RESUMO

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been explored for analytical applications because of their outstanding properties such as high surface areas, flexibility and specific structure features, especially for chromatography application in recent years. In this work, a chiral MOF Ni(D-cam)(H2O)2 with unusual integration of molecular chirality, absolute helicity, and 3-D intrinsic chiral net was chosen as stationary phase to prepare Ni(D-cam)(H2O)2-coated open tubular columns for high-resolution gas chromatographic (GC) separation. Two fused-silica open tubular columns with different inner diameters and lengths, including column A (30 m × 250 µm i.d.) and column B (2 m × 75 µm i.d.), were prepared via a dynamic coating method. The chromatographic properties of the two columns were investigated using n-dodecane as the analyte at 120 °C. The number of theoretical plates (plates/m) of the two metal-organic framework (MOF) columns was 1300 and 2750, respectively. The racemates, isomer and linear alkanes mixture were used as analytes for evaluating the separation properties of Ni(D-cam)(H2O)2-coated open tubular columns. The results showed that the columns offered good separations of isomer and linear alkanes mixture, especially racemates.

RESUMO

Background & aims: Existing evidence on the possible effects of probiotics on obese or overweight adolescents has not been fully established. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the effects of probiotic supplementation on anthropometric indices, inflammatory markers and metabolic indices in obese or overweight adolescents. Methods: The literature up to March 2023 related to probiotic intervention in obese or overweight adolescents was searched and screened from multiple databases, including the CNKI(China national knowledge infrastructure), CBM(Chinese biomedical literature database), PubMed, EmBase, and Cochrane library databases. All randomized controlled trials using probiotic supplements in obese or overweight adolescents were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Results: A total of 8 studies that met the inclusion criteria were included in this study. There were 201 cases in the experimental group (probiotic treatment) and 190 cases in the control group. Compared to the control group, probiotic intervention in adolescents resulted in a decrease in body mass index, fasting blood glucose and C-reactive protein with WMD(Weighted mean difference) and 95% CI of -2.53 (-4.8 to -0.26) kg/m2, -0.80 (-1.13 to -0.47) mol/L and -0.24 (-0.43 to -0.05) mg/L, respectively. No significant changes were found in weight, waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, insulin, Homeostatic Model Assessment of insulin resistance, interleukin 6, tumor necrosis factor alpha and so on; however, an unfavorable elevated effect in total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoproteins was detected with WMD and 95% CI of 0.06 (0.02 to 0.09) mmol/L, 0.18 (0.14 to 0.21) mmol/L, and 0.19 (0.18 to 0.20) mmol/L, respectively. Conclusion: According to our results, probiotic supplementation was beneficial in managing metabolic indicators such as fasting blood glucose, body mass index and inflammation-related C-reactive protein in overweight or obese adolescents. Further large scale studies are warranted to confirm present findings and to identify the effects and mechanisms to provide more precise evidence for clinical intervention. RESUMO

Manganese-based compounds, especially manganese oxides, are one of the most exceptional electrode materials. Specifically, manganese oxides have gained significant interest owing to their unique crystal structures, high theoretical capacity, abundant natural availability and eco-friendly nature. However, as transition metal semiconductors, manganese oxide possess low electrical conductivity, limited rate capacity, and suboptical cycle stability. Thus, combining manganese oxides with carbon or other metallic materials can significantly improve their electrochemical performance. These composites increase active sites and conductivity, thereby improving electrode reaction kinetics, cycle stability, and lifespan of supercapacitors (SCs) and batteries. This paper reviews the latest applications of Mn-based cathodes in SCs and advanced batteries. Moreover, the energy storage mechanisms were also proposed. In this review, the development prospects and challenges for advanced energy storage applications of Mn-based cathodes are summarized.

RESUMO

Background: An important factor in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is chronic low-grade inflammation. However, the exact pathophysiology of PCOS is currently unknown, which makes clinical diagnosis and the development of effective treatments more difficult. We aimed to investigate the role of the inflammatory response in initiating and progressing PCOS. Methods: 13 control granulosa cell samples and 15 granulosa cell samples from patients with PCOS were obtained from the GSE102293, GSE34526, and GSE5850 datasets. The gene set variation analysis (GSVA) method was used to calculate the inflammatory response score. Subsequently, the genes associated with inflammation in the hub were identified using differential expression analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). The findings were confirmed by analysis of independent datasets and examination of clinical samples by qRT-PCR analysis. A consensus cluster analysis was conducted to categorize the PCOS samples into subtypes related to inflammation. Functional enrichment and analysis of immune cell infiltration were conducted to explore the potential mechanisms involved. Additionally, the CMap database was utilized to predict potential drugs, and the results were confirmed through molecular docking. Results: During the training cohort analysis, we identified five distinct genes (TGFBR2, ICAM3, WIPF1, SLC11A1, and NCF2) that could serve as potential diagnostic markers for PCOS. The expression levels of these genes were confirmed through validation in both the test set and clinical samples. In training cohort, two distinct inflammatory patterns (C1 and C2) were identified, and the C2 subtype exhibited activated immune- and inflammation-related pathways. Esmolol was shown to have potential as a drug to treat PCOS and it showed good results for molecular binding at TGFBR2, ICAM3, WIPF1, SLC11A1, and NCF2 proteins. Conclusion: Five diagnostic biomarkers and two inflammation-related molecular types associated with PCOS were identified, and esmolol was a potential drug for PCOS treatment. Our findings provided new diagnostic markers and potential small-molecule drugs for PCOS diagnosis and prevention.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) represents a major cause of heart failure and a large medical burden worldwide. This study screened the potentially regulatory targets of DCM and analyzed their roles in high glucose (HG)-induced cardiomyocyte injury. METHODS: Through GEO database, we obtained rat DCM expression chips and screened differentially expressed genes. Rat cardiomyocytes (H9C2) were induced with HG. 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutarylcoenzyme A synthase 2 (Hmgcs2) and microRNA (miR)-363-5p expression patterns in cells were measured by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction or Western blot assay, with the dual-luciferase assay to analyze their binding relationship. Then, 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide assay, lactate dehydrogenase assay, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling assay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and various assay kits were applied to evaluate cell viability, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, inflammation responses, and oxidative burden. RESULTS: Hmgcs2 was the vital hub gene in DCM. Hmgcs2 was upregulated in HG-induced cardiomyocytes. Hmgcs2 downregulation increased cell viability, decreased TUNEL-positive cell number, reduced HG-induced inflammation and oxidative stress. miR-363-5p is the upstream miRNA of Hmgcs2. miR-363-5p overexpression attenuated HG-induced cell injury. CONCLUSIONS: Hmgcs2 had the most critical regulatory role in DCM. We for the first time reported that miR-363-5p inhibited Hmgcs2 expression, thereby alleviating HG-induced cardiomyocyte injury.

RESUMO

Compared with liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis, the diversity of gas chromatography chiral stationary phases is rather limited. Here, we report the fabrication of Co(D-Cam)1/2(bdc)1/2(tmdpy) (D-Cam = D-camphoric acid; bdc = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate; tmdpy = 4,4'-trimethylenedipyridine)-coated open tubular columns for high-resolution gas chromatographic separation of compounds. The Co(D-Cam)1/2(bdc)1/2(tmdpy) compound possesses a 3-D framework containing enantiopure building blocks embedded in intrinsically chiral topological nets. In this study, two fused-silica open tubular columns with different inner diameters and lengths, including column A (30 m × 530 µm i.d.) and column B (2 m × 75 µm i.d.), were prepared by a dynamic coating method using Co-(D-Cam)1/2(bdc)1/2(tmdpy) as the stationary phase. The chromatographic properties of the two columns were investigated using n-dodecane as the test compound at 120 °C. The number of theoretical plates (plates/m) of the two metal-organic framework columns was 1,450 and 3,100, respectively. The separation properties were evaluated using racemates, isomers, alkanes, alcohols, and Grob's test mixture. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were found to be 0.125 and 0.417 ng for citronellal enantiomers, respectively. Repeatability (n = 6) showed lower than 0.25 % relative standard deviation (RSD) for retention times and lower than 2.2 % RSD for corrected peak areas. The experimental results showed that the stationary phase has excellent selectivity and also possesses good recognition ability toward these organic compounds, especially chiral compounds.

RESUMO

Objective: To comprehensively evaluate the characteristics of the circulating microRNA expression profile in type 2 diabetic patients with acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease by systematic evaluation and meta-analysis. Methods: The literatures up to March 2022 related to circulating microRNA and acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus were searched and screened from multiple databases. The NOS quality assessment scale was used to evaluate methodological quality. Heterogeneity tests and statistical analyses of all data were performed by Stata 16.0. The differences in microRNA levels between groups were illustrated by the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Results: A total of 49 studies on 12 circulating miRNAs were included in this study, including 486 cases of type 2 diabetes complicated with acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease and 855 controls. Compared with the control group (T2DM group), miR-200a, miR-144, and miR-503 were upregulated and positively correlated with acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Their comprehensive SMD and 95% CI were 2.71 (1.64~3.77), 5.77 (4.28~7.26) and 0.73 (0.27~1.19), respectively. MiR-126 was downregulated and negatively correlated with acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, its comprehensive SMD and 95% CI were -3.64 (-5.56~-1.72). Conclusion: In type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease, the expression of serum miR-200a, miR-503, plasma and platelet miR-144 was upregulated and the expression of serum miR-126 was downregulated. It may have diagnostic value in the early identification of type 2 diabetes mellitus with acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

RESUMO

Achieving the goal of zero hunger within the goal of sustainable development requires improving the resilience of food systems to various types of risk shocks; food systems have shown significant vulnerability to COVID-19 outbreaks and transmission. By analyzing the impact of China's lockdown policy and food security emergency policy in 2020 on food prices during the COVID-19 pandemic, we can clarify the role of policy intervention in enhancing the resilience of the food system, which can provide guidance, using China's experience, for dealing with global food safety emergencies in the future. Firstly, we selected Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong as food-consuming areas, and Shandong, Henan, and Hubei as food-producing areas. We also collected food security emergency policy data from the Chinese government website during the COVID-19 pandemic. Secondly, a difference-in-difference method was used to observe that Chinese cabbage and pork prices in the main food-producing areas and food-consuming areas rose more obviously after the adoption of lockdown policy, and Chinese cabbage and pork prices in the food-consuming areas increased more obviously than those in food-producing areas. However, staple food prices have not risen significantly. Thirdly, the response of four kinds of food prices to the food security emergency policy is analyzed quantitatively and graphically using the food price volatility index and food price increase rate; we observed that the response of food prices to the food security emergency policy is related to the food types and regions. For food types, the fluctuation degree and increase in Chinese cabbage and pork prices decreased significantly after the adoption of the food security emergency policy. For regions, when the food security emergency policy was adopted, the food prices in the main food-consuming areas fluctuated more obviously than those in food-producing areas. Finally, we found that the implementation of the transport policy and the joint supply emergency policy in the main producing and consuming areas has played a very significant and positive role in stabilizing food prices.

RESUMO

The Chinese Dietary Guidelines propose a balanced diet for healthy living, but the affordability of this diet needs to be considered, especially for low-income households. To investigate the affordability of a healthy diet, this study analyzes the daily retail prices of 46 food items in 36 Chinese cities from 2016 to 2021. This study compares expenditure, diet composition, and nutritional status in two scenarios aligned with the guidelines. The results show that the mean minimum cost of a balanced diet exceeds the current per capita food expenditure for at least 182.85 million urban households. This suggests that low-income people would need to increase their expenditure by at least 20-121% to achieve the recommended diets. This study also identifies affordable and nutrient-dense foods such as standard flour, eggs, black beans, and cabbage, which policymakers should focus on when monitoring food prices. The findings recommend a combination of social and food system policies to reduce prices and make healthy diets accessible. This study identifies the gaps in the Chinese Dietary Guidelines for ensuring accessibility for vulnerable groups and provides a template for policymakers and researchers to track diet affordability using available food price data in China, contributing to China's 2030 Health Plan and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

RESUMO

Improving travel time prediction for public transit effectively enhances service reliability, optimizes travel structure, and alleviates traffic problems. Its greater time-variance and uncertainty make predictions for short travel times (≤35min) more subject to be influenced by random factors. It requires higher precision and is more complicated than long-term predictions. Effectively extracting and mining real-time, accurate, reliable, and low-cost multi-source data such as GPS, AFC, and IC can provide data support for travel time prediction. Kalman filter model has high accuracy in one-step prediction and can be used to calculate a large amount of data. This paper adopts the Kalman filter as a travel time prediction model for a single bus based on single-line detection: including the travel time prediction model of route (RTM) and the stop dwell time prediction model (DTM); the evaluation criteria and indexes of the models are given. The error analysis of the prediction results is carried out based on AVL data by case study. Results show that under the precondition of multi-source data, the public transportation prediction model can meet the accuracy requirement for travel time prediction and the prediction effect of the whole route is superior to that of the route segment between stops.

RESUMO

Background: Increasing evidence has shown that elevated Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels are positively correlated with atherosclerosis (ATH) in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH). Some researchers found that the dysfunction of Endothelial Cells (ECs) in SCH plays an important role in the pathogenesis of ATH in SCH, but the association remains controversial. Objectives: To determine the expression profiles of serum microRNAs critical to the function of Endothelial cells (ECs) may help reanalyze the possible mechanism underlying ATH in SCH and the association between ATH and SCH. Methods: We used qRT-PCR to perform microRNA profiling and analysis in normal control subjects (NC), patients with SCH alone (SCH), patients with SCH and ATH (SCH+ATH), and patients with ATH without SCH (ATH). Results: Both miR-221-3p and miR-222-3p showed a decreasing expression trend between the SCH and SCH+ATH groups. In addition, miR-126-3p and miR-150-5p showed a stepwise decrease from the NC to SCH groups and then to the SCH+ATH or ATH group. miR-21-5p was unregulated in the SCH, SCH+ATH, and ATH groups. Furthermore, elevated levels of miR-21-5p in SCH+ATH group were higher than SCH and ATH group. No differences were found in the levels of miR-150, miR-126, miR-221 and miR-222 between the ATH and the SCH+ATH subjects. Conclusions: miR-21-5p may be involved in the atherosclerosis process in patients with SCH (SCH and SCH+ATH groups). miR-150-5p may be sensitive risk markers for predicting endothelial dysfunction in patients with ATH (ATH and SCH+ATH groups).

RESUMO

We investigated the effects of high- vs. standard-dose vitamin D supplementation on kidney function and bone metabolism in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Children were randomized to receive one of two formulations: 75 participants received 2,000 IU/D of oral supplementation of vitamin D, while 75 participants received 400 IU/d for a minimum of 4 months. We investigated the effects of vitamin D supplementation on kidney-related indicators and bone metabolism-related indicators at different doses. A total of 158 participants were screened, among whom 150 met the inclusion criteria. The indicators of chronic kidney disease such as eGFR and serum uric acid were negatively correlated with the 25(OH)D level and BMD. Serum 25(OH)D and osteocalcin levels were positively correlated with spine BMD. The standard dose of vitamin D can improve the serum uric acid level, but high doses of vitamin D supplementation had no significant effect on the serum uric acid level. High doses of vitamin D supplementation can also improve the alkaline phosphatase level. When comparing the results of different doses of vitamin D supplementation, it was found that high-dose vitamin D supplementation did not improve bone density in the spine and femur neck relative to the standard dose of vitamin D but improved hypocalcemia and N-terminal propeptide of the human procollagen type I (PINP) level. Among the children with clinical kidney disease, high-dose vitamin D treatment for 4 months resulted in statistically significant improvement in kidney function but no significant difference in bone metabolism compared with the standard-dose vitamin D treatment.

RESUMO

Background: Systemic inflammation and immune response are involved in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, the specific immune-associated signature during DN development is unclear. Our study aimed to reveal the roles of immune-related genes during DN progression. Methods: The GSE30529 and GSE30528 datasets were acquired from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Then, the intersection between differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and immune score-related genes (ISRGs) was screened. Subsequently, functional enrichment analyses were performed. The different immune phenotype-related subgroups were finally divided using unsupervised clustering. The core genes were identified by WGCNA and the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. xCell algorithm was applied to assess the proportion of immune cell infiltration. Results: 92 immune score-related DEGs (ISRDEGs) were identified, and these genes were enriched in inflammation- and immune-associated pathways. Furthermore, two distinct immune-associated subgroups (C1 and C2) were identified, and the C1 subgroup exhibited activated immune pathways and a higher percentage of immune cells compared to the C2 subgroup. Two core genes (LCK and HCK) were identified and all up-regulated in DN, and the expressions were verified using GSE30122, GSE142025, and GSE104954 datasets. GSEA indicated the core genes were mainly enriched in immune-related pathways. Correlation analysis indicated LCK and HCK expressions were positively correlated with aDC, CD4+ Tem, CD8+T cells, CD8+ Tem, and mast cells. Conclusions: We identified two immune-related genes and two immune-associated subgroups, which might help to design more precise tailored immunotherapy for DN patients.

RESUMO

Type I CD36 deficiency is defined by the absence of CD36 on both platelets and monocytes. Pseudothrombocytopenia (PTCP) is characterized by a false reduction in the number of platelets in ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)-anticoagulated blood. Here we report a rare case of concomitant CD36 deficiency and PTCP. The patient was a 7-year-old boy who suffered comminuted fractures of the left humeral condyle. In the pre-operative examination, he was found to have thrombopenia and assumed to have idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. After immunotherapy and platelet transfusion, the platelet count remained low, suggesting that the patient was refractory to platelet transfusion. Serum was collected for the detection of platelet antibodies, and antibodies against CD36 were found. Flow cytometry verified the absence of CD36 on both the platelets and monocytes of this patient. However, the platelet count was normal when capillary blood smears were analysed; in addition, platelet coagulation was noted under the microscope when EDTA-anticoagulated peripheral blood was used. The patient underwent surgery without platelet transfusion and recovered uneventfully.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: With the increasing prevalence of diabetes in recent years, diabetic nephropathy (DN) has also become a dangerous disease that greatly endangers human health. The study was designed to determine the mechanism and effect of Electro-acupuncture (EA) in alleviating DN-induced inflammation. METHODS: Mice were intraperitoneally injected with STZ (streptozotocin, 50 mg/kg, S0130, Sigma, St. Louis, MO, USA) for five consecutive days. After 12 weeks of induction, blood glucose levels were measured (>300 mg/dL). RESULTS: The serum levels of IL-1ß and IL-6 were decreased in EA-treated DN mice, and EA protected renal injury. EA could suppress HMGB1/NLRP3/NF-κB pathway. HMGB1 inhibition increased the anti-inflammatory effects of EA on DN by suppressing NLRP3/NF-κB pathway. The activation of HMGB1 attenuated the anti-inflammatory effects of EA on DN by inducing NLRP3/ NF-κB pathway. CONCLUSION: These results suggested that EA protected DN-induced inflammation through the suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome.

RESUMO

Creating a vital and lively urban environment is an inherent requirement of urban sustainable development, and understanding urban vibrancy is helpful for urban development policy making. The urban vibrancy theory needs more empirical supplementation and more evidence for the effect of the built environment on urban vibrancy. We use multisource urban spatial information data, including real-time population distribution (RPD) data and small catering business (SCB) data; quantitatively measure urban vibrancy; and build a comparative framework to explore the effect of the built environment on the urban vibrancy of a northwestern emerging city in China. The results demonstrate that the two urban vibrancy metrics present a spatial distribution pattern that is high in the south and low in the north areas of the city with significant spatial aggregation. Land-use intensity and diversity have strong positive effects on urban vibrancy but present a different pattern of effects on the two vibrancy measures. The influences on urban vibrancy of distance to the district center and distance to the nearest commercial complex are spatially complementary in the study area, and the effect of accessibility factors is weak. Our findings suggest that a somewhat cautious approach is required in the application of these classical planning theories to Urumqi.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the overall diagnostic value of circulating mini miRNAs for papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and to find the possible molecular marker with higher diagnostic value for PTC. METHODS: We searched the Pubmed, Cochrane and Embase database until June 2020. We selected relevant literatures associated with the diagnosis of PTC with circulating miRNAs. The number of cases in experimental group and the control group, sensitivity and specificity could be extracted from the literatures. RESULTS: We got 9 literatures including 2114 cases of PTC. Comprehensive sensitivity was 0.79, comprehensive specificity was 0.82, positive likelihood ratio was 4.3, negative likelihood ratio was 0.26, diagnostic advantage ratio was 16. The summary receiver operating characteristic curve was drawn and the Area Under the Curve was 0.87. CONCLUSIONS: Circulating microRNAs may be promising molecular markers for the diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Combined detection of certain serum microRNAs can improve the diagnostic accuracy of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Especially MiR-222 and miR-146b may be prime candidates for the diagnosis of PTC in Asian population.

RESUMO

With the rapid development of urbanization and the popularization of the vehicle, the frequent occurrence of traffic jams results in idling fuel waste, environmental pollution, and other issues. In order to alleviate these problems, engine start-stop technology has been widely used in different types of vehicles in recent years. However, current start-stop trigger technology has many deficiencies, such as mistaken triggering and frequent engine start-stop, which greatly reduces user driving experience, causing most of them to deactivate this system. The intelligent engine start-stop trigger (IEST) system based on the actual road running status was established by building the image recognition model and the digital traffic analysis model in order to solve this problem. A system test shows that IEST can avoid frequently engine starting and stopping. The results show that IEST could effectively improve the driving experience and reduce engine fuel consumption, and it promotes conventional engine start-stop technology.

RESUMO

The travel trajectory data of mobile intelligent terminal users are characterized by clutter, incompleteness, noise, fuzzy randomness. The accuracy of original data is an essential prerequisite for better results of trajectory data mining. The Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) is one of the most effective trajectory data mining methods, but the selection of input parameters often limits it. The Sage-Husa adaptive filtering algorithm effectively controls the error range of mobile phone GPS data, which can meet the positioning accuracy requirements for DBSCAN spatial clustering having the advantages of low cost and convenient use. Then, a novel cluster validity index was proposed based on the internal and external duty cycle to balance the influence of the distance within-cluster, the distance between clusters, and the number of coordinate points in the process of clustering. The index can automatically choose input parameters of density clustering, and the effective clustering can be formed on different data sets. The optimized clustering method can be applied to the in-depth analysis and mining of traveler behavior trajectories. Experiments show that the Sage -Husa adaptive filtering algorithm proposed further improves the positioning accuracy of GPS, which is 17.34% and 15.24% higher eastward and northward, 14.25%, and 18.17% higher in 2D and 3D dimensions, respectively. The number of noise points is significantly reduced. At the same time, compared with the traditional validity index, the evaluation index based on the duty cycle proposed can optimize the input parameters and obtain better clustering results of traveler location information.
