RESUMEN

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the prognosis of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after receiving immunotherapy and construct a prediction model to evaluate the overall survival rate of patients. Methods: This study was a retrospective study that collected data from 493 NSCLC patients who received immunotherapy for the first time. Survival data were analyzed using Cox regression models and the Kaplan-Meier method. The average age of patients was 56 years, and the data collection process included regular outpatient follow-up and observation of overall survival (OS) in the last 36 months. Results: Multivariate analysis identified significant risk factors such as smoking history, age, T stage, and M stage on survival and disease progression. The model's performance indicators (C-index and AUC) and calibration curve verified the model's accuracy and predictive ability. In the training set, the AUCs of 3-year and 5-year survival were 0.761 and 0.763, respectively, and in the validation set, they were 0.739 and 0.761. Conclusion: This study developed a prediction model for evaluating the survival of NSCLC patients after immunotherapy that integrates multiple influencing factors. This predictive model can be used as a tool to assess individual risks in NSCLC patients after immunotherapy, helping clinicians to develop more precise treatment and follow-up plans, potentially improving patient outcomes.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate literature evidences about the efficacy and safety of anti-angiogenesis agents plus chemoradiotherapy versus chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. METHODS: The relevant literature was systematically searched from the date of establishment to April 2023 in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biological Medicine, Wanfang and VIP database. Search terms included: Nasopharyngeal Neoplasms, Angiogenesis inhibitors, Endostar, Anlotinib, Apatinib, Bevacizumab, Sunitinib, Pazopanib, Chemoradiotherapy. The literature was strictly screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 8 eligible studies were finally included in our meta-analysis (4 randomized controlled trials and 4 retrospective studies). RESULTS: A total of 642 patients were included, with 316 in the anti-angiogenesis agents plus chemoradiotherapy group and 326 in the chemoradiotherapy group. The results of our meta-analysis showed that compared with chemoradiotherapy group, the complete response rate (RR = 1.35, 95% CI 1.05-1.74, P = 0.02), objective response rate (RR = 1.26, 95% CI 1.12-1.43, P = 0.0002) in the anti-angiogenesis agents plus chemoradiotherapy group were significantly improved. In terms of safety, there was a higher incidence of cardiac arrhythmia (RR = 3.63, 95% CI 1.16-11.37, P = 0.03) and hypertension (RR = 1.85, 95% CI 1.04-3.27, P = 0.004) in the anti-angiogenesis agents plus chemoradiotherapy group, while no statistically significant differences were reported in other adverse reactions (all P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Compared with chemoradiotherapy, anti-angiogenesis agents plus chemoradiotherapy could bring more benefits in terms of short-term efficacy, particularly by notably improving both complete response rate and objective response rate, and overall adverse reactions were acceptable. Anti-angiogenesis agents plus chemoradiotherapy may provide a promising direction for the treatment of locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. RESUMEN

The corrosion inhibition mechanism of sodium silicate (SS) for WE43 magnesium alloy in NaCl solution was investigated by in situ observation, electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), electrochemical test, and theoretical calculations. In situ observation showed that local corrosion was markedly inhibited after the addition of the SS inhibitor. Electrochemical data revealed that a protective layer was formed on the metal/solution interface and an optimum inhibition efficiency of 98.3% in the case of 2.5 g/L SS. A uniform magnesium silicate layer with a thickness of ∼2 µm formed on the uncorroded area was confirmed. Quantum chemical calculations revealed that SiO32- could absorb on the MgO (1 0 0) surface in a parallel orientation through the coordinate bonds between the O and Mg atoms. The distances of Mg-O bonds are 2.052 and 2.249 Å, suggesting that they are coordinated. The adsorption/interaction mechanisms of SiO32- were also analyzed through charge density distribution and atomic densities. Molecular dynamics simulations further confirmed that a uniform SiO32- layer was absorbed on the MgO surface. In the local corroded area, free SiO32- would react with Mg2+ and OH- produced by corrosion to form the insoluble magnesium silicate compound, which hindered the spread of corrosion.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Large arteriovenous malformations are often managed via endovascular embolisation followed by surgical resection. We describe the use of a new liquid embolic agent (LEA) - precipitating hydrophobic injectable liquid (PHIL) and its advantages over existing LEAs. CASE: A 60-year-old male presented with a progressively enlarging right post-auricular arteriovenous malformation. He underwent successive angioembolisation with PHIL and subsequent surgical resection on post-embolisation day 1. CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of PHIL being used in pre-operative embolization of a large extra-cranial head and neck AVM. Its excellent penetration into small calibre vessels, decreased glare artefact on imaging and decreased skin pigmentation render it a compelling alternative to existing LEAs.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the perceptions of pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) and rehabilitation care amongst women after radical hysterectomy and to explore ways to improve quality of care. METHODS: Thirty-six women who underwent radical hysterectomy at a hospital in southeast China were enrolled via purposive sampling. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted. The texts were analysed via qualitative content analysis. RESULTS: Four themes were obtained: serious lack of knowledge, heavy psychological burden, different coping strategies and great eagerness to receive multiparty support on PFD rehabilitation care. CONCLUSION: The society and professional staff should strengthen health education on PFD. Professionals should offer education before and after surgery and actively provide rehabilitation consultation to promote the availability of rehabilitation to support women with PFD rehabilitation care. In addition, family-centred care is an important way to support women to return to normal life, and women's need for family support should be more actively expressed. Moreover, knowledge of medical insurance should be popularised, especially in rural areas in China.

RESUMEN

High-energy-density lithium (Li) metal batteries suffer from a short lifespan owing to apparently ceaseless inactive Li accumulation, which is accompanied by the consumption of electrolyte and active Li reservoir, seriously deteriorating the cyclability of batteries. Herein, a triiodide/iodide (I3 - /I- ) redox couple initiated by stannic iodide (SnI4 ) is demonstrated to reclaim inactive Li. The reduction of I3 - converts inactive Li into soluble LiI, which then diffuses to the cathode side. The oxidation of LiI by the delithiated cathode transforms cathode into the lithiation state and regenerates I3 - , reclaiming Li ion from inactive Li. The regenerated I3 - engages the further redox reactions. Furthermore, the formation of Sn mitigates the corrosion of I3 - on active Li reservoir sacrificially. In working Li | LiNi0.5 Co0.2 Mn0.3 O2 batteries, the accumulated inactive Li is significantly reclaimed by the reversible I3 - /I- redox couple, improving the lifespan of batteries by twice. This work initiates a creative solution to reclaim inactive Li for prolonging the lifespan of practical Li metal batteries.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown that miRNA (miR) can be stably detected in serum, and aberrant expression of various miRNAs has shown diagnostic value in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. However, the role of miRNA in the context of prognosis has not been extensively investigated. Our previous study reported that miR-22, miR-125b, and miR-15b in serum had potential for use as tumor markers for auxiliary diagnosing of NSCLC. Therefore, the objective of this study was to detect the levels of miR-22, miR-125b, and miR-15b in serum from NSCLC patients and explore the potential prognostic significance of the three selected miRNAs. METHODS: The relative expression of miR-22, miR-125b, and miR-15b in 74 patients with advanced NSCLC in pre- and post-chemotherapy were detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Serum level of miR-125b significantly decreased after chemotherapy (p < 0.05) and the levels of miR-15b significantly increased (p < 0.01), while there was no change in the level of serum miR-22 (Z = 0.716, p > 0.05). Compared with pre-chemotherapy, serum miR-125b expression in advanced NSCLC patients of responders (CR + PR) were significantly decreased post-chemotherapy (p < 0.05); serum miR-15b expression in advanced NSCLC patients of responders (CR + PR) were increased (p < 0.01). The chemotherapy sensitivity of advanced NSCLC patients with high expression of miR-125b was lower than that of NSCLC patients with low expression (p < 0.05). The chemotherapy sensitivity of advanced NSCLC patients with high expression of miR-15b was higher than that of NSCLC patients with low expression (p < 0.05). High levels of serum miR-125b and low levels of serum miR-15b were related to poor overall survival (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The serum levels of miR-125b and miR-15b in advanced NSCLC patients were changed pre- and post-chemotherapy and these changes were associated with chemotherapeutic response. Serum miR-125b and miR-15b have certain potential clinical value for chemotherapeutic response in advanced NSCLC. The serum levels of miR-125b and miR-15b in patients with advanced NSCLC before treatment may be used to estimate the overall survival.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: CHD is reported to be the primary cause of death in patients with NAFLD. Genetic susceptibility genes contribute to the developmental risk of NAFLD or CHD. Whether the genetic factors could affect the risk of CHD in NAFLD patients is not clear. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of PNPLA3 I148M and TM6SF2 E167K variants with the risk of CHD in NAFLD patients in Chinese Han population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: PNPLA3 I148M and TM6SF2 E167K variants were genotyped in a cohort of 189 patients with NAFLD and CHD, as well as 242 patients with NAFLD and 242 healthy controls by gene sequencing. Additionally, serum lipids profiles were determined by standard clinical laboratory methods. RESULTS: The minor allele frequency of PNPLA3 I148M and TM6SF2 E167K were 0.39 and 0.06 in this cohort, respectively. The distributions of PNPLA3 I148M genotypes and alleles were significant different in NAFLD group vs controls and in NAFLD+CHD group vs NAFLD group (all P <  0.05). NAFLD patients who carry the CG + GG genotype suffered the relative lower risk of CHD than CC genotype carriers (OR = 0.6, 95%CI: 0.40-0.90, P = 0.01). In addition, PNPLA3 I148M and TM6SF2 E167K possess the joint correlation with the decreased risk of CHD in NAFLD patients with the increased number of risk alleles. Besides, PNPLA3 I148M and TM6SF2 E167K variants associated with the decreased serum lipid levels in overall series. CONCLUSIONS: There was a joint protective correlation of PNPLA3 I148M and TM6SF2 E167K variants with the developmental risk of CHD in NAFLD patients. PNPLA3 I148M and TM6SF2 E167K variants might correlated with the decreased risk of CHD in NAFLD patients by associated with the reduced serum lipid levels.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: MiRNAs are a group of multifunctional non-coding RNAs which play an important role in the various physiological processes including the development of NAFLD. Recent studies have shown that miR-30b-5p tightly associated with the abnormal lipid metabolism in patients with NAFLD, but the detailed mechanism of miR-30b-5p in the lipid metabolism was remain unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of miR-30b-5p on the lipid metabolism in hepatocellular carcinoma Huh-7 cells. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The correlation of intracellular fat content with the expression of miR-30b-5p in Huh-7 cells and HepG2 cells was investigated by treated cells with different concentrations of FFAs. The effect of miR-30b-5p on the lipid deposition in Huh-7 cells was tested by oil red O staining and TG concentrations measurement. qRT-PCR and western blot were used to investigate the lipid metabolism-related genes PPAR-α, SREBP-1, and GULT1 in miR-30b-5p overexpressed or inhibited Huh-7 cells. Target genes of miR-30b-5p were predicted using starBase, miRDB, and TargetScan databases and verified by qRT-PCR and western blot. RESULTS: The expression of miR-30b-5p was significant decreased in the FFAs treated Huh-7 cells and HepG2 cells. Overexpressing miR-30b-5p in Huh-7 cells decreased the number and size of lipid droplets and intracellular TG concentrations in Huh-7 cells. Expression of fatty acid oxidation related gene PPAR-α was increased and expression of lipid synthesis related gene SREBP-1 was decreased in the miR-30b-5p overexpressed Huh-7 cells. In addition, miR-30b-5p regulates the intracellular lipid metabolism by targeting PPARGC1A. CONCLUSIONS: Overexpression of miR-30b-5p could reduce the intracellular fat deposition in Huh-7 cells, and miR-30b-5p might regulate the intracellular lipid metabolism by targeting the PPARGC1A in Huh-7 cells.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: NAFLD is tightly associated with various diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and cancer. Previous studies had investigated the association between NAFLD and various extrahepatic cancers, but the available data to date is not conclusive. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between NAFLD and various extrahepatic cancers comprehensively. METHODS: Searches were conducted of various electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Medline, and the Cochrane Library) to identify observational studies published between 1996 and January 2020 which investigated the association between NAFLD and extrahepatic cancers. The pooled OR/HR/IRR of the association between NAFLD and various extrahepatic cancers were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 26 studies were included to investigate the association between NAFLD and various extrahepatic cancers. As the results shown, the pooled OR values of the risk of colorectal cancer and adenomas in patients with NAFLD were 1.72 (95%CI: 1.40-2.11) and 1.37 (95%CI: 1.29-1.46), respectively. The pooled OR values of the risk of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma in patients with NAFLD were 2.46 (95%CI: 1.77-3.44) and 2.24 (95%CI: 1.58-3.17), respectively. The pooled OR value of the risk of breast cancer in patients with NAFLD was 1.69 (95%CI: 1.44-1.99). In addition, NAFLD was also tightly associatied with the risk of gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, and esophageal cancer. CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD could significantly increase the development risk of colorectal adenomas and cancer, intrahepatic and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, breast, gastric, pancreatic, prostate, and esophageal cancer. NAFLD could be considered as one of the influencing factors during the clinical diagnosis and treatment for the extrahepatic cancers.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Various types of the harmonic scalpel blades have been used for tonsillectomy since the early 2000s with varying successes. The HARMONIC ACE® + 23 cm shears is a relatively new blade which has not been studied in an adult population yet. METHODOLOGY: A randomized controlled pilot study was performed comparing the HARMONIC ACE® + 23 cm shears (HS) and monopolar electrocautery (EC) tonsillectomy in 20 patients. Intraoperative blood loss, pain control, return to normal diet and activity as well as patient satisfaction outcomes were compared between these two arms. RESULTS: The operative time was comparable. Compared to the EC arm, there was less intraoperative bleeding, lower risks of delayed haemorrhage and readmission in the HS arm. Post-operative pain scores and use of analgesia were similar. There was earlier return to normal diet and activity in the HS arm compared to the EC arm. More patients in the HS arm recommended using HARMONIC ACE® + 23 cm shears compared to those in the EC arm. This is a non-inferiority study which suggests that the HARMONIC ACE® + 23 cm shears is comparable to monopolar electrocautery in terms of efficacy and post-operative complication rates with better patient satisfaction outcomes. The main weakness of the study is a small study population. CONCLUSION: This is the first reported study comparing the use of the HARMONIC ACE® + 23 cm shears with monopolar cautery in tonsillectomy. A prospective adequately powered study validated by objective outcome measures would be useful to verify the findings from this pilot study.

RESUMEN

Vascular calcification is highly prevalent in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), one of the most common chronic diseases with high morbidity and mortality. In recent years, microRNAs have been widely reported as potential biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of T2DM. We hypothesized that miR-128-3p is associated with cardiovascular calcification and insulin resistance (IR) in rats with T2DM by targeting ISL1 via the Wnt pathway. Microarray analysis was adopted to identify differentially expressed genes related to T2DM. T2DM models were induced in rats. Blood samples from normal and T2DM rats were used to detect islet ß-cell function, islet sensitivity, and calcium content. Next, islet tissues were obtained to identify the expression of miR-128-3p, ISL1, and the Wnt signaling pathway- and apoptosis-related genes. Finally, apoptosis of islet ß-cells was determined by flow cytometry. Through microarray analysis of GSE27382 and GSE23343, ISL1 was found to be downregulated in T2DM. In blood samples from T2DM rats, basic biochemical indicators, IR, and calcium content were increased, and islet sensitivity and islet ß-cell function were decreased. Furthermore, upregulation of miR-128-3p and ISL1 gene silencing promoted the expression of Wnt-1, ß-catenin, GSK-3ß, and Bax and the phosphorylation of ß-catenin and GSK-3ß, inhibited c-fos, PDX-1, and Bcl-2 expression, and enhanced cell apoptosis. The key findings of our study demonstrate that miR-128-3p aggravates cardiovascular calcification and IR in T2DM rats by downregulating ISL1 through the activation of the Wnt pathway. Thus, miR-128-3p may serve as a potential target for the treatment of T2DM.

RESUMEN

The low temperature and elevated hydrostatic pressure in hadal trenches at water depths below 6000 m render sample collection difficult. Here, in situ hadal water microbial samples were collected from the Mariana Trench and analysed. The hadal microbial communities at different depths were revealed to be consistent and were dominated by heterotrophic Marinimicrobia. Thirty high-quality metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) were retrieved to represent the major hadal microbes affiliated with 12 prokaryotic phyla. Most of the MAGs were newly reported and probably derived from novel hadal inhabitants as exemplified by a potentially new candidate archaeal phylum in the DPANN superphylum. Metabolic reconstruction indicated that a great number of the MAGs participated in nitrogen and sulfur cycling, in which the nitrification process was driven sequentially by Thaumarchaeota and Nitrospirae and sulfur oxidization by Rhodospirillales in the Alphaproteobacteria class. Moreover, several groups of hadal microbes were revealed to be potential carbon monoxide oxidizers. Metatranscriptomic result highlighted the contribution of Chloroflexi in degrading recalcitrant dissolved organic matter and Marinimicrobia in extracellular protein decomposition. The present work provides an in-depth view on the hadal microbial communities regarding their endemism and element cycles.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To explore the value of combining apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) and texture parameters from diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in predicting the pathological subtypes and stages of thymic epithelial tumors (TETs). METHODS: Fifty-seven patients with TETs confirmed by pathological analysis were retrospectively enrolled. ADC values and optimal texture feature parameters were compared for differences among low-risk thymoma (LRT), high-risk thymoma (HRT), and thymic carcinoma (TC) by one-way ANOVA, and between early and advanced stages of TETs were tested using the independent samples t test. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the differentiating efficacy. RESULTS: The ADC values in LRT and HRT were significantly higher than the values in TC (p = 0.004 and 0.001, respectively), also in early stage, values were significantly higher than ones in advanced stage of TETs (p < 0.001). Among all texture parameters analyzed in order to differentiate LRT from HRT and TC, the V312 achieved higher diagnostic efficacy with an AUC of 0.875, and combination of ADC and V312 achieved the highest diagnostic efficacy with an AUC of 0.933, for differentiating the LRT from HRT and TC. Furthermore, combination of ADC and V1030 achieved a relatively high differentiating ability with an AUC of 0.772, for differentiating early from advanced stages of TETs. CONCLUSIONS: Combination of ADC and DWI texture parameters improved the differentiating ability of TET grades, which could potentially be useful in clinical practice regarding the TET evaluation before treatment. KEY POINTS: • DWI texture analysis is useful in differentiating TET subtypes and stages. • Combination of ADC and DWI texture parameters may improve the differentiating ability of TET grades. • DWI texture analysis could potentially be useful in clinical practice regarding the TET evaluation before treatment.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Present evidences suggested that TRIB1 rs17321515 polymorphism was tightly associated with the increased risk of NAFLD and CHD. CHD is one of the main complications of NAFLD, whether TRIB1 rs17321515 polymorphism could affect the risk of CHD in general population and NAFLD patients in Chinese Han population was remain unknown. The present study was designed to investigate the association between TRIB1 rs17321515 polymorphism and the risk of CHD in general population and NAFLD patients in Chinese Han population, and investigate the effect of TRIB1 rs17321515 polymorphism on serum lipid levels. PATIENTS AND METHODS: TRIB1 rs17321515 gene polymorphism was genotyped using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in healthy controls (n = 175), CHD patients (n = 155), NAFLD patients (n = 146), and NAFLD+CHD patients (n = 156). Serum lipid profiles were determined using biochemical methods. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 24.0 statistical software. RESULTS: The TRIB1 rs17321515 AA+GA genotypes were the significant risk factors for the CHD in general population (OR = 1.788; 95% CI: 1.104-2.897; P = 0.018) and in the NAFLD patients (OR = 1.760; 95% CI: 1.071-2.891; P = 0.026). After adjusted for age, gender, and body mass index, the risk for CHD in general population (OR = 1.857; 95% CI: 1.116-3.089; P = 0.017) and NAFLD patients was still significant (OR = 1.723; 95% CI: 1.033-2.873; P = 0.037). In addition, TRIB1 rs17321515 A carriers possess the higher lipid profiles in the included subjects. CONCLUSIONS: TRIB1 rs17321515 AA+GA genotypes were significant associated with the risk of CHD in general population and in NAFLD patients in Chinese Han population. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: PNPLA3 I148M variant and TM6SF2 E167K variant are recognized as the major genetic modifiers of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The present study sought to evaluate the potential additive effect of the two variants on the risk of NAFLD in Qingdao Han Population, China. METHODS: We genotyped PNPLA3 I148M variant and TM6SF2 E167K variant in a cohort of 512 unrelated NAFLD patients and 451 healthy controls by sequencing and polymerase chain reaction analysis. In addition, serum lipid profiles and liver enzymes were determined by standard clinical laboratory methods. RESULTS: The minor allele frequencies were 45.48% for PNPLA3 148 locus G allele and 6.69% for TM6SF2 167 locus T allele. The PNPLA3 I148M variant was significantly associated with the risk of NAFLD in an additive model (CG, OR = 2.092, 95% CI: 1.551-2.820, P = 0.000; GG, OR = 4.566, 95% CI: 3.141-6.638, P = 0.000, respectively). And, our data suggested a strong link between the TM6SF2 E167K variant and the risk of NAFLD in a dominant model (CT + TT, OR = 2.327, 95% CI: 1.542-3.513, P = 0.000). In addition, the increasing of the number of risk alleles were associated with the risk of NAFLD (1 risk allele, OR = 1.687, P = 0.001; 2 risk alleles, OR = 4.326, P = 0.000; 3 risk alleles, OR = 6.018, P = 0.027, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Combining the I148M and E167K variants in a manner of an additive effect could improve risk prediction for NAFLD in a Qingdao Han Population cohort. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Dysregulation of the lipid homeostasis is an independent risk factor for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Some studies had demonstrated that TRIB1 gene polymorphisms affect the plasma lipids metabolism, but no related data was available for TRIB1 gene polymorphisms in the lipids metabolism in Chinses Han population. The present study was conducted to investigate the association between TRIB1 gene polymorphisms (rs17321515 and rs2954029) and the risk of NAFLD in Chinese Han population and their effects on serum lipid profiles. PATIENTS AND METHODS: TRIB1 rs17321515 and rs2954029 gene polymorphisms were genotyped using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in B-type ultrasonography-proven NAFLD patients (n = 146) and healthy controls (n = 175). Serum lipid profiles were determined using biochemical methods. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 22.0 statistical software. RESULTS: The allele distributions of TRIB1 rs17321515 A and rs2954029 A were significant different between the NAFLD patients and healthy controls (P = 0.026, P = 0.045, respectively). The genotype distribution of TRIB1 rs17321515 was significant different between NAFLD patients and healthy controls (P = 0.038). The TRIB1 rs17321515 GA + AA genotype and TRIB1 rs2954029 TA + AA genotype markedly increase the NAFLD risk (OR = 1.885; 95%CI: 1.157-3.070; OR = 1.627; 95%CI: 1.011-2.619, respectively), after adjusted for age, gender, and body mass index, the NAFLD risk still significant (OR = 2.240; 95%CI: 1.196-4.197; OR = 2.050; 95%CI: 1.110-3.786, respectively). In addition, TRIB1 rs17321515 A and rs2954029 A carriers possess the higher lipid profiles in the included subjects. CONCLUSIONS: TRIB1 rs17321515 and rs2954029 were significant associated with the risk of NAFLD in Chinese Han population. The rs17321515 A and rs2954029 A allele increases the serum lipid profiles in Chinese Han population.

RESUMEN

Thyroglossal duct cysts (TDC) are the most common congenital neck masses. Although they are anatomically closely related to the larynx, intra-laryngeal extension is very rare. We present a case, review the literature and discuss the challenges of intra-laryngeal TDC. A 55-year-old man presented with a neck mass associated with dysphagia. Computer Tomography neck scan showed a midline cyst extending to the pre-epiglottic space with partial obliteration of the right pyriform sinus and narrowing of the larynx. The cyst was excised en-bloc via Sistrunk procedure. Intra-laryngeal TDC are surgically challenging due to risk of perforation into the aerodigestive tract.

RESUMEN

Improving both the stability and accuracy of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is an issue in quantitative analysis. For certain environments outside of the laboratory, consistently and exactly maintaining the distance from the optical system to the sample surface is difficult, and fluctuations of this distance severely affect the stability of the spectrum. In this work, the principal components of the plasma images are extracted and used to correct the spectral line intensities as an auxiliary method to reduce spectral fluctuation. The presented image auxiliary method is combined with univariate analysis and multivariate analysis, and the element concentrations of Cu, Mn, V, and Cr in steel samples are analyzed. For univariate analysis, all the determination coefficients ( R2) of the four elements exceed 0.99, whereas the average relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the intensities decrease from 30.45, 23.14, 27.03, and 22.04%, to 2.13, 3.38, 2.49, and 3.58%, respectively. For the multivariate analysis, the R2 values for Cu, Mn, V, and Cr also all exceed 0.99, and the average RSDs of the predicted concentrations of the validation samples decrease to 2.87, 3.82, 2.86, and 6.51%, respectively.

RESUMEN

Mechanisms for postovulatory aging (POA) of oocytes and for spontaneous activation (SA) of rat oocytes are largely unknown. Expression of calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) in rat oocytes and its role in POA remain unexplored. In this study, expression of CaSR in rat oocytes aging for different times was detected by immunofluorescence microscopy, and western blotting and the role of CaSR in POA was determined by observing the effects of regulating its activity on SA susceptibility and cytoplasmic calcium levels. The results showed that CaSR was expressed in rat oocytes. Oocytes recovered 19 h post human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) injection were more susceptible to SA and expressed more functional CaSR than oocytes recovered 13 h after hCG injection, although both expressed the same level of total CaSR protein. Treatment with CaSR antagonist significantly suppressed cytoplasmic calcium elevation and SA of oocytes. Activation of Na-Ca2+ exchanger with NaCl inhibited SA to a greater extent than suppression of CaSR with NPS-2143, suggesting that calcium sources other than CaSR-controlled channels contributed to the elevation of cytoplasmic calcium. Treatment with T- or L-type calcium channel blockers significantly reduced SA. Suppression of all calcium channels tested reduced SA to minimum. It is concluded that the level of CaSR functional dimer protein, but not that of the total CaSR protein, was positively correlated with the SA susceptibility during POA of rat oocytes confirming that CaSR is involved in POA regulation. Blocking multiple calcium channels might be a better choice for efficient control of SA in rat oocytes.
