RESUMEN

Here, we discover a player in root development. Recovered from a forward-genetic screen in Brachypodium distachyon, the buzz mutant initiates root hairs but they fail to elongate. In addition, buzz roots grow twice as fast as wild-type roots. Also, lateral roots show increased sensitivity to nitrate, whereas primary roots are less sensitive to nitrate. Using whole-genome resequencing, we identified the causal single nucleotide polymorphism as occurring in a conserved but previously uncharacterized cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)-like gene. The buzz mutant phenotypes are rescued by the wild-type B. distachyon BUZZ coding sequence and by an apparent homolog in Arabidopsis thaliana. Moreover, T-DNA mutants in A. thaliana BUZZ have shorter root hairs. BUZZ mRNA localizes to epidermal cells and develops root hairs and, in the latter, partially colocalizes with the NRT1.1A nitrate transporter. Based on qPCR and RNA-Seq, buzz overexpresses ROOT HAIRLESS LIKE SIX-1 and -2 and misregulates genes related to hormone signaling, RNA processing, cytoskeletal, and cell wall organization, and to the assimilation of nitrate. Overall, these data demonstrate that BUZZ is required for tip growth after root hair initiation and root architectural responses to nitrate.

Plant cells sheath themselves in a complex lattice of polysaccharides, proteins and enzymes forming an integral matrix known as the cell wall. Cellulose microfibrils, the primary component of cell walls, are synthesized at the plasma membrane by CELLULOSE SYNTHASE A (CESA) proteins throughout cellular growth and are responsible for turgor-driven anisotropic expansion. Associations between hormone signaling and cell wall biosynthesis have long been suggested, but recently direct links have been found revealing hormones play key regulatory roles in cellulose biosynthesis. The radially swollen 1 (rsw1) allele of Arabidopsis thaliana CESA1 harbors a single amino acid change that renders the protein unstable at high temperatures. We used the conditional nature of rsw1 to investigate how auxin contributes to isotropic growth. We found that exogenous auxin treatment reduces isotropic swelling in rsw1 roots at the restrictive temperature of 30�C. We also discovered decreases in auxin influx between rsw1 and wild-type roots via confocal imaging of AUX1-YFP, even at the permissive temperature of 19�C. Moreover, rsw1 displayed mis-expression of auxin-responsive and CESA genes. Additionally, we found altered auxin maxima in rsw1 mutant roots at the onset of swelling using DII-VENUS and DR5:vYFP auxin reporters. Overall, we conclude disrupted cell wall biosynthesis perturbs auxin transport leading to altered auxin homeostasis impacting both anisotropic and isotropic growth that affects overall root morphology.

BACKGROUND: Up to now, the investigation of joint pain in adolescents, especially in adolescent elite athletes, has been neglected. This is critical because the musculoskeletal system is still in growth and consecutive trauma and irreversible damage can result. OBJECTIVES: To shed light into the research area of joint pain in elite adolescent athletes, we studied the willingness to compete while having joint pain as part as the phenomenon of "playing hurt". Our aim was to describe which athletes are more willing to compete in spite of joint pain and which individual and sport-specific characteristics are associated with it. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used data of the nationwide GOAL study which included 1138 adolescent athletes from 51 Olympic sports (56.1% male, 14-18 years of age). RESULTS: Altogether, 43.8% of the German elite adolescent athletes were willing to participate in competition in spite of joint pain. The willingness was higher among female athletes, athletes with a higher number of competitions, athletes living in a boarding school, and athletes in weight-dependent sports. CONCLUSIONS: The fact that more than four out of ten adolescent elite athletes are willing to compete despite joint pain is alarming because joint pain can have severe long-term health consequences. It is important that trainers, managers and physicians offer assistance in the treatment of joint pain and support them as much as possible in therapy and pain management. The overarching aim should be to prevent irreversible damage as well as a premature end of the sports career.

An (η5-cyclopentadienyl)cobalt(i) complex was covalently incorporated into an engineered variant of the transmembrane protein ferric hydroxamate uptake protein component: A, FhuA ΔCVFtev, using a thiol-ene reaction. A CD spectrum shows the structural integrity of the biohybrid catalyst. MALDI-TOF of the segment containing the anchoring site for the cobalt complex Cys545 confirmed successful conjugation. This biohybrid catalyst catalyzed the cyclotrimerization of phenylacetylene to give a mixture of regioisomeric 1,2,4- and 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene in aqueous medium.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate how subjective control over intake is influenced by objective aspects of consumption, negative affect, and recent binge eating. METHOD: 105 participants with or without current binge eating (BE) consumed a meal replacement shake following a 12-hour overnight fast in a 2 × 2 design: participants were instructed to either consume the entire shake (no control) or decide on their own how much to consume (affirmative control). They were allotted either 5 (fast) or 15 (slow) minutes to complete the task. Participants reported on subjective control and negative affect following consumption. RESULTS: Compared to the slow condition, participants in the fast condition reported higher negative affect after eating. Individuals without a history of BE reported lower subjective control in the no control compared to the affirmative control condition; however, this pattern was reversed among those with BE, such that individuals reported higher subjective control following consumption in the no control condition. In addition, subjective control was positively associated with negative affect in the no control condition whereas it was negatively associated with negative affect in the affirmative control condition. DISCUSSION: Eating rate influences affect, and subjective control over eating may be the result of an interaction of objective control with affect. Thus, distress may drive perceptions of control. This should be directly tested in future studies and has implications for how we understand BE.

Plant morphogenesis depends on the synchronized anisotropic expansion of individual cells in response to developmental and environmental cues. The magnitude of cell expansion depends on the biomechanical properties of the cell wall, which in turn depends on both its biosynthesis and extensibility. Although the control of cell expansion by the phytohormone auxin is well established, its regulation of cell wall composition, trafficking of H+-ATPases, and K+ influx that drives growth is still being elucidated. Furthermore, the maintenance of auxin fluxes via the interaction between the cytoskeleton and PIN protein recycling on the plasma membrane remains under investigation. This review proposes a model that describes how the cell wall, auxin, microtubule binding-protein CLASP and Kin7/separase complexes, and vesicle trafficking are co-ordinated on a cellular level to mediate cell wall loosening during cell expansion.

The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the repeatability of measurements of ß-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) concentrations in capillary blood obtained from minimal-invasive puncturing of different sites at the external vulva skin of dairy cows. A total of 240 multiparous cows sampled once within 21 d in milk were enrolled in the study. Capillary blood samples were obtained from the right and left labium of the external vulva skin and additionally from a site close to the first puncture. Samples were analyzed by using an electronic hand-held device [FreeStyle Precison Neo (FSP-Neo), Abbott GmbH & Co., Wiesbaden, Germany)]. Additionally, samples from a coccygeal vessel were analyzed as reference in a laboratory. Mean deviations (± standard deviation) between the 3 capillary sampling sites ranged from 0.01 ± 0.14 (left vs. right labium) to 0.02 ± 0.13 mmol/L (left or right labium vs. additional site). The BHB concentrations in capillary blood compared with the reference showed a mean deviation of 0.14 ± 0.18 mmol/L. The Spearman correlation coefficient between BHB concentrations in capillary blood and coccygeal blood was 85.4%. Mixed model analyses showed no significant effect of sampling site or squeezing the skin during sampling procedures on the differences toward the reference. Based on laboratory BHB concentrations of ≥1.2 and ≥1.4 mmol/L, respectively, the prevalence of hyperketonemia was 10.4 (n = 25) and 5.0% (n = 12). Thresholds to detect hyperketonemia with the FSP-Neo were optimized by receiver operating characteristic analyses. Based on a laboratory BHB concentration of ≥1.2 mmol/L thresholds were determined as 1.1 (left labium, 2nd puncture) and 1.0 mmol/L (right labium), with sensitivities between 94 and 99% and specificities between 89 and 97%. Based on a serum BHB concentration of 1.4 mmol/L, receiver operating characteristic analyses resulted in optimized cutoffs of 1.4 mmol/L for all sampling sites at the vulva, with sensitivities of 100% and specificities between 96 and 99%. In conclusion, vulvar capillary blood is suitable for accurate measuring of BHB concentrations by using the FSP-Neo. After adjusting the thresholds, the FSP-Neo provides very good test characteristics independent of the capillary sampling site or squeezing the skin and allows a practical and reliable screening tool for dairy cows.

The primary objective of the present study was to test whether capillary blood obtained by puncturing the skin of an ear with a minimal invasive lancet technique is able to detect hyperketonemia (HYK) in dairy cows. Furthermore, test characteristics of a new available handheld device, the FreeStyle Precision Neo (FSP-Neo, Abbott GmbH & Co. KG, Wiesbaden, Germany) for determination of ß-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) concentrations in bovine blood were evaluated by comparing the measurements with a laboratory reference. The BHB concentration was determined with the FSP-Neo device in 720 capillary blood samples from 3 different sampling sites (left, right ear, and repeated measurement) and in 240 samples from a coccygeal vessel. The concentration of BHB in serum harvested from the coccygeal blood samples was analyzed at the laboratory and was used as reference. The Spearman correlation coefficient (ρs) between the BHB concentrations in capillary blood measured with the handheld device and the reference test was between 0.76 and 0.81. Using capillary blood, the mean ± standard deviation BHB difference compared with the reference test was 0.20±0.47 mmol/L for all 3 sampling locations at the ears. The receiver operating characteristic analyses for the FSP-Neo device resulted in an optimized threshold for the detection of subclinical ketosis (SCK) in capillary blood of 1.3 mmol/L (left and right ear) and 1.2 mmol/L (repeated measurements). Applying these adjusted threshold sensitivities (Se) for all 3 capillary sampling sites at the ear were 100%, and specificities (Sp) ranged between 93 and 94%. Hence, we conclude that all sampling locations were suitable to identify cows suffering from SCK. The reference test compared with BHB measurements in coccygeal blood resulted in a ρs of 0.92 with a mean ± standard deviation of 0.02±0.21 mmol/L. The receiver operating characteristic analyses for the FSP-Neo device resulted in an optimized threshold for the detection of SCK in coccygeal blood of 1.1 mmol/L, with a corresponding Se and Sp of 100 and 95%, respectively. Because capillary blood is easily achievable from an ear, particularly if animals are fixed in headlocks for routine checkups, this technique is considered as an additional minimally invasive method for the identification of dairy cows suffering from HYK.

BACKGROUND: For patients with primary refractory or relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML), no treatment of choice has until now been defined to date. Cytarabine (Ara-C) is a key drug in the treatment of AML patients, there is still uncertainly regarding its optimal dose and infusion schedule. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of the Ara-C infusion schedule used as part of an intensive salvage regimen, in patients with relapsed or refractory AML. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 252 adult patients (median age 59 years) with relapsed or refractory AML were randomly allocated to receive either Mito-FLAG with Ara-C as bolus (B) (1000 mg/m(2) over 1 h, every 12 h, days 1-5), or continuous infusion (CI) (150 mg/m(2) over 24 h, days 1-5) in combination with mitoxantrone, fludarabine, and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). Autologous or allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation was offered as consolidation therapy. Primary end point was the rate of complete remissions (CRs) after the first cycle of Mito-FLAG. RESULTS: The CR rates after Mito-FLAG (B) and Mito-FLAG (CI) were 54% and 43%, respectively (P = 0.1). There was no statistical difference between rates of grade 3/4 neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, mucositis, renal, and liver toxicity. More infections occurred, however, after Mito-FLAG (B) compared with Mito-FLAG (CI) (80% versus 69%, P = 0.01). The early death rate by day 42 was 13% in both arms. Median disease-free survival was comparable in the two arms (7.8 versus 7.1 months, P = 0.53) as was overall survival (7.1 versus 6.6 months, P = 0.53). CONCLUSION: A 5-day course of Ara-C 2 × 1000 mg/m(2) administered as bolus versus Ara-C 150 mg/m(2) administered by CI (in combination with mitoxantrone, fludarabine, and G-CSF), resulted in a nonsignificant trend in response rates in favor of Mito-FLAG (B) at the selected dose levels, but no differences in the survival outcome in relapsed or refractory AML. RESUMEN

The Nπ^{0}π^{0} decays of positive-parity N^{*} and Δ^{*} resonances at about 2 GeV are studied at ELSA by photoproduction of two neutral pions off protons. The data reveal clear evidence for several intermediate resonances: Δ(1232), N(1520)3/2^{-}, and N(1680)5/2^{+}, with spin parities J^{P}=3/2^{+}, 3/2^{-}, and 5/2^{+}. The partial wave analysis (within the Bonn-Gatchina approach) identifies N(1440)1/2^{+} and the N(ππ)_{S wave} (abbreviated as Nσ here) as further isobars and assigns the final states to the formation of nucleon and Δ resonances and to nonresonant contributions. We observe the known Δ(1232)π decays of Δ(1910)1/2^{+}, Δ(1920)3/2^{+}, Δ(1905)5/2^{+}, Δ(1950)7/2^{+}, and of the corresponding spin-parity series in the nucleon sector, N(1880)1/2^{+}, N(1900)3/2^{+}, N(2000)5/2^{+}, and N(1990)7/2^{+}. For the nucleon resonances, these decay modes are reported here for the first time. Further new decay modes proceed via N(1440)1/2^{+}π, N(1520)3/2^{-}π, N(1680)5/2^{+}π, and Nσ. The latter decay modes are observed in the decay of N^{*} resonances and at most weakly in Δ^{*} decays. It is argued that these decay modes provide evidence for a 3-quark nature of N^{*} resonances rather than a quark-diquark structure.

Consumer health risk assessment for feed additives is based on the estimated human exposure to the additive that may occur in livestock edible tissues compared to its hazard. We present an approach using alternative methods for consumer health risk assessment. The aim was to use the fewest possible number of animals to estimate its hazard and human exposure without jeopardizing the safety upon use. As an example we selected the feed flavoring substance piperine and applied in silico modeling for residue estimation, results from literature surveys, and Read-Across to assess metabolism in different species. Results were compared to experimental in vitro metabolism data in rat and chicken, and to quantitative analysis of residues' levels from the in vivo situation in livestock. In silico residue modeling showed to be a worst case: the modeled residual levels were considerably higher than the measured residual levels. The in vitro evaluation of livestock versus rodent metabolism revealed no major differences in metabolism between the species. We successfully performed a consumer health risk assessment without performing additional animal experiments. As shown, the use and combination of different alternative methods supports animal welfare consideration and provides future perspective to reducing the number of animals.

The adoptive transfer of natural regulatory T cells (nTreg) is a new option to reshape undesired immune reactivity in autoimmunity and transplantation toward "tolerance." The first clinical trials using adoptive transfer of polyclonal nTreg demonstrated safety and hints of efficacy. However, the low frequencies of antigen-specific cells among the pool of polyclonal nTreg and their broad antigen nonspecific suppression are limitations of this approach regarding efficacy and safety. Recently, the isolation and expansion of (allo)antigen-specific nTreg have successfully been achieved by using Treg-specific activation markers but the yield is relatively low. Here, we describe a novel good manufacturing practice (GMP)-compatible expansion protocol of alloantigen-specific nTreg based on the stimulation of nTreg by allogeneic activated B cells. Their functionality and specificity are superior compared to polyclonal nTreg both in vitro and in vivo. Employing an allogeneic B cell bank, designed to cover the majority of HLA types, allows fast GMP-compliant manufacturing for donor-specific nTreg for clinical application in organ and stem cell transplantation. TCR repertoire analyses by next generation sequencing revealed impressive expansion by several log-steps of even very low-abundance alloantigen-specific nTreg clones. This novel method offers a simple approach for expanding antigen-specific nTreg and is characterized by high replicability and easy transferability to full GMP standards.

Elite athletes often find themselves in a dilemma between maintaining optimal health to be successful and accepting health risks by pushing their physical limits. For elite adolescent athletes, this dilemma becomes a trilemma as they are also confronted with developmental challenges typical for adolescence. As many adolescents encounter different substances during this critical period of development, we analyzed prevalence of substance use to identify determinants related to these behaviors and to compare the prevalences with nonelite athletes. Our main data were drawn from the German Young Olympic Athletes' Lifestyle and Health Management Study (GOAL Study) including 1138 elite adolescent athletes (14-18 years). For comparisons, the data were combined with data from the German Health Interview and Examination Survey for Children and Adolescents (KiGGS). Beside uni- and bivariate analyses, we conducted (conditional) logistic regression analyses. Eighty-six percent had consumed alcohol at least once. Binge drinking was performed by 24% during the last month. Alcohol consumption was positively associated with age, education, technical sports, lower squads, and attending boarding schools. Binge drinking was higher in males, older adolescents, and in technical sports. Smoking (3%) and marijuana use (3%) were less prevalent. Compared with nonelite athletes, they showed less risky behavior except for binge drinking. RESUMEN

A 43-year-old male patient with recurring impaired consciousness and retrograde amnesia was admitted to the department of neurology. During the neurological evaluation no pathological findings could initially be revealed but one day the patient was confused again and presented with inadequate behavior: at this time a blood glucose value of 40 mg/dl was measured. For further evaluation the patient was transferred to our department. As the reason for the impaired consciousness was suspected to be of neuroglucopenic origin a rapid adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation test was first performed to rule out adrenal insufficiency. For further evaluation a fasting test was conducted: after 48 h an episode with neuroglucopenic symptoms occurred again which disappeared after intravenous administration of glucose. The laboratory results of glucose, insulin and c-peptide determined at this point in time led to the diagnosis of an insulinoma. By ultrasound examination a hypoechogenic lesion 1.5 cm in size could be shown in the head of the pancreas and was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). After duodenum-preserving partial pancreatic head resection with enucleation of the insulinoma no further neuroglucopenic symptoms occurred.

Introduction: Recent evidence indicates that respiratory distress (RD) in near-term infants is caused by elevated airway liquid (EL) volume at the beginning of air-breathing after birth. While the adverse effects EL volumes on newborn lung function are known, the effects on respiratory control and breathing patterns shortly after birth (<4 h) are unknown. We investigated the effects of EL volumes on cardiorespiratory function and breathing patterns in spontaneously breathing near-term newborn lambs in the first hours after birth. Methods: At 137-8 days gestation (2-3 days prior to delivery; term ∼147 days), sterile surgery was performed on fetal sheep (n = 17) to implant catheters and blood flow probes. At 140 days, lambs were delivered via caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia. Airway liquid volumes were adjusted to mimic the level expected following vaginal delivery (∼10 ml/kg; Controls; n = 7), or elective caesarean section (∼30 ml/kg; elevated airway liquid group; EL; n = 10). Spontaneous breathing and cardiorespiratory parameters were recorded over four hours after birth. Non-invasive respiratory support with supplemental oxygen was provided if required. Results: EL lambs required higher inspired oxygen levels (p = 0.0002), were less active (p = 0.026), fed less (p = 0.008) and had higher respiratory morbidity scores than Controls (p < 0.0001). EL lambs also displayed higher rates of breathing patterns associated with RD, such as expiratory braking and tachypnoea. These patterns were particularly evident in male EL lambs who displayed higher levels of severe respiratory morbidity (e.g., expiratory braking) than female EL lambs. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that EL volumes at birth trigger respiratory behaviour and breathing patterns that resemble clinically recognised features of RD in term infants.

Clonotype analysis is essential for complete characterization of antigen-specific T cells. Moreover, knowledge on clonal identity allows tracking of antigen-specific T cells in whole blood and tissue infiltrates and can provide information on antigenic specificity. Here, we developed a next generation sequencing (NGS)-based platform for the highly quantitative clonotype characterization of T cells and determined requirements for the unbiased characterization of the input material (DNA, RNA, ex vivo derived or cell culture expanded T cells). Thereafter we performed T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire analysis of various specimens in clinical settings including cytomegalovirus (CMV), polyomavirus BK (BKV) reactivation and acute cellular allograft rejection. Our results revealed dynamic nature of virus-specific T cell clonotypes; CMV reactivation was linked to appearance of new highly abundant antigen-specific clonalities. Moreover, analysis of clonotype overlap between BKV-, alloantigen-specific T cell-, kidney allograft- and urine-derived lymphocytes provided hints for the differential diagnosis of allograft dysfunction and enabled appropriate therapy adjustment. We believe that the established approach will provide insights into the regulation of virus-specific/anti-tumor immunity and has high diagnostic potential in the clinical routine.

Graves' disease (GD) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) are the most common autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) affecting up to 5% of the general population. In Caucasians HT has a prevalence of up to 4.60% and GD a prevalence of 1-2%. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between HLA-A2 and the AITDs GD and HT among Caucasians. HLA alleles of 33 patients with GD and 75 patients with HT were determined by serological typing. The frequency of HLA A2 was significantly reduced in GD (p=0.033) but not in HT (p=n.s.) as compared to control samples. In individuals positive for HLA-A2 odds ratio for protection from GD was found to be 2.8. This study supports the hypothesis that genetic predisposition to GD is not restricted to MHC class II molecules. The significant negative association between HLA A2 and GD supports the hypothesis that MHC class I genes may be relevant for the protection from GD. In contrast the nonsignificant results for HT indicate that this association may not apply to AITDs in general.

Introduction: The transition to newborn life has typically been studied in intubated and mechanically ventilated newborn lambs delivered via caesarean section (CS) under general anaesthesia. As a result, little is known of the spontaneous breathing patterns in lambs at birth, particularly those at risk of developing respiratory distress (RD). We have developed a method for delivering spontaneously breathing near-term lambs to characterise their breathing patterns in the immediate newborn period. Methods: At 137-8 days gestation (2-3 days prior to delivery; term ∼147 days), fetal lambs (n = 7) were partially exteriorised for instrumentation (insertion of catheters and flow probes) before they were returned to the uterus. At 140 days, lambs were delivered via CS under light maternal sedation and spinal anaesthesia. Lambs were physically stimulated and when continuous breathing was established, the umbilical cord was clamped. Breathing patterns were assessed by measuring intrapleural and upper-tracheal pressures during the first four hours after birth. Results: Newborn lambs display significant heterogeneity in respiratory patterns in the immediate newborn period that change with time after birth. Seven distinct breathing patterns were identified including: (i) quiet (tidal) breathing, (ii) breathing during active periods, (iii) breathing during oral feeding, (iv) tachypnoea, (v) expiratory braking manoeuvres, (vi) expiratory pauses or holding, and (vii) step changes in ventilation. Conclusions: We have described normal respiratory behaviour in newborn lambs, in order to identify respiratory behaviours that are indicative of RD in term newborn infants.

Background: Optimizing respiratory support after birth requires real-time feedback on lung aeration. We hypothesized that lung ultrasound (LUS) can accurately monitor the extent and progression of lung aeration after birth and is closely associated with oxygenation. Methods: Near-term (140 days gestation, term ∼147 days), spontaneously breathing lambs with normal (controls; n = 10) or elevated lung liquid levels (EL; n= 9) were delivered by Caesarean section and monitored for four hours after birth. LUS (Phillips CX50, L3-12 transducer) images and arterial blood gases were taken every 5-20 min. LUS images were analyzed both qualitatively (grading) and quantitatively (using the coefficient of variation of pixel intensity (CoV) to estimate the degree of lung aeration), which was correlated with the oxygen exchange capacity of the lungs (Alveolar-arterial difference in oxygen; AaDO2). Results: Lung aeration, measured using LUS, and the AaDO2 improved over the first 4 h after birth. The increase in lung aeration measured using CoV of pixel intensity, but not LUS grade, was significantly reduced in EL lambs compared to controls (p = 0.02). The gradual decrease in AaDO2 after birth was significantly correlated with increased lung aeration in both control (grade, r2 = 0.60, p < 0.0001; CoV, r2 = 0.54, p < 0.0001) and EL lambs (grade, r2 = 0.51, p < 0.0001; CoV, r2 = 0.44, p < 0.0001). Conclusions: LUS can monitor lung aeration and liquid clearance after birth in spontaneously breathing near-term lambs. Image analysis techniques (CoV) may be able detect small to moderate differences in lung aeration in conditions with lung liquid retention which are not readily identified using qualitative LUS grading.

The first measurement is reported of the double-polarization observable G in the photoproduction of neutral pions off protons, covering the photon energy range from 620 to 1120 MeV and the full solid angle. G describes the correlation between the photon polarization plane and the scattering plane for protons polarized along the direction of the incoming photon. The observable is highly sensitive to contributions from baryon resonances. The new results are compared to the predictions from SAID, MAID, and BnGa partial wave analyses. In spite of the long-lasting efforts to understand γp→pπ(0) as the simplest photoproduction reaction, surprisingly large differences between the new data and the latest predictions are observed which are traced to different contributions of the N(1535) resonance with spin parity J(P)=1/2(-) and N(1520) with J(P)=3/2(-). In the third resonance region, where N(1680) with J(P)=5/2(+) production dominates, the new data are reasonably close to the predictions.
