RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Cutaneous ciliated cysts are rare benign lesions most commonly seen in the lower extremities of young female patients. There is still ongoing debate about the origin of these cysts, with the most common theories being Mullerian heterotopia and eccrine gland metaplasia. To further increase the data pool, we present 2 new cutaneous ciliated cyst cases and gathered data about all 67 cases of literature. We want to highlight that immunohistochemistry and demographic information may play a key role in distinguishing between the 2 possible origins of this cyst, namely estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and carcinoembryonic antigen immunohistochemistry. Estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor nuclear positivity is proof of Mullerian origin, but when they are negative with a positive carcinoembryonic antigen, the most likely origin is eccrine gland metaplasia. We advocate using the terms "Cutaneous Mullerian Cyst" and "Ciliated Cutaneous Eccrine Cyst" instead of "Cutaneous Ciliated Cyst" to accurately indicate their distinct origins.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Despite screening, the incidence of breast cancer is increasing worldwide. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) response is one of the most important parameters taken into consideration in surgery, optimal adjuvant chemotherapy planning and prognosis prediction. Research on predictive markers for the response to NAC is still ongoing. In our study, we investigated the relationship between tumor-infiltrating neutrophils/mast cells/lymphocytes and NAC response in breast carcinomas. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Study included 117 patients who were diagnosed with invasive breast carcinoma using core needle biopsy. In these biopsies tumor-infiltrating neutrophils/mast cells/lymphocytes were evaluated and Miller Payne Score was used for NAC response. RESULT: 53 patients exhibited high TILs, 36 had high TINs, and 46 showed high TIMs. While pathological complete response was 27 % in all patients, it was 38 % in high TINs patients, 35 % in high TILs patients, and 28 % in high TIMs patients. High TIMs were observed to be statistically associated with survival. TILs, TINs, nuclear grade, ER, PR and HER2 expression, Ki-67 proliferation index were found to be associated with the Miller - Payne score. In multivariate analysis, TINs, nuclear grade, pathological stage, and molecular subtype were found to be independent risk factors for treatment response. CONCLUSION: TINs have better prognostic value to predict neoadjuvant treatment than TILs. High TIMs are associated with increased overall survival. The inclusion of TINs in NAC response and TIMs in overall survival in pathology reports and treatment planning is promising in breast carcinomas as they are simple to use and reproducible markers.

RESUMEN

We report on the synthesis of semiconducting AgFeS2 nanowires, obtained from the conversion of Ag nanowires. The study of the conversion process shows that the formation of Ag2S nanowires, as an intermediate step, precedes the conversion into AgFeS2 nanowires. The chemical properties of AgFeS2 nanowires were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy at intermediate steps of the conversion process and show that the temperature at which the reaction takes place is critical to obtaining nanowires as opposed to nanotubes. Optical measurements on nanowire ensembles confirm the semiconducting nature of AgFeS2, with a direct band gap of 0.88 eV.

RESUMEN

Here, we show a novel solid-solid-vapor (SSV) growth mechanism whereby epitaxial growth of heterogeneous semiconductor nanowires takes place by evaporation-induced cation exchange. During heating of PbSe-CdSe nanodumbbells inside a transmission electron microscope (TEM), we observed that PbSe nanocrystals grew epitaxially at the expense of CdSe nanodomains driven by evaporation of Cd. Analysis of atomic-resolution TEM observations and detailed atomistic simulations reveals that the growth process is mediated by vacancies.

RESUMEN

A great variety of single- and multi-component nanocrystals (NCs) can now be synthesized and integrated into nanocrystal superlattices. However, the thermal and temporal stability of these superstructures and their components can be a limiting factor for their application as functional devices. On the other hand, temperature induced reconstructions can also reveal opportunities to manipulate properties and access new types of nanostructures. In situ atomically resolved monitoring of nanomaterials provides insight into the temperature induced evolution of the individual NC constituents within these superstructures at the atomic level. Here, we investigate the effect of temperature annealing on 2D square and hexagonal arrays of FexO/CoFe2O4 core/shell NCs by in situ heating in a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Both cubic and spherical NCs undergo a core-shell reconfiguration at a temperature of approximately 300 ° C, whereby the FexO core material segregates at the exterior of the CoFe2O4 shell, forming asymmetric dumbbells ('snowman-type' particles) with a small FexO domain attached to a larger CoFe2O4 domain. Upon continued annealing, the segregated FexO domains form bridges between the CoFe2O4 domains, followed by coalescence of all domains, resulting in loss of ordering in the 2D arrays.

RESUMEN

A transferable force field for the PbSe-CdSe solid system using the partially charged rigid ion model has been successfully developed and was used to study the cation exchange in PbSe-CdSe heteronanocrystals [A. O. Yalcin et al., "Atomic resolution monitoring of cation exchange in CdSe-PbSe heteronanocrystals during epitaxial solid-solid-vapor growth," Nano Lett. 14, 3661-3667 (2014)]. In this work, we extend this force field by including another two important binary semiconductors, PbS and CdS, and provide detailed information on the validation of this force field. The parameterization combines Bader charge analysis, empirical fitting, and ab initio energy surface fitting. When compared with experimental data and density functional theory calculations, it is shown that a wide range of physical properties of bulk PbS, PbSe, CdS, CdSe, and their mixed phases can be accurately reproduced using this force field. The choice of functional forms and parameterization strategy is demonstrated to be rational and effective. This transferable force field can be used in various studies on II-VI and IV-VI semiconductor materials consisting of CdS, CdSe, PbS, and PbSe. Here, we demonstrate the applicability of the force field model by molecular dynamics simulations whereby transformations are initiated by cation exchange.

RESUMEN

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are used to show that a spherical zinc blende (ZB) nanocrystal (NC) can transform into a tetrapod or an octapod as a result of heating, by a local zincblende-to-wurtzite phase transformation taking place in the NC. The partial sphere-to-tetrapod or sphere-to-octapod transition occurs within simulation times of 30 ns and depends on both temperature and NC size. Surprisingly, the wurtzite (WZ) subdomains are not formed through a slip mechanism but are mediated by the formation of highly mobile Cd vacancies on the ZB{111} Cd atomic planes. The total potential energy of a tetrapod is found to be lower than that of a ZB sphere at the same numbers of atoms. The simulation results are in good agreement with experimental high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) data obtained on heated colloidal CdSe NCs.

RESUMEN

Background: Metastatic breast cancer diagnosis is the most common malignancy in pregnancy and the incidence of it has been increasing among the pregnant women due to advancing maternal age within the populations. However, there are limited data about the use of trastuzumab during pregnancy with conflicting results.Case history: A 37-year-old pregnant female patient was admitted to our hospital with the metastatic breast cancer diagnosis. An MRI study showed metastatic solid masses in all lobes and segments of the patient's liver. Patient was treated with weekly docetaxel and trastuzumab regimen from 22 to 34 weeks and labored electively at the 35th gestational week. Antenatal follow-up of the fetus showed all normal ranges without any complications. An abdominal MRI following the labor revealed complete clearance of liver metastasis. Conclusions: Use of trastuzumab during pregnancy is debated due to the limited number of cases reported in the literature. This article gives a summary of the existing data where the outcome was a complete remission in disease with normal fetal development during pregnancy.

RESUMEN

Unilateral oculomotor nerve palsy is a rare and challenging condition for both emergency department (ED) physicians and neurosurgeons. In this report, we present you a case of head trauma with oculomotor nerve palsy whose initial neuroimaging findings were normal. A 50-year-old female presented to our ED due to head trauma secondary to fall from height. On her physical examination, ptosis, minimal lateral deviation, and dilated pupilla unresponsive to the light were determined in the left eye. A computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were performed and both were found to be normal. Patient was consulted with an ophthalmologist and any sign of direct trauma to the eye was not determined. Then, the patient was consulted with a neurosurgeon and hospitalized. In some rare instances, minor traumas to the head may result in isolated oculomotor nerve palsy without accompanying findings. Neurosurgeons and ED physicians must be careful about this rare condition.

RESUMEN

In this work, we investigate the thermal evolution of CdSe-CdS-ZnS core-multishell quantum dots (QDs) in situ using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Starting at a temperature of approximately 250 °C, Zn diffusion into inner layers takes place together with simultaneous evaporation of particularly Cd and S. As a result of this transformation, CdxZn1-xSe-CdyZn1-yS core-shell QDs are obtained.
