RESUMEN

Osteosarcoma (OS) is one of the most common primary solid malignant tumors in orthopedics, and its main clinical treatments are surgery and chemotherapy. However, a wide surgical resection range, functional reconstruction of postoperative limbs, and chemotherapy resistance remain as challenges for patients and orthopedists. To address these problems, the discovery of new effective conservative treatments is important. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are RNAs longer than 200 nucleotides in length that do not encode proteins. Researchers have recently found that long non-coding RNAs are closely associated with the development of OS, indicating their potentially vital role in new treatment methods for OS. This review presents new findings regarding the association of lncRNAs with OS and summarizes potential clinical applications of OS with lncRNAs, including the downregulation of oncogenic lncRNAs, upregulation of tumor suppressive lncRNAs, and lncRNAs-based treatment to improve chemotherapy resistance. We hope these potential methods will be translated into clinical applications and greatly reduce patient suffering.

RESUMEN

Nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) in Shanghai urban atmosphere have been measured during the EXPO 2010 by an optical trace gas monitoring system based on room-temperature pulsed quantum cascade lasers (QCL). The results showed obvious diurnal variation in their concentrations. A great correlation was found by analyzing the diurnal variation, indicating common emission sources for both NO and CO. However analysis of the data from street canyon measurements showed that on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis NO emissions correlated only weakly with CO emissions. A possible explanation to this issue has been given.

RESUMEN

Chemically durable proton exchange membranes containing free radical scavengers have technically matured in recent years, and commercial products have come into the market. The most general type of free radical scavenger is ceria, which has been proven in many studies. However, the migration of cerium is inevitable in raw ceria particles, and the migrated cerium species can aggregate in catalyst layers, causing performance loss of fuel cells. In this work, the morphology of ceria was changed from conventional nanoparticles to nanorods, and the migration of cerium was mitigated significantly. Both ex situ Fenton's degradation tests and in situ fuel cell accelerated degradation tests (ADTs) indicated that ceria nanorods have free radical scavenging properties comparable to those of ceria nanoparticles. Moreover, the immobilization of ceria particles and antidissolving properties have been verified by Fenton's degradation tests, electric field tests and fuel cell ADTs.

RESUMEN

In view of the adverse effects of CDOM (chromophoric or colored dissolved organic matter) on in vivo algal pigment concentration measurements in natural water bodies, a CDOM influence correction method for algal concentration measurements based on three-dimensional fluorescence spectra is investigated. The three-dimensional fluorescence spectra of five common species of algae belonging to five categories, HA (humic acid), and natural water sampled from the Dongpu reservoir, Hefei were analyzed, and the spectral similarity of endogenous/exogenous CDOM in the algal fluorescence spectra region was compared. HA was selected to represent the CDOM spectrum group. The CDOM modified algal pigment concentration measurement method was developed using three-dimensional fluorescence spectra coupled with non-negative weighted least squares linear regression analysis. The results show that under the presence of CDOM interference factors, the recognition accuracy rate of Pyrrophyta, Bacillariophyta, Cyanophyta, and Chlorophyta increased 100%, 100%, 40%, and 40%, respectively. The average recovery rate of Cryptomonas, Pyrrophyta, Bacillariophyta, and Chlorophyta increased 162.7%, 50.3%, 106.4%, and 19.1%, respectively. In addition, the classification accuracy of Pyrrophyta, Bacillariophyta, Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta increased 83.9%, 100%, 38.2%, and 48%, respectively. This was concluded by comparing these results with the results of the algal pigment concentration measurement method without the CDOM modification. This study provides an experimental basis for the development of accurate phytoplankton fluorescence classification monitoring technology.

RESUMEN

Ardisia Crenata Radix is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant that belongs to the Myrsinaceae family, and its main active components are coumarins, saponins, flavonoids, and volatile oil.Bergenin, ardisicrenoside A,ardisicrenoside B,ardisiacripin A,ardisiacripin B,and embelin were identified as active anticancer compounds in in-depth studies into the anti-tumor effects of Ardisia Crenata Radix. They show high therapeutic potential in oral cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, liver cancer, colon cancer, bladder cancer, cervical cancer, and leukemia, mainly by inducing tumor cell apoptosis, increasing tumor cytotoxicity, inhibiting cell proliferation, inhibiting tumor cell metastasis and migration, and inducing cell regulatory enzyme cascade reactions. However, most preclinical experimental data on cinnabar root's anti-tumor mechanism have not been verified in high-quality,multi-sample,and repeated randomized controlled trials, and there are a lack of clinical research data on tumor prognosis, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics.Accurate research experiments and clinical trials should be designed to further explore the pharmacological effects of Ardisia Crenata Radix.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND:In consideration of the food safety and ecological safety of transgenic plants, the retention of marker genes is the primary safety issue affecting transgenic plants. OBJECTIVE:Based on the principle of immune caries prevention, our research team successfully constructed the plant anti-caries vaccine fusion gene expression vector pCAMBIA-E8-APB-DOCK8 for these two caries causing virulence factors surface protein and glucosyltransferase, which provides a basis for the research and development of transgenic plant vaccine. METHODS:In this study, the selective marker genes Km and GUS in the plant caries vaccine fusion gene expression vector pCAMBIA-E8-APB-DOCK8 were removed by DNA recombination technology through a series of steps such as DNA fragment separation, connection, transformation, clone detection, and sequencing. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The efficiency of marker gene removal was 99%.This study has laid a good experimental foundation for the safe production of transgenic plant vaccine against dental caries, and also provided ideas for the construction of other plant vaccine vectors.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND:The application of orthodontic force triggers autophagy in the periodontal tissue via diverse signaling pathways, augmenting or attenuating the activity of relevant cell types such as periodontal ligament cells, osteocytes, osteoclasts, and osteoblasts, thus facilitating the process of periodontal remodeling. OBJECTIVE:To review the research progress in orthodontic force mediated autophagy in periodontal tissue and its impact on orthodontic tooth movement. METHODS:The PubMed,Web of Science,China Biology Medicine disc and CNKI were searched for literature published from 2010 to 2023 to summarize the progress in orthodontics-related autophagy. And 76 papers were finally included in the analysis and discussion. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Orthodontic force can trigger a series of biochemical signal changes through periodontal mechanical receptors and aseptic inflammation they cause, leading to autophagy in periodontal tissue.Subsequently, autophagy generates corresponding feedback through cascaded amplified signaling pathways such as Phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B,Hippo, and mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways, promoting periodontal tissue remodeling and ultimately achieving tooth movement and stability.Orthodontic force-induced autophagy can differentially regulate bone resorption on the tooth pressure side and bone formation on the tension side.Related targets have good prospects in the clinical application of orthodontic treatment.Orthodontics and autophagy have complex mechanisms. However, existing research has only focused on exploring the role of autophagy in orthodontic tooth movement.Further exploration is needed to investigate the mutual regulatory effects between autophagy and orthodontic tooth movement,as well as the interactions between upstream mechanical receptors and signaling pathways involved in related pathways.

RESUMEN

A new coupling method is proposed for high-power laser-diode-array (LDA) end-pumped large-aperture amplifiers. In this method, stacks in the LDA are distributed on a spherical surface, and a hollow duct is placed after them. Both numerical simulations and experimental research have been done for this method. All results show that high coupling efficiency and uniform pumping field can be obtained simultaneously using this method.

RESUMEN

Objective:To investigate the safety and feasibility of the CHESS endoscpic ruler (CHESS ruler), and the consistency between the measured values and the interpretation values by endoscopic physician experience. Methods:From January 2021 to January 2022, a total of 105 liver cirrhosis patients with portal hypertension were prospectively enrolled from General Hospital, Xixia Branch Hospital, Ningnan Hospital of People′s Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (29 cases), and the First People′s Hospital of Yinchuan (25 cases), General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University (18 cases), Wuzhong People′s Hospital (10 cases), the Fifth People′s Hospital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (10 cases), Shizuishan Second People′s Hospital (6 cases), Yinchuan Second People′s Hospital (5 cases), and Zhongwei People′s Hospital (2 cases) 8 hospitals. The clinical characteristics of all the patients, including gender, age, nationality, etiolog of liver cirrhosis, and Child-Pugh classification of liver function were recorded. A big gastroesophageal varices was defined as diameter of varices ≥5 mm. Endoscopist (associated chief physician) performed gastroscopy according to the routine gastroscopy procedures, and the diameter of the biggest esophageal varices was measured by experience and images were collected, and then objective measurement was with the CHESS ruler and images were collected. The diameter of esophageal varices of 10 randomly selected patients (random number table method) was determined by 6 endoscopists (attending physician or associated chief physician) with experience or measured by CHESS ruler. Kappa test was used to test the consistency in the diameter of esophageal varices between measured values by CHESS ruler and the interpretation values by endoscopic physician experience. Results:Among 105 liver cirrhosis patients with portal hypertension, male 65 cases and female 40 cases, aged (54.8±12.2) years old, Han nationality 82 cases, Hui nationality 21 cases and Mongolian nationality 2 cases. The etiology of liver cirrhosis included chronic hepatitis B (79 cases), alcoholic liver disease (7 cases), autoimmune hepatitis (7 cases), chronic hepatitis C (2 cases), and other etiology (10 cases). Liver function of 32 cases was Child-Pugh A, Child-Pugh B 57 cases, and Child-Pugh C 16 cases. All 105 liver cirrhosis patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension were successfully measured the diameter of gastroesophageal varices by CHESS ruler, and the success rate of application of CHESS ruler was 100.0% (105/105). The procedure time from the CHESS ruler into the body to the exit of the body after measurement was (3.50±2.55) min. No complications happened in all the patients during measurement. Among 105 liver cirrhosis patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension, 96 cases (91.4%) were recognized as big gastroesophageal varices by the endoscopists. Totally 93 cases (88.6%) were considered as big gastroesophageal varices by CHESS ruler. Eight cases were recognized as big gastroesophageal varices by the endoscopist, however not by the CHESS ruler; 5 cases were recognized as big gastroesophageal varices by the CHESS ruler, but not by the endoscopists; 4 cases were not recognized as big gastroesophageal varices both by the endoscopists and CHESS ruler; 88 cases were recognized as big gastroesophageal varices both by the endoscopists and CHESS ruler. The missed diagnostic rate of big gastroesophageal varices by the endoscopists experience was 5.4% (5/93), and the Kappa value of consistency coefficient between the measurement by the CHESS ruler and the interpretation by endoscopists experience was 0.31 (95% confidence interval 0.03 to 0.60). The overall Kappa value of consistency coefficient by 6 endoscopists measured by CHESS ruler in big gastroesophageal varices diagnosis was 0.77 (95% confidence interval 0.61 to 0.93).Conclusion:As an objective measurement tool, CHESS ruler can make up for the deficiency of subjective judgment by endoscopists, accurately measure the diameter of gastroesophageal varices, and is highly feasible and safe.

RESUMEN

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is typically considered to be a chronic inflammatory-demyelinating disease of central nervous system white matter, and less attention is paid to its cortical damage. With the application of immunohistochemical and imaging techniques that are more sensitive to cortical demyelination, more and more evidence has shown that lesions are also often located in the cortex of MS patients. As research progresses, the mechanisms of cortical damage are more likely associated with meningeal inflammation, and the extent of cortical lesion involvement becomes more widespread with disease progression, and cortical lesion burden positively correlates with the severity of physical and cognitive impairments. In recent years, a new subtype of MS, with lesions involving only the cerebral cortex and spinal cord, has been reported in Lancet through pathological study of 100 autopsy cases of MS, which is different from classical MS with white matter lesions, and enriches the connotation of cortical damage of MS.

RESUMEN

The oral and maxillofacial region contains oral organs and facial soft tissues. Due to the complexity of the structures and functions of this region, the repair of related defects is complicated. Different degrees of defects require different repair methods, which involve a great combination of medicine and art, and the material requirements are extremely high. Hence, clinicians are plagued by contemporary oral repair materials due to the limitations of bone harvesting, immune rejection, low osteogenic activity and other problems. Decellularized extracellular matrix has attracted much attention as a bioactive scaffold material because of its nonimmunogenic properties, good osteogenic properties, slow release of growth factors, promotion of seed cell adhesion and maintenance of stem cell characteristics. This article reviews the sources, preparation methods, application and research progress of extracellular matrix materials in the repair of oral and maxillofacial defects to provide an overview for fundamental research and clinical development.

RESUMEN

Forkhead box protein O1 (FOXO1) has been extensively studied as a tumor suppressor. In oral squamous cell carcinoma, studies have demonstrated that FOXO1 can inhibit tumor cell oxidative stress, stemness and epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and promote tumor cell autophagy and apoptosis. FOXO1 may serve as a potential target for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

RESUMEN

To report a typical case of Morvan syndrome with positive anti-leucine rich glioma-inactivated 1(LGI1) and contactin-associated protein 2 (CASPR2) antibodies in serum and cerebrospinal fluid. A 39-years-old female initially presented weakness of extremeties. The main symptoms included paroxysmal limb pain, wheezing, itching, muscle twitching, epilepsy, hypomnesia, dysphoria, apathy, intractable insomnia, salivation and sweating. Tests of electrolytes found hypokalemia (2.7-3.1 mmol/L) and hyponatremia (130-136 mmol/L). Arterial blood gas analysis showed hypoxemia (oxygen saturation 50%-70%). Total thyroxine (TT4) was elevated to 207 nmol/L with positive thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO-Ab) and thyroglobulin antibody (TG-Ab). LGI1and CASPR2 antibodies (CBA method) were positive in both serum and cerebrospinal fluid, and the remaining antibodies related to autoimmune encephalitis and paraneoplastic syndrome were negative. Head MRI was almost normal, while mild abnormalities were found in electroencephalogram. Electromyography showed slightly increased voltage of left quadriceps motor unit potential. After treated with corticosteroids, IVIG and mycophenolate mofetil, the patient completely improved. Cognitive function scores recovered from MoCA/MMSE (16/24) to MoCA/MMSE (26/29). Positivity of LGI1/CASPR2 antibodies both in serum/cerebrospinal fluid are rarely seen in patients with Morvan syndrome. Steroids and immunosuppressants are suggested for treatment as early as possible.

RESUMEN

Objective:To analyze the risk factors of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with septic shock in intensive care unit (ICU), construct a predictive model, and explore the predictive value of the predictive model. Methods:The clinical data of patients with septic shock who were hospitalized in the ICU of the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical College from April 2015 to June 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. According to whether the patients had AKI within 7 days of admission to the ICU, they were divided into AKI group and non-AKI group. 70% of the cases were randomly selected as the training set for building the model, and the remaining 30% of the cases were used as the validation set. XGBoost model was used to integrate relevant parameters to predict the risk of AKI in patients with septic shock. The predictive ability was assessed through receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC curve), and was correlated with acute physiology and chronic health evaluationⅡ(APACHEⅡ), sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA), procalcitonin (PCT) and other comparative verification models to verify the predictive value. Results:A total of 303 patients with septic shock were enrolled, including 153 patients with AKI and 150 patients without AKI. The incidence of AKI was 50.50%. Compared with the non-AKI group, the AKI group had higher APACHEⅡscore, SOFA score and blood lactate (Lac), higher dose of norepinephrine (NE), higher proportion of mechanical ventilation, and tachycardiac. In the XGBoost prediction model of AKI risk in septic shock patients, the top 10 features were serum creatinine (SCr) level at ICU admission, NE use, drinking history, albumin, serum sodium, C-reactive protein (CRP), Lac, body mass index (BMI), platelet count (PLT), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels. Area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the XGBoost model for predicting the risk of AKI in patients with septic shock was 0.816, with a sensitivity of 73.3%, a specificity of 71.7%, and an accuracy of 72.5%. Compared with the APACHEⅡscore, SOFA score and PCT, the performance of the model improved significantly. The calibration curve of the model showed that the goodness of fit of the XGBoost model was higher than the other scores (the calibration curve had the lowest score, with a score of 0.205).Conclusion:Compared with the commonly used clinical scores, the XGBoost model can more accurately predict the risk of AKI in patients with septic shock, which helps to make appropriate diagnosis, treatment and follow-up strategies while predicting the prognosis of patients.

RESUMEN

Dental Caries is a kind of chronic oral disease that greatly threaten human being's health. Though dentists and researchers struggled for decades to combat this oral disease, the incidence and prevalence of dental caries remain quite high. Therefore, improving the disease management is a key issue for the whole population and life cycle management of dental caries. So clinical difficulty assessment system of caries prevention and management is established based on dental caries diagnosis and classification. Dentists should perform oral examination and establish dental records at each visit. When treatment plan is made on the base of caries risk assessment and carious lesion activity, we need to work out patient‑centered and personalized treatment planning to regain oral microecological balance, to control caries progression and to restore the structure and function of the carious teeth. And the follow-up visits are made based on personalized caries management. This expert consensus mainly discusses caries risk assessment, caries treatment difficulty assessment and dental caries treatment plan, which are the most important parts of caries management in the whole life cycle.
