RESUMEN

THE AIM OF THE STUDY: Was to compare manual, semi-automatic and automatic methods for determining the maxillary sinus volume using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). MATERIAL AND METHODS: CBCT images from 48 patients (96 maxillary sinuses) with no history of sinus and alveolar bone surgery, who were presented to Minsk medical centers, were used in this study. Neural network training was performed on CBCT scans of 42 patients (84 maxillary sinuses). The height, depth and width of the sinus were measured manually on CBCT scans of 6 patients (12 maxillary sinuses). Maxillary sinus volume (V) was calculated by the formula: V=height´depth´1/3 width. Semi-automatic segmentation was carried out by an expert radiologist. The convolutional neural network technology was applied for maxillary sinus automatic segmentation. RESULTS: The largest values were revealed by using the automatic method for sinus volume measurement. These values were within the 95% confidence interval (±4.29 cm3) of the average sinus volume obtained from semi-automatic method. CONCLUSION: The data obtained using the convolutional neural network technique (artificial intelligence) has a high correlation with the results of sinus morphometric analysis acquired through manual and semi-automatic methods. Automatic maxillary sinus segmentation technique does not require special user knowledge. This method is reproducible and it is implemented in a short time interval.

RESUMEN

AIM: To analyze efficiency of ozone therapy, ultrasound and cryotherapy for infected and purulent wounds due to chronic venous insufficiency. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 127 patients with chronic venous insufficiency followed by chronic wounds. Efficacy of systemic and local ozone therapy was assessed. De Sole method was used to analyze chemiluminescent and spontaneous activity of neutrophils of peripheral blood. RESULTS: Advanced generation of active forms of oxygen was revealed in patients with chronic wounds and chronic venous insufficiency. Complex ozone therapy including intravenous administration of ozonized autologous blood, oxygen-ozone and ultrasonic exposure of the wound and cryogenic stimulation reduce painful period up to 3.1±0.6 days, accelerate epithelialization of the wound and normalize release of active forms of oxygen.

RESUMEN

The article presents results of identification of somatic mutation in in gene Junus kinase-2 (V617F JAK2) in blood samples of persons included in program of dispensarization of adult population and periodic preventive examinations of workers of railroad transport. The technology of allele-specific polymerase chain reaction in real-time in pooled trials from blood samples received by clinical diagnostic laboratory for hematological analysis was developed with purpose of carrying out study. The results of testing among 986 persons aged from 45 to 90 years (median - 69 years) permitted to establish 0.7% of patients (3 females and 4 males) with mutation V617F JAK2. The high thrombogenic potential of mutation V617F JAK2 and its involvement into pathogenesis of chronic myeloid tumors makes appropriate to include test on its detection into menu of laboratory analyses of program of dispensarization of population.

RESUMEN

The natural electron accelerator in the clouds above Aragats high-altitude research station in Armenia operates continuously in 2017 providing more than 100 Thunderstorm Ground enhancements (TGEs). Most important discovery based on analysis of 2017 data is observation and detailed description of the long-lasting TGEs. We present TGE catalog for 2 broad classes according to presence or absence of the high-energy particles. In the catalog was summarized several key parameters of the TGEs and related meteorological and atmospheric discharge observations. The statistical analysis of the data collected in tables reveals the months when TGEs are more frequent, the daytime when TGEs mostly occurred, the mean distance to lightning flash that terminates TGE and many other interesting relations. Separately was discussed the sharp count rate decline and following removal of high-energy particles from the TGE flux after a lightning flash. ADEI multivariate visualization and statistical analysis platform make analytical work on sophisticated problems rather easy; one can try and test many hypotheses very fast and come to a definite conclusion allowing crosscheck and validation.

RESUMEN

Corticotomy-assisted and osteotomy-assisted tooth movement involves surgical incisions through the alveolar bone. To ascertain whether teeth move by distraction osteogenesis or by regional accelerated phenomenon (RAP), we randomly assigned 30 Sprague-Dawley rats to one of 5 experimental groups: corticotomy alone, corticotomy-assisted tooth movement, osteotomy alone, osteotomy-assisted tooth movement, or tooth movement alone. Each animal was imaged by microtomography immediately after surgery, after 21 days, and after 2 months. After 21 days, regional accelerated phenomenon was observed in the alveolar bone of the corticotomy-treated animals and distraction osteogenesis in the osteotomy-assisted tooth movement animals. Pixel count data were analyzed by nested ANOVA for 5 experimental groups, split-mouth controls, 3 levels along the root, and 5 sites per level. The most demineralized sites after 21 days differed for each of the experimental groups. Our study indicates that osteotomies and corticotomies induce different alveolar bone reactions, which can be exploited for tooth movement.
