BACKGROUND This study aimed to investigate the impact of EIT-guided yoga breathing training on postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) for esophageal cancer patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS Total of 62 patients underwent radical resections of esophageal cancer. Esophageal cancer patients were randomized to the standard care group, or the intervention group receiving an additional complete breathing exercise under the guidance of EIT in AICU. Following extubation after the esophagectomy, pulmonary functions were evaluated by EIT with center of ventilation (CoV), dependent silent spaces (DSS), and non-dependent silent spaces (NSS). RESULTS Sixty-one older esophageal cancer patients (31 in the Control group and 30 in the EIT group) were included in the final analysis. Forty-four patients experienced pulmonary complications after esophagectomy, 27 (87.1%) in the Control group and 17 (36.7%) in the EIT group (RR, 0.42 (95% CI: 0.26, 0.69). The most common pulmonary complication was pleural effusion, with an incidence of 30% in the EIT group and 74.2% in the Control group, with RR of 0.40 (95% CI: 0.23, 0.73). Time for the first pulmonary complication was significantly longer in the EIT group than in the Control group (hazard ratio, HR, 0.43; 95% CI 0.21 to 0.87; P=0.019). Patients in the EIT group had significantly higher scores in CoV, DSS, and NSS than in the Control group. CONCLUSIONS Guided by EIT, the addition of the postoperative breathing exercise to the standardized care during AICU could further improve pulmonary function, and reduce postoperative pulmonary complications after esophagectomy.

The diagnosis of Talaromyces marneffei infection in HIV-negative patients remains challenging. There is an urgent need for rapid and convenient methods to diagnose this complicated disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) for talaromycosis in non-HIV-infected patients by comparing mNGS with traditional microbial culture. In total, 66 samples from 57 patients were analyzed via both mNGS and microbial culture. The ROC curve showed a sensitivity for mNGS of 97.22%, which was greater than that of microbial culture (61.11%). Samples from the respiratory tract, infectious skin lesions, and lymph nodes are recommended as routine samples for talaromycosis detection via mNGS. Furthermore, mNGS significantly reduced the diagnostic time compared to microbial culture. Overall, our study demonstrated that mNGS is a promising tool for rapid and accurate pathogenic detection in HIV-negative patients with talaromycosis.

PURPOSE: Combined spinal-epidural analgesia (CSEA) is effective but not sufficient for labor pain. This study was conducted to assess the real-time analgesic efficacy, side effects of anesthetic drug dosage, and maternal satisfaction in labor to provide reference for the optimization of labor analgesia. METHODS: This was a prospective, cohort, single-center study that included 3020 women who received CSEA for labor analgesia. The visual analogue scale (VAS) for labor pain, real-time anesthetic drug dosage, side effects, adverse labor outcomes, factors influencing average drug dosage, and maternal satisfaction with CSEA were assessed. RESULTS: Overall, the VAS labor pain score was lowest at the first hour after the anesthesia was given. After 4 h for primiparas and 3 h for multiparas, the VAS score was greater than 3 but the anesthetic drug dosage did not reach the maximum allowed dosage at the same time. The average anesthetic drug dosage was positively correlated with fever, urinary retention, uterine atony, prolonged active phase, prolonged second stage, assisted vaginal delivery, and postpartum hemorrhage. The average anesthetic drug dosage was the highest in women ≤ 20 years old, those with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 24.9 kg/m2, and those with a primary or secondary education level. CONCLUSION: Appropriate age guidance and emphasis on education of labor analgesia, weight management during pregnancy, and real-time anesthetic dosage adjustment during labor based on VAS pain score may have positive effects on the satisfaction of labor analgesia. BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the effects of combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (CSEA) with acupoint injection (AI) on the maternal-fetal expression of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), interleukin-10 (IL-10), analgesia effect, and labor outcomes. METHODS: A total of 360 healthy primiparas were randomized into the CSEA+AI group, the CSEA group, the AI group, and the control group (n = 90, each group) according to the labor analgesia methods. RESULTS: Compared to the CSEA group, the CSEA+AI group had significantly lower visual analog scale (VAS) scores, adverse events, dose of ropivacaine/sufentanil, and shorter labor durations. The IL-1ß/IL-10 ratio in maternal peripheral blood and umbilical cord blood was reduced in the CSEA+AI group compared with the CSEA group. CONCLUSION: The combination of CSEA and AI can reduce the ratio of IL-1ß/ IL-10 in maternal peripheral blood and umbilical cord blood, which can effectively relieve labor pain.

OBJECTIVE: Transient receptor potential canonical (TRPC) channels are involved in neovascularization repairing after vascular injury in many tissues. However, whether TRPCs play a regulatory role in the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR) has rarely been reported. In the present study, we selected TRPC1, 3, and 6 to determine their roles and mechanism in human retina vascular endothelial cells (HREC) under high glucose (HG) conditions. METHODS: HRECs were cultured in vitro under HG, hyper osmosis, and normal conditions. The expression of TRPC1, 3, and 6 in the cells at 24 and 48 h were detected by RT-polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Western blot and cell immunohistochemistry (IHC); In various concentrations, SKF96365 acted on HG cultured HRECs, the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were detected by the same methods above; and the CCK-8, Transwell, cell scratch assay, and Matrigel assay were used to assess cell proliferation, migration, and lumen formation. RESULTS: The RT-PCR, Western blot, and IHC results showed that TRPC1 expression was increased, and TRPC6 mRNA expression was increased under high-glucose conditions. SKF96365 acted on HG cultured HRECs that VEGF expression was significantly decreased. The CCK-8 assay, Transwell assay, cell scratch assay, and Matrigel assay showed that cell proliferation, migration, and lumen formation were downregulated by SKF96365. CONCLUSION: HG can induce increased expression of TRPC1 and 6 in HRECs. Inhibition of the TRPC pathway not only can decrease VEGF expression but also can prevent proliferation, migration, and lumen formation of HRECs induced by HG. Inhibition of TRPC channels is expected to become a drug target for DR.

OBJECTIVE: In the present study, we sought to identify risk factors for umbilical cord prolapse (UCP) and adapt the multidisciplinary team (MDT) first-aid simulation training for UCP patients. We evaluated the usefulness of the MDT first-aid simulation by comparing delivery outcomes for UCP patients before and after its implementation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted on 149 UCP cases (48 overt and 101 occult) and 298 control deliveries that occurred at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 1998 to December 2022. Patient data were compared between the groups. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for means comparison, and the chi-square test was used for categorical data. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors significantly associated with UCP. RESULTS: Overt UCP was strongly associated with all adverse delivery outcomes. Both univariate and multivariate analyses identified multiparity, breech presentation, polyhydramnios, and low birth weight as independent risk factors for overt UCP (all odds ratios [OR] > 1; all p < 0.05). Preterm labor and abnormal placental cord insertion were identified as independent risk factors for occult UCP (all OR > 1; all p < 0.05). After 2014, when obstetrical staff received MDT first-aid simulation training, patients with overt UCP experienced shorter decision-to-delivery intervals due to more timely cesarean sections. They also had higher Apgar scores at 1, 5, and 10 min, and lower admission rates to the neonatal intensive care unit compared to patients before 2014 (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: MDT first-aid simulation training for overt UCP can improve neonatal outcomes. However, medical simulation training efforts should initially focus on the early identification of risk factors for both overt and occult UCP.


Overt umbilical cord prolapse (UCP) is an obstetric emergency that can lead to adverse delivery outcomes. Early identification of risk factors for both overt and occult UCP is beneficial for facilitating early interventions. Multidisciplinary team first-aid simulation training specifically for overt UCP has been shown to effectively improve neonatal outcomes.

PURPOSE: This paper aims to explore the molecular mechanism of Enhancer of Zeste Homolog 2 (EZH2)-mediated H3K27me3 in human corneal endothelial cells (HCEC) apoptosis by inhibiting Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) transcription to provide a potential target for the treatment of corneal apoptosis. METHODS: HCECs were cultured in vitro and transfected with si-EZH2, pcDNA3.1-EZH2, pcDNA3.1-HO-1, GSK-J4 (an effective H3K27me3 demethylase inhibitor), and corresponding controls. Western Blot assay was used to detect the levels of EZH2, HO-1, H3K27me3, and apoptosis-related proteins (Bcl-2, Bax, and Cleaved-caspase-3) in HCECs; CCK-8 assay was conducted to detect cell viability and flow cytometry to analyze the apoptosis. HO-1 mRNA levels were detected by RT-qPCR and changes in H3K27me3 levels on the HO-1 promoter were detected by chromatin immunoprecipitation. RESULTS: HCECs transfected with si-EZH2 showed significantly lower EZH2 mRNA and protein levels, higher HCEC viability, lower apoptosis rates, higher antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2 expression, lower proapoptotic protein (Bax and Cleaved-caspase-3) levels, and significantly higher HO-1 expression. HCECs transfected with pcDNA3.1-EZH2 showed the opposite results. EZH2 repressed HO-1 transcription by mediating H3K27me3. H3K27me27 was enriched in the HO-1 promoter and overexpression of EZH2 increased H3K27me27 levels. Promotion of H3K27me3 partially reversed the mitigating effect of si-EZH2 on HCEC apoptosis. Overexpression of HO-1 partially reversed the apoptosis-promoting effects of EZH2 and H3K27me3 on HCECs. CONCLUSIONS: EZH2 promotes HCE cell apoptosis by mediating H3K27me3 to inhibit HO-1 transcription.

Bacteria, inhabiting around and in plant roots, confer many beneficial traits to promote plant growth and health. The secretion of root exudates modulates the nutritional state of the rhizosphere and root area, further selecting specific bacteria taxa and shaping the bacteria communities. Many studies of the rhizosphere effects have demonstrated that selection by the plant rhizosphere consistently enriches a set of bacteria taxa, and this is conserved across different plant species. Root selection effects are considered to be stronger than the rhizosphere selection effects, yet studies are limited. Here, we focus on the root selection effects across a group of 11 stress-resistant plant species. We found that the root selection consistently reduced the alpha diversity (represented by total number of observed species, Shannon's diversity, and phylogenetic diversity) and altered the structure and composition of bacteria communities. Furthermore, root selection tended to enrich for clusters of bacteria genera including Pantoea, Akkermansia, Blautia, Acinetobacter, Burkholderia-Paraburkholderia, Novosphingobium, Massilia, Pseudomonas, Chryseobacterium, and Stenotrophomonas. Our study offers some basic knowledge for understanding the microbial ecology of the plant root, and suggests that several bacteria genera are of interest for future studies.

This study provides a novel method of preparing lotus seed starch nanocrystals (LS-SNCs) using acid hydrolysis combined with ultrasonic-assisted acid hydrolysis (U-LS-SNCs) and evaluates the structural characteristics of starch nanocrystals using scanning electron microscopy; analysis of particle size, molecular weight, and X-ray diffraction patterns; and FT-IR spectroscopy. The results showed that the preparation time of U-LS-SNCs could be reduced to 2 days less than that for LS-SNCs. The smallest particle size and molecular weight were obtained after a 30 min treatment with 200 W of ultrasonic power and 5 days of acid hydrolysis. The particle size was 147 nm, the weight-average molecular weight was 3.42 × 104 Da, and the number-average molecular weight was 1.59 × 104 Da. When the applied ultrasonic power was 150 W for 30 min and acid hydrolysis was applied for 3 days, the highest relative crystallinity of the starch nanocrystals was 52.8%. The modified nanocrystals can be more widely used in various applications such as food-packaging materials, fillers, pharmaceuticals, etc.

BACKGROUND: High-risk proliferative diabetic retinopathy (HR-PDR) is the advanced stage of diabetic retinopathy progression with poor prior treatment efficacy and high rates of blindness. This meta-analysis aims to compare the efficacy and safety of pan retinal photocoagulation (PRP) combined with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (aVEGF) (PRP + aVEGF) versus PRP monotherapy in HR-PDR patients. METHODS: A thorough search was performed through PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and the Cochran Library from inception to December 18, 2022. Outcome measures included change in central macular thickness, best-corrected visual acuity, fluorescein angiography, incidence of undergoing vitrectomy, and adverse events during the follow-up period. RESULTS: Eight studies (6 randomized controlled trials and 2 retrospective studies) with 375 eyes were included in this meta-analysis. There were no obvious differences in the changes of best-corrected visual acuity and fluorescein angiography between the PRP + aVEGF and PRP monotherapy groups. However, PRP + aVEGF group had a significant reduction in the change of central macula thickness (standard mean deviations = -1.44, 95%CI = -2.55 to -0.32, P = .01) and the rate of undergoing vitrectomy (odds ratio = 0.20, 95%CI = 0.05-0.83, P = .01). Additionally, the risks of vitreous hemorrhage and other complications were not significantly different between the 2 groups. CONCLUSION SUBSECTIONS: Our meta-analysis indicated that PRP + aVEGF might have potential benefits in the treatment of HR-PDR patients. However, given several limitations of this study, more research is needed to confirm our findings.

The objective of this study was to examine the potential of enhancing the antileukemic activity of arsenic trioxide (ATO) by combining it with a folk remedy, crude methanolic extract of Mucuna macrocarpa (CMEMM). Human leukemia cells HL-60, Jurkat, and Molt-3 were treated with various doses of ATO, CMEMM, and combinations thereof for 24 and 48 h. Results indicated that the combination of 2.5 µM ATO and 50 µg/mL CMEMM synergistically inhibited cell proliferation in HL-60 and Jurkat cell lines. Apoptosis triggered by ATO/CMEMM treatment was confirmed by accumulation of cells in the sub-G(1) phase in cell cycle analyses, characteristic apoptotic nuclear fragmentation, and increased percentage of annexin V-positive apoptotic cells. Such combination treatments also led to elevation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The antioxidants N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), butylated hydroxytoluene, and α-tocopherol prevented cells from ATO/CMEMM-induced apoptosis. The ATO/CMEMM-induced activation of caspase-3 and caspase-9 can be blocked by NAC. In summary, these results suggest that ATO/CMEMM combination treatment exerts synergistic apoptosis-inducing effects in human leukemic cells through a ROS-dependent mechanism and may provide a promising antileukemic approach in the future.

OBJECTIVE: To explore if acupoint injection can improve analgesic effects or delivery outcomes in parturients who received combined spinal-epidural analgesia (CSEA) and patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) for labor analgesia. METHODS: A total of 307 participants were prospectively collected from July 2017 to December 2019. The participants were randomized into the combined acupoint injection with CSEA plus PCEA group (AICP group, n=168) and CSEA plus PCEA group (CP group, n=139) for labor analgesia using a random number table. Both groups received CSEA plus PCEA at cervical dilation 3 cm during labor process, and parturients of the AICP group were implemented acupoint injection for which bilateral acupoint of Zusanli (ST 36) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6) were selected in addition. The primary outcome was Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, and the secondary outcomes were obstetric outcomes and requirement of anesthetics doses. Safety evaluations were performed after intervention. RESULTS: The VAS scores were significantly lower in the AICP group than in the CP group at 10, 30, 60, and 120 min after labor analgesia (all P<0.05). The latent phase of the AICP group was shorter than that of the CP group (P<0.05). There were less additional anesthetics consumption, lower incidences of uterine atony, fever, pruritus and urinary retention in the AICP group than those in the CP group (all P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupoint injection combined CSEA plus PCEA for labor analgesia can decrease the anesthetic consumption, improve analgesic quality, and reduce adverse reactions in the parturients. The detailed molecular function of tumor microenvironment (TEM) in uveal melanoma (UVM) remains unclear. This study generated the immune index and the stromal index scores by ESTIMATE algorithm based on RNA-sequencing data with 80 UVM patients. There was no correlation between the immune stromal index and clinical parameters. The differentially expressed genes related to the immune stromal index were calculated and were described by functional annotations and protein-protein interaction network diagrams. After univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, there were four genes (HLA-J, MMP12, HES6, and ADAMDEC1) with significant prognostic significance. The prognostic model was constructed using these four characteristic genes, and the KM curve and tROC curve were described to show that the model had a better ability to predict survival outcomes and prognosis. The verification results in GSE62075 showed that HLA-J and HES6 were expressed differently in the cancer group than in the non-cancer group. This study indicates that the risk signature based on the immune index can be used as an indicator to evaluate the prognosis of patients with UVM.

In previous studies, we successfully prepared lotus-seed starch nanoparticles (LS-SNPs) using enzymatic methods. To further improve their performance, we studied the structural, physical and chemical properties of LS-SNPs prepared by high-pressure homogenization (HPH)-assisted enzymatic hydrolysis (EH). HPH treatments at different pressures and frequencies have a significant effect on the particle size and molecular weight of LS-SNPs. Structural analyses showed that LS-SNP and H-LS-SNP both comprised B-type starch crystals. As the homogenization pressure and frequency were increased, the relative crystallinity of H-LS-SNP first increased and then decreased, indicating that HPH treatment affected the double-helix structure of LS-SNPs. The results also show that moderate HPH treatment was beneficial for enzymatic hydrolysis, but when the HPH treatment was further increased, it destroyed the ordered structure of LS-SNPs. Our research showed that H-LS-SNPs with the smallest particle size and the highest crystallinity were obtained under pressure of 150 MPa, a homogenization frequency of five times the original, and a material-to-liquid ratio of 3%. The results indicate that HHP-assisted EH is a suitable method for preparing SNPs. These findings provide new ideas for the preparation of SNPS to meet the needs of food industry.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play an important role in the initiation, metastasis, and invasion of breast cancer. However, whether autophagy acts as a tumor promotion mechanism by inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is still controversial and remains undefined at the mechanistic levels. In this study, we investigated whether autophagy or FAP-α is required for the invasion, pulmonary metastasis and EMT of breast cancer cells and underlying mechanism. We employed an in vitro model of NIH3T3 fibroblasts treated with H2O2 and confirmed that TGF-ß1 could convert fibroblasts into CAFs through autophagy under oxidative stress in the tumor microenvironment. Modulation of autophagy by rapamycin, 3-methyladenine or ATG-5 knockdown regulated the expression of CAFs markers, suggesting a role of autophagy in the tumor promotion mechanism of TGF-ß1-induced CAFs activation. Furthermore, we established an indirect co-culture model and a mixed xenograft as a corresponding in vivo model. We demonstrated that TGF-ß1-activated CAFs promote tumor invasion, pulmonary metastasis and EMT, which act through autophagy and overexpression of FAP-α in both models, while autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine blocked these effects induced by TGF-ß1-activated CAFs. Moreover, the co-localization of LC3ß and EMT marker vimentin in mixed xenograft also revealed that TGF-ß1-activated CAFs promote tumor growth, pulmonary metastasis, and EMT program partly through autophagy. In addition, knockdown of FAP-α resulted in reversed EMT and abolished tumor invasion and pulmonary metastasis induced by TGF-ß1-activated CAFs. Taken together, we conclude that both autophagy and FAP-α are required for breast cancer cell invasion and metastasis. Targeting autophagy or FAP-α rather than both can serve as a potential approach to improve the prognosis for human breast cancer.

RATIONALE: Myiasis is a parasitic disease caused by fly larvae of the Diptera order that infest human and other vertebrate animal tissues. Orbital myiasis is a potentially destructive infestation of the orbital tissues, which may affect individuals with previous ocular diseases or disorders of consciousness. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 72-year-old man presented with a complaint of repeated pain for two years after trauma to his right eyelid and aggravated symptoms with larvae wriggling out for 2 days. An orbital computed tomography scan revealed right eyeball protrusion and periocular soft tissue edema. Two days later, magnetic resonance imaging showed that the shape of the right eyeball was changed and that the normal structure of the eyeball could not be identified. DIAGNOSES: Due to the patient's symptoms and imaging examination results, the diagnosis of orbital myiasis was made. INTERVENTIONS: The patient was treated by exenteration of the right orbit, and all necrotic tissues and larvae were removed. The defect was repaired via reconstruction with a pedicled musculocutaneous flap from the forehead region. Antibiotics and tetanus toxoid therapy were utilized to prevent potential bacterial infection. OUTCOMES: The patient recovered well postoperatively and was discharged uneventfully. During the 6-month follow-up period, the wound healed well. LESSONS: Advanced age and untreated eye trauma are risk factors for orbital myiasis. Timely removal of larvae and elimination of infections are important measures for protecting the eyeball.

The aim of this cross-sectional study is to evaluate vision-related quality of life (VRQoL) and depression in patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).The VRQoL and depression were evaluated in 58 patients with unilateral RRD and 58 healthy controls, using the Chinese version of the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (CHI-VFQ-25) and the Chinese version of Beck Depression Inventory-II, respectively.Composite scores of the CHI-VFQ-25 were significantly lower in the RRD patients, compared with the healthy controls (P < .001). Lower composite scores were associated with older age (P < .01), severer visual loss (P < .05), longer duration of the disease (P < .05), and macular involved (P < .05). The proportion of depression was significantly higher in RRD patients than healthy controls (39.66% vs 5.17%, P < .001). The depression of RRD patients was associated with the longer duration of the disease (r=0.268, P < .001).The RRD patients suffer from poor VRQoL and a high proportion of depression. Physicians should pay more attention to mental health in RRD patients.

AIM: To investigate whether the human olfactory mucosa mesenchymal stem cells (OM-MSCs) can differentiate into photoreceptor cells in vitro. METHODS: Through the olfactory mucosa adherent method, olfactory mucosa was isolated, cultured and identified in vitro among mesenchymal stem cells. The cell surface markers were analyzed by flow cytometry, induced to differentiate into retinal photoreceptor cells in vitro, and the expression of rhodopsin was observed and identified by Immunofluorescence and Western blot methods. RESULTS: OM-MSCs from human were spindle cell-based, and showing radial colony arrangement. OM-MSCs were negative for CD34, CD45 and CD105, but positive for CD73 and CD90. Following induction, a strong positive reaction was produced by photoreceptor specific marker rhodopsin in the cells. CONSLUSION: This novel finding demonstrates that OM-MSCs can be cultured and expanded in vitro. They possess biological characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells, and have the ability to be induced into retinal cells.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of 10 mg and 25 mg mifepristone per day compared with 3.75 mg enantone in treating uterine fibroids. METHODS: This is a Multicenter randomized controlled trial. A total of 501 subjects with symptomatic uterine fibroids were enrolled and randomized into the group of 10mg, 25mg mifepristone and 3.75 enantone (with 307, 102 and 92 subjects respectively), with 458 subjects completed the treatment. Three months of daily therapy with oral mifepristone (at a dose of either 10 mg or 25 mg) or once-monthly subcutaneous injections of enantone (at a dose of 3.75 mg) were used. Change in volume of the largest uterine fibroid was the primary efficacy variable, and secondary efficacy variables included changes in anemia and relevant symptom. Safety evaluation included the analyses of adverse events, laboratory values, and relevant endometrial changes. RESULTS: After three months of treatment, the mean volume of the largest leiomyoma was significantly reduced by mifepristone 10 mg or 25 mg or enantone 3.75 mg (40.27%, 42.59% and 44.49% respectively) (P < 0.0001). Percentage change from baseline in largest leiomyoma volume was not statistically significant among the three groups (P = 0.1057). Most of the patients in all groups experienced amenorrhea after the treatment. There were also significant elevations in red blood cell count, hemoglobin and hematocrit (P < 0.0001), and significant reductions in prevalence of dysmenorrhea, pelvic pressure, non-menstrual abdominal pain (P < 0.0001) in each group, while no significant difference among the three groups.All study medications are well-tolerated, and no serious adverse event was reported. Treatment-related adverse event rate was significantly lower in mifepristone 10 mg group, compared to Enantone 3.75 mg group (13.59% vs. 32.58%, P = 0.0002). In both mifepristone groups, estradiol levels were maintained in the premenopausal range, whereas patients in the enantone group had a significant reduction to postmenopausal levels (P < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: 10mg is as effective as 25mg mifepristone and 3.75 mg enantone with minimal drug-related side effects, and may provide an alternative for clinical application, especially for patient who are in perimenopause with uterine fibroids.
