In this experiment, we investigated the effects of adding chlorogenic acid (CGA) to the diet on growth performance, immune function, inflammation response, antioxidant capacity and its related mechanisms of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). A total of 600 fish were selected and randomly divided into five treatment groups and fed with CGA containing 0 mg/kg (CK), 100 mg/kg (L100), 200 mg/kg (L200), 400 mg/kg (L400) and 800 mg/kg (L800) for 56 days. The results of the experiment were as follows: addition of CGA significantly increased the WGR, SGR, FER, and PER of common carp (P < 0.05). The addition of 400-800 mg/kg of CGA significantly increased the serum levels of LZM, AKP activity, C3 and C4 concentration, and increased immune function of common carp (P < 0.05). Regarding antioxidant enzyme activities, adding CGA significantly increased SOD, CAT, and GsH-Px activities, while decreasing MDA content (P < 0.05). Compared with the CK group, the mRNA expression levels of NF-κB, TNF-α, and IL-1ß were decreased. The IL-10 and TGF-ß were increased in the liver and intestines of the CGA supplemented group. Meanwhile, the addition of CGA also significantly up-regulated the mRNA expression levels of Nrf2, HO-1, SOD, CAT, and GPX (P < 0.05). CGA also positively contributed to the development of the carp intestinal tract, as demonstrated by decreased serum levels of DAO, D-LA, and ET-1. And the mucosal fold height was increased significantly with increasing levels of CGA. In conclusion, the addition of CGA in the feed can enhance the growth performance, immune function and antioxidant capacity of common carp, and improve the health of the intestine and liver. According to the results of this experiment, the optimal addition amount in common carp diets was 400 mg/kg.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) positively contributes to enhancing animal health, regulating inflammation and reducing stress by participating in the synthesis of cysteine, glutathione, and taurine in the body. The present study aims to investigate the effects of dietary different levels of NAC on the morphology, function and physiological state of hepatopancreas in juvenile common carp (Cyprinus carpio). 450 common carps were randomly divided into 5 groups: N1 (basal diet), N2 (1.5 g/kg NAC diet), N3 (3.0 g/kg NAC diet), N4 (4.5 g/kg NAC diet) and N5 (6.0 g/kg NAC diet), and fed for 8 weeks. The results indicated that dietary 3.0-6.0 g/kg NAC reduced hepatopancreas lipid vacuoles and nuclear translocation, and inhibited apoptosis in common carp. Simultaneously, the activities of hepatopancreas alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase progressively increased with rising dietary NAC levels. Dietary NAC enhanced the non-specific immune function of common carp, and exerted anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway. Additionally, dietary 3.0-6.0 g/kg NAC significantly improved the antioxidant capacity of common carp, which was associated with enhanced glutathione metabolism, clearance of ROS and the activation of Nrf2 signaling pathway. In summary, NAC has the potential to alleviate inflammation, mitigate oxidative stress and inhibit apoptosis via the MAPK/NF-κB/Nrf2 signaling pathway, thereby improving hepatopancreas function and health of common carp. The current findings provide a theoretical basis for promoting the application of NAC in aquaculture and ecological cultivation of aquatic animals.

Investigated mitigating effects of sodium butyrate (SB) on the inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and growth inhibition of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) (2.94 ± 0.2 g) are caused by glycinin. Six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were prepared, in which the basal diet was the control diet and the Gly group diet contained 80 g/kg glycinin, while the remaining 4 diets were supplemented with 0.75, 1.50, 2.25, and 3.00 g/kg SB, respectively. The feeding trial lasted for 8 weeks, and the results indicated that supplementing the diet with 1.50-2.25 g/kg of SB significantly improved feed efficiency and alleviated the growth inhibition induced by glycinin. Hepatopancreas and intestinal protease activities and the content of muscle crude protein were significantly decreased by dietary glycinin, but supplement 1.50-2.25 g/kg SB partially reversed this result. SB (1.50-2.25 g/kg) increased the activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in the hepatopancreas and reduced the activities of AST and ALT in the serum. Glycinin significantly reduced immune and antioxidant enzyme activities, whereas 1.50-2.25 g/kg SB reversed these adverse effects. Furthermore, compared with the Gly group, supplement 1.50-2.25 g/kg SB eminently up-regulated the TGF-ß and IL-10 mRNA, and down-regulated the IL-1ß, TNF-α, and NF-κB mRNA in hepatopancreas, mid-intestine (MI), and distal intestine (DI). Meanwhile, supplement 1.50-2.25 g/kg SB activated the Keap1-Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway and upregulate CAT, SOD, and HO-1 mRNA expression in hepatopancreas, MI, and DI. Summarily, glycinin induced inflammatory response, and oxidative stress of common carp ultimately decreased the digestive function and growth performance. SB partially mitigated these adverse effects by activating the Keap1-Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway and inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Transfusion services in China must establish a quality management system, and regular inspection of quality indicators is an important component of quality management. Although the positive role of information technology in reducing human errors has been widely reported, its role in improving transfusion quality indicators still requires further study. This study explores the role of information technology in improving the quality of transfusion practice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We developed an optimized blood transfusion management information system and then analysed the changes in four quality indicators before and after using the system to clarify the role of information technology in improving the quality of transfusion practice. RESULTS: After using the optimized system, the completeness rate for transfusion request forms increased from 81.5% to 99.3%; an unqualified doctor's signature was the most common incomplete content (0.45%). The appropriate transfusion rate increased from 87% to 99.4%, and red blood cell and frozen plasma utilization in most surgical departments decreased. Although the reporting rate for adverse transfusion reactions increased from 0.22% to 0.49%, these increases might be partly due to changes in transfusion regulations. The adequacy rate of transfusion medical records increased from 74.8% to 90.4%. Overall, the inadequacy of informed consent for transfusion, pre-transfusion laboratory tests and documentation of the transfusion process were reduced from 6.4%, 6.2% and 12.6% to 1.7%, 2.0% and 5.9%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Information technology can play an important role in improving the quality of transfusion practice, as part of a programme of medical education, regular audit and other measures.

This study was to evaluate the mitigative effects of vitamin C (VC) on growth inhibition and intestinal damage induced by glycinin in juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski. 270 healthy juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski (4.65 ± 0.04 g) were randomly divided into 3 treatments, and fed with control diet, 80 g/kg glycinin diet and 80 g/kg glycinin+200 mg/kg VC diet respectively for 8 weeks. The results showed that glycinin significantly decreased the weight gain rate, specific growth rate, protein efficiency rate, feed efficiency rate and feeding rate of fish compared with the control group (P < 0.05), while VC supplementation improved the growth performance and feed utilization efficiency, and reached a level similar to the control group. Similarly, VC significantly increased the crude protein content of muscle and whole-body, and hepatopancreas and intestinal protease activities of fish fed with glycinin diet (P < 0.05). The distal intestine of fish in glycinin group showed typical damage characteristics, including breakage and atrophy of intestinal mucosal fold, and increased intestinal mucosal permeability. However, fish fed the glycinin + VC diet showed an unimpaired normal intestinal morphology. Usefully, VC supplementation could also restore impaired immune function and antioxidant capacity. VC down-regulated the mRNA levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1ß, and up-regulated the mRNA levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10 and TGF-ß in the distal intestine of fish fed with glycinin. Furthermore, glycinin exposure could reduce the mRNA levels of HO-1, CAT and GPx by inhibiting the activation of Nrf2-Keap1 signaling pathway, while VC supplementation reversed this phenomenon and maintained the homeostasis of antioxidant defense system. Concluded, glycinin causes growth inhibition, digestive dysfunction and intestinal damage of Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski, while sufficient VC intake is beneficial for fish to resist the adverse effects of glycinin.

The present study evaluated the protective effect and the regulatory mechanism of taurine on growth inhibition and intestinal damage induced by glycinin in juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski. The control diets had no glycinin and taurine, the glycinin diets contained only 80 g/kg glycinin, and the glycinin + taurine diets contained 80 g/kg glycinin+10 g/kg taurine. Juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski (4.65 ± 0.03 g/tail) were respectively fed with these 3 diets for 8 weeks. The results showed that glycinin significantly decreased the final body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate, protein efficiency rate, feed efficiency rate and feeding rate of fish compared with the control group (P < 0.05). While taurine supplementation improved the growth performance and feed efficiency, but final body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate of the glycinin + taurine group were still significantly lower than the control group (P < 0.05). Compared with the glycinin group, taurine supplementation significantly increased whole-body and muscle crude protein content, and hepatopancreas and intestinal protease activities (P < 0.05). Distal intestinal villous dysplasia and mucosal damage, and increased intestinal mucosal permeability were observed in the glycinin group, while taurine supplementation alleviated these adverse effects. Usefully, taurine supplementation could also partially restore the impaired immune function and antioxidant capacity of fish fed glycinin diets. Compared with the glycinin group, taurine supplementation down-regulated pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1ß mRNA levels, and up-regulated anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10 and TGF-ß mRNA levels. Furthermore, taurine partially reversed the reduction of antioxidant genes Nrf2ãHO-1, CAT and GPx mRNA levels in distal intestine induced by glycinin. Concluded, 80 g/kg glycinin led to intestinal damage, digestive dysfunction and increased intestinal mucosal permeability in juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski, and these adverse effects were ultimately manifested in growth inhibition. But taurine supplementation could partially mitigate the negative effects induced by glycinin.

The heavy metal poisoning in humans and fish represents a significant global problem. Copper (Cu), as an essential micronutrient in human and animal metabolism, often accumulates excessively in aquatic environment. The microbial floc is rich in a variety of probiotics and bioactive compounds, which has been documented to have the functions of antioxidant and immunoenhancement. A 64-day experiment was conducted to investigate the protective effects and potential mechanisms of dietary supplementation of microbial floc and Cu exposure on inflammatory response, oxidative stress, intestinal apoptosis and barrier dysfunction in Rhynchocypris lagowski Dybowski. A total of four hundred fifty R. lagowski were fed five experimental diets containing graded levels of microbial floc from 0% to 16% (referred to as B0, B4, B8, B12 and B16, respectively) in the first 60 days, and 96 h of acute copper exposure test was carried out in the last four days. The results showed that microbial floc exerted significant alleviative effects by preventing alterations in the levels of bioaccumulation, caspase3, caspase8, caspase9, malondialdehyde and interleukin-6, improving the activities of lysozyme, complement C3, complement C4, immunoglobulin M, alkaline phosphatase, heat shock protein 70, heat shock protein 90 and glutathione peroxidase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, total antioxidant capacity. In addition, microbial floc assisted in regulating the expression of NF-κB/Nrf2 signaling molecule genes, including NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-8, IL-10, TGF-ß, Keap1, Nrf2, Maf, HO-1, CAT, CuZn-SOD, GCLC and GPX. Overall, our results suggest that dietary supplementation with of microbial floc can alleviate copper-induced inflammation, oxidative stress, intestinal apoptosis and barrier dysfunction in R. lagowski. A suitable supplementation level of approximately 12% microbial floc is recommended in the present study.

Copper (Cu) is an essential element in the metabolic process of humans and animals, but it can cause toxicity at high concentrations of exposure. Bioflocs has been proved to have antioxidant, immune-enhancing and anti-inflammatory properties. Here, the purpose of this study was to evaluate potential mechanisms and protective effects of bioflocs and Cu exposure on inflammatory response, oxidative stress and immune-related genes and protein expression in Rhynchocypris lagowski Dybowski. 360 healthy R. lagowski were irregularly distributed among 12 tanks (3 tanks per group, 30 fish per tank). The experiment was divided into two parts: the feeding experiment was carried out in the first eight weeks, followed by acute copper exposure for 96 h. Then we selected the stressed fish for experimental analysis. The results provided evidences that bioflocs protected the R. lagowski by inhibiting the accumulation of copper, the activity of immune enzymes and the expression of NF-κB signaling pathway related genes and proteins, and the activity of antioxidant enzymes and the expression of Nrf2 signaling pathway related genes. Overall, these findings suggest that bioflocs could regulate the activation of Nrf2 and protect acute copper exposure induced inflammatory response by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway in R. lagowski.

The present study was implemented to evaluate oxidative stress, immune response, Nrf2 and NF-κB signaling molecules related genes expression of Rhynchocypris lagowski living in biofloc technology (BFT) system and exposed to waterborne ammonia. According to the differences of C:N ratios, the experiment was divided into four groups: C:N 10.8:1 (control group), C:N 15:1, C:N 20: 1 and C:N 25:1. The results demonstrated that BFT can effectively regulate water quality and promote growth, and the C:N 20:1 group has the most significant effect (P < 0.05). Besides, significant increases in immune enzymes (lysozyme, complement C3, C4, immunoglobulin M and nitric oxide synthase) and anti-inflammatory factor (IL-2) activity of R. lagowski were emerged in the treatment C:N 20:1 after the 56-d growth experiment and the challenging trial (P < 0.05). Comparing the antioxidant status of R. lagowski in liver and gut before and after ammonia stress: superoxide dismutase, total antioxidant capacity and catalase activity in treatments C:N 20:1 were significant increased (P < 0.05), while the level of malondialdehyde was marked lower than that in control. Meanwhile, treatment C:N 20:1 considerably upregulated Nrf2 signaling molecules related genes and significantly down-regulated the expression of pro-inflammatory factor gene in NF-κB signaling pathway compared with the control (P < 0.05). These results indicated that BFT could enhance growth, antioxidant and immune response and regulate Nrf2 and NF-κB related genes expression in R. lagowski, with most excellent effects in fish given C:N 20:1 group.

BACKGROUND: Many epidemiological studies have suggested that insulin-like growth factor1 (IGF1) gene single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may be associated with cancer risk. Among several commonly studied polymorphisms in IGF1 gene, rs2195239 and rs2162679 attracted many attentions. So we perform a meta-analysis to determine potential associations between IGF1 rs2195239 and rs2162679 polymorphisms and cancer risk. METHODS: We retrieved relevant articles from the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases up to April 30, 2018. Ultimately, thirteen studies were included in the present meta-analysis, which involved 12,515 cases and 19,651 controls. The odd ratios (ORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled to estimate the strength of the associations. RESULTS: rs2195239 reduces the overall cancer risk in homozygote model, as well as reducing cancer risk in Asian populations in allele, homozygote, and recessive models. No significant relationship was found between rs2195239 and breast or pancreatic cancer risk. rs2162679 reduces the overall cancer risk in allele, homozygote, dominant, and recessive models, as well as reducing cancer risk in Asian populations in allele, homozygote, and recessive models. CONCLUSIONS: IGF1 rs2195239 and rs2162679 were associated with overall cancer risk based on present studies.

BACKGROUND: The rs2057482 polymorphism in the hypoxia inducible factor 1 subunit alpha (HIF1A) gene has been reported to be associated with a risk of several types of cancer, but this association has not yet been definitively confirmed. We performed this meta-analysis to determine whether rs2057482 is associated with overall cancer risk. METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched for the potential studies about the association between the rs2057482 and cancer risk. The data of genotype frequencies in cases with cancer and controls were extracted from the selected studies. Odds ratios (ORs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to determine the strength of the associations. RESULTS: The meta-analysis showed an association between the rs2057482 polymorphism and overall cancer risk. However, a stratified analysis of ethnicity did not show any significant association between rs2057482 and cancer risk in the Asian population. CONCLUSIONS: The rs2057482 polymorphism was associated with decreased overall cancer risk, based on the currently available studies. However, this conclusion needs verification by further well-designed epidemiology studies that examine different cancer types and more subjects.

PURPOSE: To determine the feasibility of pre-TACE IVIM imaging based on histogram analysis for predicting prognosis in the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-five patients prospectively underwent 1.5T MRI 1 week before TACE. Histogram metrics for IVIM parameters and ADCs maps between responders and non-responders with mRECIST assessment were compared. Kaplan-Meier, log-rank tests and Cox proportional hazard regression model were used to correlate variables with time to progression (TTP). RESULTS: Mean (p = 0.022), median (p = 0.043), and 25th percentile (p < 0.001) of perfusion fraction (PF), mean (p < 0.001), median (p < 0.001), 25th percentile (p < 0.001) and 75th percentile (p = 0.001) of ADC(0,500), mean (p = 0.005), median (p = 0.008) and 25th percentile (p = 0.039) of ADCtotal were higher, while skewness and kurtosis of PF (p = 0.001, p = 0.005, respectively), kurtosis of ADC(0,500) and ADCtotal (p = 0.005, p = 0.001, respectively) were lower in responders compared to non-responders. Multivariable analysis demonstrated that mRECIST was associated with TTP independently, and kurtosis of ADCtotal had the best predictive performance for disease progression. CONCLUSION: Pre-TACE kurtosis of ADCtotal is the best independent predictor for TTP. KEY POINTS: ⢠mRECIST was associated with TTP independently. ⢠Lower kurtosis and higher mean for ADCs tend to have good response. ⢠Pre-TACE kurtosis of ADC total is the best independent predictor for TTP.

BACKGROUND: The rs1520220 polymorphism in the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) gene has been reported to affect cancer susceptibly in several studies. However, the results of the relevant studies are inconsistent. We conduct a current meta-analysis to investigate the association between rs1520220 and cancer susceptibly. METHODS: Three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science) were searched for studies regarding the relationship between rs1520220 and cancer susceptibly. Odds ratios (ORs) and the related 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were employed to assess the strength of the associations. A stratified analysis was performed according to cancer type, ethnicity, and quality score, and when results were obtained from no fewer than two studies, these results were pooled. RESULTS: There was no positive association between rs1520220 and overall cancer risk. However, the analysis stratified by ethnicity revealed that rs1520220 significantly increased cancer susceptibility in Asian populations (allele model OR = 1.10, 95%Cl = 1.00-1.21, p = 0.040; homozygote model OR = 1.22, 95%Cl = 1.01-1.47, p = 0.040; dominant model OR = 1.19, 95%Cl = 1.01-1.39, p = 0.033). No significantly association was detected in Caucasian populations. The analysis stratified by cancer type suggested that rs1520220 was not associated with susceptibility to breast cancer. CONCLUSIONS: The results of our meta-analysis demonstrate that the role of IGF1 rs1520220 in cancer susceptibility varies by ethnicity and cancer type and that rs1520220 increases cancer susceptibility in Asian populations.

BACKGROUND: Gynaecologists should be aware of a rare obstructive Mullerian duct abnormality like Robert's uterus and perform further surgery when necessary. CASE SUMMARY: We report a 41-year-old mother of two children with Robert's uterus who was examined and treated by laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. Unlike the existing cases reported in the literature, this patient had a late onset of Robert's uterus symptoms. Due to right tubal ectopic pregnancy 3 years previously, the patient was treated with right salpingectomy and left tubal ligation but suffered aggravated left lower abdominal pain. She was examined and treated by laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, and is completely asymptomatic at 5-year follow-up. CONCLUSION: The typical obstructive Mullerian abnormality requires further surgery. Combined laparoscopy and hysteroscopy is an effective, minimally invasive technique with better recovery outcomes than traditional transabdominal procedures.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, of which non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type, and epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) are widely used for the treatment of NSCLC. EGFR-TKIs are known to develop a drug-resistant response after a certain number of cycles of dosing, and how to alleviate or even reverse EGFR-TKI resistance is an urgent problem at present. This review focuses on the role of ncRNAs in the resistance of NSCLC to EGFR-TKIs and the potential mechanisms underlying the development of NSCLC resistance to EGFR-TKIs. NcRNAs are involved in NSCLC resistance to EGFR-TKIs by mediating cellular drug efflux, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, apoptosis, autophagy, and EGFR mutation. ncRNAs play a crucial role in NSCLC resistance to EGFR-TKIs. Hopefully, the results will provide some guidance and help for the treatment and prognosis of NSCLC.

The self-assembly behavior of polypeptides is common in nature. Compared with monopeptides, polypeptide-based self-assembled nanomaterials with ordered structures have good thermal stability, mechanical stability, semi-conductivity, piezoelectric and optical properties. In recent years, the self-assembly of polypeptides has become a hot topic in the material science and biomedical field. By reasonably adjusting the molecular structure of the polypeptide and changing the external environment of the polypeptide, the polypeptide can be self-assembled or triggered by non-covalent bonding forces such as hydrogen bond, hydrophobicity, and π - π accumulation to form specific polypeptide assemblies such as nanoparticles, hydrogels, nanofibers, and micelles. Due to good biocompatibility and controllable degradability, polypeptide-based self-assembled nanomaterials have been widely used in the fields of nanotechnology, imaging technology, biosensor, and biomedical science. As a new drug delivery system, the polypeptide-drug conjugate has the advantages of low toxicity, high efficiency, enhanced drug stability, and avoiding side effects. This paper reviews the research progress of polypeptide-drug self-assembly nanostructure in recent years. Several structural models of polypeptide self-assembly technology and the mechanism of polypeptide self-assembly are introduced. Then the assembly form of polypeptide-drug self-assembly and the application of selfassembly compound therapy is described.

In this study, the alleviative effects of poly-ß-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) in bioflocs on oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were evaluated. Common carp were irregularity divided into 5 groups and fed five diets with 0 % (CK), 2 %, 4 %, 6 % and 8 % PHB. After 8-week feeding trial, LPS challenge was executed. Results showed that appropriate level of PHB enhanced serum immune function by reversing LPS-induced the decrease of C3, C4, IgM, AKP, ACP and LZM in serum, alleviated LPS-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction by decreasing the levels of 5-HT, D-LA, ET-1 and DAO in serum, increasing ZO-1, Occludin, Claudin-3 and Claudin-7 mRNA, improving intestinal morphology. Moreover, dietary PHB reversed LPS-induced the decrease of AST and ALT in hepatopancreas, while in serum exhibited the opposite trend. Suitable level of PHB reversed LPS-induced the reduction of GSH-PX, CAT, T-SOD and T-AOC in intestines and hepatopancreas, whereas MDA showed the opposite result. PHB alleviated LPS-induced the decrease of Nrf2, HO-1, CAT, SOD and GSH-PX mRNA, the increase of Keap1 mRNA. Appropriate level of PHB alleviated LPS-induced inflammation and apoptosis by up-regulating TGF-ß, IL-10 and Bcl-2 mRNA, down-regulating NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-6, Bax, Caspase-3, Caspase-8 and Caspase-9 mRNA. Furthermore, PHB inhibited activation of NLRP3 inflammasomes by reducing the levels of NLRP3, Caspase-1, ASC, IL-1ß and IL-18 mRNA and protein. In addition, the increases of dietary PHB linearly and quadratically affected LPS-induced adverse effects on common carp. Summary, this study suggested that appropriate level of dietary PHB alleviated LPS-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis and the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in common carp. And the appropriate level of PHB in common carp diets was 4 %.

Biofloc technology (BFT) is a new green culture technology that is intended not merely to eradicate nitrogenous residues but also enhance immunity and antioxidant activity in aquatic animals. A 56-day feeding trial and a 96 h ammonia challenge test were implemented to evaluate the effect of acute exposure to ammonia and BFT alterations on Rhynchocypris lagowski: digestive enzyme, inflammation response, oxidative stress and immunological parameters in zero water exchange tanks. According to the differences of C/N ratios, the experiment was divided into four groups: C/N 10.8:1 (control group), C/N 15:1, C/N 20: 1 and C/N 25:1. The results provided evidence that weight gain rate (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) were significantly elevated in C/N 20, while food conversion rate (FCR) was considerably decreased (P < 0.05) compared to the control. Significant increases in digestive enzyme amylase (AMS), lipase (LPS), protease (PRS) and cellulase (CES) activity; Immune enzyme complement C3, complement C4, Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS) and immunoglobulin M (IgM) activity; Serum biochemical lysozyme (LSZ), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and alkaline phosphatase (AKP) activity; Inflammation TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-2, IL-6 of R. lagowskis were found in the C/N 20 group after a 56-day feeding trial and a challenging trial (P < 0.05). Comparing the antioxidant capacity of R. lagowski in gills, brains and spleen of juveniles from the four experimental groups, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), catalase (CAT) activity and glutathion reductases (GR) activity of juveniles in the C/N 20 group were significant higher (P < 0.05), and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) was considerably lower than that in the control. Overall, these findings suggest that BFT not only can enhance R. lagowski growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, and strengthen antioxidant status but also upgrade immune response, improve the ability of resistance to ammonia stress.

BACKGROUND: The evidence for an association between the adiponectin gene (ADIPOQ) polymorphism rs182052 and cancer risk is inconsistent. We performed a meta-analysis to obtain more precise conclusions. METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched until July 11, 2019. And seven epidemiology studies were retrieved, including 4,929 cases and 5,625 controls. Odds ratios (ORs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to evaluate the strength of the association. RESULTS: The meta-analysis demonstrated that rs182052 significantly increased the risk of cancer under the allele, homozygote, dominant, and recessive models, based on an overall analysis (A vs. G: OR, 1.09, 95% CI, 1.03-1.15, P=0.003; AA vs. GG: OR, 1.20, 95% CI, 1.07-1.34, P=0.002; AA+GA vs. GG: OR, 1.12, 95% CI, 1.03-1.22, P=0.010; AA vs. GA+GG: OR, 1.12, 95% CI, 1.01-1.23, P=0.025). In the stratified analysis by ethnicity, rs182052 significantly increased the cancer risk in both Asian and Caucasian populations under one or several genetic models. In the stratified analysis by cancer type, rs182052 significantly increased the risk of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) under the five models. CONCLUSIONS: Meta-analysis based on present studies suggests that rs182052 can increase the cancer risk.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) gene three prime untranslated region (3'-UTR) polymorphisms have been reported to be associated with cancer risk. However, the conclusions of the relevant studies are not consistent. The present meta-analysis evaluates the relationship between IGF1 gene 3'-UTR polymorphisms (rs5742714, rs6214, and rs6220) and cancer risk. METHODS: Articles regarding the relationship between IGF1 rs5742714, rs6214, and rs6220 polymorphisms and cancer risk were selected by searching the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases before April 30, 2018. Altogether, we obtained 34 case-controlled studies from 20 articles, including 21,568 cases and 31,199 controls. The strength of associations was quantified using odds ratios (ORs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: In the present meta-analysis, no significant associations were detected between rs5742714, rs6214, and rs6220 and overall cancer risk. Thus, in stratified analyses, we found that rs6214 was associated with a significantly reduced risk of breast cancer under the allele, heterozygote, and dominant models (A vs G: OR, 0.94, 95% CI,0.88-1.00, Pâ=â.044; GA vs GG: OR, 0.88, 95% CI, 0.80-0.97, Pâ=â.012; AAâ+âGA vs GG: OR, 0.89, 95% CI, 0.81-0.97, Pâ=â.011), as well as pancreatic cancer under the recessive model (AA vs GAâ+âGG: OR, 0.68, 95% CI,0.53-0.87, Pâ=â.003). Also, rs6220 was associated with a significantly increased risk of breast cancer under the homozygote model (GG vs AA: OR, 1.23, 95% CI, 1.02-1.48, Pâ=â.031). In addition, rs6220 was found to increase overall cancer risk among Caucasians under the allele model (G vs A: OR, 1.06, 95% CI, 1.00-1.13, Pâ=â.043). CONCLUSIONS: In this meta-analysis, we investigated and reviewed the relationship between IGF1 gene 3'-UTR polymorphisms (rs5742714, rs6214, and rs6220) and cancer risk based on present epidemiological studies. Further studies are needed to draw more precise conclusions in the future.
