RESUMEN
The objective of the present study was to analyse the cases of acute otitis media complicated by mastoiditis in the children given the surgical treatment during the period from 2009 till 2012. A total of 46 patients underwent antromastoidotomy. The main clinical variants of the disease, their incidence, the age composition of the affected children, and the principal etiological factors were determined.

The specific clinical feature of mastoidities that developed in a patient presenting with chicken pox was the rapid progress in temporal bone destruction with partial thrombosis of the sigmoid sinusis in the absence of typical manifestations of mastoiditis. The pronounced destructive changes found in a series of CT images were regarded as the indications for urgent antromastoidotomy with the puncture of the sigmoid sinusis.

The physiological of general working capacity in 45 people aged 80-94 years was studied. It was found that 13% of respondents preserved general working performance; 15,6% subjects who became lifelong disorders of the locomotion system are limited in motion, meanwhile can perform certain kinds of job. Physiological parameters and professional anamnesis data showed that about 70% people of fourth age have significant reduction of self-service and total disability. People with higher level of body mass index have better functional indices of physical and mental activity. The main changes of the general capacity dealing with human aging were established, in particular their physiological characteristic, rehabilitation and gerontechnology approaches were clarified.

Prevalence of mutations of genes of connexin 26, connexin 30 and mitochondrial DNA was studied among children with congenital and early childhood hearing loss. Screening with available methods of DNA diagnosis was conducted in some specialized schools. It was found that genetic disorders among children with congenital and early childhood hearing loss are rather frequent. Genetic consulting of parents with normal hearing carrying abnormal gene can help avoid birth of deaf children.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate T-cadherin expression at the early developmental stages of the mouse embryo. Using in situ hybridization and immunofluorescent staining of whole embryos in combination with confocal microscopy, we found that T-cadherin expression is detected in the developing brain, starting with the E8.75 stage, and in the heart, starting with the E11.5 stage. These data suggest a possible involvement of T-cadherin in the formation of blood vessels during embryogenesis.

Urokinase activates adhesion of monocytic U937 cells to fibrinogen-coated surface. This effect is due to urokinase proteolytic activity and does not depend on the urokinase binding to its receptor.

Urokinase type plasminogen activator (uPA) converts plasminogen to plasmin and is highly chemotactic for many cell types. We examined, using recombinant wild type and mutated forms of uPA, the extent to which its proteolytic properties, its growth-like domain (GFD) and/or interactions with the specific receptor (uPAR) contribute to the chemotactic activity towards vascular smooth muscle cells (SMC). Recombinant wild type uPA (r-uPA) stimulated cell migration nearly 5.8-fold, inactive r-uPA, with a mutation in the catalitic domain (r-uPA(H/Q)), 3-fold, uPA without growth factor like domain (r-uPA(GFD )), 2.6-fold, and a form containing both mutations (r-uPA(H/Q, GFD ), 3.3-fold. All recombinant forms of uPA, wild type and those with mutations were equally and highly effective (IC50 approximately 20 nM) in displacing 125I-r-uPA bound to SMC. These results indicate that additional mechanisms, not dependent on uPA's proteolytic activity or the binding ability of its GFD to uPAR, are the major contributors to its chemotactic action on SMC.
