase-locked loop (PLL) in the driving circuit, with a frequency error within 10 Hz. Compared with other high-cost solutions using PLL circuits, it has greater advantages in power consumption, cost, and occupied area. The mechanical and piezoresistive properties of micro mirrors were performed in ANSYS 19.2 software. The behavior-level models of devices, circuits, and systems were validated by MATLAB R2023a Simulink, which contributes to the research on the large-angle deflection and low-power-consumption drive of the electromagnetic micro mirror. The maximum optical scan angle reached 37.6° at 4 kHz in the behavior-level model of the micro mirror.

RESUMO

The morphological structure reconstruction and functional recovery of long-distance peripheral nerve injury (PNI) are global medical challenges. Biodegradable nerve scaffolds that provide mechanical support for the growth and extension of neurites are a desired way to repair long-distance PNI. However, the synchrony of scaffold degradation and nerve regeneration is still challenging. Here, a novel bioinspired multichannel nerve guide conduit (MNGC) with topographical cues based on silk fibroin and ε-polylysine modification was constructed. This conduit (SF(A) + PLL MNGC) exhibited sufficient mechanical strength, excellent degradability, and favorable promotion of cell growth. Peripheral nerve repairing was evaluated by an in vivo 10 mm rat sciatic model. In vivo evidence demonstrated that SF(A) + PLL MNGC was completely biodegraded in the body within 4 weeks after providing sufficient physical support and guide for neurite extension, and a 10 mm sciatic nerve defect was effectively repaired without scar formation, indicating a high synchronous effect of scaffold biodegradation and nerve regeneration. More importantly, the regenerated nerve of the SF(A) + PLL MNGC group showed comparable morphological reconstruction and functional recovery to that of autologous nerve transplantation. This work proved that the designed SF(A) + PLL MNGC has potential for application in long-distance PNI repair in the clinic.

RESUMO

Safe and efficient provision of electrical stimulation (ES) for nerve repair and regeneration is a problem that needs to be addressed. In this study, a silk fibroin/poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)/Ti3C2Tx (SF/PVDF-HFP/MXene) composite scaffold with piezoelectricity was developed by electrospinning technology. MXene was loaded to the scaffold to enhance the piezoelectric properties (Output voltage reaches up to 100 mV), mechanical properties, and antibacterial activity. Cell experiments demonstrated piezoelectric stimulation under external ultrasonication for promoting the growth and proliferation of Schwann cells (SCs) cultured on this electrospun scaffold. Further in vivo study with rat sciatic nerve injury model revealed that the SF/PVDF-HFP/MXene nerve conduit could induce the proliferation of SCs, enhance the elongation of axon, and promote axonal myelination. Under the piezoelectric effect of this nerve scaffold, the rats with regenerative nerve exhibited a favorable recovery effect of motor and sensory function, indicating a safe and feasible method of using this SF/PVDF-HFP/MXene piezoelectric scaffold for ES provision in vivo.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC) is a serious obstacle to oncologic treatment. Mountain cultivated ginseng (MCG) exhibits stronger pharmacological effects than cultivated ginseng (CG) mainly due to the differences in ginsenosides. However, the material basis and the underlying mechanism of the protective effects of total saponins of MCG (TSMCG) against DIC are unclear. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to elucidate the material basis and the pharmacodynamic effects of TSMCG on DIC as well as the underlying mechanisms. METHODS: To comprehensively analyze the effective substances, the chemical components of TSMCG and their prototypes or metabolites in vivo were characterized through UHPLC/Q-TOF-MS. Then, an absorbed component-target-disease network was established to explore the mechanisms underlying the protective effects of TSMCG against DIC. H9c2 cells were employed for pharmacodynamic assays. The mechanism was verified by Western blot and molecular docking simulations. RESULTS: A total of 56 main ginsenosides were identified in TSMCG, including 27 ginsenosides of PPD type, 15 ginsenosides of PPT type, two ginsenosides of OA types, and 12 ginsenosides of other types. Moreover, 55 ginsenoside prototypes or metabolites in vivo were tentatively characterized. Ginsenoside Ra1 , a differential compound between MCG and CG, could be metabolized by oxidation and deglycosylation. Network pharmacology showed that AKT1, p53, and STAT3 are core targets of 62 intersecting genes. Molecular docking results indicated that most of the ginsenosides have favorable affinity with these core targets. After doxorubicin exposure, TSMCG could increase cell viability and inhibit apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. CONCLUSION: Our work reveals a novel comprehensive strategy to study the material basis of the protective effects of TSMCG against DIC and the underlying mechanisms through integrating in vivo substance identification, metabolic profiling, network pharmacology, pharmacodynamic evaluation, and mechanism verification.

RESUMO

Sesquizygotic multiple pregnancy is an exceptional intermediate between monozygotic and dizygotic twinning. We report a monochorionic twin pregnancy with fetal sex discordance. Genotyping of amniotic fluid from each sac showed that the twins were maternally identical but chimerically shared 78% of their paternal genome, which makes them genetically in between monozygotic and dizygotic; they are sesquizygotic. We observed no evidence of sesquizygosis in 968 dizygotic twin pairs whom we screened by means of pangenome single-nucleotide polymorphism genotyping. Data from published repositories also show that sesquizygosis is a rare event. Detailed genotyping implicates chimerism arising at the juncture of zygotic division, termed heterogonesis, as the likely initial step in the causation of sesquizygosis.

RESUMO

Wearing surgical or N95 masks is effective in reducing the infection risks of airborne infectious diseases. However, in the literature there are no detailed boundary conditions for airflow from a cough when a surgical or N95 mask is worn. These boundary conditions are essential for accurate prediction of exhaled particle dispersion by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This study first constructed a coughing manikin with an exhalation system to simulate a cough from a person. The smoke visualization method was used to measure the airflow profile from a cough. To validate the setup of the coughing manikin, the results were compared with measured data from subject tests reported in the literature. The validated coughing manikin was then used to measure the airflow boundary conditions for a cough when a surgical mask was worn and when an N95 mask was worn, respectively. Finally, this study applied the developed airflow boundary conditions to calculate person-to-person particle transport from a cough when masks are worn. The calculated exhaled particle patterns agreed well with the smoke pattern in the visualization experiments. Furthermore, the calculated results indicated that, when the index person wore a surgical and a N95 mask, the total exposure of the receptor was reduced by 93.0% and 98.8%, respectively.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the effects on cell proliferation and invasion of the circular RNA hsa_circ_0067582 in gastric cancer(GC). Methods After hsa_circ_0067582 overexpression (Oe-circ_0067582) plasmid was transfected into AGS and SGC-7901 cells, the cell viability, proliferation, invasion ability, and apoptosis were detected by CCK-8,colony formation and EdU assays,Transwell assay, and flow cytometry, respectively.Western blotting was employed to detect the expression levels of proteins related to the cell apoptosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT).The effect of Oe-circ_0067582 on the growth of SGC-7901 cells in nude mice was observed.Bioinformatics tools were used to predict the binding target miRNA of hsa_circ_0067582,and the competing endogenous RNA(ceRNA)regulatory network was established. Finally, functional enrichment was performed to analyze the biological functions of the target genes of the predicted miRNA. Results Compared with the pLO-ciR(empty plasmid)group, the Oe-circ_0067582 group in AGS and SGC-7901 cells attenuated the cell viability(t=7.883,P=0.001;t=5.679,P=0.005),proliferation(t=6.709,P=0.003;t=5.857,P=0.003),and invasion ability(t=7.782,P=0.002;t=6.342,P=0.003)and induced cell apoptosis(t=7.225,P=0.002;t=11.509,P=0.001).Western blotting showed that the Oe-circ_0067582 group in AGS and SGC-7901 cells up-regulated the protein levels of cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase (Caspase) 3(t=6.863,P=0.002;t=7.024,P=0.001),Caspase 7(t=3.295,P=0.04;t=6.008,P=0.004),Caspase 9(t=4.408,P=0.012;t=6.278,P=0.004),and E-cadherin(t=12.453,P=0.002;t=10.867,P=0.001),while down-regulated those of Vimentin(t=7.242,P=0.002;t=5.694,P=0.004)and N-cadherin(t=6.480,P=0.003;t=7.446,P=0.001).Furthermore,Oe-circ_0067582 significantly inhibited the growth of tumor in the SGC-7901 tumor-bearing nude mice(t=3.526,P=0.017).The prediction based on TargetScan and miRnada suggested that hsa_circ_0067582 can competitively bind to hsa-miR-181b-3p,hsa-miR-337-3p,hsa-miR-421,and hsa-miR-548d-3p.The functional enrichment indicated that the target genes of miRNA were involved in multiple cancer-related biological processes including negative regulation of apoptotic process, gene expression, transcriptional misregulation in cancer, transforming growth factor-ß,and p53 signaling pathways. Conclusion Oe-circ_0067582 can inhibit the proliferation and attenuate EMT process to reduce the invasion ability of AGS and SGC-7901 cells, which provides a new target for the treatment of GC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Due to the maternally-inherited nature of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), there is a lack of information regarding fetal mtDNA in the plasma of pregnant women. We aim to explore the presence and topologic forms of circulating fetal and maternal mtDNA molecules in surrogate pregnancies. METHODS: Genotypic differences between fetal and surrogate maternal mtDNA were used to identify the fetal and maternal mtDNA molecules in plasma. Plasma samples were obtained from the surrogate pregnant mothers. Using cleavage-end signatures of BfaI restriction enzyme, linear and circular mtDNA molecules in maternal plasma could be differentiated. RESULTS: Fetal-derived mtDNA molecules were mainly linear (median: 88%; range: 80%-96%), whereas approximately half of the maternal-derived mtDNA molecules were circular (median: 51%; range: 42%-60%). The fetal DNA fraction of linear mtDNA was lower (median absolute difference: 9.8%; range: 1.1%-27%) than that of nuclear DNA (median: 20%; range: 9.7%-35%). The fetal-derived linear mtDNA molecules were shorter than the maternal-derived ones. CONCLUSION: Fetal mtDNA is present in maternal plasma, and consists mainly of linear molecules. Surrogate pregnancies represent a valuable clinical scenario for exploring the biology and potential clinical applications of circulating mtDNA, for example, for pregnancies conceived following mitochondrial replacement therapy.

RESUMO

Cell-free DNA in human plasma is nonrandomly fragmented and reflects genomewide nucleosomal organization. Previous studies had demonstrated tissue-specific preferred end sites in plasma DNA of pregnant women. In this study, we performed integrative analysis of preferred end sites with the size characteristics of plasma DNA fragments. We mined the preferred end sites in short and long plasma DNA molecules separately and found that these "size-tagged" ends showed improved accuracy in fetal DNA fraction estimation and enhanced noninvasive fetal trisomy 21 testing. Further analysis revealed that the fetal and maternal preferred ends were generated from different locations within the nucleosomal structure. Hence, fetal DNA was frequently cut within the nucleosome core while maternal DNA was mostly cut within the linker region. We further demonstrated that the nucleosome accessibility in placental cells was higher than that for white blood cells, which might explain the difference in the cutting positions and the shortness of fetal DNA in maternal plasma. Interestingly, short and long size-tagged ends were also observable in the plasma of nonpregnant healthy subjects and demonstrated size differences similar to those in the pregnant samples. Because the nonpregnant samples did not contain fetal DNA, the data suggested that the interrelationship of preferred DNA ends, chromatin accessibility, and plasma DNA size profile is likely a general one, extending beyond the context of pregnancy. Plasma DNA fragment end patterns have thus shed light on production mechanisms and show utility in future developments in plasma DNA-based noninvasive molecular diagnostics.

RESUMO

Circulating tumor-derived DNA testing for cancer screening has recently been demonstrated in a prospective study on identification of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) among 20,174 asymptomatic individuals. Plasma EBV DNA, a marker for NPC, was detected using real-time PCR. While plasma EBV DNA was persistently detectable in 97.1% of the NPCs identified, ∼5% of the general population had transiently detectable plasma EBV DNA. We hypothesized that EBV DNA in plasma of subjects with or without NPC may have different molecular characteristics. We performed target-capture sequencing of plasma EBV DNA and identified differences in the abundance and size profiles of EBV DNA molecules within plasma of NPC and non-NPC subjects. NPC patients had significantly higher amounts of plasma EBV DNA, which showed longer fragment lengths. Cutoff values were established from an exploratory dataset and tested in a validation sample set. Adopting an algorithm that required a sample to concurrently pass cutoffs for EBV DNA counting and size measurements, NPCs were detected at a positive predictive value (PPV) of 19.6%. This represented superior performance compared with the PPV of 11.0% in the prospective screening study, which required participants with an initially detectable plasma EBV DNA result to be retested within 4 weeks. The observed differences in the molecular nature of EBV DNA molecules in plasma of subjects with or without NPC were successfully translated into a sequencing-based test that had a high PPV for NPC screening and achievable through single time-point testing.

RESUMO

In this paper, we construct rogue wave solutions on the periodic background for the fourth-order nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. First, we consider two types of the Jacobi elliptic function solutions, i.e., dn- and cn-function solutions. Both dn- and cn-periodic waves are modulationally unstable with respect to the long-wave perturbations. Second, on the background of both periodic waves, we derive rogue wave solutions by combining the method of nonlinearization of spectral problem with the Darboux transformation method. Furthermore, by the study of the dynamics of rogue waves, we find that they have the analogs in the standard NLS equation, and the higher-order effects do not have effect on the magnification factor of rogue waves. In addition, when the elliptic modulus approaches 1, rogue wave solutions can reduce to multi-pole soliton solutions in which the interacting solitons form weakly bound states.

RESUMO

Considering the reduction and resource utilization of landfill sludge (LS) and fresh sludge (FS), Fe2+ activated Na2S2O8 is proposed. The effects of the molar ratio of Fe2+/S2O82- and the addition of Na2S2O8 on the dewatering performance of sludge were studied by vacuum filtration experiments. Consolidation tests were conducted on the sludge with different Na2S2O8 dosage, and the compression, consolidation, and permeability characteristics of the sludge were researched. Besides, via particle size distribution (PSD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) test, the variation of particle size of sludge was studied from the microscopic perspective. The results are as follows: the specific resistance of filtration (SRF) of LS and FS decreases by 99.3%, 95.2% at an optimal dosage (the molar ratio of (Fe2+/S2O82-) = 1, 30% Na2S2O8); the particle size of LS and FS is significantly smaller; the consolidation and permeability coefficients are increased by 1-2 orders of magnitude compared with non-conditioned sludge; the water content of LS and FS drops from 86.5% to 58.4%, 82.4%-59.7%. The research results have certain guiding significance for the in-situ treatment of sludge deep dewatering.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There is a high probability of gastroesophageal reflux after laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy for adenocarcinoma of the oesophagogastric junction (AEG). Various anti-reflux anastomotic methods are emerging in clinical practice; however, none of them have been widely accepted. We have innovated a new type of anti-reflux anastomotic method, named semi-embedded valve anastomosis. The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility and anti-reflux effect of the new anastomotic method. METHODS: The clinical data of 28 patients with Siewert II AEG who were treated by semi-embedded valve anastomosis were collected. The key point of the operation is to reconstruct a simulated valve and form an anti-reflux barrier similar to the physiological mechanism. The gastroesophageal reflux disease questionnaire (GerdQ) and classification of gastroesophageal reflux under electron microscopy were used to evaluate gastroesophageal reflux after the operation. RESULTS: The mean operative duration was 164.3 ± 19.0 min, the median intraoperative haemorrhage volume was 65 ml, the average number of lymph nodes dissected was 23 ± 2.6, the time for valve construction was 15.8 ± 3.2 min, the time for anastomotic reconstruction was 35.4 ± 4.8 min, the median time to first flatus was 3 d, and the median hospitalization duration was 12 d. There was one case of postoperative anastomotic stenosis. The GerdQ score [median (range)] was as follows: 2 (0-6), preoperation; 0 (0-8), 1 month postoperation; 2 (0-12), 3 months postoperation; and 3 (0-12), 6 months postoperation. The Wilcoxon signed-rank sum test was carried out at different times after the operation and the day before the operation, and the differences were not significant. There was one case of grade B gastroesophageal reflux according to the Los Angeles classification system among the gastrofibroscopic re-examination reports of 28 cases. CONCLUSION: Semi-embedded valve anastomosis is safe and feasible after proximal gastrectomy for Siewert II AEG and has good anti-reflux effects.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cellular mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is organized as circular, covalently closed and double-stranded DNA. Studies have demonstrated the presence of short mtDNA fragments in plasma. It is not known whether circular mtDNA might concurrently exist with linear mtDNA in plasma. METHODS: We elucidated the topology of plasma mtDNA using restriction enzyme BfaI cleavage signatures on mtDNA fragment ends to differentiate linear and circular mtDNA. mtDNA fragments with both ends carrying BfaI cleavage signatures were defined as circular-derived mtDNA, whereas those with no cleavage signature or with 1 cleavage signature were defined as linear-derived mtDNA. An independent assay using exonuclease V to remove linear DNA followed by restriction enzyme MspI digestion was used for confirming the conclusions based on BfaI cleavage analysis. We analyzed the presence of BfaI cleavage signatures on plasma DNA ends in nonhematopoietically and hematopoietically derived DNA molecules by sequencing plasma DNA of patients with liver transplantation and bone marrow transplantation. RESULTS: Both linear and circular mtDNA coexisted in plasma. In patients with liver transplantation, donor-derived (i.e., liver) mtDNA molecules were mainly linear (median fraction, 91%; range, 75%-97%), whereas recipient-derived (i.e., hematopoietic) mtDNA molecules were mainly circular (median fraction, 88%; range, 77%-93%). The proportion of linear mtDNA was well correlated with liver DNA contribution in the plasma DNA pool (r = 0.83; P value = 0.0008). Consistent data were obtained from a bone marrow transplantation recipient in whom the donor-derived (i.e., hematopoietic) mtDNA molecules were predominantly circular. CONCLUSIONS: Linear and circular mtDNA molecules coexist in plasma and may have different tissue origins.

RESUMO

Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is a nontoxic biological molecule produced in a pineal gland of animals and different tissues of plants. It is an important secondary messenger molecule, playing a vital role in coping with various abiotic and biotic stresses. Melatonin serves as an antioxidant in postharvest technology and enhances the postharvest life of fruits and vegetables. The application of exogenous melatonin alleviated reactive oxygen species and cell damage induced by abiotic and biotic stresses by means of repairing mitochondria. Additionally, the regulation of stress-specific genes and the activation of pathogenesis-related protein and antioxidant enzymes genes under biotic and abiotic stress makes it a more versatile molecule. Besides that, the crosstalk with other phytohormones makes inroads to utilize melatonin against non-testified stress conditions, such as viruses and nematodes. Furthermore, different strategies have been discussed to induce endogenous melatonin activity in order to sustain a plant system. Our review highlighted the diverse roles of melatonin in a plant system, which could be useful in enhancing the environmental friendly crop production and ensure food safety.

RESUMO

The binary Darboux transformation method is applied to the coupled Sasa-Satsuma equations, which can be used to describe the propagation dynamics of femtosecond vector solitons in the birefringent fibers with third-order dispersion, self-steepening, and stimulated Raman scattering higher-order effects. An N-fold iterative formula of the resulting binary Darboux transformation is presented in terms of the quasideterminants. Via the simplest case of this formula, a few of illustrative explicit solutions to the coupled Sasa-Satsuma equations are generated from vanishing and non-vanishing backgrounds, which include the breathers, single- and double-hump bright vector solitons, and anti-dark vector solitons.

Spring viraemia of carp virus (SVCV) is the causative pathogen of the outbreaks of an acute haemorrhagic and contagious viraemia responsible for the significant mortality in several cyprinid species. However, the endocytic pathway(s) and their regulatory molecules have not been characterized for SVCV. Here, using a combination of specific pharmacological inhibitors, transmission electron microscopy, immunofluorescence microscopy and real-time quantitative PCR, we found that SVCV entered grass carp ovary cells via clathrin-mediated endocytosis and macropinocytosis in a low-pH-dependent manner. We also discovered that dynamin II, actin microfilaments and microtubules were essential for SVCV internalization. Moreover, we found that the P21-activated kinase 1 inhibitor IPA-3 and the protein kinase C inhibitor rottlerin could block SVCV cell entry and replication, while phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitors wortmannin and LY294002 could promote SVCV infection. Results presented in this study provide helpful insight into revealing the initial steps of SVCV infection, and they may facilitate the development of therapeutic interventions.

RESUMO

MAIN CONCLUSION: Whole-genome re-sequencing of weedy rice from southern China reveals that weedy rice can originate from hybridization of domesticated indica and japonica rice. Weedy rice (Oryza sativa f. spontanea Rosh.), which harbors phenotypes of both wild and domesticated rice, has become one of the most notorious weeds in rice fields worldwide. While its formation is poorly understood, massive amounts of rice genomic data may provide new insights into this issue. In this study, we determined genomes of three weedy rice samples from the lower Yangtze region, China, and investigated their phylogenetics, population structure and chromosomal admixture patterns. The phylogenetic tree and principle component analysis based on 46,005 SNPs with 126 other Oryza accessions suggested that the three weedy rice accessions were intermediate between japonica and indica rice. An ancestry inference study further demonstrated that weedy rice had two dominant genomic components (temperate japonica and indica). This strongly suggests that weedy rice originated from indica-japonica hybridization. Furthermore, 22,443 novel fixed single nucleotide polymorphisms were detected in the weedy genomes and could have been generated after indica-japonica hybridization for environmental adaptation.

RESUMO

Infectious diseases pose serious threats to public health worldwide. Conventional diagnostic methods for infectious diseases often exhibit low sensitivity, invasiveness, and long turnaround times. User-friendly point-of-care tests are urgently needed for early diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and prognostic prediction of infectious diseases. Cell-free DNA (cfDNA), a promising non-invasive biomarker widely used in oncology and pregnancy, has shown great potential in clinical applications for diagnosing infectious diseases. Here, we discuss the most recent cfDNA research on infectious diseases from both the pathogen and host perspectives. We also discuss the technical challenges in this field and propose solutions to overcome them. Additionally, we provide an outlook on the potential of cfDNA as a diagnostic, treatment, and prognostic marker for infectious diseases.
