RESUMO

This paper tests the party capability theory of Galanter (1974) using the universe of legal entities and their 9.8 million commercial disputes in Russia in 2012-2019. We find that repetitiveness is negatively associated with litigation success in general. We explain this by selection into litigation. Entities engaged in unfair business practices are repeatedly selected into disputes as respondents becoming repeat players in spite of themselves. We argue that repetitiveness should be decoupled from party capability and urge for conceptual revision of the notion of a repeat player in court.

RESUMO

The consumers, employees, and organizations have been deeply impacted by Covid-19 pandemic. The present study offers a detailed coping mechanism for organizations based on the extant literature and content analysis of responses of senior management executives. The study is based on semi-structured long interviews with senior executives from various industries. Various measures have been identified for firms as a coping strategy for crisis management and customer well-being. Covid-19 has changed the way individuals live. This study suggests that firms should come forward for well-being of their employees in this new normal. One of the major shifts due to pandemic is in consumer behavior and their consumption habits. Pandemic made consumers go for digitization, think for hygiene, sustainability, and local products. And firms should keep the changed consumer behavior in mind while manufacturing the products. Furthermore, present study suggests that firms can create a positive image of their company by doing CSR activities for society's well-being.

RESUMO

In the age of digitization, digital transformation has emerged as a crucial pathway for companies to achieve sustainable development. In a sample of 24,103 firm-year observations from 3,508 listed companies in China's A-share market between 2007 and 2020, we investigate the relationship between corporate digital transformation and financing constraints based on dynamic capability theory. The proportion of intangible assets dedicated to digital technology is employed as a measure of the degree of digital transformation, and the SA index is utilized to assess the level of financing constraints. The findings demonstrate that digital transformation plays a significant role in alleviating financing constraints. In addition, greater institutional ownership leads to a pronounced negative correlation between digital transformation and financing constraints. From the perspective of dynamic capability theory, this study provides empirical evidence supporting research on economic consequences associated with digital transformation. Our results may contribute towards government formulation and implementation of policies promoting digital transformation to create a supportive external environment for businesses. Companies must seize opportunities associated with digital transformation to mitigate financing constraints.

RESUMO

Background: The hospital supply chain has revealed increasing vulnerabilities and disruptions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, threatening the healthcare services and patient safety. The resilience of hospital supply chains has emerged as a paramount concern within the healthcare system. However, there is a lack of systematic research to develop an instrument tailored to the healthcare industry that is both valid and reliable for measuring hospital supply chain resilience. Therefore, this study aims to construct and validate a comprehensive scale for assessing hospital supply chain resilience, based on dynamic capability theory. Methods: This study followed rigorous scale development steps, starting with a literature review and 15 semi-structured interviews to generate initial items. These items were then refined through expert panel feedback and three rounds of Delphi studies. Using data from 387 hospitals in Province S, mainland China, the scale underwent rigorous testing and validation using structural equation modeling. To ensure the most effective model, five alternative models were examined to determine the most suitable parsimonious model. Results: The study produced a 26-item scale that captures five dimensions of resilience in line with dynamic capability theory: anticipation, adaptation, response, recovery, and learning, all showing satisfactory consistency, reliability and validity. Conclusion: The multi-dimensional scale offers hospital managers a valuable tool to identify areas needing attention and improvement, benchmark resilience against their counterparts, and ultimately strengthen their supply chains against unexpected risks.

RESUMO

Increased industrialization has led to unprecedented resource depletion on a global scale. The current state of affairs has compelled practitioners and academics to investigate the role of sustainable technologies in greening the operations of businesses. Previous studies have attempted to examine the number of operational aspects for their role in making firms sustainable, yet the utility of blockchain technologies is in its infancy. The role of BT in enhancing integration across supply chains has been in the limelight in the recent past. At the same time, its ability to cause sustainable supply chain performance (SSCP) in sync with the circular economy (CE) and supply chain integration (SCI) has largely remained unexplored. Therefore, this study intends to examine the association between blockchain technologies (BTs) and SSCPs through integration to fill the empirical gaps. The study was pursued to investigate the moderating role of the CE on the relationship between multiple extents of SCI and SSCP. Based on dynamic capability theory (DCT), the study considered BT a dynamic resource. BTs are used to integrate and reenergize the relationships with upstream and downstream channel members in pursuit of sustainable performance outcomes. The study opted for a cross-sectional design, where data was collected through convenience sampling from 475 managers from SMEs operating across Pakistan. PLS-SEM was used to analyze the data and to generate the required empirical outcomes. Study results favored the significant association between BT and SSCP, followed by a significant mediating role of SCI dimensions and moderating role of the CE. The study's findings propagate the utility of BTs adoption for SMEs, which holds the potential for firms to achieve system-wide integration to achieve sustainable outcomes. The given empirical investigation holds valuable insights for practitioners and scholars intending to pursue research on the subject matter.

RESUMO

Balancing environmental sustainability and green business growth is one of the primary goals of corporate environmental entrepreneurship, while green entrepreneurship orientation (GEO) represents balanced approaches to maximize green business value-added and maintain environmental performance (EP). Green innovation (GI) strengthens green business efficiencies and drives GEO achievements. Building on the natural resource-based view (NRBV) and dynamic capability view (DCV), this research addressed the critical role of GEO and GI on EP. In addition, the effect of green absorptive capacity (GAC) and managerial environmental concern (MEC) on EP is estimated. The results indicated that GEO significantly affects MEC and GI. While GI positively influences MEC, the relationship between GI and GAC was insignificant. Additionally, GAC and MEC positively and greatly influenced EP. As GAC partially mediates the effect of GEO and GI on EP, MEC also partly mediates the relationship between GI and EP. In the context of the environment, this study presents three quantitative achievements, namely (1) it confirms the vital role of green dynamic capabilities such as GAC to balance GEO's green business agenda and maintain environmental performance, (2) GAC converts knowledge creation to knowledge applications focusing on the development of eco-friendly products and processes to reduce environmental pollution, and (3) MEC determine and focus on GI core competencies to support GEO strategies, (4) GAC level up firms green dynamic capabilities to the level of GEO, and thus maintaining ecosystem and eco-business sustainability. In light of the study outcomes, theoretical and managerial implications were highlighted.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Research into mental health and wellbeing recognises the role of positive mental health to enable people to lead healthy and emotionally fulfilling lives. Mental health difficulties continue to be associated with high levels of disability worldwide, and refugees fleeing conflict are known to suffer from poor mental health for years after their forced migration. METHOD: Informed by Sen's Capability Approach and as part of a wider research project, we used semi-structured interviews to engage with 60 men and women in two refugee communities in Uganda and Rwanda to explore their aspirations and what a 'good life' meant to them. FINDINGS: While aspects of what constituted a good life were gendered, both men and women struggled to achieve their aspirations within their communities. Following the basic needs of food and shelter, the complex needs of being dressed well and being clean were consistently associated with be able to achieve a 'good life' by women and men across age groups. Looking good and being clean were highly valued and associated with gaining the respect of others, achieving good relationships with neighbours, and avoiding conflict. Participants identified personal appearance and related social status as critical precursors to their successful engagement with other gendered dimensions of social and economic life in their communities, such as finding employment and being well regarded in their religious communities. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that without the means to present a good appearance, people living in refugee communities may experience feelings of shame and isolation and are unable to gain self-respect and the respect of others needed to achieve the positive mental and physical health they associate with leading 'a good life'.

RESUMO

Digital transformation of traditional enterprises can better develop new customer relationships and help mitigate the business risk of their over-reliance on single-customer relationships. However, little research has been conducted on the internal mechanisms of how enterprise digitalization reshapes corporate customer relationships. In this manuscript, from the perspective of dynamic capability theory, we construct conceptual models of enterprise digital transformation, innovation capability, operational cost, and customer satisfaction, and explore the internal mechanisms of enterprise digital transformation to reduce the dependence of enterprises on large customers. The model is empirically studied by obtaining data on the degree of digital transformation of enterprises through "search statistics" of keywords in the annual reports of Chinese listed companies during 2011-2019. This manuscript finds that digital transformation significantly reduces the concentration of large customers and has become a powerful driver of business model innovation in the digital economy, and this finding remains robust to the use of PSM and instrumental variable methods to address endogeneity. Digital transformation reduces firms' dependence on large customers through three mechanisms: improving firms' innovation capabilities, reducing firms' operating costs, and increasing customer satisfaction. The impact of digital transformation on reducing the dependence of non-state enterprises on large customers is greater than that of state-owned enterprises; the implementation of digital transformation strategies is more helpful for enterprises that have active interactions with customers to reduce their customer concentration; and the reduction of customer concentration is greater for enterprises in regions with higher levels of digital development compared to those in regions with lower levels of digital development. The economic consequence test finds that digital transformation diversifies customer structure and reduces business risks. The analysis of the innovation effect and customer satisfaction effect on reducing the concentration of large customers of enterprisesby implementing digital transformation enriches and expands the dynamic capability theory and provides important insights for enterprises to diversify their customer structure.

RESUMO

Based on the dynamic capability theory, this research investigated the effect of a high-performance work system on organizational performance, the mediating role of strategic flexibility, and the moderating role of an enterprise's social network in this relationship. A total of 214 middle and senior managers from 58 Chinese enterprises were invited to participate in this research. The results showed that the high-performance work system is positively correlated with organizational performance and such correlation is partially mediated by strategic flexibility. Results found that the social network of an enterprise negatively moderated the relationship between a high-performance work system and strategic flexibility. However, the social network did not moderate the mediating role of strategic flexibility in high-performance work systems (HPWS) and organizational performance.
