RESUMO

Surgical patients with cancer of the stomach, colon and genitals (316) were followed up. Frequencies of postoperative ventral hernia and certain factors of their development were evaluated. It was found that surgical complication occurred in 29.4%, aged 4-192 months. Hernia was mostly registered in gynecological and colorectal cancer patients who had had laparotomy and radiotherapy in their case history. Considering its frequency, postoperative ventral hernia is a serious health problem.

RESUMO

Rats (Wistar) were irradiated (60Co) with dose of 500 R at the dose-rate of 345 R/min. Using a curve of decrease of the mitotic index in hemopoietic tissue cells after irradiation, an attempt has been made to determine the average time of mitosis. The parameters (latent period, the minimum and average time of mitosis, resp., variance and density distribution type) were introduced in the mathematical equation which relates mitotic index postradiation decrease curve to mitosis time density distribution. It has been found that the actual average time of mitosis for hemopoietic tissues of rats is in the range of 25--27 min 32--33 min and 26--27 min. for thymocytes, promyelocytes--myelocytes and erythroblasts--normoblasts, respectively.

RESUMO

T--enriched lymphocyte fraction from normal donors was isolated from heparinized peripheral blood on Ficoll-Urotrast gradients. The mitogenic response of T-lymphocytes in culture was 3 times as high as that of unseparated mononuclear cells. The intensity of blast transformation to PHA did not correlate with the increase of T-lymphocytes in culture. These data suggest that cells of not T-origin may be the limiting factor during mitogenic response of T-lymphocytes to PHA.

RESUMO

Infectious allergic myocarditis (IAM) is frequently complicated by signs of congestive heart failure (CHF). IAM patients generally suffer from rhythm and conduction disturbances which can be the leading symptom of the disease in some patients. Slowly progressive immune inflammation in the myocardium makes the differential diagnosis difficult in IAM and dilated cardiomyopathy in which endomyocardial biopsy and cardiospecific immunological examinations of the patient are of great significance. Identification of the autoimmune process in the myocardium and early immunodepressive therapy may arrest the progression of myocardial damage. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between antigen antibodies and clinical manifestations of myocardial damage in IAM.

RESUMO

A study of HLA phenotype in 151 cases of breast cancer showed an increased occurrence of DR4 antigen (46.8%) as compared to general population (16.3%). Some clinical parameters of DR4-positive and DR4-negative patients were compared. Estradiol receptor-negative tumor was observed in 40% of DR4-positive patients and only in 18.5% of estradiol receptor-negative ones. DR4 positivity was associated with poorer prognosis.

RESUMO

Materials on surgical treatment of 365 patients with various types of ventral hernias are discussed. The authors describe original methods of ventroplasty which they developed and approved . The methods comprise duplication of the whole peritoneal-muscular-cicatricial-aponeurotic complex of the abdominal wall by means of a double-row suture passed through all these layers and application of a third reinforcing row of sutures; whenever necessary, the operation is divided into two stages. Preoperative compression training of the abdomen is conducted in cases of a large hernia. Attention is focused on the need to choose the method of plasty for each individual patient, which makes it possible to avoid serious complications and fatal outcomes and produce good results of the treatment. Recurrences in large ventral hernias occurred in 8% of cases.

RESUMO

Experiments were conducted on Wistar rats irradiated in a dose of 400 R; a study was made of the effect of thymocyte autotransplantation (4-10(8)--8-10(8)) on the restoration of cell number of the bone marrow and the spleen. There was revealed a significant stimulating effect of autotransplantation of thymocytes on the erythroid and granulocytic series in the bone marrow and on the lymphoid one in the spleen during the restoration (the 5 th-- 7 th days) after the irradiation. Irradiation of the thymocyte suspension with gamma-rays in a dose of 10 000 R failed to prevent the effect of autotransplantation on the bone marrow, but decreased its stimulating effect. A conclusion was drawn on the interaction of the administered thymocytes with the stem hemopoietic cell.
