PIP: 30 women, aged 22-37 years, were inserted with the Lippes Loop. 10 of these women were subjected to clinical observations and histological examinations 6 months after insertion. These served as a control to the other 20 users, who were subjected to the same examinations 2 years later. The groups who used the device for the longer period were observed to have clinically longer and more heavy menstruation than the control group. The most frequent histological aberration noted in these women was a lengthening of the proliferative phase and lateness of the secretory phase of the mucus membrane in the menstrual cycle. Inflammatory changes and reactions of the mucus membrane to the foreign body were observed less frequently^ieng
