RESUMO

Electrode material stability is crucial for the development of next-generation ultralong-lifetime batteries. However, current solid- and liquid-state electrode materials face challenges such as rigid atomic structure collapse and uncontrolled species migration, respectively, which contradict the theoretical requirements for ultralong operation lifetimes. Herein, we present a design concept for a soft colloid polyvinylpyrrolidone iodine (PVP-I) electrode, leveraging the inherent water molecule competition effect between (SO4)2- from the electrolyte and PVP-I from the cathode in an aqueous Zn||PVP-I battery. Electrochemical demonstrations measured under various simulated and practical (integrated with photovoltaic solar panel) conditions highlight the potential for an ultralong battery lifetime. The PVP-I colloid exhibits a dynamic response to the electric field during battery operation. More importantly, the water competition effect between (SO4)2- from the electrolyte and water-soluble polymer cathode materials establishes a new electrolyte/cathode interfacial design platform for advancing ultralong-lifetime aqueous batteries.

RESUMO

Downregulation of circ_0044226 has been demonstrated to reduce pulmonary fibrosis, but the role of circ_0044226 in liver fibrosis remains to be explored. In this work, we found that circ_0044226 expression was upregulated during liver fibrosis. Knockdown of circ_0044226 inhibited proliferation, promoted autophagy and apoptosis of hepatic stellate cell LX-2. Bioinformatic analysis and dual luciferase reporter assays confirmed the interaction between circ_0044226, miR-4677-3p and SEC61G. Mechanistically, knockdown of circ_0044226 suppressed SEC61G expression by releasing miR-4677-3p, thereby enhancing endoplasmic reticulum stress. Overexpression of SEC61G or endoplasmic reticulum stress inhibitor 4-phenylbutiric acid partially reversed the effect of knockdown circ_0044226 on LX-2 cell function. In vivo experiments showed that inhibition of circ_0044226 attenuated CCL4-induced liver fibrosis in mice. These imply that circ_0044226 may be a potential target for the treatment of liver fibrosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Palliative surgical oncology patients represent a unique group with complex needs who often require multidisciplinary input for the provision of timely and holistic care. The authors assembled a multi-disciplinary palliative intervention team and evaluated its association with the quality of discussions on goals of care (GOC) among advanced cancer patients undergoing palliative interventions. METHODS: This prospective cohort study analyzed advanced cancer patients undergoing palliative interventions at a single urban academic center from October 2019 to March 2022. In January 2021, a multi-disciplinary palliative surgical intervention (MD-PALS) team was assembled. All palliative surgical oncology patients were discussed at multi-disciplinary meetings and managed by members of the MD-PALS team. An interrupted time series (ITS) model was built to evaluate the association of MD-PALS implementation and the quality of GOC discussions as measured by a consensus-derived four-point GOC discussion quality score. RESULTS: The study recruited 126 palliative surgical oncology patients: 44 in the pre-MD-PALS group and 82 in the post-MD-PALS group. The two groups did not differ significantly in baseline demographics, treatment, or postoperative and survival outcomes. Compared with the pre-MD-PALS group, the post-MD-PALS group had a significantly higher mean GOC discussion quality score (1.34 vs 2.61; p < 0.001). Based on the ITS model, the average quarterly GOC discussion quality score increased significantly among patients after implementation of the MD-PALS team (change = 1.93; 95 % confidence interval, 0.96-2.90; P = 0.003). CONCLUSION: The implementation of an MD-PALS team was associated with improvements in the quality of GOC discussions among palliative surgical oncology patients.

RESUMO

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), a gram-negative bacterial microbiological carcinogen, has been identified as the leading jeopardy feature for developing human gastric cancer (GC). As a result, inhibiting H. pylori growth has been identified as an effective and critical technique for preventing GC development. In this study, geraniol inhibits H. pylori-induced gastric carcinogen signalling in human gastric epithelial cells (GES-1). Geraniol prevents cytotoxicity, ROS and apoptosis in H. pylori-induced GES-1 cells. Furthermore, geraniol protects against H. -induced antioxidant depletion caused by malondialdehyde, damage of reactive DNA and nuclear fragmentation. Geraniol significantly reduced the expression of phosphorylated mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) proteins such as p38 MAPK, extracellular signal-regulated kinase-1 (ERK1), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (c-JNK), tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in GES-1 infected with H. pylori. Furthermore, geraniol increased the antioxidant protein peroxiredoxin-1 (Prdx-1) in H. pylori-infected cells. Geraniol thus protects H. pylori-concomitant infection, and its resistance may be a possible method in preventing gastric cancer caused by H. pylori.

RESUMO

Angiopoietin like 4 (ANGPTL4) has been proved to play an important role in lipid and glucose metabolism disorders and related cardiovascular diseases, but its role in the formation of cirrhosis still needs to be further explored. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the role of ANGPTL4 in the development of liver cirrhosis and its mechanism, as well as its effect on Kupffer cell polarization and hepatic stellate cell activation. The ELISA and RT-qPCR assay were used to detect the content of ANGPTL4 in serum and mRNA expression in cells and tissues respectively. The expression of ANGPTL4, Arg1 and Mrc2 in Kupffer cells was measured by Western blot. The percentage of CD163+ and CD206+ cells was measured by flow cytometry. Mice cirrhosis model was established, and the expression of ANGPTL4 was interfered by injecting sh-ANGPTL4 lentiviral vector into caudal vein. The results revealed that ANGPTL4 was significantly up-regulated in liver cirrhosis patients and HBV induced liver injury cell models. Further studies found that interference with ANGPTL4 regulated CD163 and inhibited the polarization and proinflammatory effects of KCs,as well as inhibited the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) and fibrosis. More importantly, Interference with ANGPTL4 inhibits the progression of liver cirrhosis in mice. What's more, TLR4/NF-κB pathway was involved in the molecular mechanism of ANGPTL4 on Kupffer cells and hepatic stellate cells. It is suggested that the mechanism of sh-ANGPTL4 suppressing the polarization of KCs and the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) is to regulate the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathways.

RESUMO

Background There is a paucity of randomized trials demonstrating superior efficacy of drug-coated balloon angioplasty (DCBA) compared with conventional percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) for below-the-knee arterial disease in patients with -critical limb ischemia. Purpose To compare DCBA versus PTA for below-the-knee lesions in participants with critical limb ischemia through 12 months. Materials and Methods In this prospective, randomized, two-center, double-blind superiority study, participants with critical limb ischemia with rest pain or tissue loss with atherosclerotic disease in the native below-the-knee arteries were randomly assigned (in a one-to-one ratio) to DCBA or PTA after stratification for diabetes and renal failure between November 2013 and October 2017. The primary efficacy end point was angiographic primary patency at 6 months analyzed on an intention-to-treat basis. Secondary end points through 12 months were composed of major adverse events including death and major amputations, wound healing, limb salvage, clinically driven target-lesion revascularization, and amputation-free survival. Primary and binary secondary end points, analyzed by using generalized-linear model and time-to-event analyses, were estimated with Kaplan-Meier survival curves and hazard ratios (Cox regression). Results Seventy participants (mean age, 61 years ± 10 [standard deviation]; 43 men) in the DCBA group and 68 (mean age, 64 years ± 10; 50 men) in the PTA group were evaluated. The percentage of patients with angiographic primary patency at 6 months was 43% (30 of 70) in the DCBA group and 38% (26 of 68) in the PTA group (P = .48). Through 12 months, the percentage of deaths was similar: 21% in the DCBA group and 16% in the PTA group (P = .43). Amputation-free survival rate assessed with Kaplan-Meier curves differed through 12 months: 59% (41 of 70) in the DCBA group compared with 78% (53 of 68) in the PTA group (P = .01). Conclusion In participants with critical limb ischemia, the drug-coated balloon angioplasty group and the conventional percutaneous transluminal angioplasty group had similar primary patency rates at 6 months after treatment of below-the-knee arteries. Amputation-free survival rates through 12 months were higher in the percutaneous transluminal angioplasty group. © RSNA, 2021 Online supplemental material is available for this article.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of hepatic arterial infusion (HAI), conventional transarterial chemoembolization, drug-eluting embolic transarterial chemoembolization (DEE-TACE), transarterial radioembolization, and their combinations with systemic chemotherapy (SCT) for unresectable colorectal liver metastases. METHODS: A search was conducted on Embase, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science for prospective nonrandomized studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from inception to June 20, 2020. Survival data of patients were recovered from original Kaplan-Meier curves by exploiting a graphical reconstructive algorithm. One-stage meta-analyses were conducted for the median overall survival (OS), survival rates (SRs), and restricted mean survival time (RMST), whereas two-stage meta-analyses of proportions were conducted to determine response rates (RRs) and conversion to resection rates (CRRs). RESULTS: A total of 71 prospective nonrandomized studies and 21 RCTs were identified, comprising 6,695 patients. Among patients treated beyond the first-line, DEE-TACE + SCT (n = 152) had the best survival outcomes of median OS of 26.5 (95% confidence interval [CI], 22.5-29.1) months and a 3-year RMST of 23.6 (95% CI, 21.8-25.5) months. Upon further stratification by publication year, DEE-TACE + SCT appeared to consistently have the highest pooled SRs at 1 year (81.9%) and 2 years (66.1%) in recent publications (2015-2020). DEE-TACE + SCT and HAI + SCT had the highest pooled RRs of 56.7% (I2 = 0.90) and 62.6% (I2 = 0.87) and pooled CRRs of 35.5% (I2 = 0.00) and 30.3% (I2 = 0.80), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Albeit significant heterogeneity, the paucity of high-quality evidence, and the noncomparative nature of all analyses, the overall evidence suggests that patients treated with DEE-TACE + SCT have the best oncological outcomes and greatest potential to be converted for resection.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate the use of a sirolimus drug-coated balloon (DCB) in the management of a thrombosed arteriovenous graft (AVG). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A single-center prospective pilot study was conducted between October 2018 and October 2019. Twenty patients (age = 67.0 years ± 10; male = 35%; mean time on dialysis = 31 months) with thrombosed upper limb AVG were enrolled. After successful pharmacomechanical thrombectomy and adequate treatment of the graft vein junction, sirolimus DCB angioplasty was performed at the graft vein junction. The patients were followed-up for 6 months, and all adverse events occurring during the study period were recorded. RESULTS: The primary circuit patency rates at 3 and 6 months were 76% and 65%, respectively, while the assisted-primary circuit patency rates at 3 and 6 months were 82% and 65%, respectively. The 3- and 6-month secondary circuit patency rates were 88% and 76%, respectively. Using Kaplan-Meier analyses, the estimated mean primary, assisted-primary, and secondary patencies were 285 days (95% confidence interval (CI) = 194-376 days), 319 days (95% CI = 221-416 days), and 409 days (95% CI = 333-485 days). No adverse event directly related to sirolimus DCB use was observed. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this pilot study suggest that the application of sirolimus DCB at the graft vein junction after the successful thrombectomy of AVG may be a feasible option to improve patency outcomes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To perform an individual patient data level meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials comparing drug coated balloon angioplasty (DCB) against conventional percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in the treatment of dysfunctional haemodialysis venous access. METHODS: A search was conducted from inception to 13 November 2020. Kaplan-Meier curves comparing DCB with PTA by target lesion primary patency (TLPP) and access circuit primary patency (ACPP) were graphically reconstructed to retrieve patient level data. One stage meta-analyses with Cox models with random effects shared frailties were conducted to determine hazard ratios (HRs). Dynamic restricted mean survival times (RMST) were conducted in view of violation of the proportional hazards assumption. Conventional two stage meta-analyses and network meta-analyses under random effects Frequentist models were conducted to determine overall and comparative outcomes of paclitaxel concentrations used. Where outliers were consistently detected through outlier and influence analyses, sensitivity analyses excluding those studies were conducted. RESULTS: Among 10 RCTs (1 207 patients), HRs across all models favoured DCB (one stage shared frailty HR 0.62, 95% CI 0.53 - 0.73, p < .001; two stage random effects HR 0.60, 95% CI 0.42 - 0.86, p = .018, I2 = 65%) for TLPP. Evidence of time varying effects (p = .005) was found. TLPP RMST was + 3.54 months (25.0%) longer in DCB treated patients compared with PTA (p = .001) at three years. TLPP at six months, one year, and two years was 75.3% vs. 58.1%, 51.1% vs. 37.1%, and 31.4% vs. 26.0% for DCB and PTA, respectively. The P-Scores within the Frequentist network meta-analysis suggest that higher concentrations of paclitaxel were associated with better TLPP and ACPP. Among six RCTs (854 patients), the one stage model favoured DCB (shared frailty HR 0.72, 95% CI 0.60 - 0.87, p < .001) for ACPP. Conversely, the two stage random effects model demonstrated no significant difference (HR 0.76, 95% CI 0.35 - 1.67, p = .41, I2 = 81%). Sensitivity analysis excluding outliers significantly favoured DCB (HR 0.61, 95% CI 0.41 - 0.91, p = .027, I2 = 62%). CONCLUSION: Overall evidence suggests that DCB is favoured over PTA in TLPP and ACPP.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Early diagnosis of gastric cancer is difficult in China due to the lack of a valid method for endoscopic screening. Early gastric cancer, especially flat gastric cancer, lacks specific endoscopic features. Many cases appear to be similar to ordinary gastritis cases under normal white light endoscopy, which can lead to misdiagnosis. AIMS: In order to find a new method to improve detection rate of early gastric cancer in China, we designed a trial to validate linked color imaging (LCI) for screening of early gastric cancer in a high-risk population, as compared to white light imaging (WLI). METHOD: Subjects were randomly allocated to either the LCI + WLI or WLI group and then subjected to gastroscopy and all endoscopies were made after special preparation. All endoscopists had knowledge of this experiment. The main indicator was the rate of detection of gastric neoplastic lesions. The difference in the detection rate between the two groups is reported. RESULTS: The detection rate was 4.31% in the WLI group and 8.01% in the LCI + WLI group. This is a difference of 3.70% with a P value < 0.001 and an OR (95% CI) of 1.934 (1.362, 2.746). The lower limit of the 95% CI was greater than 0, and the superiority margin was 1%. CONCLUSION: The detection rate of gastric neoplastic lesions was higher in the LCI + WLI group than in the WLI group, LCI might be an effective method for screening early gastric cancer.

RESUMO

Studies have found that miR-665 acted as a tumor suppressor or an oncogene in different malignancies. miR-665 expression was elevated in gastric adenocarcinoma tissues; however, its role and mechanism in this disease are not fully clarified. The expression of miR-665 and its target gene was detected in human gastric adenocarcinoma tissues and cells. Moreover, we analyzed the effects of miR-665 on the proliferation, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of gastric adenocarcinoma cells as well as tumor growth in vivo. The mechanisms of miR-665 in gastric adenocarcinoma were investigated by using molecular biology techniques. We found miR-665 was upregulated and suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) was downregulated in gastric adenocarcinoma tissues and cells. Elevated miR-665 was positively correlated with tumor size, lymph node metastasis, invasion depth, TNM stage, and poor differentiation in gastric adenocarcinoma patients. Overexpression of miR-665 promoted, whereas knockdown of miR-665 suppressed the proliferation, migration, and EMT of gastric adenocarcinoma cells. Furthermore, we demonstrated that miR-665 functioned through targeting SOCS3, followed by activation of the FAK/Src signaling pathway in gastric adenocarcinoma cells. miR-665 antagomir inhibited tumor growth as well as the activation of the FAK/Src pathway but increased SOCS3 expression in nude mice. In addition, miR-665 expression was negatively regulated by long noncoding RNA maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3). In conclusion, miR-665 acted as an oncogene in gastric adenocarcinoma by inhibiting SOCS3 followed by activation of the FAK/Src pathway and it was negatively modulated by MEG3. miR-665 may be a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of gastric adenocarcinoma.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To report the outcome and distal access patency of the Subintimal Arterial Flossing with Antegrade-Retrograde Intervention (SAFARI) technique for chronic total occlusion (CTO) in critical limb ischemia (CLI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2009 to June 2015, 220 SAFARI procedures were performed for 200 limbs in 191 patients (108 males [56.5%]; median age, 70 years old; range, 36 to 97 years old) with CLI (9.4% were Fontaine classification 3; and 90.6% were Fontaine classification 4). Distal access was obtained from the distal superficial femoral artery (n = 6), popliteal artery (n = 49), anterior tibial artery (n = 56), dorsalis pedis (n = 51), peroneal artery (n = 12), posterior tibial artery (n = 45), and lateral plantar artery (n = 1). Distal access hemostasis was obtained with internal balloon tamponade in 71.4% (n = 157). Outcome measurements were technical success, freedom from major amputation and complications. Preprocedural angiograms of clinically driven repeat interventions were reviewed in 73 cases for distal access patency. RESULTS: Technical success was achieved in 80.5% (n = 177). Reasons for technical failure include inability to obtain distal access (n = 3), cross the occlusion retrogradely (n = 16), re-enter the true lumen (n = 9), and achieve antegrade blood flow after the procedure (n = 15). Freedom from major amputation for technically successful procedures was 84.7%, 82.9%, and 81.9% at 6, 12, and 24 months, respectively. There were 3 cases of distal access bleeding with 1case that required coil embolization. The distal access remained patent in 80.8% of observable cases with repeated endovascular intervention. CONCLUSIONS: Distal retrograde arterial access (SAFARI) technique is safe and effective in the treatment of CTOs in the context of CLI, after failure of antegrade revascularization.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To review outcomes of patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) who underwent conventional percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) as first-line treatment for revascularization. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective review of 3,303 angioplasty procedures on 2,402 limbs in 1,968 patients with CLI was conducted. Mean patient age was 68 years ± 11, and 1,057 patients (54%) were male. Diabetes mellitus (DM) was present in 1,736 patients (88%), and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in 579 (29%). A majority of patients (90%) had tissue loss. Limb salvage rates were generated by Kaplan-Meier plot. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis was conducted to investigate associations between clinical predictors and time-to-event outcome. RESULTS: Limb salvage rates at 1, 3, 5, and 10 years were 75%, 73%, 72%, and 62%, respectively, and overall survival rates were 79%, 64%, 56%, and 34%, respectively. In multivariable Cox regression analysis with the outcome of major amputation, significant predictors included age < 69 years (P = .032), Malay race (P = .029), DM (P < .001), history of cerebral vascular disease (P = .003), ESRD (P < .001), Rutherford classification (P = .042), repeat intervention (P = .034), and number of straight-line flows (P < .001) and plantar arch integrity (P < .001) on completion angiography. Significant associations with mortality were age < 69 years (P < .001), male sex (P = .030), Malay race (P = .027), history of ischemic heart disease (P < .001), ESRD (P < .001), and repeat intervention (P < .001). RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Gastric intestinal metaplasia (IM) is common in the gastric epithelium of patients with chronic atrophic gastritis. CDX2 activation in IM is driven by reflux of bile acids and following chronic inflammation. But the mechanism underlying how bile acids activate CDX2 in gastric epithelium has not been fully explored. METHODS: We performed microRNA (miRNA) and messenger RNA (mRNA) profiling using microarray in cells treated with bile acids. Data integration of the miRNA/mRNA profiles with gene ontology (GO) analysis and bioinformatics was performed to detect potential miRNA-mRNA regulatory circuits. Transfection of gastric cancer cell lines with miRNA mimics and inhibitors was used to evaluate their effects on the expression of candidate targets and functions. Immunohistochemistry and in situhybridisation were used to detect the expression of selected miRNAs and their targets in IM tissue microarrays. RESULTS: We demonstrate a bile acids-triggered pathway involving upregulation of miR-92a-1-5p and suppression of its target FOXD1 in gastric cells. We first found that miR-92a-1-5p was increased in IM tissues and induced by bile acids. Moreover, miR-92a-1-5p was found to activate CDX2 and downstream intestinal markers by targeting FOXD1/FOXJ1 axis and modulating activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway. Furthermore, these effects were found to be clinical relevant, as high miR-92a-1-5p levels were correlated with low FOXD1 levels and high CDX2 levels in IM tissues. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest a miR-92a-1-5p/FOXD1/NF-κB/CDX2 regulatory axis plays key roles in the generation of IM phenotype from gastric cells. Suppression of miR-92a-1-5p and restoration of FOXD1 may be a preventive approach for gastric IM in patients with bile regurgitation.

RESUMO

Available molecular and genetic tools for the genetic manipulation of Arthrobacter species are limited until now. In gene engineering, a continuous set of promoters with various strengths are of importance for fine-tuning gene expression in metabolic optimization and control analysis. Here, for the first time, we constructed a promoter trap system using green fluorescence protein (GFP) as a reporter, for screening and characterizing functional Arthrobacter promoters. Twenty-three Arthrobacter transformants of various GFP fluorescence strengths were isolated and characterized through the analysis of DNA sequences. Among the 23 putative promoters, 2 were selected for deletion analysis of promoter elements. As a result, the deletion of the upstream of the putative promoter P8 and P13 caused a 43.8% decrease and a 29.1% increase in the fluorescence signals, respectively. Finally, we obtained the strongest promoter P13-3 which was 4.4 times more potent than the promoter of 6-hydroxyl-D-nicotine oxidase gene which was previously reported in Arthrobacter nicotinovorans, and the obtained promoter was used to improve the production of cyclic adenosine monophosphate in Arthrobacter sp. CGMCC 3584. The screening strategy together with obtained promoters in this study would contribute to the future engineering of Arthrobacter species.

RESUMO

Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is a common type of head and neck malignancy worldwide. The molecular mechanism of LSCC remains not well understood. PAQR3 (progestin and AdipoQ receptors) is a member of the progestin and adipoQ receptor (PAQR) family. Many studies have showed that PAQR3 acts as a new tumor suppressor. However, its expression and functions in LSCC are still unknown. In our study, the expression of PAQR3 was downregulated in human LSCC tissues compared to that in adjacent tissues. Moreover, overexpression of PAQR3 suppressed LSCC cell proliferation and invasion. In addition, PAQR3 inhibited cell proliferation and invasion by regulating ERK phosphorylation. In conclusion, our data demonstrated that PAQR3 acted a tumor suppressive role in LSCC, providing a novel diagnostic and therapeutic option for LSCC in the future.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer (GC) is a common malignant disease and microRNAs (miRNAs) have been shown to play important roles in GC tumorigenesis. As the clinical outcome of GC is closely correlated with the clinical stage at the time of diagnosis, early detection and prevention are crucial. This study was designed to evaluate the expression level of plasma miR-23b in patients with GC and investigate the relationship between plasma miR-23b expression level and the prognosis of GC. MATERIAL/METHODS: We recruited 138 patients diagnosed with GC and 50 healthy volunteers. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was performed to evaluate the expression level of plasma miR-23b in all participants. The association between miR-23b expression and clinicopathological factors as well as survival rates was analyzed. Receiver operator curve (ROC) analysis was carried out to evaluate the diagnostic performance of plasma miR-23b for GC.Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were conducted to determine whether plasma miR-23b was an independent predictor of survival. RESULTS: The expression levels of miR-23b were upregulated in plasma samples from GC patients (P<0.01) and were significantly associated with T stage, distant metastasis, and differentiation. Significantly shorter 5-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were observed in patients with higher expression of the miR-23b (P<0.01). The area under the curve (AUC) of high expression of plasma miR-23b to diagnose GC was 0.80 (95% CI: 0.74-0.86, P<0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that enhanced expression of plasma miR-23b was an independent predictor of OS (P=0.015) and DFS (P=0.004). CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that plasma miR-23b was overexpressed in GC patients and high plasma miR-23b expression was associated with poor clinical outcome. Thus, plasma miR-23b may serve as a potential diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for GC.
