RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Reduction mammoplasty is frequently performed in plastic surgery clinics. The vertical technique can be performed using several different pedicles, including superior, superomedial, medial, and lateral. For patients with large breasts, using a medial pedicle is recommended as a safer approach. Superficial wound dehiscence is common with all breast reduction techniques. METHODS: The present study compared early complications in patients who underwent reduction mammoplasty with superior pedicle, medial pedicle, or medial pedicle with dermal suspension performed by the same surgeon. The patients were evaluated in terms of age, weight, height, pedicle type and technique used for vertical reduction mammoplasty, resected tissue mass, suprasternal notch (SSN) to nipple-areola complex (NAC) distance, NAC transposition distance, and drain duration. RESULTS: Pairwise comparisons revealed that wound dehiscence along the inframammary fold (IMF) was significantly less frequent in the superior pedicle group than the medial pedicle without suspension group (p = 0.018). Although not statistically significant, using the suspension method in medial pedicle procedures reduced the rate of IMF wound dehiscence from 32.4 to 25%. Delayed IMF wound healing was associated with the amount of resected tissue (p = 0.004) but not with age, BMI, SSN-to-NAC distance, NAC transposition distance, or drain duration. CONCLUSION: Suspending the medial pedicle from the chest wall reduced the rate of IMF wound dehiscence. RESUMEN

Sustainability is a current topic in public open green spaces such as university campuses. In order to ensure the sustainability of the campus areas, it is necessary to determine the criteria for the sustainable campus landscape. Bursa Uludag University Gorukle Campus in Bursa was chosen as the study area in this research. The aim of the study is to identify suitable sustainable campus criteria with a focus on landscape and to prioritize appropriate sustainable campus strategies determined according to these criteria. In this context, first, field studies and literature research were carried out. Second, sustainable campus criteria were classified as criteria and section. The section was then divided into credit. All these credits were ranked according to their priorities. Analytic hierarchy process, one of the multi-criteria decision-making methods, was used while ranking. According to the result of the criteria, planting landscape components were determined to be more important than structural landscape components. Among the section, the transport category was found as the highest priority criterion. The use of vegetable wastes as compost was also determined as the most important criterion among all credits. The method and findings of this research may set an example for determining priorities of the sustainable campus criteria in Turkey and developing countries with a participatory management approach.

RESUMEN

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are one of the most reliable and cheapest contraception methods. Our aims are to evaluate misplaced IUDs with radiological findings and to emphasise the importance of radiological imaging. We report two cases with radiological findings, one of complete migration to the abdomen without colonic perforation and one of partial migration to the bladder lumen with pregnancy. Uterine perforation and migration of IUDs are rare and undesirable complications. Suspected intra-abdominal IUDs can be evaluated with CT for precise localisation and possible complications without pregnancy.

RESUMEN

We have investigated the antibacterial effects of Chenopodium album's ethanolic leaf extract (CAE) on all the Gram (+) and Gram (-) microorganisms and evaluated the protective effects of CAE on both yeast and human mononuclear leukocytes' genomic DNA upon oxidative shock. Antibacterial activity was recorded on Bacillus subtilis with 13 mm of inhibition zone. Total oxidative status (TOS) and the total antioxidative status (TAS) levels were determined to evaluate the antioxidant activity of CAE. Results indicated that there was a good correlation between dose of CAE and TAS levels. We also observed that CAE protect the DNA of both yeast and mononuclear leukocytes against the damaging effect of hydrogen peroxide. The comet assay, applied on both Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY4741 (MATa his3Δ1 leu2Δ0 met15Δ0 ura3Δ0) and human leukocytes, results suggested that there was statistically significant correlation between CAE dilutions and antigenotoxic activity.
