RESUMEN

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is a promising solution to harvest the low-frequency, low-actuation-force, and high-entropy droplet energy. Conventional attempts mainly focus on maximizing electrostatic energy harvest on the liquid-solid surface, but enormous kinetic energy of droplet hitting the substrate is directly dissipated, limiting the output performance. Here, a dual-mode TENG (DM-TENG) is proposed to efficiently harvest both electrostatic energy at liquid-solid surface from a droplet TENG (D-TENG) and elastic potential energy of the vibrated cantilever from a contact-separation TENG (CS-TENG). Triggered by small droplets, the flexible cantilever beam, rather than conventional stiff ones, can easily vibrate multiple times with large amplitude, enabling frequency multiplication of CS-TENG and producing amplified output charges. Combining with the top electrode design to sufficiently utilize charges at liquid-solid interface, a record-high output charge of 158 nC is realized by single droplet. The energy conversion efficiency of DM-TENG is 2.66-fold of D-TENG. An array system with the specially designed power management circuit is also demonstrated for building self-powered system, offering promising applications for efficiently harvesting raindrop energy.

RESUMEN

Covering: up to the end of 2021[2 + 2]-Type cyclobutane natural products are biosynthetically derived from intermolecular [2 + 2] cycloaddition or intramolecular [2 + 2] cycloaddition reactions. Due to their distinctive cyclobutane architectures, diverse biological effects, interesting formation processes, and synthetic challenges, these compounds have attracted considerable attention from scientists. In this article, the progress in research published through the end of 2021 on [2 + 2]-cycloaddition-derived cyclobutane natural products, including their structural diversity, sources, bioactivities and biomimetic syntheses, was reviewed; in addition, structural revisions were included. Emphasis was placed on the structural diversity of these interesting molecules and their biomimetic syntheses, which will provide inspiration for the total synthesis or biomimetic synthesis of more [2 + 2]-type cyclobutane natural products and further phytochemistry investigations.

In this phytochemical investigation, two pairs of new phenylethanoid derivative enantiomers (1a/1b and 2a/2b), a new phenylethanoid derivative 3b, and seven known compounds (3a, 4-9) were isolated from the leaves of Picrasma quassioides. Spectroscopic techniques were used for the elucidation of their chemical structures, and the absolute configurations were determined by a comparison between the experimental and calculated ECD data, as well as the application of Snatzke's method. Compounds (1a/1b-3a/3b) were measured for their production of NO levels in LPS-induced BV-2 microglial cells. The results showed that all compounds exhibited potential inhibitory effects, and compound 1a showed stronger activity than the positive control.

RESUMEN

Three new compounds, crotalariapallins A-C (1-3), were isolated from the 95% EtOH extract of the seeds of Crotalaria pallida. Their structures were established based on extensive spectroscopic methods, including HRESIMS, UV, 1D and 2D NMR. All compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory activities to tyrosinase. These compounds showed different degrees of inhibitory activities, among them, compound 3 exhibited the strongest inhibition activity (IC50 = 0.42 mM).

RESUMEN

Gastrointestinal angiosarcoma is an extremely rare malignant tumor of the digestive tract, characterized by a very poor prognosis, with few patients surviving more than 1 year after diagnosis. This case report describes a 71-year-old female patient with a 3-year history of intermittent abdominal pain and significant exacerbation of abdominal pain and bloating 2 weeks prior to treatment. After surgical treatment, the pathological and immunohistochemical diagnosis was primary epithelioid angiosarcoma of the jejunal mesentery. The patient refused postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and died 4 months after diagnosis due to widespread systemic metastasis. In addition, this article reviews 38 previously reported cases of primary gastrointestinal angiosarcoma, aiming to further understand angiosarcoma and thus guide clinical practitioners in providing more comprehensive treatment approaches.

In this study, eight new natural products were isolated from the leaves of Picrasma quassioides. Spectroscopic techniques were used for the elucidation of their planar structures. Their absolute configurations were elucidated on the basis of electron circular dichroism (ECD) techniques combined with the P/M helicity rule for the 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran chromophore, and saccharide hydrolysis. Cholinesterase inhibitors are often used as Alzheimer's disease inhibitors.Thus, acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibitory activity of these eight compounds were tested, and results showed that only compound 6 showed weakly acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity. In particular, molecular docking was used to illustrate the bindings between compound 6 and the active sites of AChE.

The effect of malathion in ice is a poorly researched area, and ice is an important habitat for organisms at the base of the food web. This study presents laboratory-controlled experiments designed to investigate the migration rule of malathion during lake freezing. Concentrations of malathion were determined in samples of melted ice and in under-ice water. The effects of the initial sample concentration, freezing ratio, and freezing temperature on the distribution of malathion in the ice-water system were investigated. The concentration effect and migration capacity of malathion during freezing was characterized by the concentration rate and distribution coefficient. The results showed that the formation of ice led to the concentration of malathion appearing as follows: concentration in under-ice water > concentration in raw water > concentration in ice. This implied that malathion tended to migrate from the ice to the under-ice water during the freezing process. The increase in the initial malathion concentration, freezing ratio, and freezing temperature caused a more pronounced repulsion of the malathion by the ice and increased the migration to the under-ice water. When the solution of malathion with an initial concentration of 50 µg/L was frozen at -9 °C and the freezing ratio reached 60%, the concentration of malathion in the under-ice water was concentrated to 2.34 times the initial concentration. The migration of malathion to under-ice water during freezing may pose a potential threat to under-ice ecology; therefore, the environmental quality and impact of under-ice water in icebound lakes needs to be given more attention.

Tribovoltaic nanogenerators (TVNGs) have the characteristics of high current density, low matched impedance and continuous output, which is expected to solve the problem of power supply for small electronic devices. However, wear occurrence in friction interface will seriously reduce the performance of TVNGs as well as lifetime. Here, we employ MXene solution as lubricate to improve output current density and lifetime of TVNG simultaneously, where a high value of 754 mA m-2 accompanied with a record durability of 90,000 cycles were achieved. By comparing multiple liquid lubricates with different polarity, we show that conductive polar liquid with MXene as additive plays a crucial role in enhancing the electrical output performance and durability of TVNG. Moreover, the universality of MXene solution is well demonstrated in various TVNGs with Cu and P-type Si, and Cu and N-GaAs as material pairs. This work may guide and accelerates the practical application of TVNG in future.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 12 (CDK12) interacts with cyclin K to form a functional nuclear kinase that promotes processive transcription elongation through phosphorylation of the C-terminal domain of RNA polymerase II (Pol II). To gain a comprehensive understanding of CDK12's cellular function, we used chemical genetic and phosphoproteomic screening to identify a landscape of nuclear human CDK12 substrates, including regulators of transcription, chromatin organization, and RNA splicing. We further validated LEO1, a subunit of the polymerase-associated factor 1 complex (PAF1C), as a bona fide cellular substrate of CDK12. Acute depletion of LEO1, or substituting LEO1 phosphorylation sites with alanine, attenuated PAF1C association with elongating Pol II and impaired processive transcription elongation. Moreover, we discovered that LEO1 interacts with and is dephosphorylated by the Integrator-PP2A complex (INTAC) and that INTAC depletion promotes the association of PAF1C with Pol II. Together, this study reveals an uncharacterized role for CDK12 and INTAC in regulating LEO1 phosphorylation, providing important insights into gene transcription and its regulation.

High blood glucose level (hyperglycemia) is a leading indicator of diabetes mellitus (DM). Erythrocytes are the most abundant cells in the circulation and the first to perceive changes in plasma composition. Long-lasting hyperglycemia affects the structure and function of erythrocytes. The detection of erythrocyte-related indicators can provide a valuable reference for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of DM and its complications. This paper reviews the normal structure and function of erythrocytes, the changes in erythrocytes in patients with diabetes, and the role of erythrocytes in the development of diabetic complications to provide more indicators for the early prevention of DM complications and to monitor the therapeutic effect of DM.

Seven undescribed tirucallane-type triterpenoids, kumunorquassins A‒E and kumuquassins K and L, along with nine known analogues, have been isolated from the leaves of Picrasma quassioides (D. Don) Benn. Their structures and absolute configurations were elucidated based on comprehensive spectroscopic analyses, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD). The absolute configuration of cornusalterin J was unequivocally determined by X-ray diffraction based on its p-bromobenzoate derivative. A brief approach was presented in our study, which could rapidly and conveniently determine the relative and absolute configurations of OCH3-23 of kumuquassin L and cornusalterins J, H and G depending on the chemical shift differences (Δδ) of C-24 and C-25 and the chemical shifts of C-23, H-23 and H-24. In addition, the cytotoxicities of these compounds against two human tumour cell lines (HepG2 and Hep3B) were evaluated.

Phosphorus acts as an essential macroelement in plant growth and development. A lack of phosphate (Pi) in arable soil and phosphate fertilizer resources is a vital limiting factor in crop yields. Calcineurin B-like proteins (CBLs) act as one of the most important calcium sensors in plants; however, whether CBLs are involved in Pi deficiency signaling pathway remains largely elusive. In this study, we utilized a reverse genetic strategy to screen Arabidopsis thaliana T-DNA insertion mutants belonging to the CBL family under Pi deficiency conditions. The cbl1 mutant exhibited a relatively tolerant phenotype, with longer roots, lower anthocyanin content, and elevated Pi content under Pi deficiency, and a more sensitive phenotype to arsenate treatment compared with wild-type plants. Moreover, CBL1 was upregulated, and the mutation of CBL1 caused phosphate starvation-induced (PSIs) genes to be significantly induced under Pi deficiency. Histochemical staining demonstrated that the cbl1 mutant has decreased acid phosphatase activity and hydrogen peroxide concentrations under Pi deficiency. Collectively, our results have revealed a novel role of CBL1 in maintaining Pi homeostasis.

The investigation of the ethanol extract of the seeds of Crataegus pinnatifida led to the isolation of seven new 8-O-4' type sesquineolignans crasesquineolignan A-G (1-7), along with a reported analogue, leptolepisol B (8). The chemical structures of these compounds were elucidated based on complex analysis of their MS, 1D and 2D NMR data. All the isolated compounds were tested for their neuroprotective effects against the damage of human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells induced by H2O2, and most of them showed significant neuroprotective activity. Among them, compound 4 (77.58%) showed the best protective effect, even better than the positive control (69.26%) at 25 µM.
