RESUMEN

18ß-Glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) is an oleane-type pentacyclic triterpene saponin obtained from glycyrrhizic acid by removing 2 glucuronic acid groups. GA and its analogues are active substances of glycyrrhiza aicd, with similar structure and important pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetes, anti-tumor and anti-fibrosis. Although GA combined compounds are in the clinical trial stages, its application potential is severely restricted by its low bioavailability, water solubility and membrane permeability. In this article, synthetic methods and structure-activity relationships (SARs) of GA derivatives from 2018 to present are reviewed based on pharmacological activity. It is hoped that this review can provide reference for the future development of potential GA preclinical candidate compounds, and furnish ideas for the development of pentacyclic triterpenoid lead compounds.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The study aimed to examine the consistency of vertebral bone quality (VBQ) scores for assessing osteoporosis across different etiologies and explore the predictive value of various VBQ scores for fragility vertebral fractures. METHODS: Patients with fragility fractures were matched by age and sex to patients with lumbar degeneration. VBQ scores were calculated in T1- and T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. Differential analysis of bone quality was performed based on etiology. RESULTS: A total of 96 inpatients were retrospectively enrolled. VBQT1 scores were only sensitive to osteoporotic bone in degenerative group (p < 0.01), failing to identify osteoporosis in fractured group (p > 0.05). For the degenerative group, the area under the curve (AUC) using the VBQT1 scores to differentiate osteoporosis was 0.72. After controlling the confounding variables, only VBQT2 scores were significantly higher in fractured group than degenerative group, with a greater AUC of 0.82 predicting fragility fractures. VBQT1 scores moderately correlated with femoral neck T-scores in degenerative group (r = -0.45, p < 0.01) but not in fractured group (r = -0.24, p > 0.05). VBQT2 scores were not associated with femoral neck T-scores (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study is the first to evaluate the effectiveness of VBQs scores in assessing osteoporosis post-fracture. Only non-fractured patients' bone quality is fully susceptible to VBQT1 scores. While VBQT1 scores may not correlate with fragility fractures, VBQT2 scores present a viable alternative.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To compare the morphometry of paraspinal muscles in patients with degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS), isthmic spondylolisthesis (IS), and healthy individuals. METHODS: Thirty-seven pairs of DS patients were selected using propensity score matching with IS patients, while 37 healthy individuals matched for age, sex, and BMI were selected as controls. The relative cross-sectional area (rCSA), and relative functional cross-sectional area (rfCSA) of paraspinal muscles were measured, and the degree of fatty infiltration (FI) was calculated. Based on occupational differences, the patients were also divided into worker and farmer groups, and the same measurements were taken on them. RESULTS: At the L3/L4 level, the multifidus (MF) FI was greater in the DS and IS groups than in the control group, the erector spinae (ES) rfCSA was higher in the IS group than in the DS and control groups. At the L4/L5 level, MF rfCSA was smaller in the DS and IS groups than in the control group; ES rfCSA was higher in the IS group than in the DS and control groups. At the L5/S1 level, MF rfCSA was smaller in the DS and IS groups than in the control group; ES rfCSA was higher in the IS group than in the DS group. At the L3/L4, L4/L5 level, MF rfCSA were higher in the worker group than in the farmer group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The morphological changes in paraspinal muscles in patients with DS were dominated by selective atrophy of the MF, while in patients with IS, the morphological changes in paraspinal muscle showed selective atrophy of the MF accompanied by compensatory hypertrophy of the ES. The surgeon should consider the morphological differences in paraspinal muscle between different types of lumbar spondylolisthesis when establishing the appropriate surgical program.

RESUMEN

In recent years, the rapid development of modern society is calling for advanced energy storage to meet the growing demands of energy supply and generation. As one of the most promising energy storage systems, secondary batteries are attracting much attention. The electrolyte is an important part of the secondary battery, and its composition is closely related to the electrochemical performance of the secondary batteries. Lithium-ion battery electrolyte is mainly composed of solvents, additives, and lithium salts, which are prepared according to specific proportions under certain conditions and according to the needs of characteristics. This review analyzes the advantages and current problems of the liquid electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) from the mechanism of action and failure mechanism, summarizes the research progress of solvents, lithium salts, and additives, analyzes the future trends and requirements of lithium-ion battery electrolytes, and points out the emerging opportunities in advanced lithium-ion battery electrolytes development.

RESUMEN

Integrative taxonomy is central to modern taxonomy and systematic biology, including behavior, niche preference, distribution, morphological analysis, and DNA barcoding. However, decades of use demonstrate that these methods can face challenges when used in isolation, for instance, potential misidentifications due to phenotypic plasticity for morphological methods, and incorrect identifications because of introgression, incomplete lineage sorting, and horizontal gene transfer for DNA barcoding. Although researchers have advocated the use of integrative taxonomy, few detailed algorithms have been proposed. Here, we develop a convolutional neural network method (morphology-molecule network [MMNet]) that integrates morphological and molecular data for species identification. The newly proposed method (MMNet) worked better than four currently available alternative methods when tested with 10 independent data sets representing varying genetic diversity from different taxa. High accuracies were achieved for all groups, including beetles (98.1% of 123 species), butterflies (98.8% of 24 species), fishes (96.3% of 214 species), and moths (96.4% of 150 total species). Further, MMNet demonstrated a high degree of accuracy ($>$98%) in four data sets including closely related species from the same genus. The average accuracy of two modest subgenomic (single nucleotide polymorphism) data sets, comprising eight putative subspecies respectively, is 90%. Additional tests show that the success rate of species identification under this method most strongly depends on the amount of training data, and is robust to sequence length and image size. Analyses on the contribution of different data types (image vs. gene) indicate that both morphological and genetic data are important to the model, and that genetic data contribute slightly more. The approaches developed here serve as a foundation for the future integration of multimodal information for integrative taxonomy, such as image, audio, video, 3D scanning, and biosensor data, to characterize organisms more comprehensively as a basis for improved investigation, monitoring, and conservation of biodiversity. [Convolutional neural network; deep learning; integrative taxonomy; single nucleotide polymorphism; species identification.].

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aniline poisoning is considered to be an important factor mediating the development and progression of male bladder cancer, and long non-coding RNA(lncRNA)has also been shown to affect the prognosis of male bladder cancer. Therefore, this study intended to screen and identify lncrnas associated with highly sensitive aniline poisoning of male bladder cancer, and to construct a tumor risk prediction model accordingly. METHODS: Gene expression and clinical data from 410 tissues were downloaded from the Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA),and all samples were randomly divided into training and testing groups.Lncrnas associated with aniline poisoning were distinguished. We then performed univariate COX and multivariate COX regressions,in parallel with LASSO regression,to establish a lncRNA risk model associated with aniline poisoning.Kaplan-Meier curve,scatterplot,C-index,ROCcurve,nomogram,PCAanalysis,and univariate and multivariate Cox regression were used to test the accuracy of the risk model and predict patient survival. RESULTS: Seven lncrnas associated with aniline poisoning(LINC01184, LINC00513,LINC02443,SMARCA5-AS1,BDNF-AS,SOD2-OT1,HYI-AS1)were screened and identified, and based on this,a risk prediction model with high sensitivity to the malignant progression of bladder cancer was constructed. It is also verified that the model can effectively predict the overall survival(OS)of the test group and the whole cohort at different stages. CONCLUSIONS: We identified 7 lncrnas associated with aniline poisoning and established a novel risk model of lncrnas associated with aniline poisoning, which provides new insights for prognosis assessment and may guide the comprehensive treatment of male bladder cancer.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To identify the ideal entry point for pediatric C2 pedicle screw and to obtain parameters of it for the indication of pediatric atlantoaxial fusion arthrodesis. METHODS: The pediatric cervical CT images were reconstructed into the 3D digital models and the C2 vertebrae were separated. The location of ideal entry point and screw placement related linear and angular parameters were assessed on the 3D digital models. RESULTS: A total of 214 pedicles from 107 C2 digital models were analyzed. The average entry point for C2 was 3.80 ± 2.78 mm medial to the lateral notch (LN) and 2.57 ± 1.70 mm superior to the LN. The average pedicle diameter (PD) was 6.02 ± 1.31 mm, and the average pedicle screw length (PSL) was 25.63 ± 3.46 mm. Statistical differences were found between different sex for PD and PSL (P < 0.05). As patient age increases, using the most lateral and inferior edge of the lateral mass as a reference marker, the entry point tends to move medial and cephalad, when using the LN as a reference marker, the entry point tends to move medial and slightly caudad. Univariate linear regression analysis suggested that these linear parameters were associated with age (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: In this study, we found that the measurement results of C2 pedicle screw varied based on sex, laterality, and ages for children younger than 18 years. The entry point of the screws facilitating ideal trajectory tends to change in a linear way as a function of age. This information helps the surgeon to establish the specific anatomy related to C2 pedicle screw placement to facilitate fixation in the pediatric patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: From a biomechanical point of view, pedicle screws (PS) are better than other kinds of screws for implantation in the seventh cervical vertebra (C7). However, the application of PS is limited because of the high risk of severe complications. It is essential to define the optimal entry point and trajectory. The aim of this study was to comprehensively analyze the starting point and trajectory for C7 PS insertion using three dimensional (3D) models. METHODS: Overall, 60 subjects aged 18 to 67 years old were included. All CT images were used to construct 3D computer models of the C7 vertebrae. A new coordinate system was established for the next evaluation. The pedicle axis was calculated with respect to the entire pedicle; then, the ideal entry point, screw diameter and length, sagittal angle and lateral angle were assessed. RESULTS: All the ideal entry points were located at the medial superior to lateral notch (LN), and the mean distance between the entry point and LN was 5.86 ± 1.67 mm in the horizontal direction and 3.47 ± 1.57 mm in the vertical direction. The mean distance between the entry point and the middle point of the inferior edge of the C6 articular process (MP) was 0.74 ± 1.83 mm in the horizontal direction. The mean sagittal angle of the pedicle axis was 90.42°, and the mean pedicle transverse angle was 30.70°. The average diameter and length of the PS were 6.51 ± 0.76 mm and 31.58 ± 4.40 mm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This study provided a novel method to calculate the ideal starting point and trajectory for C7 PS insertion. These measurements may be helpful for preoperative planning. It is recommended that 3D CT imaging is used preoperatively to carefully evaluate the anatomy of each individual.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Anaemia is prevalent in children. Therefore, this study examined the association between dietary patterns and anaemia among children in central South China. METHODS: Cross-sectional studies were conducted in Mayang, central South China, in 2015 and 2018. Diet data were collected using a questionnaire, and dietary patterns were identified via exploratory factor analysis. Haemoglobin was measured to assess anaemia status. Associations between dietary patterns and anaemia were assessed using a logistic regression model. RESULTS: The mean age of the infants surveyed was 14.06 months in 2015 and 16.58 months in 2018. Four dietary patterns were identified among infants aged 6-23 months: a diversified diet consisting mainly of tubers, dairy products, beans and bean products; a traditional diet consisting mainly of cereals, water, soup, vegetables and fruit; mainly breast milk, with a little powdered formula; or mainly multi-nutrient powders. The prevalence of anaemia in infants decreased from 29.49% in 2015 to 20.26% in 2018.In infants fed a diversified diet or multi-nutrient powders with top-quartile (Q4) scores, the risk of anaemia was reduced by 45%(adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 0.55, 95%CI0.30-0.99, P = 0.047) or 59% (AOR = 0.41, 95% CI0.22-0.78, P = 0.006), respectively, compared to infants in the lowest quartile (Q1). Infants fed mainly breast milk had a 3.26-fold greater risk of anaemia compared to those with Q1 scores (AOR = 3.26, 95% CI 1.83-5.81, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Four dietary patterns were identified among infants aged 6-23 months in central South China. Infants should be fed a variety of food groups to improve their anaemia status.

RESUMEN

In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of a white tussock moth, Laelia suffusa (Walker, 1855) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae, Lymantriinae), was sequenced and annotated. The genome sequence was 15,502 bp in length and comprised 13 PCGs, 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a single noncoding control region (CR). The nucleotide composition of the genome was highly A + T biased, accounting for 79.04% of the whole genome and with a slightly positive AT skewness (0.015). Comparing the gene order with the basal species of Lepidoptera, a typical trnM rearrangement was detected in the mitogenome of L. suffusa. Besides, the trnM rearrangement was found at the head of trnI and trnQ, rather than at the back. The 13 PCGs used ATN as their start codons, except for the cox1 which used CGA. Out of the 22 tRNAs, only 1 tRNA (trnS1) failed to fold in a typical cloverleaf secondary structure. The conserved motif 'ATAGA + poly-T' was detected at the start of the control region which was similar to other Lepidoptera species. In total, 10 overlapping regions and 19 intergenic spacers were identified, ranging from 1 to 41 and 2 to 73 bp, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Lymantriinae was a monophyletic group with a high support value and L. suffusa was closely related to tribe Orgyiini (Erebidae, Lymantriinae). Moreover, the phylogenetic relationship of Noctuoidea (Lepidoptera) species was reconstructed using two datasets (13 PCGs and 37 genes) and these supported the topology of (Notodontidae + (Erebidae + (Nolidae + (Euteliidae + Noctuidae)))).

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Over the last decade, the rapid development of high-throughput sequencing platforms has accelerated species description and assisted morphological classification through DNA barcoding. However, the current high-throughput DNA barcoding methods cannot obtain full-length barcode sequences due to read length limitations (e.g. a maximum read length of 300 bp for the Illumina's MiSeq system), or are hindered by a relatively high cost or low sequencing output (e.g. a maximum number of eight million reads per cell for the PacBio's SEQUEL II system). RESULTS: Pooled cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) barcodes from individual specimens were sequenced on the MGISEQ-2000 platform using the single-end 400 bp (SE400) module. We present a bioinformatic pipeline, HIFI-SE, that takes reads generated from the 5' and 3' ends of the COI barcode region and assembles them into full-length barcodes. HIFI-SE is written in Python and includes four function modules of filter, assign, assembly and taxonomy. We applied the HIFI-SE to a set of 845 samples (30 marine invertebrates, 815 insects) and delivered a total of 747 fully assembled COI barcodes as well as 70 Wolbachia and fungi symbionts. Compared to their corresponding Sanger sequences (72 sequences available), nearly all samples (71/72) were correctly and accurately assembled, including 46 samples that had a similarity score of 100% and 25 of ca. 99%. CONCLUSIONS: The HIFI-SE pipeline represents an efficient way to produce standard full-length barcodes, while the reasonable cost and high sensitivity of our method can contribute considerably more DNA barcodes under the same budget. Our method thereby advances DNA-based species identification from diverse ecosystems and increases the number of relevant applications.

RESUMEN

Understanding diversity patterns requires accounting for the roles of both historical and contemporary factors in the assembly of communities. Here, we compared diversity patterns of two moth assemblages sampled from Taihang and Yanshan mountains in Northern China and performed ancestral range reconstructions using the Multi-State Speciation and Extinction model, to track the origins of these patterns. Further, we estimated diversification rates of the two moth assemblages and explored the effects of contemporary ecological factors. From 7,788 specimens we identified 835 species belonging to 23 families, using both DNA barcode analysis and morphology. Moths in Yanshan mountains showed higher species diversity than in Taihang mountains. Ancestral range analysis indicated Yanshan as the origin, with significant historical dispersals from Yanshan to Taihang. Asymmetrical diversification, population expansion, along with frequent and considerable gene flow were detected between communities. Moreover, dispersal limitation or the joint effect of environment filtering and dispersal limitation were inferred as main driving forces shaping current diversity patterns. In summary, we demonstrate that a multiscale (community, population and species level) analysis incorporating both historical and contemporary factors can be useful in delineating factors contributing to community assembly and patterning in diversity.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Butterfly vertebrae are a rare congenital vertebral anomaly. An overlap of this spinal anomaly with other diseases has been reported. However, to the authors' knowledge, the coexistence of butterfly vertebrae and spinal cord injury has not been reported in the literature. CASE PRESENTATION: A 42-year-old male was admitted to our emergency department after a motor vehicle accident. His complaint was back pain, and he was unable to move both lower limbs. Upon physical examination, the patient was not ambulatory. Sensory examination revealed the absence of sensation below the T12 level. The strength of the bilateral lower limbs was grade 0. The patient received a radiographic evaluation. The initial diagnosis was T11 fracture with complete paraplegia of the lower limbs. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was then performed. Sagittal MRI demonstrated an isointense lesion on T1-weighted imaging and a high-signal spindle-like lesion on T2-weighted imaging of the spinal cord adjacent to the T11 vertebra. The fat-suppressed sequence also revealed hyperintensities of the cord. There was no evidence of acute injury of the T11 vertebral body except for cuneiform anterior wedging. The patient was ultimately diagnosed with complete paraplegia with a T11 butterfly vertebra. He underwent urgent posterior decompressive and fixation surgery from T10 to T12. His postoperative recovery was uneventful. CONCLUSIONS: The coexistence of a butterfly vertebra with spinal cord injury was reported for the first time. Although butterfly vertebrae may be incidentally detected, it is important to be familiar with their radiographic features to distinguish them from fractures.

RESUMEN

A new cycloisomerisation of Z-1-iodo-4-N-methylbenzenesulfonyl-1,6-enynes to functionalized pyrroles was realized in the presence of an organomolecule (4,4'-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-2,2'-bipyridine) and KOtBu. The transformations were performed efficiently to produce different kinds of functionalized pyrroles within 10 min. This is the first example of an organomolecule promoted methodology with vinyl iodides from a non-aromatic system to an aromatic system, which offers an excellent option toward establishing a new horizon for cross-coupling reactions of vinyl halides. Preliminary mechanistic studies were performed and a crude radical pathway was proposed.

RESUMEN

A highly chemo- and regioselective [4 + 2] formal cycloaddition of (Z)-3-iodo allylic nucleophiles and allenamides catalyzed by palladium is reported. The methodology proceeds under mild reaction conditions and is tolerant of alkyl and aryl functional groups. The SN2' substitution at the proximal C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bond performed against the Heck or SN2 pathway delivered a variety of 2-amino-dihydropyrans and 2-amino-tetrahydropiperidines in moderate to satisfactory yields. The [4 + 2] formal cycloaddition derivatives are convertible to interesting scaffolds 2,6,7,7a-tetrahydropyrano[2,3-b]pyrrole and 2,6,7,7a-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine derivatives via ring-closing metathesis (RCM) with Grubbs catalyst II.

RESUMEN

Nonlinear fuzzy classification models have better classification performance than linear fuzzy classifiers. In many nonlinear fuzzy classification problems, piecewise-linear fuzzy discriminant functions can approximate nonlinear fuzzy discriminant functions. In this paper, we first build fuzzy classifier based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) for incremental separable fuzzy training data, which can be widely applied in the healthcare management with fuzzy attributes, then we apply the proposed fuzzy DEA-based classifier in the diagnosis of Coronary with fuzzy symptoms and the classification of breast cancer dataset with fuzzy disturbance. Numerical experiments show the proposed fuzzy DEA-based classifier is accurate and robust.

RESUMEN

The photoluminescence properties of perovskite CsPbBr3 QDs embedded in glasses were investigated at cryogenic temperature in the range of 40-240 K. CsPbBr3 QDs with radii of 3.3 nm, 4.2 nm and 4.8 nm were precipitated in phosphate glasses using conventional thermal treatment. Photoluminescence (PL) integral intensities, bandgap energies and full with at half maximum of the PL bands of CsPbBr3 QDs showed a strong dependence on temperature. An exciton binding energy of ∼40 meV was derived from the temperature-dependent emission intensity. Optical phonon energy involved in the exciton-phonon interaction was found to be ∼56 meV, about three times as that of the single phonon energy. Exciton-phonon coupling strength and the lattice thermal expansion coefficient were strongly dependent on the size of CsPbBr3 QDs, and as a result, inflection temperature of the PL peak energies of CsPbBr3 QDs increased as the size increased.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 1 (TRAF1) is an important adapter protein that is largely implicated in molecular events regulating immunity/inflammation and cell death. Although inflammation is closely related to and forms a vicious circle with insulin dysfunction and hepatic lipid accumulation, the role of TRAF1 in hepatic steatosis and the related metabolic disorders remains unclear. METHODS: The participation of TRAF1 in the initiation and progression of hepatic steatosis was evaluated in high fat diet (HFD)-induced and genetic obesity. Mice with global TRAF1 knockout or liver-specific TRAF1 overexpression were employed to investigate the role of TRAF1 in insulin resistance, inflammation, and hepatic steatosis based on various phenotypic examinations. Molecular mechanisms underlying TRAF1-regulated hepatic steatosis were further explored in vivo and in vitro. RESULTS: TRAF1 expression was significantly upregulated in the livers of NAFLD patients and obese mice and in palmitate-treated hepatocytes. In response to HFD administration or in ob/ob mice, TRAF1 deficiency was hepatoprotective, whereas the overexpression of TRAF1 in hepatocytes contributed to the pathological development of insulin resistance, inflammatory response and hepatic steatosis. Mechanistically, hepatocyte TRAF1 promotes hepatic steatosis through enhancing the activation of ASK1-mediated P38/JNK cascades, as evidenced by the fact that ASK1 inhibition abolished the exacerbated effect of TRAF1 on insulin dysfunction, inflammation, and hepatic lipid accumulation. CONCLUSIONS: TRAF1 functions as a positive regulator of insulin resistance, inflammation, and hepatic steatosis dependent on the activation of ASK1-P38/JNK axis.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Regenerative medicine provides many treatments for burn wounds, of which cell-seeded substitutes are encouraging for large and deep burns. To assess the feasibility of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-seeded small intestinal submucosa (SIS) to repair the deep partial-thickness burns, a rat study was performed. MATERIALS & METHODS: The burn model was created by contacting the dorsal surface directly with boiled water for 10 seconds. MSCs at passage 3 were seeded on the SIS before implantation. Three days after burn injury, the grafts were implanted onto the burn area. At 3, 7, 14 and 21 days post implantation, gross observation and histological assessments were performed. RESULTS: SIS alone and MSC-seeded SIS were able to accelerate the burn wound closure by enhancing granulation tissue formation, increasing wound maturity, improving revascularization, and inducing the proliferation of neo-epidermal cells. Additionally, MSC-seeded SIS was much more effective than SIS alone for the repair of deep partial-thickness burns. CONCLUSION: Both SIS and MSC-seeded SIS were able to repair the large and deep burn wounds and the loaded MSCs possessed positive effects to accelerate the wound closure in a rat model.

RESUMEN

With the aim of finding more potential inhibitors against NADH-fumarate reductase (specific target for treating helminthiasis and cancer) from natural resources, Talaromyces wortmannii was treated with the epigenome regulatory agent suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid, which resulted in the isolation of four new wortmannilactones derivatives (wortmannilactones I-L, 1-4). The structures of these new compounds were elucidated based on IR, HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopic data analyses. These four new compounds showed potent inhibitory activity against NADH-fumarate reductase with the IC50 values ranging from 0.84 to 1.35µM.
