RESUMEN

Palladium hydrides (PdHx) are pivotal in both fundamental research and practical applications across a wide spectrum. PdHx nanocrystals, synthesized by heating in dimethylformamide (DMF), exhibit remarkable stability, granting them widespread applications in the field of electrocatalysis. However, this stability appears inconsistent with their metastable nature. The substantial challenges in characterizing nanoscale structures contribute to the limited understanding of this anomalous phenomenon. Here, through a series of well-conceived experimental designs and advanced characterization techniques, including aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (AC-STEM), in situ X-ray diffraction (XRD), and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS), we have uncovered evidence that indicates the presence of C and N within the lattice of Pd (PdCxNy), rather than H (PdHx). By combining theoretical calculations, we have thoroughly studied the potential configurations and thermodynamic stability of PdCxNy, demonstrating a 2.5:1 ratio of C to N infiltration into the Pd lattice. Furthermore, we successfully modulated the electronic structure of Pd nanocrystals through C and N doping, enhancing their catalytic activity in methanol oxidation reactions. This breakthrough provides a new perspective on the structure and composition of Pd-based nanocrystals infused with light elements, paving the way for the development of advanced catalytic materials in the future.

RESUMEN

The migration and risk of organophosphate esters (OPEs) in agricultural air-soil-plant multimedia systems due to plastic film application remain unclear. This study investigates the multimedia distribution of traditional OPEs (TOPEs), novel OPEs (NOPEs), and their transformation products (POPEs) in plastic and solar greenhouses. The total concentration of OPE-associated contaminants in air and airborne particles ranged from 594 to 1560 pg/m3 and 443 to 15600 ng/g, respectively. Significant correlations between air OPE concentrations and those in polyolefin film (P < 0.01) indicate plastic film as the primary source. Contaminants were also found in soils (96.8-9630 ng/g) and vegetables (197-7540 ng/g). The primary migration pathway for NOPEs was particle dry deposition onto the soil and leaf, followed by plant accumulation. Leaf absorption was the main uptake pathway for TOPEs and POPEs, influenced by vegetable specific leaf surface area. Moreover, total exposure to OPE-associated contaminants via vegetable intake was assessed at 2250 ng/kg bw/day for adults and 2900 ng/kg bw/day for children, with an acceptable hazard index. However, a high ecological risk was identified for NOPE compounds (median risk quotient, 975). This study provides the first evidence of the multimedia distribution and potential threat posed by OPE-associated contaminants in agricultural greenhouses.

RESUMEN

The contamination status of novel organophosphate esters (NOPEs) and their precursors organophosphite antioxidants (OPAs) and hydroxylated/diester transformation products (OH-OPEs/di-OPEs) in soils across a large-scale area in China were investigated. The total concentrations of the three test NOPEs in soil were 82.4-716 ng g-1, which were considerably higher than those of traditional OPEs (4.50-430 ng g-1), OPAs (n.d.-30.8 ng g-1), OH-OPEs (n.d.-0.49 ng g-1), and di-OPEs (0.57-21.1 ng g-1). One NOPE compound, i.e., tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphate (AO168 = O) contributed over 65% of the concentrations of the studied OPE-associated contaminants. A 30-day soil incubation experiment was performed to confirm the influence of AO168 = O on soil bacterial communities. Specific genera belonging to Proteobacteria, such as Lysobacter and Ensifer, were enriched in AO168 = O-contaminated soils. Moreover, the ecological function of methylotrophy was observed to be significantly enhanced (t-test, p < 0.01) in soil treated with AO168 = O, while nitrogen fixation was significantly inhibited (t-test, p < 0.01). These findings comprehensively revealed the contamination status of OPE-associated contaminants in the soil environment and provided the first evidence of the effects of NOPEs on soil microbial communities.

RESUMEN

The heterogeneous photodegradation behavior of liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) in standard dust (standard reference material, SRM 2583) and environmental dust was investigated. The measured photodegradation ratios for 23 LCMs in SRM and environmental dust in 12 h were 11.1 ± 1.8 to 23.2 ± 1.1% and 8.7 ± 0.5 to 24.0 ± 2.8%, respectively. The degradation behavior of different LCM compounds varied depending on their structural properties. A quantitative structure-activity relationship model for predicting the degradation ratio of LCMs in SRM dust was established, which revealed that the molecular descriptors related to molecular polarizability, electronegativity, and molecular mass were closely associated with LCMs' photodegradation. The photodegradation products of the LCM compound 4'-propoxy-4-biphenylcarbonitrile (PBIPHCN) in dust, including •OH oxidation, C-O bond cleavage, and ring-opening products, were identified by nontarget analysis, and the corresponding degradation pathways were suggested. Some of the identified products, such as 4'-hydroxyethoxy-4-biphenylcarbonitrile, showed predicted toxicity (with an oral rat lethal dose of 50%) comparable to that of PBIPHCN. The half-lives of the studied LCMs in SRM dust were estimated at 32.2-82.5 h by fitting an exponential decay curve to the observed photodegradation data. The photodegradation mechanisms of LCMs in dust were revealed for the first time, enhancing the understanding of LCMs' environmental behavior and risks.

RESUMEN

AIMS: Coagulase (Coa), a crucial virulence factor of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), is considered a vital target for anti-virulence strategies. The research aimed to discover a natural compound capable of inhibiting S. aureus infection by targeting the virulence factor Coa. METHODS AND RESULTS: The study showed that sinensetin at a concentration of 128 µg mL-1 effectively inhibited both Coa-induced coagulation and biofilm formation in S. aureus. However, western blot results indicated that sinensetin did not impact the expression of Coa protein, suggesting that sinensetin may directly target Coa to counteract the virulence of S. aureus. Thermal shift assay results demonstrated that sinensetin enhanced the thermal stability of Coa, supporting the theory of direct binding. Molecular docking and point mutation experiments identified two key binding sites for sinensetin to Coa as R73A-Coa and R204A-Coa. In vivo studies on mice revealed that sinensetin not only reduced lung tissue damage caused by S. aureus infection, but also decreased inflammatory factors in the lung lavage fluid. Furthermore, combining sinensetin with oxacillin improved the survival rates of the Galleria mellonella and mice. CONCLUSIONS: Sinensetin is a promising natural compound that acts as a direct inhibitor of Coa against S. aureus infections.

RESUMEN

AIM: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are more susceptible to endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular disease (CV). Remote ischemic preconditioning (rIPC) has been proven efficient in improving endothelial function and lowering the risk of CV. However, the safety and effect of rIPC on endothelial function in patients with CKD have not been effectively assessed. METHODS: 45 patients with CKD (average estimated glomerular filtration rate: 48.4 mL/min/1.73 m2) were randomly allocated to either 7-day daily upper-arm rIPC (4 × 5 min 200 mmHg, interspaced by 5-min reperfusion) or control (4 × 5 min 60 mmHg, interspaced by 5-min reperfusion). Vascular endothelial function was assessed by natural log-transformed reactive hyperemia index (LnRHI) before and after a 7-day intervention. Arterial elasticity was assessed by augmentation index (AI). RESULTS: The results showed that LnRHI could be improved by rIPC treatment (Pre = 0.57 ± 0.04 vs. Post = 0.67 ± 0.04, p = .001) with no changes relative to control (Pre = 0.68 ± 0.06 vs. Post = 0.64 ± 0.05, p = .470). Compared with the control group, the improvement of LnRHI was greater after rIPC treatment (rIPC vs. Control: 0.10 ± 0.03 vs. -0.04 ± 0.06, between-group mean difference, -0.15 [95% CI, -0.27 to -0.02], p = .027), while there was no significant difference in the change of AI@75 bpm (p = .312) between the two groups. CONCLUSION: RIPC is safe and well tolerated in patients with CKD. This pilot study suggests that rIPC seems to have the potential therapeutic effect to improve endothelial function. Of note, further larger trials are still warranted to confirm the efficacy of rIPC in improving endothelial function in CKD patients.

RESUMEN

Underwriters play a pivotal role in the IPO process. Information entropy, a tool for measuring the uncertainty and complexity of information, has been widely applied to various issues in complex networks. Information entropy can quantify the uncertainty and complexity of nodes in the network, providing a unique analytical perspective and methodological support for this study. This paper employs a bipartite network analysis method to construct the relationship network between underwriters and accounting firms, using the centrality of underwriters in the network as a measure of their influence to explore the impact of underwriters' influence on the distribution of interests and audit outcomes. The findings indicate that a more pronounced influence of underwriters significantly increases the ratio of underwriting fees to audit fees. Higher influence often accompanies an increase in abnormal underwriting fees. Further research reveals that companies underwritten by more influential underwriters experience a decline in audit quality. Finally, the study reveals that a well-structured audit committee governance and the rationalization of market sentiments can mitigate the negative impacts of underwriters' influence. The innovation of this paper is that it enriches the content related to underwriters by constructing the relationship network between underwriters and accounting firms for the first time using a bipartite network through the lens of information entropy. This conclusion provides new directions for thinking about the motives and possibilities behind financial institutions' cooperation, offering insights for market regulation and policy formulation.

RESUMEN

A normal phosphorylation state is essential for the function of proteins. Biased regulation frequently results in morbidity, especially for the hyperphosphorylation of oncoproteins. The hyperphosphorylation of ASK1 at Thr838 leads to a persistently high activity state, which accelerates the course of gastric cancer. Under normal conditions, PP5 specifically dephosphorylates p-ASK1T838 in cells, thereby weakening ASK1 to a low-basal activity state. However, in tumor types, PP5 shows low activity with a self-inhibition mechanism, making p-ASK1T838 remain at a high level. Thus, we aim to design phosphatase recruitment chimeras (PHORCs) through a proximity-mediated effect for specifically accelerating the dephosphorylation of p-ASK1T838. Herein, we describe DDO3711 as the first PP5-recruiting PHORC, which is formed by connecting a small molecular ASK1 inhibitor to a PP5 activator through a chemical linker, to effectively decrease the level of p-ASK1T838 in vitro and in vivo. DDO3711 shows preferable antiproliferative activity (IC50 = 0.5 µM) against MKN45 cells through a direct binding and proximity-mediated mechanism, while the ASK1 inhibitor and the PP5 activator, used alone or in combination, exhibit no effect on MKN45 cells. Using DDO3711, PHORCs are identified as effective tools to accelerate the dephosphorylation of POIs and provide important evidence to achieve precise phosphorylation regulation, which will promote confidence in the further regulation of abnormally phosphorylated oncoproteins.

RESUMEN

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum T1 is an isolated probiotic lactic acid bacterium (LAB) from pickled vegetables in Chongqing, China. In this study, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity and the underlying mechanisms of L. plantarum T1 cell-free supernatant (CFS) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated murine RAW264.7 macrophages in vitro. Reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), immunofluorescence, Griess methods, and western blotting were utilized to assess the anti-inflammatory cytokines and antioxidative effect of L. plantarum T1 CFS. Our results showed that L. plantarum T1 CFS pretreatment significantly reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, including nitric oxide, inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, tumor necrosis factor, interleukin (IL)-1ß, and IL-6, as well as reactive oxygen species. Interestingly, L. plantarum T1 CFS unregulated the antioxidant indicators, including superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione in RAW264.7 cells. Furthermore, L. plantarum T1 CFS activated the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. This study showed the excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of L. plantarum T1 through multiple pathways, highlighting its potential for further research and application as a probiotic strain.IMPORTANCEL. plantarum T1 stood out in a series of acid and bile salt tolerance and bacterial inhibition tests as a probiotic isolated from paocai, which provides many health benefits to the host by inhibiting the growth of harmful pathogenic microorganisms and suppressing excessive levels of oxidative stress and inflammation. Not all LAB have good probiotic functions and are used in various applications. The anti-inflammatory antioxidant potential and mechanisms of L. plantarum T1 CFS have not been described and reported. By using RT-qPCR, Griess method, and western blotting, we showed that L. plantarum T1 CFS had anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Griess assay, TBA assay, WST-8 assay, immunofluorescence assay, RT-qPCR, and western blotting data revealed that its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant mechanisms were associated with oxidative stress and NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of L. plantarum T1 CFS in paocai generates opportunities for probiotic product development.

RESUMEN

A large-scale survey was conducted by measuring five organophosphite antioxidants (OPAs) and three novel organophosphate esters (NOPEs) in 139 dust samples across China. The median summed concentrations of OPAs and NOPEs in outdoor dust were 33.8 ng/g (range: 0.12-53,400 ng/g) and 7990 ng/g (2390-27,600 ng/g), respectively. The dust concentrations of OPAs associated with the increasing economic development and population density from western to eastern China, whereas the NOPE concentration in Northeast China (median, 11,900 ng/g; range, 4360-16,400 ng/g) was the highest. Geographically, the distribution of NOPEs was significantly associated with annual sunshine duration and precipitation at each sampling site. Results of laboratory experiments further revealed that the simulated sunlight irradiation promoted the heterogeneous phototransformation of OPAs in dust, and this process was accelerated with the existence of reactive oxygen species and enhanced relative humidity. Importantly, during this phototransformation, the hydroxylated, hydrolyzed, dealkylated, and methylated products, e.g., bis(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) methyl phosphate, were identified by nontargeted analysis, part of which were estimated to be more toxic than their parent compounds. The heterogeneous phototransformation pathway of OPAs was suggested accordingly. For the first time, the large-scale distribution of OPAs and NOPEs and the phototransformation of these "new chemicals" in dust were revealed.

RESUMEN

A total of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in 28 soil column samples from two contaminated industrial sites in Eastern China. The total concentration of 16 PAHs (∑PAHs) in the surface soil (0-20 cm) was measured up to 52,600 ng/g (dry weight basis) with a remarkable spatial difference in the studied contaminated sites. The concentrations of the ∑PAHs in soils decreased with the increase in soil depth (0-10 m). The surface and subsurface soil presented a tenfold higher concentration than the soil with depth greater than 4 m. Additionally, the vertical migration tendency of the PAHs was found to be correlated significantly with their hydrophobicity (R2 = 0.79, P < 0.01). Naphthalene (with lowest octanol-water partition coefficient among the studied PAHs) showed the greatest average soil depth at which its peak concentration occurred. Furthermore, risk quotient analysis by using benzo[a]pyrene as reference compound showed that 71.4% of the samples exhibited high ecological risk for soil. Moreover, the total carcinogenic risk of the PAHs in the surface soil samples was assessed at 5.61 × 10-5-1.28 × 10-4 and 4.41 × 10-6-9.43 × 10-5 for male and female workers, respectively, in which 67.9%-71.4% of the samples showed potential risk. Generally, these results suggest a further consideration of ecological and health risks associated with PAHs in contaminated sites in Eastern China.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the genetic etiology of a child with D bifunctional protein deficiency (DBPD) born to a consanguineous pedigree. METHODS: A child with DBPD who was admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College on January 6, 2022 due to hypotonia and global developmental delay was selected as the study subject. Clinical data of her pedigree members were collected. Peripheral blood samples of the child, her parents and elder sisters were collected and subjected to whole exome sequencing. Candidate variant was validated by Sanger sequencing and bioinformatic analysis. RESULTS: The child, a 2-year-and-9-month-old female, had featured hypotonia, growth retardation, unstable head lift, and sensorineural deafness. Serum long-chain fatty acids were elevated, and auditory brainstem evoked potentials had failed to elicit V waves in both ears with 90 dBnHL stimulation. Brain MRI revealed thinning of corpus callosum and white matter hypoplasia. The child's parents were secondary cousins. Their elder daughter had a normal phenotype and no clinical symptoms related to DBPD. Elder son had frequent convulsions, hypotonia and feeding difficulties after birth, and had died one and a half month later. Genetic testing revealed that the child had harbored homozygous c.483G>T (p.Gln161His) variants of the HSD17B4 gene, for which both of her parents and elder sisters were carriers. Based on the guidelines from the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, the c.483G>T (p.Gln161His) was rated as a pathogenic variant (PM1+PM2_Supporting+PP1+PP3+PP4). CONCLUSION: The homozygous c.483G>T (p.Gln161His) variants of the HSD17B4 gene caused by the consanguineous marriage probably underlay the DBPD in this child.

RESUMEN

Soil contamination by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) has raised great environmental concerns. However, the information on national wide distribution of PAHs in soil as well as their effect on soil bacterial community are limited. In this study, 16 PAHs were measured in 94 soil samples collected across China. The total concentration of 16 PAHs (∑PAHs) in soil ranged from 74.0 to 17,657 ng/g (dry weight basis), with a median value of 200 ng/g. Pyrene was the major soil PAH, with a median concentration of 71.3 ng/g. Soil samples from Northeast China had a higher median concentration of ∑PAHs (1,961 ng/g) than those from other regions. Petroleum emission and wood/grass/coal combustion were potential sources for soil PAHs based on diagnostic ratios and positive matrix factors analysis. A nonnegligible ecological risk (hazard quotients > 1) was found in over 20% of soil samples analyzed and the highest median total HQs value (8.53) was found in soils from Northeast China. The effect of PAHs on bacterial abundance, α-diversity, and ß-diversity was limited in the soils surveyed. Nevertheless, the relative abundance of some members in genera Gaiella, Nocardioides, and Clostridium was significantly correlated with the concentrations of some PAHs. Especially, the bacterium Gaiella Occulta showed potential in indicating soil contamination by PAH, which is worth further exploration.

RESUMEN

Heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) is an indispensable molecular chaperone that facilitates the maturation of numerous oncoproteins in cancer cells, including protein kinases, ribonucleoproteins, steroid hormone receptors, and transcription factors. Although over 30 HSP90 inhibitors have steadily entered clinical trials, further clinical advancement has been restricted by their limited efficacy, inevitable heat shock response, and multiple side-effects, likely induced via an ATP inhibition mechanism. Since both ATP and various co-chaperones play essential roles in the HSP90 chaperone cycle to achieve integrated function, optimal therapeutics require an understanding of the dynamic interactions among HSP90, ATP, and cochaperones. To date, continuous research has promoted the exploration of the cochaperone cell division cycle 37 (CDC37) as a kinase-specific recognizer and has shown that the HSP90-CDC37-kinase complex is particularly relevant in cancers. Indeed, disrupting the HSP90-CDC37-kinase complex, rather than totally blocking the ATP function of HSP90, is emerging as an alternative way to avoid the limitations of current inhibitors. In this review, we first briefly introduce the HSP90-CDC37-kinase cycle and present the currently available approaches for inhibitor development targeting this cycle and provide insights into selective regulation of the kinase clients of HSP90 by more directional ways.

RESUMEN

Temperate woody plants in the Northern Hemisphere have long been known to exhibit high species richness in East Asia and North America and significantly lower diversity in Europe, but the causes of this pattern remain debated. Here, we quantify the roles of dispersal, niche evolution, and extinction in shaping the geographic diversity of the temperate woody plant family Juglandaceae (walnuts and their relatives). Integrating evidence from molecular, morphological, fossil, and (paleo)environmental data, we find strong support for a Boreotropical origin of the family with contrasting evolutionary trajectories between the temperate subfamily Juglandoideae and the tropical subfamily Engelhardioideae. Juglandoideae rapidly evolved frost tolerance when the global climate shifted to ice-house conditions from the Oligocene, with diversification at high latitudes especially in Europe and Asia during the Miocene. Subsequent range contraction at high latitudes and high levels of extinction in Europe driven by global cooling led to the current regional disparity in species diversity. Engelhardioideae showed temperature conservatism while adapting to increased humidity, tracking tropical climates to low latitudes since the middle Eocene with comparatively little diversification, perhaps due to high competition in the tropical zone. The biogeographic history of Juglandaceae shows that the North Atlantic land bridge and Europe played more critical roles than previously thought in linking the floras of East Asia and North America, and showcases the complex interplay among climate change, niche evolution, dispersal, and extinction that shaped the modern disjunct pattern of species richness in temperate woody plants. [Boreotropical origin; climatic niche evolution; disjunct distribution; dispersal; diversity anomaly; extinction; Juglandaceae.].

RESUMEN

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are widely used around the world as flame retardants and plasticizers with a growing production in the last 15 years due to the phase-out of polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Multiple papers reported the occurrences of OPEs in various environmental matrices and elevated concentrations of OPEs (0.1-10,000 ng/g dry weight) were documented in different types of soils which were regarded as both the "sink" and "source" of OPEs. In this study, the source, transfer, and transformation mechanisms of OPEs are systematically reviewed from the perspective of the soil environment. The wet/dry deposition, air-soil exchange, sewage irrigation, sludge application, and indirect oxidization of organophosphate antioxidants are the possible sources of OPEs in soil. Meanwhile, the OPEs in the soil environment may also migrate into other environmental media via plant uptake, air-soil exchange, desorption, and infiltration to cause relevant ecological risk, which depends much on the chemical properties of these compounds. The trimethylphenyl phosphate (TMPP) (mixture of isomers) and triphenyl phosphate (TPHP), which have strong hydrophobicity, pose a higher ecological risk for the soil environment than other OPEs. Further, the hydrolysis, indirect photolysis, and biodegradation of OPEs in the soil environment may be affected by the soil pH, organic acid, dissolved metals and metal oxides, active oxygen species, and microorganisms significantly. Besides that, the human exposure risks of OPEs from the soil are limited compared to those via indoor dust and food ingestion pathways. Finally, this study identifies the knowledge gaps and generated the future perspectives of the OPEs in soil.

RESUMEN

Biogas slurry (BS) and hydrothermal carbonization aqueous products (HAP), which are rich in nitrogen (N) and dissolved organic matter (DOM), can be used as organic fertilizer to substitute inorganic N fertilizer. To evaluate the effects of co-application of BS and HAP on the ammonia (NH3) volatilization and soil DOM content in wheat growth season, we compared six treatments that substituting 50%, 75%, and 100% of urea-N with BS plus HAP at low (L) or high (H) ratio, named BCL50, BCL75, BCL100, BCH50, BCH75, BCH100, respectively. Meanwhile, urea alone treatment was set as the control (CKU). The results showed that both BCL and BCH treatments significantly mitigate the NH3 volatilizations by 9.1%-45.6% in comparison with CKU (P < 0.05), whose effects were correlated with soil NH4+-N content. In addition, the decrease in soil urease activity contributed to the lower NH3 volatilization following application of BS plus HAP. Notably, BS plus HAP applications increased the microbial byproduct- and humic acid-like substances in soil by 9.9%-74.5% and 100.7%-451.9%, respectively. Consequently, BS and HAP amended treatments significantly increased soil humification index and DOM content by 13.7%-41.2% and 38.4%-158.7%, respectively (P < 0.05). This study suggested that BS and HAP could be co-applied into agricultural soil as a potential alternative of inorganic fertilizer N, which can decrease NH3 loss but increase soil fertility.

RESUMEN

Phthalates (PAEs) are widely used plasticizers drawing increasing concern due to reproductive toxicity. However, studies on serum PAEs metabolites (mPAEs) and their associations with human ovarian function remain very scarce. In this study, from April 2019 to August 2020, a total of 297 women of childbearing age were recruited in Tianjin, China. Eleven mPAEs were analyzed in serum samples and eight mPAEs were detected at frequencies > 65% with median concentrations of 0.43-15.3 ng/mL. In multinomial logistic analysis, an increase in serum mono (2-isobutyl) phthalate (miBP) was associated with decline in antral follicle count (AFC) (OR=1.26, 95% CI: 0.99, 1.61) and 5-mono-(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (mEHHP) was significantly associated with AFC increase (OR=1.43, 95% CI: 1.06, 1.92), which were aligned with the associations found between mPAEs and AMH through generalized linear regression. In multiple linear regression models, per 10% increase in serum mono (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (mEHP), mono (2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate (mEOHP) (oxo-mEHP), and principal component 1 featured for high concentrations of mono-n-butyl phthalate (mBP), miBP and mEHP were associated with 0.15 (95% CI: -0.29, -0.02), 0.01 (95% CI: -0.01, 0.00) and 0.01 (95% CI: -0.02, 0.00) ln-unit decrease in estradiol (E2) levels, respectively, while mono-[(2-carboxymethyl) hexyl] phthalate (mCMHP) (carboxymethyl-mEHP) was positively associated with 0.05 ln-unit increase of E2 (95% CI: 0.02, 0.08). The observed negative associations between mPAEs and the Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) also aligned with the change in AFC. Generalized linear regression also revealed nonlinear associations between mono-ethyl phthalate (mEP), mCMHP and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Overall, serum mEHP and its metabolites were negatively associated with E2. miBP was negatively associated with AFC. The nonlinear associations between mPAEs and FSH, and AMH need further study.

RESUMEN

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays a critical role in the global carbon cycle and provides food and energy for aquatic organisms. Recently, hydrochar, as a solid carbonaceous substance derived from hydrothermal carbonization, has been increasingly used as a soil amendment. Upon entering the soil, dissolved components (DHCs) were released from hydrochar as exogenous DOM, finally entering the aquatic ecosystems by runoff, which participates in environmental geochemical processes. However, relevant reports revealing the response of the aquatic ecosystem to the input of DHCs remain insufficiently elucidated. For the first time, the fundamental features of DHCs and their influence on water quality and aquatic biological function were investigated in this study. DHCs at 260 °C (DHC260) had lower yields, a greater [C/N], worse biodegradability, and larger humic acid relative amounts than did DHCs at 180 °C (DHC180). The DHC structural alterations in periphyton-incubated aquatic ecosystems suggested that protein substances were more easily degraded or assimilated by periphyton, especially for DHC180, with rates of decrease of 34.5-63.5%. The increased chemical oxygen demand (COD) degradation in the DHC260 treatments was most likely due to humic acid substances with higher COD equivalents. Furthermore, DHC260 caused phosphorus to accumulate in periphyton, reducing aquatic phosphorus concentration. Notably, the abundances of Flavobacteria and Cyanobacteria associated with water blooms increased 12.7-25.5- and 1.3-8.3-fold, respectively; consequently, the promotional impact of DHCs on algal blooms should be considered. This result extends the nonnegligible role of DHCs in aquatic ecosystems and underlines the need to regulate the hydrochar application process.

RESUMEN

Given the great importance of cobalt catalysts supported by benchmark bis(imino)pyridine in the (oligo)polymerization, a series of dibenzopyran-incorporated symmetrical 2,6-bis(imino) pyridyl cobalt complexes (Co1-Co5) are designed and prepared using a one-pot template approach. The structures of the resulting complexes are well characterized by a number of techniques. After activation with either methylaluminoxane (MAO) or modified MAO (MMAO), the complexes Co1-Co4 are highly active for ethylene polymerization with a maximum activity of up to 7.36 × 106 g (PE) mol-1 (Co) h-1 and produced highly linear polyethylene with narrow molecular weight distributions, while Co5 is completely inactive under the standard conditions. Particularly, complex Co3 affords polyethylene with high molecular weights of 85.02 and 79.85 kg mol-1 in the presence of MAO and MMAO, respectively. The 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy revealed the existence of vinyl end groups in the resulting polyethylene, highlighting the predominant involvement of the ß-H elimination reaction in the chain-termination process. To investigate the mechanism underlying the variation of catalytic activities as a function of substituents, multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis was performed, showing the key role of open cone angle (θ) and effective net charge (Q) on catalytic activity.
