RESUMO

Rumen microbial urease inhibitors have been proposed for regulating nitrogen emission and improving nitrogen utilization efficiency in ruminant livestock industry. However, studies on plant-derived natural inhibitors of rumen microbial urease are limited. Urease accessory protein UreG, plays a crucial role in facilitating urease maturation, is a new target for design of urease inhibitor. The objective of this study was to select the potential effective inhibitor of rumen microbial urease from major protoberberine alkaloids in Rhizoma Coptidis by targeting UreG. Our results showed that berberine chloride and epiberberine exerted superior inhibition potential than other alkaloids based on GTPase activity study of UreG. Berberine chloride inhibition of UreG was mixed type, while inhibition kinetics type of epiberberine was uncompetitive. Furthermore, epiberberine was found to be more effective than berberine chloride in inhibiting the combination of nickel towards UreG and inducing changes in the second structure of UreG. Molecular modeling provided the rational structural basis for the higher inhibition potential of epiberberine, amino acid residues in G1 motif and G3 motif of UreG formed interactions with D ring of berberine chloride, while interacted with A ring and D ring of epiberberine. We further demonstrated the efficacy of epiberberine in the ruminal microbial fermentation with low ammonia release and urea degradation. In conclusion, our study clearly indicates that epiberberine is a promising candidate as a safe and effective inhibitor of rumen microbial urease and provides an optimal strategy and suitable feed additive for regulating nitrogen excretion in ruminants in the future. KEY POINTS: • Epiberberine is the most effective inhibitor of rumen urease from Rhizoma Coptidis. • Urease accessory protein UreG is an effective target for design of urease inhibitor. • Epiberberine may be used as natural feed additive to reducing NH3 release in ruminants.

INTRODUCTION: Vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) can be used to modulate gastrointestinal motility, inflammation, and nociception. However, it remains unclear whether VNS is effective in adult patients with functional dyspepsia (FD). We investigated the effectiveness of transcutaneous auricular VNS (taVNS) in patients with FD. METHODS: Consecutive patients with FD meeting Rome IV criteria with modified FD Symptom Diary score ≥10 were enrolled. Patients were randomly allocated to 10-Hz taVNS (V10 group), 25-Hz taVNS (V25 group), or sham group, with 30 minutes of treatment twice a day for 4 weeks. The primary outcome was the response rate at week 4, defined as the proportion of patients whose modified FD Symptom Diary score was reduced ≥5 when compared with the baseline. Secondary outcomes included adequate relief rate and adverse events. RESULTS: A total of 300 patients were randomized to V10 (n = 101), V25 (n = 99), and sham groups (n = 100). After 4 weeks of treatment, V10 and V25 groups had a higher response rate (81.2% vs 75.9% vs 47%, both P < 0.001) and adequate relief rate (85.1% vs 80.8% vs 67%, both P < 0.05) compared with the sham group. There was no significant difference between V10 and V25 in response rate and adequate relief rate (both P > 0.05). The efficacy of taVNS (both 10 and 25 Hz) lasted at week 8 and week 12 during follow-up period. Adverse events were all mild and comparable among the 3 groups (1%-3%). DISCUSSION: Our study firstly showed that 4-week taVNS (both 10 and 25 Hz) was effective and safe for the treatment of adult FD ( clinicaltrials.gov number: NCT04668534).

In recent years, the use of deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) for light field image quality assessment (LFIQA) has gained significant attention. Despite their notable successes, it is widely accepted that training DCNNs heavily depends on a large amount of annotated data. Additionally, convolutional network-based LFIQA methods show a limitation in capturing long-range dependencies. Unfortunately, LFIQA is essentially a typical small-sample problem, leading to existing DCNN-based LFIQA metrics requiring data augmentation but with unsatisfactory performance. To address these issues, this study proposes utilizing the self-attention capability of the Swin Transformer to efficiently capture spatial-angular information while employing meta-learning for small-sample learning in the LFIQA task. Specifically, a collection of LFIQA tasks is gathered, representing different distortions. Then, meta-learning is employed to acquire shared prior knowledge across diverse distortions. Finally, the quality prior model is fine-tuned on a target LFIQA task to obtain the final LFIQA model quickly. Experimental results show that the proposed LFIQA metric achieves high consistency with subjective scores, and outperforms several state-of-the-art LFIQA approaches.

Thallium (Tl) is a rare and extremely toxic metal whose toxicity is significantly higher than cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) and antimony (Sb). The extensive utilization of Tl-bearing minerals, such as mining activities, has led to severe Tl pollution in a variety of natural settings, while little is known to date about its effect on the microbial diversity in paddy soils. Also, the geochemical behavior of Tl in the periodical alterations between dry and wet conditions of paddy soils remains largely unknown. Herein, the sequential extraction method and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis were adopted to analyze Tl's migration and transformation behavior and the microbial diversity in the paddy soils with different pollution levels. The results indicated that Tl was mainly concentrated in reducible fraction, which is different from other types of soils, and may be closely attributed to the abundance of Fe-Mn (hydr)oxides in the paddy rhizospheric soils. Further analysis revealed that pH, total S, Pb, Sb, Tl and Cd were the dominant environmental factors, and the enrichment level of these potentially toxic metal(loid)s (PTMs) exerted obvious impacts on the diversity and abundance of microorganism in the rhizospheric soils, and regulating microbial community. The geochemical fractionation of Tl was closely correlated to soil microorganisms such as Fe reducing bacteria (Geothrix) and sulfate reducing bacteria (Anaerolinea), playing a critical role in Tl geochemical cycle through redox reaction. Hence, further study on microorganisms of paddy rhizospheric soils is of great significance to the countermeasures for remediating Tl-polluted paddy fields and protect the health of residents.

Lithium metal is an ideal electrode material for future rechargeable batteries. However, dendrite formation and unstable solid electrolyte interphase film lead to safety concerns and poor Coulombic efficiency (CE). LiNO3 significantly improves the performance of the lithium metal anode in ester electrolytes but its use is restricted by low solubility. To increase the content of LiNO3 in the cell, a poly-(vinyl carbonate) organogel interlayer containing dissociated LiNO3 (LNO-PVC) is placed between the cathode and anode. The dissociated LiNO3 effectively increases the LiNO3 -release rate and compensates for the LiNO3 consumed in ester electrolytes during cycling. Via this interlayer, the performance of the lithium metal anode is significantly improved. The average CE of a Li-Cu cell reaches 98.6% at 0.5 mA cm-2 -1 h and 98.5% at 1 mA cm-2 -1 h for 300 cycles. Also, a Li||NCM811 pouch cell with LNO-PVC interlayer can also reach a 400 Wh kg-1 energy density with a cycling life of 65 cycles. This strategy sheds light on the effect of the state of this salt on its release/dissolution kinetics, which is determined by the interactions between the salt and host material.

Searching for Pt-like activity, stable and economic electrocatalysts that can function at various pH values for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is under increasing interest for the scientific community as H2 is a very promising energy carrier with great potential development value for renewable energy conversion. Herein, a unique self-supported heterostructure of RuO2 -RuP2 /Ru on the N, P co-doped carbon matrix (Ru-HMT-MP-7) is demonstrated, which is derived from HMT-based coordination polymers as superior pH-universal electrocatalysts. In the strategy, pyrolysis and phosphating processes are simultaneously proceeded that can produce the unique heterostructure containing three phases of RuO2 , RuP2, and Ru, at the same time the generated RuO2 -RuP2 /Ru can be highly dispersed on the self-assembly N, P co-doped carbon substrates. The resulting heterostructure Ru-HMT-MP-7 exhibits excellent activity superior to that of benchmark Pt/C with low overpotentials at 10 mA cm-2 (33 mV for 1.0 M KOH, 29 mV for 0.5 M H2 SO4 and 86 mV for 1.0 M PBS) and long-term electrocatalysis durability toward HER at various pH values. The rational construction strategy paves a novel avenue for obtaining superior pH-universal catalysts for electrochemical energy storage and conversion.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs) targeting PD1 are highly active in relapsed/refractory classical Hodgkin lymphoma. A plethora of recent studies, often small and non-randomised, have raised many questions about how to optimally integrate these into clinical practice. We aim to discuss the use of CPIs in different relapsed/refractory settings in an effort to better define their role and highlight areas of research. RECENT FINDINGS: CPIs have shown efficacy at first relapse, as salvage pre- and post-autologous (ASCT) and allogeneic stem cell transplant (alloSCT) and as maintenance post-ASCT. Immune-related adverse events require careful attention, especially when used peri-alloSCT, where it is associated with hyperacute graft-versus-host disease. Newer PD1 inhibitors, as well as strategies to overcome CPI resistance, are being tested. CPIs are increasingly deployed at earlier points in the classical Hodgkin lymphoma pathway. Whilst progress is clearly being made, randomised studies are required to more clearly define the optimal positioning of these agents.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Functional dyspepsia symptom diary (FDSD) is a newly designed questionnaire of functional dyspepsia (FD). The relationships between FDSD and other FD-related questionnaires and patient-reported severity remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the correlations between FDSD and other questionnaires and to determine the relationships between FDSD and FD severity. METHODS: Consecutive outpatients with FD were prospectively enrolled in four tertiary hospitals. All patients were evaluated by six FD-related questionnaires, including FDSD, Dyspepsia Symptom Severity Index (DSSI), Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale, Short-Form Nepean Dyspepsia Index, and Hamilton Depression and Anxiety Scale (HAMD and HAMA). The severity of FD was also graded as mild, moderate, and severe by patients themselves. Correlations between different scores were assessed by Spearman correlation coefficient (ρ), and risk factors for patient-reported severity were identified. RESULTS: For 512 enrolled FD patients, the overall median FDSD score was 19 (2-42). FDSD was well correlated with DSSI (ρ = 0.64) and fairly correlated with the other four scores (ρ = 0.32-0.55) (all P < 0.001). Mild, moderate, and severe FD were reported by 18.5%, 55.9%, and 25.6% of patients, respectively. There were seven factors associated with the severe FD, including education level, duration, and subtypes of FD, prior treatment, FDSD, HAMD, and HAMA scores (all P < 0.10). FDSD ≥ 20 (odds ratio [OR] 3.3, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.0-5.2, P < 0.001) and HAMD ≥ 13 (OR 2.9, 95% CI: 1.8-4.6, P < 0.001) were independently associated with patient-reported severe FD. CONCLUSIONS: This study firstly revealed that the newly developed FDSD correlated with other FD-related questionnaires. FDSD ≥ 20 and HAMD ≥ 13 were independently associated with severe FD reported by patients (clinicaltrials.gov number: NCT04953975).

Image super resolution (SR) is an important image processing technique in computer vision to improve the resolution of images and videos. In recent years, deep convolutional neural network (CNN) has made significant progress in the field of image SR; however, the existing CNN-based SR methods cannot fully search for background information in the measurement of feature extraction. In addition, in most cases, different scale factors of image SR are assumed to be different assignments and completed by training different models, which does not meet the actual application requirements. To solve these problems, we propose a multi-scale learning wavelet attention network (MLWAN) model for image SR. Specifically, the proposed model consists of three parts. In the first part, low-level features are extracted from the input image through two convolutional layers, and then a new channel-spatial attention mechanism (CSAM) block is concatenated. In the second part, CNN is used to predict the highest-level low-frequency wavelet coefficients, and the third part uses recursive neural networks (RNN) with different scales to predict the wavelet coefficients of the remaining subbands. In order to further achieve lightweight, an effective channel attention recurrent module (ECARM) is proposed to reduce network parameters. Finally, the inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) is used to reconstruct HR image. Experimental results on public large-scale datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model in terms of quantitative indicators and visual effects.

Regulation of microbial urease activity plays a crucial role in improving the utilization efficiency of urea and reducing nitrogen emissions to the environment for ruminant animals. Dealing with the diversity of microbial urease and identifying highly active urease as the target is the key for future regulation. However, the identification of active urease in the rumen is currently limited due to large numbers of uncultured microorganisms. In the present study, we describe an activity- and enrichment-based metaproteomic analysis as an approach for the discovery of highly active urease from the rumen microbiota of cattle. We conducted an optimization method of protein extraction and purification to obtain higher urease activity protein. Cryomilling was the best choice among the six applied protein extraction methods (ultrasonication, bead beating, cryomilling, high-pressure press, freeze-thawing, and protein extraction kit) for obtaining protein with high urease activity. The extracted protein by cryomilling was further enriched through gel filtration chromatography to obtain the fraction with the highest urease activity. Then, by using SDS-PAGE, the gel band including urease was excised and analyzed using LC-MS/MS, searching against a metagenome-derived protein database. Finally, we identified six microbial active ureases from 2225 rumen proteins, and the identified ureases were homologous to those of Fibrobacter and Treponema. Moreover, by comparing the 3D protein structures of the identified ureases and known ureases, we found that the residues in the ß-turn of flap regions were nonconserved, which might be crucial in influencing the flexibility of flap regions and urease activity. In conclusion, the active urease from rumen microbes was identified by the approach of activity- and enrichment-based metaproteomics, which provides the target for designing a novel efficient urease inhibitor to regulate rumen microbial urease activity.

Twenty-five to thirty per cent of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) presents as limited stage (I-II). Prognosis is generally excellent with four to six cycles of R-CHOP alone (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin, prednisolone) or combined-modality therapy with three or four cycles and involved-site radiotherapy (RT). There is growing interest in optimising algorithms to retain disease control whilst minimising long-term toxicity, with several recent studies focusing on the safety of abbreviating chemotherapy and omitting RT in low-risk patients and the utility of PET-based response-adapted approaches. As these studies are limited to younger patients without risk factors, application of similar approaches in elderly or higher-risk patients is hampered by a lack of evidence. Whilst there has been a move away from using RT in low-risk patients, it remains a useful adjunct in specific situations. Current evidence cannot exclude a clinically meaningful benefit from RT even in low-risk patients and, given the low expected toxicity from modern RT techniques, a risk-benefit assessment should be individualised and considered in a multidisciplinary fashion. The optimal approach for extranodal limited-stage DLBCL (~40% of cases) varies according to site of origin. Herein we discuss the latest clinical trial evidence and how this can be applied in routine practice.

Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline medium is currently under scientific spotlight for generating clean H2 fuel from electrochemical water splitting. However, alkaline HER suffers from sluggish reaction kinetics because of the additional energy required for water dissociation from catalysts in contrast to acidic HER. Herein, we report the development of two-dimensional metal-organic framework (2D MOF) Ni-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid-based composite nanosheets for superior performance in HER electrocatalysis. Iron phthalocyanine (FePc) molecules are uniformly anchored on the ultrathin 2D Ni-MOF, showing a substantially increased current density, improved activity, and enhanced durability in alkaline HER. On account of the ultralarge specific surface of Ni-MOF and the coupling effects between FePc and 2D MOFs, the resultant nanosheet catalyst FePc@Ni-MOF exhibits a low overpotential (334 mV) and satisfactory long-term stability (10 h) at a current density of 10 mA·cm-2, which outperform those of pristine FePc, Ni-MOF, and the counterpart FePc@bulk-MOF. This study provides new insights into the synthesis of robust MOF-based nanosheet composites with high performance in catalysis.

Inhibition of ruminal microbial urease is of particular interest due to its crucial role in regulating urea-N utilization efficiency and nitrogen pollution in the livestock industry. Acetohydroxamic acid (AHA) is currently the only commercially available urease inhibitor, but it has adverse side effects. The urease accessory protein UreG, which facilitates the functional incorporation of the urease nickel metallocentre, has been proposed in developing urease inhibitor through disrupting urease maturation. The objective of this study was to screen natural compounds as potential urease inhibitors by targeting UreG in a predominant ruminal microbial urease. In silico screening and in vitro tests for potential inhibitors were performed using molecular docking and an assay for the GTPase activity of UreG. Chelerythrine chloride was selected as a potential urease inhibitor of UreG with an inhibition concentration IC50 value of 18.13 µM. It exhibited mixed inhibition, with the Ki value being 26.28 µM. We further explored its inhibition mechanism using isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, and we found that chelerythrine chloride inhibited the binding of nickel to UreG and induced changes in the secondary structure, especially the α-helix and ß-sheet of UreG. Chelerythrine chloride formed a pi-anion interaction with the Asp41 residue of UreG, which is an important residue in initiating the conformational changes of UreG. In conclusion, chelerythrine chloride exhibited a potential inhibitory effect on urease, which provided new evidence for strategies to develop novel urease inhibitors targeting UreG to reduce nitrogen excretion from ruminants.

Two organoselenium compounds, both of which were modified with two primary amine groups, were designed and synthesized to mimic the catalytic properties of glutathione peroxidase (GPx). It was demonstrated that the catalytic mechanism of the diselenide organoselenium compound (compound 1) was a ping-pong mechanism while that of the selenide organoselenium compound (compound 2) was a sequential mechanism. The pH-controlled switching of the catalytic activities was achieved by controlling the formation and dissociation of the pseudorotaxanes based on the organoselenium compounds and cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6]). Moreover, the switching was reversible at pH between 7 and 9 for compound 1 or between 7 and 10 for compound 2.

BACKGROUND: Beta-blockers are commonly used in the treatment of hypertension. We do not know whether the blood pressure (BP) lowering efficacy of beta-blockers varies across the day. This review focuses on the subclass of beta-blockers with partial agonist activity (BBPAA). OBJECTIVES: To assess the degree of variation in hourly BP lowering efficacy of BBPAA over a 24-hour period in adults with essential hypertension. SEARCH METHODS: The Cochrane Hypertension Information Specialist searched the following databases for relevant studies up to June 2020: the Cochrane Hypertension Specialised Register; CENTRAL; 2020, Issue 5; MEDLINE Ovid; Embase Ovid; the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform; and ClinicalTrials.gov. We also contacted authors of relevant papers regarding further published and unpublished work. The searches had no language restrictions. SELECTION CRITERIA: We sought to include all randomised and non-randomised trials that assessed the hourly effect of BBPAA by ambulatory monitoring, with a minimum follow-up of three weeks. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Two review authors independently selected the included trials and extracted the data. We assessed the certainty of the evidence using the GRADE approach. Outcomes included in the review were end-point hourly systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP) and heart rate (HR), measured using a 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM) device. MAIN RESULTS: Fourteen non-randomised baseline controlled trials of BBPAA met our inclusion criteria, but only seven studies, involving 121 participants, reported hourly ambulatory BP data that could be included in the meta-analysis. Beta-blockers studied included acebutalol, pindolol and bopindolol. We judged most studies at high or unclear risk of bias for selection bias, attrition bias, and reporting bias. We judged the overall certainty of the evidence to be very low for all outcomes. We analysed and presented data by each hour post-dose. Very low-certainty evidence showed that hourly mean reduction in BP and HR visually showed an attenuation over time. Over the 24-hour period, the magnitude of SBP lowering at each hour ranged from -3.68 mmHg to -17.74 mmHg (7 studies, 121 participants), DBP lowering at each hour ranged from -2.27 mmHg to -9.34 mmHg (7 studies, 121 participants), and HR lowering at each hour ranged from -0.29 beats/min to -10.29 beats/min (4 studies, 71 participants). When comparing between three 8-hourly time intervals that correspond to day, evening, and night time hours, BBPAA was less effective at lowering BP and HR at night, than during the day and evening. However, because we judged that these outcomes were supported by very low-certainty evidence, further research is likely to have an important impact on the estimate of effect and may change the conclusion. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: There is insufficient evidence to draw general conclusions about the degree of variation in hourly BP-lowering efficacy of BBPAA over a 24-hour period, in adults with essential hypertension. Very low-certainty evidence showed that BBPAA acebutalol, pindolol, and bopindolol lowered BP more during the day and evening than at night. However, the number of studies and participants included in this review was very small, further limiting the certainty of the evidence. We need further and larger trials, with accurate recording of time of drug intake, and with reporting of standard deviation of BP and HR at each hour.

Inhibition of the urease activity of ruminal microbiota is not only beneficial for increasing dietary and endogenic urea-N utilization efficiency in ruminants but also might be applicable for the preservation of nitrogen fertilizer in soil and treatment of gastrointestinal and urinary tract infections caused by ureolytic bacteria. To discover urease inhibitors to efficiently target ruminal microbiota, the identified ruminal microbial metagenomic urease gene was used to construct a homology model to virtually screen urease inhibitors from the ChemDiv database by molecular docking. The GMQE and QMEAN values of the homology model were 0.85 and -0.37, respectively, indicating a good model quality. The inhibition effect of the screened urease inhibitor for ruminal urea degradation was assessed by ruminal microbial fermentation in vitro. The toxic effect of the candidate inhibitor was performed using gut Caco-2 cells in vitro. The results showed that compound 3-[1-[(aminocarbonyl)amino]-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-pyrrol-2-yl] propanoic acid (ChemDiv_ID: 6238-0047, IC50 = 65.86 µM) was found to be the most effective urease inhibitor among the candidate compounds. Compound 6238-0047 significantly lowered the amount of urea degradation and ammonia production in ruminal microbial fermentation. The 24 h degradation rate of compound 6238-0047 in ruminal microbial fermentation was 3.32%-16.00%. In addition, compound 6238-0047 (10-100 µM) had no significant adverse effect on the cell viability of Caco-2 cells. Molecular docking showed that compound 6238-0047 could interact with Asp359 in the active site and Cys318 in the flap region by the hydrogen bond and Pi-Alkyl interaction, respectively. Compound 6238-0047 could be used as a novel inhibitor for decreasing the urease activity of ruminal microbiota.

Cellular retinoic acid-binding protein 1 (CRABP1) is highly expressed in motor neurons. Degenerated motor neuron-like MN1 cells are engineered by introducing SODG93A or AR-65Q to model degenerated amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or spinal bulbar muscular atrophy neurons. Retinoic acid (RA)/sonic hedgehog (Shh)-induced embryonic stem cells differentiation into motor neurons are employed to study up-regulation of Crabp1 by Shh. In SODG93A or AR-65Q MN1 neurons, CRABP1 level is reduced, revealing a correlation of motor neuron degeneration with Crabp1 down-regulation. Up-regulation of Crabp1 by Shh is mediated by glioma-associated oncogene homolog 1 (Gli1) that binds the Gli target sequence in Crabp1's neuron-specific regulatory region upstream of minimal promoter. Gli1 binding triggers chromatin juxtaposition with minimal promoter, activating transcription. Motor neuron differentiation and Crabp1 up-regulation are both inhibited by blunting Shh with Gli inhibitor GANT61. Expression data mining of ALS and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) motor neurons shows reduced CRABP1, coincided with reduction in Shh-Gli1 signaling components. This study reports motor neuron degeneration correlated with down-regulation in Crabp1 and Shh-Gli signaling. Shh-Gli up-regulation of Crabp1 involves specific chromatin remodeling. The physiological and pathological implication of this regulatory pathway in motor neuron degeneration is supported by gene expression data of ALS and SMA patients.

BACKGROUND: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) is a risk factor for exacerbating the outcome of critically ill patients. Dysbiosis induced by the exposure to antibiotics reveals the potential therapeutic role of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in these patients. Herein, we aimed to evaluate the safety and potential benefit of rescue FMT for AAD in critically ill patients. METHODS: A series of critically ill patients with AAD received rescue FMT from Chinese fmtBank, from September 2015 to February 2019. Adverse events (AEs) and rescue FMT success which focused on the improvement of abdominal symptoms and post-ICU survival rate during a minimum of 12 weeks follow-up were assessed. RESULTS: Twenty critically ill patients with AAD underwent rescue FMT, and 18 of them were included for analysis. The mean of Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II scores at intensive care unit (ICU) admission was 21.7 ± 8.3 (range 11-37). Thirteen patients received FMT through nasojejunal tube, four through gastroscopy, and one through enema. Patients were treated with four (4.2 ± 2.1, range 2-9) types of antibiotics before and during the onset of AAD. 38.9% (7/18) of patients had FMT-related AEs during follow-up, including increased diarrhea frequency, abdominal pain, increased serum amylase, and fever. Eight deaths unrelated to FMT occurred during follow-up. One hundred percent (2/2) of abdominal pain, 86.7% (13/15) of diarrhea, 69.2% (9/13) of abdominal distention, and 50% (1/2) of hematochezia were improved after FMT. 44.4% (8/18) of patients recovered from abdominal symptoms without recurrence and survived for a minimum of 12 weeks after being discharged from ICU. CONCLUSION: In this case series studying the use of FMT in critically ill patients with AAD, good clinical outcomes without infectious complications were observed. These findings could potentially encourage researchers to set up new clinical trials that will provide more insight into the potential benefit and safety of the procedure in the ICU. Mg batteries are a promising energy storage system because of the physicochemical merits of Mg as an anode material. However, the lack of electrochemically and chemically stable Mg electrolytes impedes the development of Mg batteries. In this study, a newly designed chloride-free Mg perfluorinated pinacolatoborate, Mg[B(O2 C2 (CF3 )4 )2 ]2 (abbreviated as Mg-FPB), was synthesized by a convenient method from commercially available reagents and fully characterized. The Mg-FPB electrolyte delivered outstanding electrochemical performance, specifically, 95 % Coulombic efficiency and 197 mV overpotential, enabling reversible Mg deposition, and an anodic stability of up to 4.0 V vs. Mg. The Mg-FPB electrolyte was applied to assemble a high voltage, rechargeable Mg/MnO2 battery with a discharge capacity of 150 mAh g-1 .
