RESUMO

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a biomarker that is highly expressed in cancer patients. Label-free, highly sensitive, and specific detection of CEA biomarkers can therefore greatly aid in the early detection and screening of cancer. This study presents a toroidal metamaterial biosensor integrated with functionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) that demonstrated highly sensitive and specific detection of CEA using terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy. In the biosensor, a closed-loop magnetic field formed an electrical confinement, resulting in a high sensitivity (287.8 GHz/RIU) and an ultrahigh quality factor (15.04). In addition, the integrated AuNPs with high refractive indices significantly enhanced the sensing performance of the biosensor. To explore the quantitative and qualitative detection of CEA, CEA biomarkers with various concentrations and four types of proteins were measured by the designed biosensor, achieving a limit of detection of 0.17 ng and high specificity. Even more significant, the proposed AuNP-integrated THz toroidal metamaterial biosensor demonstrates exceptional potential for use in technologies for cancer diagnosis and monitoring.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We analyze and identify the signals of gender differences in adverse events (ADEs) related to Osimertinib and provide reference for clinical implementation of individualized drug use. METHODS: ADE reports of Osimertinib received from FAERS database from the first quarter of 2016 to the fourth quarter of 2022 were extracted. Reporting odds ratio (ROR) data analysis strategy was used for mining of signal strength that represents gender differences in ADEs related to Osimertinib. RESULTS: The number of Osimertinib ADE reports included in the analysis was 7968 in females and 7570 in males, respectively. According to ROR, men were more likely to develop pneumonia aspiration, lung infection, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary toxicity, dyspnea, ventricular extrasystoles, and pulmonary thrombosis, while women were more likely to develop cardiac failure congestive, stomatitis, diarrhea, muscle spasms, nail disorder, onycholysis, skin disorder, dry skin, and rash. CONCLUSION: Gender differences existed in ADE signals related to Osimertinib. The higher risk of ADEs in male patients was lung diseases that seem more serious than those nail toxicities or skin problems that occurred in female patients. In order to ensure the safety of medication, we should be alert to the differences between different genders and take corresponding preventive measures to reduce the occurrence of serious ADEs.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy, advantages and disadvantages of internal and external elbow joint approach and olecranon osteotomy approach for the treatment of intercondylar fracture of humerus. METHODS: From October 2012 to May 2016, 18 cases of intercondylar fracture of humerus were treated by operation including 12 males and 6 females with a mean age of 33.5 years old (ranged from 4 to 56 years old); 8 cases were operated by internal and external elbow joint approach, 10 cases were operated by olecranon osteotomy approach. According to AO classification, 3 cases were type C1, 8 cases were type C2, 7 cases were type C3. All patients were excluded from neurologic and vascular injuries. RESULTS: All patients were followed up from 12 to 26 months with an average of 15 months. The incision healed well and no heterotopic ossification was found. According to the modified Cassebaum elbow function score, the result was excellence in 14 cases, good in 3 cases, fair in 1 case. CONCLUSIONS: According to the fracture type, the appropriate surgical approach and fixation were selected in order to get anatomic reduction. Rigid fixation, and early functional exercise is important condition for successful operation and satisfactory functional recovery in intercondylar fracture of the humerus.
