RESUMEN

The anti-icing and drag-reduction properties of diverse microstructured surfaces have undergone extensive study over the past decade. Nonetheless, tough environments enforce stringent demands on the composite characteristics of superhydrophobic surfaces (SHS). In this study, fresh composite structures were fabricated on a metal substrate by nanosecond laser machining technology, drawing inspiration from the hardy plant Iridaceae. The prepared sample surface mainly consists of a periodic microrhombus array and irregular nanosheets. To comprehensively investigate the effect of its special structure on surface properties, three surfaces with different sizes of rhombic structures were used for comparative analysis, and the results show that the SH-S2 sample is optimal. This can significantly delay the freezing time by an impressive 1404 s at -10 °C while revealing the sample surface anti-icing strategy. In addition, the rheological experiments determined over 300 µm of slip length for the SH-S2 sample, and the drag reduction rate of the surface reaches nearly 40%, which is well aligned with the results of the delayed icing experiments. Finally, the mechanical durability of the SH-S2 surface was investigated through scratch damage, sandpaper abrasion, reparability trials, and icing and melting cycle tests. This research presents a new approach and methodology for the application of SHS on polar ship surfaces.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: The relationship between spirituality and depressive symptoms among the Chinese elderly is not well known. The current study explores this relationship using longitudinal data and trajectory modeling of depressive symptoms. METHODS: A longitudinal study design was used to measure depressive symptoms repeatedly from 2012 to 2021 using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Group-based trajectory modeling analysis was conducted to determine the trajectories of depressive symptoms, and multiple logistic regression was used to explore the association between spirituality and depressive symptom trajectories. RESULTS: A total of 2333 participants completed at least two GDS measures, and these were included in the Group-based trajectory modeling analysis. An optimal model of three trajectories was derived: no depressive symptoms group (75.2%), new-onset depressive symptoms group (14.4%), and persistent depressive symptoms group (10.4%). Logistic regression modeling revealed that higher spirituality was associated with a lower risk of both new-onset depressive symptoms (OR = 0.68, 95% CI = 0.49-0.93) and persistent depressive symptoms (OR = 0.32, 95% CI = 0.23-0.45). CONCLUSIONS: Spirituality predicts a lower risk of new-onset depressive symptoms and persistent symptoms among older adults in mainland China.

RESUMEN

Necroptosis is one of the modes of cell death, and its occurrence and development are associated with the development of numerous diseases. To prevent the progression of necroptosis, it is crucial to inhibit the phosphorylation of three proteins: receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIP1), RIP3, and mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein (MLKL). Through virtual and experimental screening approaches, we have identified 8 small molecular inhibitors with potent antinecroptotic activity and binding affinity to RIP1. Among these compounds, SY-1 demonstrated the most remarkable antinecroptotic activity (EC50 = 105.6 ± 9.6 nM) and binding affinity (RIP1 Kd = 49 nM). It effectively blocked necroptosis and impeded the formation of necrosomes by inhibiting the phosphorylations of the RIP1/RIP3/MLKL pathway triggered by TSZ (TNFα, Smac mimetic and Z-VAD-fmk). Furthermore, SY-1 exhibited a protective effect against tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-induced hypothermia in mice and significantly improved the survival rate (100 %, 30 mg/kg) of mice with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in a dose-dependent manner. Pharmacokinetic parameters of SY-1 were also collected in vitro and in vivo. These results strongly suggest that SY-1 and its derivatives warrant further investigation for their potential therapeutic applications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Positive self-perception of aging (SPA) is a well-known predictor of longevity, while how and to what extent SPA is linked with all-cause mortality among older adults is still unclear. This study aims to elucidate the relationship between positive SPA and all-cause mortality and its potential mediators among Chinese older adults. METHODS: This is a 20-year dynamic cohort study conducted among 22,957 older adults aged ≥ 65 years old from a nationally representative sample. Positive SPA was measured using a validated 7-item scale. Potential mediators including health behaviors and social participation were collected using a self-reported questionnaire. Cox proportional hazards regression models were conducted to examine the association between positive SPA and all-cause mortality. A mediation analysis was conducted to determine whether health behaviors and social participation mediated the association between SPA and all-cause mortality. RESULTS: Throughout follow-up (median [interquartile range], 46 [21-84] months), all-cause mortality was 87.4%. Compared with older adults with the lowest quartile positive SPA, hazard ratio(HR) of all-cause mortality among older adults with the second, third, and fourth quartile of positive SPA was 0.96(95%CI:0.93-1.00), 0.93(95%CI:0.90-0.99), and 0.92(95%CI:0.87-0.96) respectively after controlling for all potential mediators and covariates. The mediation analysis showed that regular daily vegetable intake, physical activity, and high social participation explained 41.1-48.5% of the variance in the association between positive SPA and all-cause mortality. CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort study, we found that high positive SPA was associated with decreased all-cause mortality directly, and indirectly through healthy lifestyle behaviors and social participation. These findings suggest that interventions targeted at promoting or maintaining positive SPA may contribute to healthy ageing among older adults in China.

RESUMEN

The polymeric immunoglobulin receptor (pIgR) is essential for controlling polymeric immunoglobulin to defend species from invading pathogens. However, the modulation pathway of pIgR expression in teleosts remains unclear. In this paper, to define that the cytokine TNF-α impacted the expression of pIgR, the recombinant proteins of TNF-α of grass carp were first prepared after approving that natural pIgR was expressed in liver cells of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) (L8824). L8824 cells were incubated with variable amounts of recombinant TNF-α at various times, the results revealed that pIgR expressions showed a significant dose-dependent elevation at the gene and proteins, and a similar alteration trend was detected for the pIgR protein (secretory component: SC) secreted by L8824 cells into the culture supernatant. Moreover, nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) inhibitors PDTC was used to study whether TNF-α regulated pIgR expressions through the NF-κB signaling pathways. L8824 cells were treated with TNF-α, inhibitor PDTC, and TNF-α + PDTC mixtures, respectively, and the levels of pIgR genes and pIgR protein in cells and SC in the culture supernatant decreased in cells treated with PDTC contrasted to the control, and subjected to reduced expression of PDTC + TNF-α reduced expression contrasted to that treated just with TNF-α, demonstrating that suppression of NF-κB obstructed the ability of TNF-α to elevate pIgR gene and pIgR protein in cells and SC in the culture supernatant. These outcomes indicated that TNF-α raised pIgR gene expression, pIgR protein, and SC creation, and this pIgR expression induced by TNF-α was modulated by complicated pathways that included NF-κB signaling mechanism, confirming TNF-α as a pIgR expression modulator and enhancing a deeper insight of the regulatory pathway for pIgR expression in teleosts.

RESUMEN

Receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1)-mediated necroptosis is believed to have a significant role in contributing to inflammatory diseases. Inhibiting RIPK1 has shown promise in effectively alleviating the inflammation process. In our current study, we employed scaffold hopping to develop a series of novel benzoxazepinone derivatives. Among these derivatives, compound o1 displayed the most potent antinecroptosis activity (EC50=16.17±1.878nM) in cellular assays and exhibited the strongest binding affinity to the target site. Molecular docking analyses further elucidated the mechanism of action of o1, revealing its ability to fully occupy the protein pocket and form hydrogen bonds with the amino acid residue Asp156. Our findings highlight that o1 specifically inhibits necroptosis, rather than apoptosis, by impeding the RIPK1/Receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3)/mixed-lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL) pathway's phosphorylation, triggered by TNFα, Smac mimetic, and z-VAD (TSZ). Additionally, o1 demonstrated dose-dependent improvements in the survival rate of mice with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), surpassing the protective effect observed with GSK'772.

RESUMEN

In recent years, research on the antioxidant activity of natural antioxidants has become more and more popular. Polyphenols are a large number of natural antioxidants in plants. This paper selected three common polyphenols to study their antioxidant activity based on quantum chemistry theory. This experiment hopes to provide a theoretical basis for the further development of polyphenol health food with strong antioxidant activity. Three polyphenols resveratrol, liquiritigenin, and isoliquiritigenin were optimized at the level of B3lyp/6-311G (d, p), and the single point energy was calculated with B3lyp/6-311 + + G (2d, 2p). The phenol hydroxyl bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE), ionization potential (IP), proton dissociation enthalpy (PDE), proton affinity (PA), and electron transfer enthalpy (ETE) were calculated in different phase states study the antioxidant mechanism. Draw the frontier molecular orbital and conduct dynamic simulation analysis scavenging · OH and · OOH to explore the most possible active sites in different phenolic hydroxyl sites. The bond length, dihedral angle, BDE, IP, PDE, PA and ETE were compared to speculate the antioxidant activity: Resveratrol > isoliquiritigenin > liquiritigenin. By analyzing the frontier molecular orbital and dynamic simulation results, it is speculated that the phenolic hydroxyl groups at C4', C4', and C4 are the most likely active sites of resveratrol, liquiritigenin, and isoliquiritigenin, respectively. In different phase states, the three compounds showed the same antioxidant activity, and the phenolic hydroxyl activities of the three compounds were different at different sites.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Associations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and common psychiatric disorders among older Chinese individuals have not been well reported. The objectives of this study are to examine the prevalence of ACEs and the associations of ACEs with common psychiatric disorders among older adults in China. METHODS: The study used data from the China Mental Health Survey (CMHS), a nationally representative epidemiological survey, which used computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI), logistic regression models were used to examine community-based adult psychiatric disorders and associated risk factors. Finally, 2,317 individuals aged 60 years or over were included in the CMHS. The national prevalence of ACEs in older adults were estimated and logistic regression were used to analyse the association between ACEs and past-year psychiatric disorders. RESULTS: Prevalence of ACEs among older adults in China was 18.1%. The three most common types of ACEs were neglect (11.6%), domestic violence (9.2%), and parental loss (9.1%). This study proved the association between ACEs and common past-year psychiatric disorders in older adults. ACEs increased the risk of past-year psychiatric disorders in older adults. After adjustment for age, sex, marital status, employment status, education, rural or urban residence, region, and physical diseases, the association between ACEs and past-year psychiatric disorders were still significant. CONCLUSIONS: ACEs are linked to an increased risk for past-year psychiatric disorders in older adults. ACEs may have long-term effects on older adults' mental well-being. Preventing ACEs may help reduce possible adverse health outcomes in later life.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This survey aimed to explore the relationships between burnout, moral injury, and suicidal/self-harm ideation among Chinese health professionals to provide a reference for protecting their mental health. METHOD: Health professionals were surveyed online using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey for Medical Personnel, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and the Moral Injury Symptoms Scale-Health Professional. RESULTS: In the analysis, 6146 eligible respondents were included in the study. The average participant age was 34.9 ± 8.5 years, and suicidal/self-harm ideation was detected in 2338 participants (38.0%). The prevalence of suicidal/self-harm ideation among those with severe burnout in the dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and decreased personal accomplishment was significantly higher than those with mild burnout. The prevalence of suicidal/self-harm ideation among those with significant moral injury symptoms was higher than those without moral injury. Unconditional logistic regression analysis showed that those with moderate or severe emotional exhaustion, moderate or severe reduced sense of professional accomplishment and moderate or severe depersonalisation had increased risks of suicidal/self-harm ideation. CONCLUSIONS: Structural equation modelling demonstrated that burnout significantly mediated the relationship between moral injury and suicidal/self-harm ideation. The proportion of mediation (PM) by burnout was 43.0%. Burnout and moral injury were potential predictors of suicidal/self-harm ideation among health professionals. Both moral injury and burnout had positive and direct effects on suicidal/self-harm ideation, and burnout was a mediator in this relationship among Chinese health professionals. Therefore, to alleviate the moral injury and subsequent burnout of healthcare workers and enhance their mental qualities, active interventions should be developed in the future.

RESUMEN

Matrine is a quinoline alkaloid extracted and separated from the dried root, fruit, and other parts of the plant Sophora flavescens using an organic solvent. Matrine exhibits a variety of biological activities and is widely used in pharmacy, agronomy, and other fields. Due to its low bioavailability, poor chemical stability, and toxicity to the central nervous system, a large number of researchers have searched for matrine derivatives with higher biological activity and safety by modifying its structure. In this review article, the research progress of matrine derivatives obtained using two methods (extraction from Sophora flavescens and structural modifications) from 2018 to 2022 in terms of pharmacological activity, mechanism of action, and structure-activity relationship are presented. The modification of matrine over the past five years has been mainly on the D-ring. Many new matrine alkaloids have been extracted from natural products, some of which have good pharmacological activity, which broadens the strategy for matrine structural modification in the future.

RESUMEN

In this study, diploid, triploid, and tetraploid Crassostrea gigas samples were subjected to gas chromatography and ion mobility (GC-IMS) to identify and analyze volatile compounds and flavor fingerprints under conditions of high-temperature incubation. The GC-IMS technology identified a total of 54 volatile components in C. gigas. The contents of 1-octen-3-ol, butyl pentanoate, p-methyl anisole, and 2-methyl-2-hepten-6-one in male oysters were significantly higher than in females, while the contents of phenylacetaldehyde, benzaldehyde, 2-ethyl-3-methylpyrazine, 2-ethylfuran, and 2,4-hexadienal in female oysters were significantly higher than in males. The contents of non-3-en-2-one-M and 1-pentanol in diploids were significantly higher than in triploids and tetraploids, while the content of 2,4-hexadienal in tetraploids was significantly higher than in diploids and tetraploids. The contents of ethyl acetate, ethyl-2-butenoate, and butanal in tetraploids were significantly higher than those in diploids and triploids. The results of a principal components analysis showed that different samples were relatively independently clustered, allowing the ability to distinguish different oyster samples. The chemical fingerprints of volatile compounds of C. gigas with different ploidy and gender under high-temperature incubation were established, and the volatile substance contours of C. gigas were visualized. The results provide a reference for distinguishing the ploidy and gender of C. gigas under conditions of high-temperature incubation.

RESUMEN

Moral injury has attracted attention widely in various occupations, particularly health professionals. Personality traits involve the professional values in clinical decision-making associated with mental outcomes. The current study examines the relationship between "light personality" style and moral injury. Scores on three subscales of the Light Triad Scale were negatively correlated with the Moral Injury Symptoms Scale-Health Professional. Health professionals more likely to have light personality styles may be less likely to suffer from moral injury under high-stake situations. The findings provide evidence to better understand the inner core of the moral injury, suggesting a potential pathway to improve the moral well-being of health professionals by strengthening key elements of light personality.

RESUMEN

Myocardial infarction (MI) has the characteristics of high mortality rate, strong suddenness and invisibility. There are problems such as the delayed diagnosis, misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis in clinical practice. Electrocardiogram (ECG) examination is the simplest and fastest way to diagnose MI. The research on MI intelligent auxiliary diagnosis based on ECG is of great significance. On the basis of the pathophysiological mechanism of MI and characteristic changes in ECG, feature point extraction and morphology recognition of ECG, along with intelligent auxiliary diagnosis method of MI based on machine learning and deep learning are all summarized. The models, datasets, the number of ECG, the number of leads, input modes, evaluation methods and effects of different methods are compared. Finally, future research directions and development trends are pointed out, including data enhancement of MI, feature points and dynamic features extraction of ECG, the generalization and clinical interpretability of models, which are expected to provide references for researchers in related fields of MI intelligent auxiliary diagnosis.

RESUMEN

A film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR), based on a polymer air cavity, is presented. The polymer reflective layer on the polymer air cavity can serve both as the reflective layer and the function layer for inducing the high-order mode resonance. With the aluminum nitride as the piezoelectric layer, the resonance frequency of the FBAR can reach 6.360 GHz, based on the finite element method. The product of the corresponding frequency and the quality factor, f × Q is more than 2 × 1013. This design model provides a good solution for the high-frequency filters and high-sensitivity sensor designs.

RESUMEN

A high-frequency surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator, based on sandwiched interdigital transducer (IDT), is presented. The resonator has the structure of diamond/AlN/IDT/AlN/diamond, with Si as the substrate. The results show that its phase velocity and electromechanical coupling coefficient are both significantly improved, compared with that of the traditional interdigital transduce-free surface structure. The M2 mode of the sandwiched structure can excite an operation frequency up to 6.15 GHz, with an electromechanical coupling coefficient of 5.53%, phase velocity of 12,470 m/s, and temperature coefficient of frequency of -6.3 ppm/°C. This structure provides a new ideal for the design of high-performance and high-frequency SAW devices.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Reducing stigma is a perennial target of mental health advocates, but effectively addressing stigma relies on the ability to correctly understand and accurately measure culture-specific and location-specific components of stigma and discrimination. METHODS: We developed two culture-sensitive measures that assess the core components of stigma. The 40-item Interpersonal Distance Scale (IDS) asks respondents about their willingness to establish four different types of relationships with individuals with 10 target conditions, including five mental health-related conditions and five comparison conditions. The 40-item Occupational Restrictiveness Scale (ORS) asks respondents how suitable it is for individuals with the 10 conditions to assume four different types of occupations. The scales - which take 15 min to complete - were administered as part of a 2013 survey in Ningxia Province, China to a representative sample of 2425 adult community members. RESULTS: IDS and ORS differentiated the level of stigma between the 10 conditions. Of the total, 81% of respondents were unwilling to have interpersonal relationships with individuals with mental health-related conditions and 91% considered them unsuitable for various occupations. Substantial differences in attitudes about the five mental health-related conditions suggest that there is no community consensus about what constitutes a 'mental illness'. CONCLUSIONS: Selection of comparison conditions, types of social relationships, and types of occupations considered by the IDS and ORS make it possible to develop culture-sensitive and cohort-specific measures of interpersonal distance and occupational restrictiveness that can be used to compare the level and type of stigma associated with different conditions and to monitor changes in stigma over time.

RESUMEN

The polymeric immunoglobulin receptor (pIgR) plays an important role in mediating the transcytosis of polymeric immunoglobulins (pIgs) to protect organisms against pathogen invasion. Here, a polyclonal antibody against grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) recombinant pIgR was developed by immunizing New Zealand white rabbit, and the responses of pIgR, IgM and IgZ were analyzed after bath immunization and intraperitoneal administration with Flavobacterium columnare. The results showed that pIgR transcription level was similar to IgM and IgZ, but pIgR rose much faster and peaked earlier than IgM and IgZ; the pIgR mRNA levels were higher in the skin and spleen for both immunized groups, while IgM and IgZ mRNA expression were higher in skin, gills, and intestines in bath immersion group, or spleen and head kidney in intraperitoneal immunization group. ELISA revealed that the IgM, IgZ and pIgR protein levels were up-regulated in skin mucus, gill mucus, gut mucus and bile, reaching a higher peak level earlier in skin mucus and gill mucus in bath immersion group, but a higher peak level in bile in injection group. Moreover, secretory component molecules were detected in grass carp's skin, gill and intestine mucus and bile, but not in serum, which molecular mass was near the theoretical mass obtained from the sequence of grass carp pIgR. These results demonstrated that bath and intraperitoneal immunization up-regulated pIgR and secretory Ig expression in secretions, which provided more insights into the role of pIgR in immunity and offer insight into ways of protecting teleost against pathogen invasion.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Although most studies have shown the psychological strains associated with increased risk of suicidal behaviors, how psychological strains are linked to suicidal behaviors is still unclear. The current study examines the possible mediation effect of psychological distress and hopelessness on the relationship between psychological strains and suicidal behaviors among Chinese medical college students. A cross-sectional survey was conducted from November 2017 to March 2018 involving 5703 medical college students, and the 12-month prevalence of suicidal behaviors was 12.89%. Psychological strains significantly associated with suicidal behaviors, and psychological distress and hopelessness partially explained this relationship. A positive psychological intervention program is needed to buffer the psychological strains, which is a crucial predictor for suicidal behaviors among Chinese medical college students.

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: This study examined the prevalence and predictors of moral injury (MI) symptoms in 181 health care professionals (HPs; 71% physicians) recruited from Duke University Health Systems in Durham, NC. Participants completed an online questionnaire between November 13, 2019, and March 12, 2020. Sociodemographic, clinical, religious, depression/anxiety, and clinician burnout were examined as predictors of MI symptoms, assessed by the Moral Injury Symptoms Scale-Health Professional, in bivariate and stepwise multivariate analyses. The prevalence of MI symptoms causing at least moderate functional impairment was 23.9%. Younger age, shorter time in practice, committing medical errors, greater depressive or anxiety symptoms, greater clinician burnout, no religious affiliation, and lower religiosity correlated with MI symptoms in bivariate analyses. Independent predictors in multivariate analyses were the commission of medical errors in the past month, lower religiosity, and, especially, severity of clinician burnout. Functionally limiting MI symptoms are present in a significant proportion of HPs and are associated with medical errors and clinician burnout.

RESUMEN

The cathode ray tube (CRT) is a common and important tool that has been in use for decades, with which behavioral and visual neuroscientists deliver specific visual images generated by computers. Considering the operating principle of the CRT, the image it presents can flick at a constant rate, which will introduce distractions to the visual experiments on subjects with higher temporal resolutions. While this entrainment has been proved common in recordings of the primary visual cortex of mammals, it is uncertain whether it also exists in the intermediate to deep layers of pigeon's optic tectum, which is relevant to the spatial attention. Here, we present continuous visual stimuli with different refresh rates and luminances couples shown on a CRT to pigeons.
