Complex biomolecules absorb in the mid-infrared (lambda = 2-20 microm), giving vibrational spectra associated with structure and function. We used Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy to "fingerprint" locations along the length of human small and large intestinal crypts.
