RESUMEN

The interplay among frustrated lattice geometry, non-trivial band topology and correlation yields rich quantum states of matter in kagome systems1,2. A series of recent members in this family, AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb or Cs), exhibit a cascade of symmetry-breaking transitions3, involving the 3Q chiral charge ordering4-8, electronic nematicity9,10, roton pair density wave11 and superconductivity12. The nature of the superconducting order is yet to be resolved. Here we report an indication of dynamic superconducting domains with boundary supercurrents in intrinsic CsV3Sb5 flakes. The magnetic field-free superconducting diode effect is observed with polarity modulated by thermal histories, suggesting that there are dynamic superconducting order domains in a spontaneous time-reversal symmetry-breaking background. Strikingly, the critical current exhibits double-slit superconductivity interference patterns when subjected to an external magnetic field. The characteristics of the patterns are modulated by thermal cycling. These phenomena are proposed as a consequence of periodically modulated supercurrents flowing along certain domain boundaries constrained by fluxoid quantization. Our results imply a time-reversal symmetry-breaking superconducting order, opening a potential for exploring exotic physics, for example, Majorana zero modes, in this intriguing topological kagome system.

Conventional approaches employing nanopowder particles or deposition photocatalytic nanofilm materials encounter challenges such as performance instability, susceptibility to detachment, and recycling complications in practical photocatalytic scenarios. In this study, a novel fabrication strategy is proposed that uses femtosecond laser direct writing of self-sourced metal to prepare a self-supporting microstructure substrate and combines the hydrothermal method to construct a three-dimensional spatially distributed metal oxide micro/nanostructure. The obtained wurtzite ZnO micro/nanostructure has excellent wetting properties while obtaining a larger specific surface area and can achieve effective adsorption of methyl orange molecules. Moreover, the tight integration of ZnO with the surface interface of the self-sourced metal microstructure substrate will facilitate efficient charge transfer. Simultaneously, it improves the efficiency of light utilization (absorption) and the number of active sites in the photocatalytic process, ultimately leading to excellent photodegradation stability. This result provides an innovative technology solution for achieving efficient semiconductor surface-interface photocatalytic performance and stability.

AIMS: To evaluate the impact of a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist tirzepatide (TZP), and its potential dose-response effect, on heart rate. METHODS: Articles were searched from PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and clinical trials registries (ClinicalTrials.gov) databases. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing TZP at doses of 5, 10 and 15 mg in adults with type 2 diabetes were included. Six study arms were summarized from original research (TZP 5, 10 and 15 mg, GLP-1 receptor agonists [GLP-1RAs], insulin, placebo). The GLP-1RA and non-GLP-1RA groups were combined to form a control group. Two reviewers independently extracted data and assessed the quality of each study. Mean differences (MDs) were calculated as effect estimates for continuous outcomes. Pairwise meta-analyses and network meta-analyses were conducted. The study protocol was prospectively registered (PROSPERO ID: CRD42023418551). RESULTS: Eight articles were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The mean baseline heart rate ranged from 65.2 to 75.7 beats per minute. Pairwise meta-analysis showed that, compared with combined the control group, there were significantly greater increases in heart rates in the TZP group (MD 1.82, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.75, 2.89). Similar significant rises were identified when comparing TZP with GLP-1RAs and non-GLP-1RAs (GLP-1 RAs: MD 2.29, 95% CI 1.00, 3.59; non-GLP-1RAs: MD 1.58, 95% CI 0.26, 2.91). TZP 5 mg was associated with smaller increases in heart rates compared to TZP 10 mg and TZP 15 mg (TZP 10 mg: MD -0.97, 95% CI -1.79, -0.14; TZP 15 mg: MD -2.57, 95% CI -3.79, -1.35). TZP 10 mg increased heart rate less than TZP 15 mg (MD -1.5, 95% CI -2.38, -0.82). Network meta-analysis indicated that TZP 15 mg was associated with significant increases in heart rate compared with TZP 5 mg (MD 2.53, 95% CI 1.43, 3.62), TZP 10 mg (MD 1.44, 95% CI 0.35, 2.53), GLP-1RAs (MD 3.46, 95% CI 1.67, 5.25), insulin (MD 2.86, 95% CI 1.32, 4.41) and placebo (MD 2.96, 95% CI 1.36, 4.57). CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed not only that there was a greater increase in heart rate in the TZP group than in the control, GLP-1RA and non-GLP-1RA groups, but also that the 15-mg dose of TZP had the strongest impact on increasing heart rates compared with the other five inventions, with a TZP dose-response impact on heart rate. Further research on the effects of TZP treatment-related increases in heart rate is required.

The immobilization of tiny active species within inert mesoporous silica imparts a range of functions, enhancing their applicability. A significant obstacle is the spontaneous migration and aggregation of these species within the mesopores, which threaten their uniform distribution. To address this, we propose a postmodification method that involves grafting transition metal oxide nanoclusters into silica mesopores via interfacial condensation, catalyzed by acetate ions. Specifically, CuO nanoclusters, in the form of oligomeric [O1-x-Cu2-(OH) 2x]n2+, have a strong interaction with the silica framework. This interaction inhibits their growth and prevents mesopore blockage. Theoretical calculation results reveal that the acetate ion promotes proton transfer among various hydroxy species, lowering the free energy and thereby facilitating the formation of Cu-O-Si bonds. This technique has also been successfully applied to the encapsulation of four other types of transition metal oxide nanoclusters. Our encapsulation strategy effectively addresses the challenge of dispersing transition metal oxides in mesoporous silica, offering a straightforward and widely applicable method for enhancing the functionality of mesoporous materials.

KEY MESSAGE: The interaction network and pathway map uncover the potential crosstalk between sugar and hormone metabolisms as a possible reason for leaf senescence in P. ternata. Pinellia ternata, an environmentally sensitive medicinal plant, undergoes leaf senescence twice a year, affecting its development and yield. Understanding the potential mechanism that delays leaf senescence could theoretically decrease yield losses. In this study, a typical senescent population model was constructed, and an integrated analysis of transcriptomic and metabolomic profiles of P. ternata was conducted using two early leaf senescence populations and two stay-green populations. The result showed that two key gene modules were associated with leaf senescence which were mainly enriched in sugar and hormone signaling pathways, respectively. A network constructed by unigenes and metabolisms related to the obtained two pathways revealed that several compounds such as D-arabitol and 2MeScZR have a higher significance ranking. In addition, a total of 130 hub genes in this network were categorized into 3 classes based on connectivity. Among them, 34 hub genes were further analyzed through a pathway map, the potential crosstalk between sugar and hormone metabolisms might be an underlying reason of leaf senescence in P. ternata. These findings address the knowledge gap regarding leaf senescence in P. ternata, providing candidate germplasms for molecular breeding and laying theoretical basis for the realization of finely regulated cultivation in future.

BACKGROUND: The evaluation of patients with fatty liver as defined by metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in the real world remains poorly researched. This study aimed to analyse the clinical and histological features of patients with MAFLD and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and to characterize each metabolic subgroup of MAFLD. METHODS: A total of 2563 patients with fatty liver confirmed by ultrasonography and/or magnetic resonance tomography and/or liver biopsy-proven from three hospitals in China were included in the study. Patients were divided into different groups according to diagnostic criteria for MAFLD and NAFLD, and MAFLD into different subgroups. RESULTS: There were 2337 (91.2%) patients fitting the MAFLD criteria, and 2095 (81.7%) fitting the NAFLD criteria. Compared to patients with NAFLD, those with MAFLD were more likely to be male, had more metabolic traits, higher liver enzyme levels, and noninvasive fibrosis scores. Among the patients with liver biopsy, the extent of advanced fibrosis in cases with MAFLD was significantly higher than those with NAFLD, 31.8% versus 5.2% (P < .001); there was no significant difference in advanced fibrosis between obese cases and lean individuals in MAFLD (P > .05); MAFLD complicated with diabetes had significantly higher advanced fibrosis than those without diabetes (43.3% and 17.2%, respectively; P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with MAFLD have a higher degree of liver fibrosis than NAFLD patients. In addition, diabetic patients should be screened for fatty liver and liver fibrosis degree.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Both hypoalbuminemia and inflammation were common in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), however, the combination of the two parameters on hospital duration re-mained unknown. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: This is a retrospective two-centre study performed in two tertiary hospitals in Shanghai, China. Serum levels of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and albumin (ALB) were measured within 2 days of admission. Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), based on CRP and ALB, was calculated as follows: point "0" as CRP <10 mg/L and ALB ≥35 g/L; point "1" as either CRP ≥10 mg/L or ALB <35 g/L; point "2" as CRP ≥10 mg/L and ALB <35 g/L. Patients with point "0" were classified as low-risk while point "2" as high-risk. Length of hospital stay (LOS) was defined as the interval between admission and discharge. RESULTS: The proportion of low-risk and high-risk was 69.3% and 10.5% respectively among 3,009 patients (65% men). GPS was associated with LOS [ß=6.2 d; 95% CI (confidence interval): 4.0 d, 8.4 d] after adjustment of potential co-variates. Each point of GPS was associated with 2.9 days (95% CI: 1.9 d, 3.9 d; ptrend<0.001) longer in fully adjusted model. The association was stronger in patients with low prealbumin levels, hypocalcaemia, and hypokalaemia relative to their counterparts. CONCLUSIONS: GPS was associated with LOS in IBD patients. Our results highlighted that GPS could serve as a convenient prognostic tool associated with nutritional status and clinical outcome.

Ganoderma lucidum, renowned as an essential edible and medicinal mushroom in China, remains shrouded in limited understanding concerning the intrinsic mechanisms governing the accumulation of active components and potential protein expression across its diverse developmental stages. Accordingly, this study employed a meticulous integration of metabolomics and proteomics techniques to scrutinize the dynamic alterations in metabolite accumulation and protein expression in G. lucidum throughout its growth phases. The metabolomics analysis unveiled elevated levels of triterpenoids, steroids, and polyphenolic compounds during the budding stage (BS) of mushroom growth, with prominent compounds including Diplazium and Ganoderenic acids E, H, and I, alongside key steroids such as cholesterol and 4,4-dimethyl-5alpha-cholesta-8,14,24-trien-3beta-ol. Additionally, nutrients such as polysaccharides, flavonoids, and purines exhibited heightened presence during the maturation stage (FS) of ascospores. Proteomic scrutiny demonstrated the modulation of triterpenoid synthesis by the CYP450, HMGR, HMGS, and ERG protein families, all exhibiting a decline as G. lucidum progressed, except for the ARE family, which displayed an upward trajectory. Therefore, BS is recommended as the best harvesting period for G. lucidum. This investigation contributes novel insights into the holistic exploitation of G. lucidum.

Oxidative stress and related oxidative damage have a causal relation with the pathogenesis of hypertension. Therefore, it is crucial to determine the mechanism of oxidative stress in hypertension by applying mechanical forces on cells to simulate hypertension while monitoring the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) from cells under an oxidative stress environment. However, cellular level research has rarely been explored because monitoring the ROS released by cells is still challenging owing to the interference of O2. In this study, an Fe single-atom-site catalyst anchored on N-doped carbon-based materials (Fe SASC/N-C) was synthesized, which exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at a peak potential of +0.1 V and can effectively avoid the interference of O2. Furthermore, we constructed a flexible and stretchable electrochemical sensor based on the Fe SASC/N-C catalyst to study the release of cellular H2O2 under simulated hypoxic and hypertension conditions. Density functional theory calculations show that the highest transition state energy barrier from the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), i.e., O2 to H2O, is 0.38 eV. In comparison, the H2O2 reduction reaction (HPRR) can be completed only by overcoming a lower energy barrier of 0.24 eV, endowing the HPRR to be more favorable on Fe SASC/N-C compared with the ORR. This study provided a reliable electrochemical platform for real-time investigation of H2O2-related underlying mechanisms of the hypertension process.

Many animals, including insects, exhibit plasticity of body colour in response to environmental changes. Varied expression of carotenoids, major cuticle pigments, significantly contributes to body colour flexibility. However, the molecular mechanisms by which environmental cues regulate carotenoid expression remain largely unknown. In this study, we used the ladybird Harmonia axyridis as a model to investigate the photoperiodic-responsive plasticity of elytra coloration and its endocrine regulation. It was found that H. axyridis females under long-day conditions develop elytra that are much redder than those under short-day conditions, resulting from the differential accumulation of carotenoids. Exogenous hormone application and RNAi-mediated gene knockdown indicate that carotenoid deposition was directed through the juvenile hormone (JH) receptor-mediated canonical pathway. Moreover, we characterized an SR-BI/CD36 (SCRB) gene SCRB10 as the carotenoid transporter responding to JH signalling and regulating the elytra coloration plasticity. Taken together, we propose that JH signalling transcriptionally regulates the carotenoid transporter gene for the photoperiodic coloration plasticity of elytra in the beetles, which reveals a novel role of the endocrine system in the regulation of carotenoid-associated animal body coloration under environmental stimuli.

There is considerable interest in developing antibodies as functional modulators of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling for both therapeutic and research applications. However, there are few antibody ligands targeting GPCRs outside of the chemokine receptor group. GPCRs are challenging targets for conventional antibody discovery methods, as many are highly conserved across species, are biochemically unstable upon purification, and possess deeply buried ligand-binding sites. Here, we describe a selection methodology to enrich for functionally modulatory antibodies using a yeast-displayed library of synthetic camelid antibody fragments called "nanobodies." Using this platform, we discovered multiple nanobodies that act as antagonists of the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R). Following angiotensin II infusion in mice, we found that an affinity matured nanobody antagonist has comparable antihypertensive activity to the angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) losartan. The unique pharmacology and restricted biodistribution of nanobody antagonists may provide a path for treating hypertensive disorders when small-molecule drugs targeting the AT1R are contraindicated, for example, in pregnancy.

Different zeolites supported Pt catalysts with micro-mesoporous structure were prepared by organic base tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) treatment and their catalytic oxidation activity for various volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were evaluated. The results reveal that the synergistic effect between Pt nanoparticles and surface acid sites plays an important role in VOCs low-temperature removal. The small size and high dispersion of Pt nanoparticles on the surface of the zeolites would promote the catalytic oxidation of aromatics and alkanes over the Pt/zeolite catalysts, while strong acidity and abundant acid sites of catalysts are in favour of the oxidation of the VOCs containing N and O heteroatoms. In addition, it was found that Pt/ZSM-5 catalyst exhibits the highest oxidation activity for various VOCs low-temperature removal amongst all the catalysts due to the balance of both Pt dispersion and abundant acid sites in the catalyst. This comprehensive consideration should be very helpful when designing and preparing novel catalysts for the low-temperature removal of VOCs.

The evaluation of germplasm resources is the prerequisite for the development, utilization, and conservation of Chinese medicinal resources. The selection of excellent germplasm is the key to the breeding and orderly production of Pinellia ternata. In this study, 21 germplasm materials of P. ternata from major production areas in China were collected and analyzed for population diversity after phenotypic preliminary screening. The results have revealed that the P. ternata population has abundant phenotypic variation, and the phenotypic changes could be divided into five phenotypes in terms of organ trait variation. Further analysis of variation in 20 quantitative traits of the population revealed that the coefficient of variation for adenosine content(339.05%) was the largest, while the coefficient of variation for the underground plant height(16.35%) was the smallest. Correlation analysis showed that there was a strong correlation among various traits, with 52 pairs of traits showing highly significant correlation(P<0.01) and 19 pairs of traits showing a significant correlation(P<0.05). The 21 germplasms in the test could be classified into three major clusters by cluster analysis, with Cluster Ⅱ having the highest number and content of nucleosides, making it suitable for the selection and breeding of P. ternata varieties with high content of nucleosides. The yield in Cluster Ⅲ was higher than that in other groups, making it suitable for the selection and breeding of P. ternata varieties with a high yield. All trait indicators could be simplified into five principal component factors through principal component analysis, and the cumulative contribution rate was up to 86.04%. Further, comprehensive analysis using membership function and stepwise regression analysis identified nine traits, such as plant height, main leaf length, and underground plant height as characteristic indicators for the comprehensive evaluation of germplasm resources of P. ternata. BX007, BX008, and BX005 were identified as germplasms with both high yield and high uridine content, with BX007 having the highest uridine content of 479.51 µg·g~(-1). It belonged to the germplasm of P. ternata with double bulbils and could be cultivated as a potential good variety. Based on the phenotypic classification of P. ternata, systematic resource evaluation was carried out in this study, which could lay a foundation for the excavation of genetic resources and the breeding of new varieties of P. ternata.

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are of considerable interest due to their importance in a wide range of physiological functions and in a large number of Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs as therapeutic entities. With continued study of their function and mechanism of action, there is a greater understanding of how effector molecules interact with a receptor to initiate downstream effector signaling. This review aims to explore the signaling pathways, dynamic structures, and physiological relevance in the cardiovascular system of the three most important GPCR signaling effectors: heterotrimeric G proteins, GPCR kinases (GRKs), and ß-arrestins. We will first summarize their prominent roles in GPCR pharmacology before transitioning into less well-explored areas. As new technologies are developed and applied to studying GPCR structure and their downstream effectors, there is increasing appreciation for the elegance of the regulatory mechanisms that mediate intracellular signaling and function.

BACKGROUND: Lack of physical activity and excessive sitting time contributed to ectopic fat accumulation, especially in the liver. Previous studies have illustrated the harm of sedentary behaviour and the benefits of physical activity on fatty liver disease. We aimed to explore the association between the behaviour patterns and the risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) using isotemporal substitution model to examine the effect of replacing one behaviour to another while keeping the total time and other behaviours fixed among Chinese middle-aged and elderly population. METHODS: This study included 161 147 participants aged ≥40 years old from the nationwide, population-based cohort of the REACTION study. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to measure self-reported time for sleeping, sitting, walking and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA). MAFLD was defined by evidence of fatty liver index (FLI) ≥ 60 in addition to one of the following three patterns, namely overweight/obesity, presence of diabetes, or evidence of metabolic dysregulation. Isotemporal substitution models using logistic regression models to evaluate the association of replacement of different behaviour patterns with each other and the risk of MAFLD. RESULTS: Substitution of 60 minutes per day of sleeping, walking or total MVPA for sitting was associated with a 2%-8% reduction of MAFLD risk in overall participants. In employed individuals, replacing sitting time with occupational MVPA or nonoccupational MVPA both could bring benefits to liver steatosis. Stratified analysis found that replacing 60 minutes of sitting time with an equivalent time of other behaviour pattern could reduce approximately 8% of the risk among MAFLD participants with metabolic abnormalities. Such a relationship might be explained by the important mediated role of metabolic elements, such as waist circumference, body mass index, triglycerides and homoeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance. Furthermore, replacing sitting with MVPA showed a stronger association among participants who got enough sleep (sleep duration ≥7 hours per day). CONCLUSION: Replacing sitting with other behaviour patterns could reduce the prevalence of MAFLD, and such substitution effect was much remarkably in individuals with abnormal metabolic status. Observably, obese individuals were more likely to benefit from appropriate changes in behaviour patterns. Moreover, the analysis of sleep duration stratification appealed that the adequacy of individual sleep duration also had a significant impact on the substitution effect. It is worth noting that adjusting the time allocation of behaviour patterns might have a beneficial impact on liver-metabolic health, and these findings might help us better recognize the importance of reasonable arrangement of behaviour patterns according to the individual's situation.

Cell mechanotransduction plays an important role in vascular regulation and disease development. Excessive accumulation of ROS, especially superoxide anion radicals (O2˙-), is closely related to cardiovascular diseases. Lately, NADPH oxidases, which are the major source of O2˙- production in vascular tissues, have been demonstrated to be involved in cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, in situ and real-time monitoring of superoxide anions (O2˙-) is essential for exploring the mechanisms of mechanotransduction associated with NADPH oxidase function in living cells. Here we report a rationally designed ultrasonication-assisted approach for growing Au nanoflower films on a flexible surface, which serves as the desired interface for cysteine and superoxide dismutase (SOD) anchoring to form a flexible and stretchable electrode (SOD/Cys/Au SE). The SOD/Cys/Au SE shows good stretchability, fast electron-transfer rates, and high selectivity to measure O2˙- released from cells during the stretching states. Our strategy provides a basis for developing more sophisticated stretchable biosensing tools to induce and monitor transient biochemical signals during cell mechanotransduction.

BACKGROUND: A decrease in hippocampal neurogenesis is considered an important cause of cognitive impairment, while changes in mossy fiber sprouting are closely related to development of spontaneous recurrent seizures in chronic temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Racemic l-3-n-butylphthalide (DL-NBP) can alleviate cognitive impairment in ischemic stroke and Alzheimer's disease by promoting neurogenesis. DL-NBP treatment can also improve cognitive function and reduce seizure incidence in chronic epileptic mice. However, the mechanisms of action of DL-NBP remain unclear. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of DL-NBP on mossy fiber sprouting, hippocampal neurogenesis, spontaneous epileptic seizures, and cognitive functioning in the chronic phase of TLE. METHODS: Nissl staining was used to evaluate hippocampal injury, while immunofluorescent staining was used to analyze hippocampal neurogenesis. The duration of spontaneous seizures was measured by electroencephalography. The Morris water maze was used to evaluate cognitive function. Timm staining was used to assess mossy fiber sprouting. RESULTS: TLE animals showed reduced proliferation of newborn neurons, cognitive dysfunction, and spontaneous seizures. Treatment with DL-NBP after TLE increased the proliferation and survival of newborn neurons in the dentate gyrus, reversed the neural loss in the hippocampus, alleviated cognitive impairments, and decreased mossy fiber sprouting and long-term spontaneous seizure activity. CONCLUSIONS: We provided pathophysiological and morphological evidence that DL-NBP might be a useful therapeutic for the treatment of TLE.

OBJECTIVE: Hypophosphatemia might cause respiratory and heart failure and even death. We aimed to evaluate risk factors for hypophosphatemia and refeeding-related hypophosphatemia in patients requiring parental nutrition (PN). METHODS: This was a single-center, retrospective study. Clinical parameters were obtained from medical records. Serum phosphate (inorganic phosphorus) was measured by photometric analysis. Hypophosphatemia was confirmed when serum phosphate level was less than 0.8 mmol/L (≈2.5 mg/dl). Refeeding related hypophosphatemia was confirmed if serum phosphate level had a decrease of 0.16 mmol/L or more from baseline and if the final assessment was below 0.65 mmol/L. RESULTS: A total number of 655 (426 men and 229 women, aged 62.8 ± 14.8 years) hospitalized patients requiring PN were included in the study, and 60.6% of them were patients with cancer. The average body mass index (BMI) was 21.1 ± 4.1 kg/m2 and the median of serum phosphate was 0.9 mmol/L (quartile range: 0.68 mmol/L, 1.11 mmol/L). The prevalence of hypophosphatemia was 37.6% (246/655). Older age (≥ 65 years vs. < 65 years), lower serum level of pre-albumin (< 160 mg/L vs. ≥ 160 mg/L), calcium (< 2.11 mmol/L vs. ≥ 2.11 mmol/L), and magnesium (< 0.75 mmol/L vs. ≥ 0.75 mmol/L) were associated with high risk of hypophosphatemia by multivariate logistic regression (OR ranged from 1.43 to 3.06, all p < 0.05). Refeeding related hypophosphatemia was 9.5% (16/168). Serum level of calcium at baseline was significantly lower in participants with refeeding related hypophosphatemia than those without it. Total calorie and nitrogen delivered during first week of PN period showed no obvious difference between patients with and without refeeding related hypophosphatemia. CONCLUSIONS: Hypophosphatemia is common (37.6%) in hospitalized patients requiring PN. Monitoring of serum level of phosphorus is necessary to facilitate early treatment of hypophosphatemia.

Genetic and immune factors play an important role in tuberculosis. Under different ethnicities and genetic backgrounds, different immune and inflammation-related gene polymorphisms may confer different susceptibility to tuberculosis. This study investigated the relationship between immune and inflammation-related gene polymorphism and susceptibility to tuberculosis in Xinjiang Uyghur population, China. In this case-control study, we enrolled 507 pulmonary tuberculosis patients and 454 healthy controls from Southern Xinjiang. single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping was performed. The 12 SNPs of nine immune and inflammation-related genes (including TNF rs361525, IL6 rs2066992 and rs1524107, IL17A rs3748067, IL17F rs763780, VDR rs731236, rs2228570 and rs1544410, IFNGR1 rs1327474, P2RX7 rs3751143, CTAGE1 rs4331426 and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) rs4986790) and their relationship with tuberculosis were evaluated. The T allele and TT genotype of IL-6 rs2066992 and rs1524107 increased the risk of active tuberculosis. The C allele of IFNGR1 rs1327474 was related to the reduced risk of tuberculosis in the Xinjiang Uyghur population. The G allele and AG/GG genotypes of TLR4 rs4986790 were associated with an increased risk of tuberculosis (p < .05). Furthermore, haplotype analysis found that the haplotype TT of interleukin (IL)-6 was a risk factor, whereas the CG type was a protective factor for active tuberculosis in the Xinjiang Uyghur population. There were three immune and inflammation-related genes (IL-6, IFNGR1 and TLR4) and a total of four SNPs (rs2066992, rs1524107, rs1327474 and rs4986790) related to the susceptibility of the Uyghur population to tuberculosis. Our findings may provide evidence for further understanding the mechanism of tuberculosis susceptibility in the Xinjiang Uyghur population.

Moiré superlattices in van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures form by stacking atomically thin layers on top of one another with a twist angle or lattice mismatch. The resulting moiré potential leads to a strong modification of the band structure, which can give rise to exotic quantum phenomena ranging from correlated insulators and superconductors to moiré excitons and Wigner crystals. Here, we demonstrate the dynamic tuning of moiré potential in a WSe2/WS2 heterostructure at cryogenic temperature. We utilize the optical fiber tip of a cryogenic scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM) to locally deform the heterostructure and measure its near-field optical response simultaneously. The deformation of the heterostructure increases the moiré potential, which leads to a red shift of the moiré exciton resonances. We observe the interlayer exciton resonance shifts up to 20 meV, while the intralayer exciton resonances shift up to 17 meV.
