BACKGROUND/AIMS: Aging is accompanied by progressive and adverse cardiac remodeling characterized by myocardial hypertrophy, fibrosis, and dysfunction. We previously reported that galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a critical regulator of inflammation and fibrosis associated with hypertensive heart disease and myocardial infarction. Nevertheless, the role and mechanism of Gal-3 in age-related cardiac remodeling have not been previously investigated. We hypothesized that Gal-3 plays a critical role in cardiac aging and that its deficiency exacerbates the underlying mechanisms of myocardial hypertrophy and fibrosis. METHODS: Male C57BL/6 (control) (n=24) and Gal-3 knockout (KO) (n=29) mice were studied at 24 months of age to evaluate the role of Gal-3 in cardiac aging. We assessed 1) survival rate; 2) systolic blood pressure (SBP) by plethysmography; 3) myocardial hypertrophy, apoptosis, and fibrosis by quantification of histological and immunohistochemical analysis; 4) cardiac expression of angiotensin (Ang) II, Ang (1-7) by Radioimmunoassay; 5) transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß), sirtuin (SIRT) 1, SIRT 7 and metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) by RT-qPCR and 6) ventricular remodeling and function by echocardiography. RESULTS: We found that aged Gal-3 KO mice had a lower survival rate and exhibited exacerbated myocardial hypertrophy and fibrosis without changes in SBP. Similarly, myocardial apoptosis and MMP-9 mRNA expression was significantly increased in the hearts of Gal-3 KO mice compared to controls. Additionally, cardiac Ang II and TGF-ß expression were higher in aged Gal-3 KO mice while SIRT1 and SIRT7 expression were reduced. CONCLUSION: Our findings strongly suggest that Gal-3 is involved in age-related cardiac remodeling by regulating critical mechanisms associated with the development of pathological hypertrophy. The gene deletion of Gal-3 reduced the lifespan and markedly increased age-dependent mechanisms of myocardial hypertrophy, apoptosis, and fibrosis, including Ang-II, TGF-ß, and MMP-9. At the same time, there was diminished cardiac-specific expression of SIRT1 and SIRT7, which are extensively implicated in delaying age-dependent cardiomyopathies.

We studied the role of galectin-3 (Gal-3) in the expression of alternative activation markers (M2) on macrophage, cytokines, and fibrosis through the temporal evolution of healing, ventricular remodeling, and function after myocardial infarction (MI). C57BL/6J and Gal-3 knockout mice (Lgals3-/-) were subjected to permanent coronary ligation or sham. We studied i) mortality, ii) macrophage infiltration and expression of markers of alternative activation, iii) cytokine, iv) matrix metalloproteinase-2 activity, v) fibrosis, and vi) cardiac function and remodeling. At 1 week post-MI, lack of Gal-3 markedly attenuated F4/80+ macrophage infiltration and significantly increased the expression of Mrc1 and Chil1, markers of M2 macrophages at the MI zone. Levels of IL-10, IL-6, and matrix metalloproteinase-2 were significantly increased, whereas tumor necrosis factor-α, transforming growth factor-ß, and fibrosis were remarkably attenuated at the infarct zone. In Gal-3 knockout mice, scar thinning ratio, expansion, and cardiac remodeling and function were severely affected from the onset of MI. At 4 weeks post-MI, the natural evolution of fibrosis in Gal-3 knockout mice was also affected. Our results suggest that Gal-3 is essential for wound healing because it regulates the dynamics of macrophage infiltration, proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine expression, and fibrosis along the temporal evolution of MI in mice. The deficit of Gal-3 affected the dynamics of wound healing, thus aggravating the evolution of remodeling and function.

RESUMEN

Here, a streamlined, scalable, laboratory approach is discussed that enables medium-to-large dataset analysis. The presented approach combines data management, artificial intelligence, containerization, cluster orchestration, and quality control in a unified analytic pipeline. The unique combination of these individual building blocks creates a new and powerful analysis approach that can readily be applied to medium-to-large datasets by researchers to accelerate the pace of research. The proposed framework is applied to a project that counts the number of plasmonic nanoparticles bound to peripheral blood mononuclear cells in dark-field microscopy images. By using the techniques presented in this article, the images are automatically processed overnight, without user interaction, streamlining the path from experiment to conclusions.

Although non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) persons account for 0.7% of the U.S. population,* a recent analysis reported that 1.3% of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases reported to CDC with known race and ethnicity were among AI/AN persons (1). To assess the impact of COVID-19 among the AI/AN population, reports of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases during January 22†-July 3, 2020 were analyzed. The analysis was limited to 23 states§ with >70% complete race/ethnicity information and five or more laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases among both AI/AN persons (alone or in combination with other races and ethnicities) and non-Hispanic white (white) persons. Among 424,899 COVID-19 cases reported by these states, 340,059 (80%) had complete race/ethnicity information; among these 340,059 cases, 9,072 (2.7%) occurred among AI/AN persons, and 138,960 (40.9%) among white persons. Among 340,059 cases with complete patient race/ethnicity data, the cumulative incidence among AI/AN persons in these 23 states was 594 per 100,000 AI/AN population (95% confidence interval [CI] = 203-1,740), compared with 169 per 100,000 white population (95% CI = 137-209) (rate ratio [RR] = 3.5; 95% CI = 1.2-10.1). AI/AN persons with COVID-19 were younger (median age = 40 years; interquartile range [IQR] = 26-56 years) than were white persons (median age = 51 years; IQR = 32-67 years). More complete case report data and timely, culturally responsive, and evidence-based public health efforts that leverage the strengths of AI/AN communities are needed to decrease COVID-19 transmission and improve patient outcomes.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to compare the characteristics between patients who underwent aortic valve replacement (AVR) through a J-shaped upper mini-sternotomy (UMS) and patients who underwent full sternotomy (FS) in the basis of clinical care and hospital outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted on adult patients who were subjected to AVR by UMS from 2014 to 2017, compared with a historical control of patients who had undergone UMS by FS from 2011 to 2014. Patients, who received combined valve replacement or aortic surgery, as well as heart valve reinterventions due to endocarditis, were excluded. Sociodemographic characteristics, medical history, hospital and intensive care stay, blood transfusions, complications, and mortality of both procedures were compared. RESULTS: There were 57 patients under UMS and 99 patients under FS included in this study. The median age was 67 years, and 56.77% of the patients were male. No differences were observed in the past medical history and the type of valve implanted between the groups. During surgery, patients under UMS received a lower percentage of red blood cell and platelet transfusions compared with FS. However, UMS had a higher percentage of cryoprecipitate transfusion. Intensive care stay was shorter in UMS compared with FS (three days; interquartile range [IQR], 2-4; and four days; IQR, 2-6, respectively) without differences in overall hospital stay, postoperative complications, in-hospital mortality, and 30-day mortality. CONCLUSIONS: The J-shaped upper mini-sternotomy is a feasible surgical technique that does not increase in-hospital or 30-day mortality, neither hospital stay nor infectious complications.

RATIONALE: Deep learning is a powerful tool that may allow for improved outcome prediction. OBJECTIVES: To determine if deep learning, specifically convolutional neural network (CNN) analysis, could detect and stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and predict acute respiratory disease (ARD) events and mortality in smokers. METHODS: A CNN was trained using computed tomography scans from 7,983 COPDGene participants and evaluated using 1,000 nonoverlapping COPDGene participants and 1,672 ECLIPSE participants. Logistic regression (C statistic and the Hosmer-Lemeshow test) was used to assess COPD diagnosis and ARD prediction. Cox regression (C index and the Greenwood-Nam-D'Agnostino test) was used to assess mortality. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: In COPDGene, the C statistic for the detection of COPD was 0.856. A total of 51.1% of participants in COPDGene were accurately staged and 74.95% were within one stage. In ECLIPSE, 29.4% were accurately staged and 74.6% were within one stage. In COPDGene and ECLIPSE, the C statistics for ARD events were 0.64 and 0.55, respectively, and the Hosmer-Lemeshow P values were 0.502 and 0.380, respectively, suggesting no evidence of poor calibration. In COPDGene and ECLIPSE, CNN predicted mortality with fair discrimination (C indices, 0.72 and 0.60, respectively), and without evidence of poor calibration (Greenwood-Nam-D'Agnostino P values, 0.307 and 0.331, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: A deep-learning approach that uses only computed tomography imaging data can identify those smokers who have COPD and predict who are most likely to have ARD events and those with the highest mortality. At a population level CNN analysis may be a powerful tool for risk assessment.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the quality of the therapeutic approach in Specialized Headache Units in Spain. METHODS: An observational (prospective) study was conducted. Anonymized data of 313 consecutive patients during a defined period of time were analyzed and a comparison of performance in 13 consensual quality indicators between Specialized Headache Units and neurology consultations was calculated. Specialized Units and neurology consultations represented the type of provision that Spaniards receive in hospitals. RESULTS: The consensus benchmark standard was reached for 8/13 (61%) indicators. Specialized Headache Units performed better in the indicators, specifically in relation to accessibility, equity, safety, and patient satisfaction. Patients attended in Specialized Headache Units had more complex conditions. CONCLUSION: Although there is variability among Specialized Headache Units, the overall quality was generally better than in traditional neurology consultations in Spain.

Motivation: The PAM50 classifier is used to assign patients to the highest correlated breast cancer subtype irrespectively of the obtained value. Nonetheless, all subtype correlations are required to build the risk of recurrence (ROR) score, currently used in therapeutic decisions. Present subtype uncertainty estimations are not accurate, seldom considered or require a population-based approach for this context. Results: Here we present a novel single-subject non-parametric uncertainty estimation based on PAM50's gene label permutations. Simulations results ( n = 5228) showed that only 61% subjects can be reliably 'Assigned' to the PAM50 subtype, whereas 33% should be 'Not Assigned' (NA), leaving the rest to tight 'Ambiguous' correlations between subtypes. The NA subjects exclusion from the analysis improved survival subtype curves discrimination yielding a higher proportion of low and high ROR values. Conversely, all NA subjects showed similar survival behaviour regardless of the original PAM50 assignment. We propose to incorporate our PAM50 uncertainty estimation to support therapeutic decisions. Galectin-1 (Gal-1), an evolutionarily conserved ß-galactoside-binding lectin, controls immune cell homeostasis and tempers acute and chronic inflammation by blunting proinflammatory cytokine synthesis, engaging T-cell apoptotic programs, promoting expansion of T regulatory (Treg) cells, and deactivating antigen-presenting cells. In addition, this lectin promotes angiogenesis by co-opting the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) 2 signaling pathway. Since a coordinated network of immunomodulatory and proangiogenic mediators controls cardiac homeostasis, this lectin has been proposed to play a key hierarchical role in cardiac pathophysiology via glycan-dependent regulation of inflammatory responses. Here, we discuss the emerging roles of Gal-1 in cardiovascular diseases including acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, Chagas cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, and ischemic stroke, highlighting underlying anti-inflammatory mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities. Whereas Gal-1 administration emerges as a potential novel treatment option in acute myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke, Gal-1 blockade may contribute to attenuate pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The concentrations of metals (Ag, Al, Ba, B, Be, Bi, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ga, Hg, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Rb, Sr, Tl, U, V, Zn), As and Se were analyzed in water and sediments from three sites of Río Tercero Reservoir (Córdoba, Argentina) during the wet and the dry season. The dynamics of metals in six fish species (Hoplias malabaricus, Oligosarcus jenynsii, Rhamdia quelen, Bryconamericus iheringii, Astyanax fasciatus and Odontesthes bonariensis) from the reservoir were investigated to discover the possible differential influence of habitat and diet on metal accumulation in the fish. In the abiotic matrix, the highest heavy metal concentrations were observed in sediment. The concentrations of Al, Cu and Pb in water exceeded the limits considered as hazardous for aquatic life. Potential ecological risk analysis of metal concentrations in sediment indicated a low ecological risk in Río Tercero Reservoir in all sampling periods. The enrichment factor indicated that Cu, Pb, Zn and Hg come from anthropogenic sources. Among five different organs, the highest metal levels were found in gills and intestine. Rhamdia quelen and Oligosarcus jenynsii were the species with the highest values of metal accumulation in the whole body. Our study showed that the accumulation pattern of these multi-elements in the different fish species did not respond to diet or habitat, but seemed to be related to the detoxification mechanisms and the metabolism of each organism.

Intensive use of chlorinated pesticides from the 1960s to the 1990s has resulted in a diffuse contamination of soils and surface waters in the banana-producing areas of the French West Indies. The purpose of this research was, for the first time, to examine the degradation of two of these persistent pollutants - chlordecone (CLD) and beta-hexachlorocyclohexane (ß-HCH) in 1 mg L-1 synthetic aqueous solutions by means of photolysis, (photo-) Fenton oxidation and ozonation processes. Fenton oxidation is not efficient for CLD and yields less than 15% reduction of ß-HCH concentration in 5 h. Conversely, both molecules can be quantitatively converted under UV-Vis irradiation reaching 100% of degradation in 5 h, while combination with hydrogen peroxide and ferrous iron does not show any significant improvement except in high wavelength range (>280 nm). Ozonation exhibits comparable but lower degradation rates than UV processes. Preliminary identification of degradation products indicated that hydrochlordecone was formed during photo-Fenton oxidation of CLD, while for ß-HCH the major product peak exhibited C3H3Cl2 as most abundant fragment.

Galectin-3 (Gal-3), a member of the ß-galactoside lectin family, has an important role in immune regulation. In hypertensive rats and heart failure patients, Gal-3 is considered a marker for an unfavorable prognosis. Nevertheless, the role and mechanism of Gal-3 action in hypertension-induced target organ damage are unknown. We hypothesized that, in angiotensin II (ANG II)-induced hypertension, genetic deletion of Gal-3 prevents left ventricular (LV) adverse remodeling and LV dysfunction by reducing the innate immune responses and myocardial fibrosis. To induce hypertension, male C57BL/6J and Gal-3 knockout (KO) mice were infused with ANG II (3 µg·min-1·kg-1 sc) for 8 wk. We assessed: 1) systolic blood pressure by plethysmography, 2) LV function and remodeling by echocardiography, 3) myocardial fibrosis by histology, 4) cardiac CD68+ macrophage infiltration by histology, 5) ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression by Western blotting, 6) plasma cytokines, including interleukin-6 (IL-6), by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and 7) regulatory T (Treg) cells by flow cytometry as detected by their combined expression of CD4, CD25, and FOXP3. Systolic blood pressure and cardiac hypertrophy increased similarly in both mouse strains when infused with ANG II. However, hypertensive C57BL/6J mice suffered impaired ejection and shortening fractions. In these mice, the extent of myocardial fibrosis and macrophage infiltration was greater in histological sections, and cardiac ICAM-1, as well as plasma IL-6, expression was higher as assessed by Western blotting. However, all these parameters were blunted in Gal-3 KO mice. Hypertensive Gal-3 KO mice also had a higher number of splenic Treg lymphocytes. In conclusion, in ANG II-induced hypertension, genetic deletion of Gal-3 prevented LV dysfunction without affecting blood pressure or LV hypertrophy. This study indicates that the ANG II effects are, in part, mediated or triggered by Gal-3 together with the related intercellular signaling (ICAM-1 and IL-6), leading to cardiac inflammation and fibrosis.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to prospectively test the performance and potential for clinical integration of software that automatically calculates the right-to-left ventricular (RV/LV) diameter ratio from computed tomography pulmonary angiography images. METHODS: Using 115 computed tomography pulmonary angiography images that were positive for acute pulmonary embolism, we prospectively evaluated RV/LV ratio measurements that were obtained as follows: (1) completely manual measurement (reference standard), (2) completely automated measurement using the software, and (3 and 4) using a customized software interface that allowed 2 independent radiologists to manually adjust the automatically positioned calipers. RESULTS: Automated measurements underestimated (P < 0.001) the reference standard (1.09 [0.25] vs1.03 [0.35]). With manual correction of the automatically positioned calipers, the mean ratio became closer to the reference standard (1.06 [0.29] by read 1 and 1.07 [0.30] by read 2), and the correlation improved (r = 0.675 to 0.872 and 0.887). The mean time required for manual adjustment (37 [20] seconds) was significantly less than the time required to perform measurements entirely manually (100 [23] seconds). CONCLUSIONS: Automated CT RV/LV diameter ratio software shows promise for integration into the clinical workflow for patients with acute pulmonary embolism.

Degradation of paracetamol (N-(4-hydroxiphenyl)acetamide) in aqueous solution by gamma radiation, gamma radiation/H2O2 and gamma radiation/Fenton processes was studied. Parameters affecting the radiolysis of paracetamol such as radiation dose, initial concentration of pollutant, pH and initial oxidant concentration were investigated. Gamma radiation was performed using a (60)Co source irradiator. Paracetamol degradation and mineralization increased with increasing absorbed radiation dose, but decreased with increasing initial concentration of the drug in aqueous solution. The addition of H2O2 resulted in an increased effect on irradiation-driven paracetamol degradation in comparison with the performance of the irradiation-driven process alone: paracetamol removal increased from 48.9% in the absence of H2O2 to 95.2% for H2O2 concentration of 41.7 mmol/L. However, the best results were obtained with gamma radiation/Fenton process with 100% of the drug removal at 5 kGy, for optimal H2O2 and Fe(2+) concentrations at 13.9 and 2.3 mmol/L, respectively, with a high mineralization of 63.7%. These results suggest gamma radiation/H2O2 and gamma radiation/Fenton processes as promising methods for paracetamol degradation in polluted wastewaters.

Two of the possible catalytic mechanisms for neurotransmitter oxidative deamination by monoamine oxidase B (MAO B), namely, polar nucleophilic and hydride transfer, were addressed in order to comprehend the nature of their rate-determining step. The Quantum Chemical Cluster Approach was used to obtain transition states of MAO B complexed with phenylethylamine (PEA), benzylamine (BA), and p-nitrobenzylamine (NBA). The choice of these amines relies on their importance to address MAO B catalytic mechanisms so as to help us to answer questions such as why BA is a better substrate than NBA or how para-substitution affects substrate's reactivity. Transition states were later validated by comparison with the experimental free energy barriers. From a theoretical point of view, and according to the our reported transition states, their calculated barriers and structural and orbital differences obtained by us among these compounds, we propose that good substrates such as BA and PEA might follow the hydride transfer pathway while poor substrates such as NBA prefer the polar nucleophilic mechanism, which might suggest that MAO B can act by both mechanisms. The low free energy barriers for BA and PEA reflect the preference that MAO B has for hydride transfer over the polar nucleophilic mechanism when catalyzing the oxidative deamination of neurotransmitters.

This study examined whether the antidermatophytic activity of essential oils (EOs) can be used as an indicator for the discovery of active natural products against Leishmania amazonensis. The aerial parts of seven plants were hydrodistilled. Using broth microdilution techniques, the obtained EOs were tested against three strains of dermatophytes (Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Microsporum gypseum and Microsporum canis). To compare the EOs antifungal and antiparasitic effects, the EOs activities against axenic amastigotes of L. amazonensis were concurrently evaluated. For the most promising EOs, their antileishmanial activities against parasites infecting peritoneal macrophages of BALB/c mice were measured. The most interesting antifungal candidates were the EOs from Cymbopogon citratus, Otacanthus azureus and Protium heptaphyllum, whereas O. azureus, Piper hispidum and P. heptaphyllum EOs exhibited the lowest 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) values against axenic amastigotes, thus revealing a certain correspondence between both activities. The P. hispidum EO was identified as the most promising product in the results from the infected macrophages model (IC50: 4.7 µg/mL, safety index: 8). The most abundant compounds found in this EO were sesquiterpenes, notably curzerene and furanodiene. Eventually, the evaluation of the antidermatophytic activity of EOs appears to be an efficient method for identifying new potential drugs for the treatment of L. amazonensis.

Galectin-1 (Gal-1), an evolutionarily conserved ß-galactoside-binding lectin, plays essential roles in the control of inflammation and neovascularization. Although identified as a major component of the contractile apparatus of cardiomyocytes, the potential role of Gal-1 in modulating heart pathophysiology is uncertain. Here, we aimed to characterize Gal-1 expression and function in the infarcted heart. Expression of Gal-1 was substantially increased in the mouse heart 7 days after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and in hearts from patients with end-stage chronic heart failure. This lectin was localized mainly in cardiomyocytes and inflammatory infiltrates in peri-infarct areas, but not in remote areas. Both simulated hypoxia and proinflammatory cytokines selectively up-regulated Gal-1 expression in mouse cardiomyocytes, whereas anti-inflammatory cytokines inhibited expression of this lectin or had no considerable effect. Compared with their wild-type counterpart, Gal-1-deficient (Lgals1(-/-)) mice showed enhanced cardiac inflammation, characterized by increased numbers of macrophages, natural killer cells, and total T cells, but reduced frequency of regulatory T cells, leading to impaired cardiac function at baseline and impaired ventricular remodeling 7 days after nonreperfused AMI. Treatment of mice with recombinant Gal-1 attenuated cardiac damage in reperfused AMI. Taken together, our results indicate a protective role for Gal-1 in normal cardiac homeostasis and postinfarction remodeling by preventing cardiac inflammation. Thus, Gal-1 treatment represents a potential novel strategy to attenuate heart failure in AMI.

We have reported previously that Ac-SDKP (N-acetyl-seryl-aspartyl-lysyl-proline) reduces fibrosis and inflammation (in macrophages and mast cells). However, it is not known whether Ac-SDKP decreases collagen cross-linking and lymphocyte infiltration; lymphocytes modulate both collagen cross-linking and ECM (extracellular matrix) formation in hypertension. Thus we hypothesized that (i) in AngII (angiotensin II)-induced hypertension, Ac-SDKP prevents increases in cross-linked and total collagen by down-regulating LOX (lysyl oxidase), the enzyme responsible for cross-linking, and (ii) these effects are associated with decreased pro-fibrotic cytokine TGFß (transforming growth factor ß) and the pro-inflammatory transcription factor NF-κB (nuclear factor κB) and CD4+/CD8+ lymphocyte infiltration. We induced hypertension in rats by infusing AngII either alone or combined with Ac-SDKP for 3 weeks. Whereas Ac-SDKP failed to lower BP (blood pressure) or LV (left ventricular) hypertrophy, it did prevent AngII-induced increases in (i) cross-linked and total collagen, (ii) LOX mRNA expression and LOXL1 (LOX-like 1) protein, (iii) TGFß expression, (iv) nuclear translocation of NF-κB, (v) CD4+/CD8+ lymphocyte infiltration, and (vi) CD68+ macrophages infiltration. In addition, we found a positive correlation between CD4+ infiltration and LOXL1 expression. In conclusion, the effect of Ac-SDKP on collagen cross-linking and total collagen may be due to reduced TGFß1, LOXL1, and lymphocyte and macrophage infiltration, and its effect on inflammation could be due to lower NF-κB.

PURPOSE: The aim of this work was to investigate the potential protective effects of fish oil on the basis of kidney transcriptomic data on a nutritional experimental model. METHODS: Male weanling Wistar rats were divided into four groups and fed choline-deficient (CD) and choline-supplemented (CS) diets with vegetable oil (VO) and menhaden oil (MO): CSVO, CDVO, CSMO and CDMO. Animals were killed after receiving the diets for 6 days. Total RNA was purified from the right kidney and hybridized to Affymetrix GeneChip Rat Gene 1.0 ST Array. Differentially expressed genes were analyzed. RESULTS: All CSVO, CSMO and CDMO rats showed no renal alterations, while all CDVO rats showed renal cortical necrosis. A thorough analysis of the differential expression between groups CSMO and CDMO was carried out. There were no differential genes for p < 0.01. The analysis of the differential expression between groups CSVO and CSMO revealed 32 genes, 11 were over-expressed and 21 were under-expressed in CSMO rats. CONCLUSIONS: This work was part of a large set of experiments and was used in a hypothesis-generating manner. The comprehensive analysis of genetic expression allowed confirming that menhaden oil has a protective effect on this nutritional experimental model and identifying 32 genes that could be responsible for that protection, including Gstp1. These results reveal that gene changes could play a role in renal injury.
