In the current study, the bottlebrush [Callistemon viminalis (Sol. ex Gaertn.) G. Don] plant was selected for the green synthesis of silver (Ag) and gold (Au) nanoparticles and to evaluate its antibacterial and antifungal activities. Phytochemical screening of C. viminalis confirmed the presence of alkaloids, anthraquinones, saponins, tannins, betacyanins, phlobatanins, coumarins, terpenoids, steroids, glycosides, and proteins. To characterize the synthesized Ag and Au NPs, UV-Visible spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy for functional group identification, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) for particle size, and elemental analysis were performed using EDX. The UV-Visible absorption spectra of the green-synthesized Ag and Au nanoparticles were found to have a maximum absorption band at 420 nm for Ag NPs and 525 nm for Au NPs. FE-SEM analysis of the synthesized NPs revealed a circular shape with a size of 100 nm. Elemental analysis was performed for the synthesis of Ag and Au NPs, which confirmed the purity of the nanoparticles. The greenly synthesized Ag and Au NPs were also evaluated for their anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities, which exhibited prominent inhibition activities against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, C. krusei, Aspergillus sp., and Trichoderma species. The highest zone of inhibition 15.5 ± 0.75 and 15 ± 0.85 mm was observed for Ag NPs against E. coli and P. aeruginosa. Similarly, Trichoderma sp. and Aspergillus sp. were inhibited by Ag NPs up to 13.5 ± 0.95 and 13 ± 0.70 mm. This work will open doors for the development of new antimicrobial agents using green chemistry.

In this work, we investigated Diospyros kaki extract and an isolated compound for their potential as xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitors, a target enzyme involved in inflammatory disorders. The prepared extract was subjected to column chromatography, and dinaphthodiospyrol S was isolated. Then XO inhibitory properties were assessed using a spectrophotometry microplate reader. DMSO was taken as a negative control, and allopurinol was used as a standard drug. The molecular docking study of the isolated compound to the XO active site was performed, followed by visualization and protein-ligand interaction. The defatted chloroform extract showed the highest inhibitory effect, followed by the chloroform extract and the isolated compound. The isolated compound exhibited significant inhibitory activity against XO with an IC50 value of 1.09 µM. Molecular docking studies showed that the compound strongly interacts with XO, forming hydrogen bond interactions with Arg149 and Cys113 and H-pi interactions with Cys116 and Leu147. The binding score of -7.678 kcal/mol further supported the potential of the isolated compound as an XO inhibitor. The quantum chemical procedures were used to study the electronic behavior of dinaphthodiospyrol S isolated from D. kaki. Frontier molecular orbital (FMO) analysis was performed to understand the distribution of electronic density, highest occupied molecular orbital HOMO, lowest unoccupied molecular orbital LUMO, and energy gaps. The values of HOMO, LUMO, and energy gap were found to be -6.39, -3.51 and 2.88 eV respectively. The FMO results indicated the intramolecular charge transfer. Moreover, reactivity descriptors were also determined to confirm the stability of the compound. The molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) investigation was done to analyze the electrophilic and nucleophilic sites within a molecule. The oxygen atoms in the compound exhibited negative potential, indicating that they are favorable sites for electrophilic attacks. The results indicate its potential as a therapeutic agent for related disorders. Further studies are needed to investigate this compound's in vivo efficacy and safety as a potential drug candidate.

The field of bio-fabricated noble metallic nanoparticles (NPs) has gained significant attention in applied research due to their eco-friendly and biocompatible nature. This study focuses on employing a green synthesis method to produce silver and gold nanoparticles (bio-fabricated) using a Mangrove plant extract and assessing their insecticidal and growth-inhibitory effects for environmentally friendly pest control. The resulting NPs underwent comprehensive characterization through various spectroscopy techniques. The morphology of both silver and gold mediated nanoparticles of Avicennia marina leaf extract displayed a spherical shape, with average sizes measuring around 70-80 nm and 95-100 nm, respectively. Regarding cytotoxicity, the inhibitory effects of silver nanoparticles were less than that observed by the extract alone while gold nanoparticles showed stronger cell growth inhibitory effects on splenic cells. The hepatic toxicity of silver and gold nanoparticles showed significant toxic effects as compared to A. marina extract alone. Notably, as prepared silver nanoparticles exhibited substantial larvicidal toxicity as compared to gold nanoparticles, when tested against fourth instar Culex pipiens larvae. These biocompatible silver and gold nanoparticles prepared from A. marina leaf extract hold promise for future applications as larvicides to effectively control mosquito species.

BACKGROUND: Primary lymphoma of the liver, gallbladder, and extrahepatic bile ducts or secondary involvement of these organs by leukemia is exceedingly rare. Patients with primary lymphoma or leukemic involvement of the biliary tract and liver often present with symptoms and signs of biliary tract obstruction or inflammation. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a 24-year-old male with biliary tract symptoms who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. His precholecystectomy complete blood count performed on the same morning showed 72% lymphocytes while peripheral blood smears showed approximately 15% blasts. Surgeon went ahead with the procedure. Imaging done prior to surgery showed thickened gallbladder, while the liver, biliary tract, and pancreas did not show any thickening or mass lesion. However, the liver was enlarged. Grossly, the gallbladder wall did not show any stones or discrete mass involving the wall. Instead, there was subtle thickening of the gallbladder wall due to diffuse infiltration by the leukemic infiltrate. This lymphoid population reacted with PAX-5 and TdT immunohistochemical antibodies in a diffuse manner confirming precursor B-cell origin. This patient was found to have B-lymphoblastic leukemia involving his bone marrow on further clinical and diagnostic workup. Patient responded well to chemotherapy and is currently on maintenance treatment. He is well 1.5 years after his diagnosis. CONCLUSION: This case highlights a unique and rare scenario where a previously undiagnosed and unsuspected hematologic malignancy initially presented with clinical features of a chronic inflammatory condition involving an abdominal organ owing to secondary involvement by the malignant infiltrate.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This study aims to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of wearable devices for AF detection in older adults, as well as examine the incidence of AF across various studies, contextual factors impacting AF detection, and safety and adverse events associated with wearable use. RECENT FINDINGS: A systematic search of three databases identified 30 studies on wearables for AF detection in older adults, encompassing 111,798 participants. Both PPG-based and single-lead electrocardiography-based wearables show scalable potential for screening and managing AF. The results of this systematic review demonstrate that wearable devices, such as smartwatches, can effectively identify arrhythmias like AF in older adults, with scalable potential in PPG-based and single-lead electrocardiography-based wearables. As wearable technologies continue to gain prominence in healthcare, it is crucial to understand their challenges and incorporate them as preventative and monitoring tools for AF detection in elderly populations to improve patient care and prevention techniques.

Edible mushrooms are popular functional foods attributed to their rich nutritional bioactive constituent profile influencing cardiovascular function. Edible mushrooms are omnipresent in various prescribed Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, Mediterranean diet, and fortified meal plans as they are rich in amino acids, dietary fiber, proteins, sterols, vitamins, and minerals. However, without an understanding of the influence of mushroom bioactive constituents, mechanism of action on heart and allergenicity, it is difficult to fully comprehend the role of mushrooms as dietary interventions in alleviating hypertension and other cardiovascular malfunctions. To accomplish this endeavor, we chose to review edible mushrooms and their bioactive constituents in ameliorating hypertension. Hypertension and cardiovascular diseases are interrelated and if the former is managed by dietary changes, it is postulated that overall heart health could also be improved. With a concise note on different edible varieties of mushrooms, a particular focus is presented on the antihypertensive potential of mushroom bioactive constituents, mode of action, absorption kinetics and bioavailability. Ergosterol, lovastatin, cordycepin, tocopherols, chitosan, ergothioneine, γ-aminobutyric acid, quercetin, and eritadenine are described as essential bioactives with hypotensive effects. Finally, safety concerns on allergens and limitations of consuming edible mushrooms with special reference to chemical toxins and their postulated metabolites are highlighted. It is opined that the present review will redirect toxicologists to further investigate mushroom bioactives and allergens, thereby influencing dietary interventions for heart health.

Intraocular medulloepithelioma is a rare, congenital tumour of the non-pigmented ciliary epithelium. It most frequently arises from the ciliary body but can also have its origin from the retina, iris and optic nerve. The age when lesion first appears is typically around 2-10 years. Nearly 50-60% of patients having this lesion may also have secondary features such as cataract and neovascular glaucoma. Those with extrascleral medulloepithelioma are at risk for metastasis. Systemic correlation of the tumour with pleuropulmonary blastoma/DICER1 gene is reported in the literature. Here, we report a case of a 15 years old boy with one year history of right eye proptosis and painful red right eye along with decreased vision for one week. He was assessed and operated for cataract elsewhere three years back. The ophthalmology team managed him for endophthalmitis with intravenous antibiotics, followed by 2 sessions of cryotherapy and finally an enucleation of right eye was performed due to severe pain and no vision in the involved eye. His left eye, general physical examination and systemic evaluation were normal. Histopathology revealed the diagnosis of 'malignant teratoid medulloepithelioma'. Therefore, evaluation of systemic associations for DICER1 gene mutations was performed by the oncology team. For high risk feature of scleral invasion on histopathology, he was treated with chemotherapy. Since the tumour is of rare occurrence; an international expert team with vast research experience in PPB/DICER1 associated tumours was also contacted. He was registered in International PPB/DICER1 registry where a detailed central radiology and pathology review was performed. Genetic counseling and surveillance plan was also suggested by the international registry.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Environmental enteric dysfunction (EED) limits the Sustainable Development Goals of improved childhood growth and survival. We applied mucosal genomics to advance our understanding of EED. METHODS: The Study of Environmental Enteropathy and Malnutrition (SEEM) followed 416 children from birth to 24 months in a rural district in Pakistan. Biomarkers were measured at 9 months and tested for association with growth at 24 months. The duodenal methylome and transcriptome were determined in 52 undernourished SEEM participants and 42 North American controls and patients with celiac disease. RESULTS: After accounting for growth at study entry, circulating insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and ferritin predicted linear growth, whereas leptin correlated with future weight gain. The EED transcriptome exhibited suppression of antioxidant, detoxification, and lipid metabolism genes, and induction of anti-microbial response, interferon, and lymphocyte activation genes. Relative to celiac disease, suppression of antioxidant and detoxification genes and induction of antimicrobial response genes were EED-specific. At the epigenetic level, EED showed hyper-methylation of epithelial metabolism and barrier function genes, and hypo-methylation of immune response and cell proliferation genes. Duodenal coexpression modules showed association between lymphocyte proliferation and epithelial metabolic genes and histologic severity, fecal energy loss, and wasting (weight-for-length/height Z < -2.0). Leptin was associated with expression of epithelial carbohydrate metabolism and stem cell renewal genes. Immune response genes were attenuated by giardia colonization. CONCLUSIONS: Children with reduced circulating IGF-1 are more likely to experience stunting. Leptin and a gene signature for lymphocyte activation and dysregulated lipid metabolism are implicated in wasting, suggesting new approaches for EED refractory to nutritional intervention. BACKGROUND: Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is one of the most aggressive malignancies with extremely low survival rate. Studies have shown that the exploration of key genes can provide a basis for targeted treatment of these patients. The genomic architecture of the Pakistani pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients remains unexplored. Keeping the scenario in place, the current study aims to analyse 88 cancer related genes in Pakistani pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients in order to elucidate candidate gene(s) for targeted molecular therapy. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total 18 patients were included in the study initially and FFPE tumor samples were obtained. After confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate tumor content, DNA was extracted. Based on the quality and quantity of the extracted DNA, six pancreatic adenocarcinoma tumor samples were selected. Following to this, all the samples were subjected to targeted sequencing (Axen Cancer Panel 1). Variant detection was done and clinical significance of identified variants was assessed using ClinVar database. Targeted sequencing of tumor samples revealed a total of 29 alterations in the coding region of various genes. Among these five pathogenic variants were found in KRAS, BRCA1, TP53 and APC genes. CONCLUSION: This is the first study that explores genes involved in pancreatic adenocarcinoma from the Pakistani population. Results obtained from the pilot study can guide us about the key genetic players in the Pakistani pancreatic adenocarcinoma population. This can lead to our better understanding of the molecular targeted therapies for these patients and designing future researches on larger sample size.

Dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitors, often known as gliptins, have been used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). They may be combined with other medications as an additional treatment or used alone as a monotherapy. In addition to insulin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, and metformin, these molecules appear as possible therapeutic options. Oxadiazole rings have been employed in numerous different ways during drug development efforts. It has been shown that including them in the pharmacophore increases the amount of ligand that may be bound. The exceptional hydrogen bond acceptor properties of oxadiazoles and the distinct hydrocarbon bonding potential of their regioisomers have been established. Beside their anti-diabetic effects, oxadiazoles display a wide range of pharmacological properties. In this study, we made the assumption that molecules containing oxadiazole rings may afford a different approach to the treatment of diabetes, not only for controlling glycemic levels but also for preventing atherosclerosis progression and other complications associated with diabetes. It was observed that oxadiazole fusion with benzothiazole, 5-(2,5,2-trifluoroethoxy) phenyl, ß-homophenylalanine, 2-methyl-2-{5-(4-chlorophenyl), diamine-bridged bis-coumarinyl, 5-aryl-2-(6'-nitrobenzofuran-2'-yl), nitrobenzofuran, and/or oxindole leads to potential anti-diabetic activity.

RESUMEN

A brain tumor (BT) is a condition in which there is growth or uncontrolled development of the brain cells, which usually goes unrecognized or is diagnosed at the later stages. Since the mechanism behind BT is not clear, and the various physiological conditions are difficult to diagnose, the success rate of BT is not very high. This is the central issue faced during drug development and clinical trials with almost all types of neurodegenerative disorders. In the first part of this review, we focus on the concept of brain tumors, their barriers, and the types of delivery possible to target the brain cells. Although various treatment methods are available, they all have side effects or toxic effects. Hence, in the second part, a correlation was made between the use of resveratrol, a potent antioxidant, and its advantages for brain diseases. The relationship between brain disease and the blood-brain barrier, multi-drug resistance, and the use of nanomedicine for treating brain disorders is also mentioned. In short, a hypothetical concept is given with a background investigation into the use of combination therapy with resveratrol as an active ingredient, the possible drug delivery, and its formulation-based approach.

RESUMEN

A perfect absorber in the visible-infrared regime maintaining its performance at elevated temperatures and under a harsh environment is needed for energy harvesting using solar-thermophotovoltaic (STPV) systems. A near-perfect metasurface absorber based on lossy refractory metal nitride, zirconium-nitride (ZrN), having a melting-point of 2,980°C, is presented. The numerically proposed design with metal-insulator-metal configuration exhibits an average of > 95% for 400-800 nm and 86% for 280-2200 nm. High absorption is attributed to magnetic resonance leading to free-space impedance matching. The subwavelength structure is polarization- and angle-insensitive and is highly tolerant to fabrication imperfections. An emitter is optimized for bandgap energy ranging from 0.7 eV-1.9 eV.

BACKGROUND: Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) metastasizes in approximately 20-30% cases. The most common sites for metastases are the lungs, bones, liver, and brain. Metastases of RCC in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) are very rare. Metastatic RCC has a poor prognosis. We herein present a case series of three patients with metastatic disease in the colon, duodenum, and pancreas following complete resection of RCC. METHODS: Hematoxylin and Eosin and immunohistochemical slides of 3 cases of RCC metastatic to GIT were reviewed. These cases were diagnosed between 2002 and 2019 at French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC), Kabul, Afghanistan, and Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Karachi, Pakistan. We also present a detailed review of published literature. RESULTS: We reviewed cases of three patients, two females and one male, with a mean age of 57.3 years (range 40-67 years) who underwent nephrectomy for RCC. They developed metastases in the colon, pancreas, and duodenum, respectively 12-168 months (median time 156 months) following primary tumor resection. The patient with metastatic RCC in colon presented with abdominal pain and constipation. An ulcerated mass was found on colonoscopy 30 cm from the anal verge. Diagnosis of RCC with rhabdoid features was confirmed in both primary and metastatic tumors. The second patient developed a metastatic nodule in the head of pancreatic while the third patient developed metastatic nodules in the duodenum and pancreas which were detected by Computed Tomography (CT) scanning. Histopathological examination confirmed the presence of clear cell RCC in the metastatic nodules in both cases. CONCLUSION: Metastatic RCC should be considered in the differential diagnosis of mass in the gastrointestinal (including pancreaticobiliary) tract especially in presence of a past history of RCC. These patients should be screened thoroughly by physical examination and appropriate imaging studies.

BACKGROUND: Gliosarcoma is a rare variant of IDH- wild type glioblastoma with both glial and mesenchymal differentiation. It accounts for approximately 2% of glioblastomas and has a poor prognosis similar to that of classic glioblastoma. It is seen mostly between 40 and 60 years of age with a mean age over 50 years. Pediatric gliosarcoma is even rarer than gliosarcoma in adults. We describe the clinicopathological features of gliosarcoma in patients under 20 years of age and determine whether there are significant differences from gliosarcoma in adults. We also present detailed review of published literature on pediatric gliosarcoma. METHODS: Slides of gliosarcomas in patients under 20 years of age were reviewed. Clinicopathological features were noted in detail and follow up was obtained. RESULTS: Eleven cases of gliosarcoma were reported in patients under 20 years of age. Ages ranged from three to 19 years (mean age 13 years). Frontal, parietal and temporal lobes were the commonest locations. Mean and median tumor size was six and five cm respectively. All 11 cases demonstrated the classic biphasic pattern. In 10 cases, glial component was astrocytic and was highlighted on GFAP. Sarcomatous component in most cases resembled fibrosarcoma and was high grade in 72.7%. Glial areas were reticulin poor while sarcomatous areas were reticulin rich. In over 45% cases, bizarre tumor giant cells were seen in the sarcomatous areas. In 1 case, sarcomatous areas showed extensive bone and cartilage formation. Other histologic features included hyalinized blood vessels, hemorrhage, infarction, gemistocytic cells, rhabdoid cells etc. Follow up was available in nine patients, five received chemoradiation post resection while three received radiotherapy only. Prognosis was dismal and eight patients died within one to 14 months following resection. CONCLUSIONS: Gliosarcomas in patients under 20 comprised 13% of all gliosarcomas reported during the study period. Frequency and mean age were higher compared to other published reports. Pathological features were similar to those described in literature. Clinicopathological features and prognosis of pediatric gliosarcomas were similar to adult gliosarcomas.

INTRODUCTION: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), along with thyroid ultrasound, is an important tool in evaluation of thyroid nodules that helps in further management of these patients in making a decision of surgical intervention vs follow-up. The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology category III of atypia of undetermined significance/follicular lesion of undetermined significance (AUS/FLUS) has risk of malignancy (ROM) ranging from 5% to 15%. The aim of the present study was to describe the frequency of AUS/FLUS in thyroid gland FNACs and the surgical outcomes of these cases. METHODS: The integrated laboratory management system retrieved the thyroid FNACs from 2010 to 2018 and subsequent surgical pathology specimens. For the AUS/FLUS cases, data regarding patient demographics, cytology and histological diagnoses were recorded. The results were tabulated as the overall frequency of AUS/FLUS in thyroid FNACs, cytohistological correlation (benign and malignant) and ROM. RESULTS: Over a period of 9 years, 256 (10.9%) cases out of 2342 thyroid FNACs were reported as AUS/FLUS at our institution. Mean age was 43.5 years. The majority (70.3%) of patients were female. Seventy-two of 104 resection specimens (69.2%) were reported as benign and 32 cases (30.7%) had malignant diagnosis. Upper-bound ROM was 30.7% (32 cases with malignant diagnosis out of 104 resection specimens). Lower-bound ROM was calculated as 12.5% (32 cases with malignant diagnosis out of 256 total AUS diagnosis). CONCLUSION: The AUS/FLUS category of thyroid cytology and associated ROM remain an evolving area. Individual institutions should monitor the frequency and include ROM in the dashboard indicators to remain within the recommended range.

Calcification and ossification are uncommon in schwannomas; however, when present these findings may cause diagnostic confusion with other mesenchymal tumors which more frequently harbor these features. We sought to better characterize the type and rate of calcification and ossification in schwannomas. Cases of schwannoma diagnosed at our institution from 2005 to 2019 were reviewed to determine the type and amount of calcification and ossification present. Of 2116 total cases of schwannoma reported during the study period, 38 cases harbored calcification or ossification per the pathology report. Thirty-two of the 38 cases had slides available for review, of which 27 (84.3%) showed calcification, nine showed ossification (28.1%), and four (12.5%) cases demonstrated both. Foci of ossification typically occurred adjacent to large vessels. Of the 27 cases showing calcification, coarse dystrophic calcification was seen in 22 cases, psammomatous calcification in nine cases, and combined dystrophic and psammomatous calcification was seen in four cases. Cases with psammomatous calcification predominantly occurred in spinal roots and cerebellopontine angle of a younger age group with almost equal gender distribution. All four cases tested for protein kinase cyclic adenosine monophosphate-dependent type I regulatory subunit alpha immunohistochemical stain demonstrated retained expression. We confirm that calcification and ossification are rare findings in schwannoma. Awareness that these features may be present in these tumors will prevent misdiagnosis and ensure appropriate clinical management.

OBJECTIVES: Follicular Dendritic Cell Sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare neoplastic proliferation of dendritic cells which are immune accessory cells found in both lymphoid and non-lymphoid organs. FDCS can thus occur in lymph nodes as well as non-lymphoid organs. Intraabdominal FDCS is even rarer. Our aim was to describe the clinical and morphological features of intra-abdominal FDCSs diagnosed in our practice and to review published literature on FDCSs including intra-abdominal FDCSs. METHODS: All cases of FDCSs diagnosed between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2019 were included in the study. Slides of the cases were reviewed and clinical follow up was obtained. RESULTS: A total of 18 cases of intraabdominal FDCS were diagnosed during the study period. Age range was 17 to 55 years. Mean and median ages were 28 and 29 years respectively. Of the 18 patients, 11 were male and 7 were females. Colon was involved in 9 cases and appendix in 2 cases. 9 cases were received as resection specimens while 9 cases were received as slides and blocks for second opinion. Tumor size ranged from 2.7 to 26 cm. Average tumor size in these 9 cases was 8.2 cm and in 6 of these 9 cases, tumor size was greater than 6 cm in largest dimension. Grossly, tumors were nodular or polypoid and had a fleshy, grey white, homogeneous cut surface. Histologically, all 18 cases showed proliferation of plump to spindle shaped cells arranged in a fascicular or storiform pattern. Tumor cells had mild to moderately pleomorphic spindle to ovoid vesicular nuclei with fine chromatin and inconspicuous to variably conspicuous nucleoli, and moderate amount of pale eosinophilic cytoplasm. Mitotic activity was usually brisk. CD21 and CD23 were positive in all 18 cases. Resection margins were negative in all 9 resection specimens. Lymph nodes positive for metastases were seen in 4 cases. Follow up was available in 13 cases. Recurrence was seen in 6 patients, out of which 3 patients died of disease 15, 17- and 24-months following resection. 1 patient with appendiceal FDCS was free of disease almost 12 years after surgery but recently developed recurrence and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. 6 patients were alive and well at the time of follow-up 5 to 68 months after resection. None of them had developed recurrence or metastases at the time of follow up. 8 of the 13 patients received chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy post-surgical resection. CONCLUSION: Colon was involved in 9 of our 18 cases. Lymph nodes were positive for metastases in 4 out of 9 resection specimens. All cases were diagnosed based on morphology supported by positivity for immunohistochemical stains CD21 and CD23. Histological factors associated with aggressive behavior were seen in 14 cases. Majority of patients had an aggressive clinical course.

The expedient way for the development of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) based devices are based on two key steps. First, perform the simulation for the optimization of various parameters by using different simulation tools that lead to cost reduction. Second, develop the devices with accurate fabrication steps using optimized parameters. Here, authors have performed a piezoelectric analysis of an array of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures that have been created on both sides of aluminum sheets. Various quantities like swerve, stress, strain, electric flux, energy distribution, and electric potential have been studied during the piezo analysis. Then actual controlled growth of ZnO nanorods (NRs) arrays was done on both sides of the etched aluminum rod at low-temperature using the chemical bath deposition (CBD) method for the development of a MEMS energy harvester. Micro creaks on the substrate acted as an alternative to the seed layer. The testing was performed by applying ambient range force on the nanostructure. It was found that the voltage range on topside was 0.59 to 0.62 mV, and the bottom side was 0.52 to 0.55 mV. These kinds of devices are useful in low power micro-devices, nanoelectromechanical systems, and smart wearable systems.

The demand of devices for safe mobility of blind people is increasing with advancement in wireless communication. Artificial intelligent devices with multiple input and output methods are used for reliable data estimation based on maximum probability. A model of a smart home for safe and robust mobility of blind people has been proposed. Fuzzy logic has been used for simulation. Outputs from the internet of things (IoT) devices comprising sensors and bluetooth are taken as input of the fuzzy controller. Rules have been developed based on the conditions and requirements of the blind person to generate decisions as output. These outputs are communicated through IoT devices to assist the blind person or user for safe movement. The proposed system provides the user with easy navigation and obstacle avoidance.

Despite the remarkable progress in perovskite solar cells (PSCs), their instability and rapid degradation over time still restrict their commercialization. A 2D capping layer has been proved to overcome the stability issues; however, an in-depth understanding of the complex degradation processes over a prolonged time at PSC interfaces is crucial for improving their stability. In the current work, we investigated the stability of a triple cation 3D ([(FA0.83MA0.17)Cs0.05]Pb(I0.83Br0.17)3) and 2D/3D PSC fabricated by a layer-by-layer deposition technique (PEAI-based 2D layer over triple cation 3D perovskite) using a state-of-art characterization technique: electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). A long-term stability test over 24 months was performed on the 3D and 2D/3D PSCs with an initial PCE of 18.87% and 20.21%, respectively, to suggest a more practical scenario. The current-voltage (J-V) and EIS results showed degradation in both the solar cell types; however, a slower degradation rate was observed in 2D/3D PSCs. Finally, the quantitative analysis of the key EIS parameters affected by the degradation in 3D and 2D/3D PSCs were discussed.
