RESUMEN

The previous studies have shown that iron-manganese co-oxide film (MeOx) could simultaneously remove ammonium, manganese ion and bisphenol A. In this study, the removal of fulvic acid (FA) was explored by adding potassium ferrate (K2FeO4) to heighten the catalytic activity of MeOx. After adding about 3.0 mg/L potassium ferrate, the elimination efficiency of 7.0 mg/L FA by the MeOx increased from 20 to 50%. The effects of temperature and ammonium on the elimination of FA were investigated. Higher temperature (above 22 °C) and higher ammonium concentration (above 2.0 mg/L) caused a decrease in FA removal. Most of FA combined with the ferric hydroxide colloid produced by K2FeO4 in water to form macromolecular groups, and they were subsequently absorbed and covered on the surface of MeOx. Scanning electron microscope showed that more viscous flocs appeared on the surface of MeOx, and the film thickness became thicker. Electron energy-dispersive spectrometer analysis revealed a notable increased in the C-O element ratio and a significant decreased in the Mn-Fe element ratio on the surface of MeOx. From Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the content of transition metal carbonyl compounds increased in the surface of MeOx. XPS analysis confirmed that the presence of Fe3O4, FeO, Mn2O3 and Mn3O4 along with functional group substances of FA attached on the surface of MeOx. The removal mechanism of FA was studied.

RESUMEN

The Chinese equity market plummeted and was roiled in crisis with the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the first quarter of 2020, but it also exhibits great resilience when the pandemic is gradually under control in China. In this study, we try to quantify the influence of regional COVID-19 outbreaks in 31 provinces on the stock returns of local listed firms by using a difference-in-difference framework. To our limited knowledge, we are the first to study provincial equity market performance during the spread of COVID-19. We show that when there is a COVID-19 outbreak in a province, treated firms first underperform by daily lower returns of 0.54% but abruptly regain their value by daily higher returns of 0.76%. Even though strict lockdown restrictions deteriorate economic prosperity, negative effects on firm values are only temporary in a maximum 20-trading-day window. Our results are also robust when subsamples of provinces and companies are considered.

RESUMEN

Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) technology can be utilized to dramatically enhance NMR signal. In this paper, we report on the development of a self-constructed 5 T DNP spectrometer for liquid samples and the 13C DNP enhancement achieved with this spectrometer. The DNP spectrometer is comprised of a wide-bore superconducting magnet, a home-made console, a dual resonance probe and a self-built 140 GHz microwave source for the spectrometer. Specifically, a microwave source of traveling wave tube (TWT) amplifier has been developed, which can provide a maximum power output of 4.4 W and a wide frequency tuning range of 1 GHz. The excellent performance of our built liquid-state DNP spectrometer is verified by the observation of more than 100-fold DNP enhancement of the 13C NMR signal for liquid 13CCl4 sample. Our result shows the superiority of DNP technology in the liquid-state high-field NMR spectrometer.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) in bladder urothelial carcinoma (UC) and its clinical significance. METHODS: The expression of 5hmC in 21 cases of UC tissues and pericarcinous urinary tract epithelium was detected by immunohistochemical staining. Then the expression of 5hmC in the surgical resection of UC tissues in 92 cases was also surveyed. Non parametric U Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze the correlation between 5hmC expression and clinical data. Single factor survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier test. RESULTS: The expression of 5hmC in normal urinary tract epithelium and UC tissues was significantly different, but there was no significant difference in the expression of 5hmC between low and high grades of UC tissues as well as between different TNM grades. Kaplan-Meier single factor survival analysis showed that there was no significant correlation between the 5hmC expression level and the survival rate or the recurrence-free survival of UC patients. CONCLUSION: The expression level of 5hmC in UC tissues is significantly lower than that in pericarcinous urinary tract epithelium. There is no correlation between the 5hmC expression and the progression, prognosis and recurrence of UC.

RESUMEN

Currently, the reliable prognostic biomarkers for WHO grade II diffuse astrocytomas (DA) are still limited. We investigated the relations between the level of 5-Hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), an oxidated production of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) by the ten eleven translocated (TET) enzymes, and clinicopathological features of glioma patients. With an identified anti-5hmC antibody, we performed immunohistochemistry in 287 glioma cases. We detected that 5hmC variably reduced in most gliomas and 5hmC reduction was closely associated with higher pathological grades and shortened survival of glioma patients. In multivariate analysis, 5hmC had no independent prognostic value in the entire patient cohort. However, multivariate analysis within subtypes of gliomas revealed that 5hmC was still a prognostic marker confined to DA. In addition, we detected that IDH1 mutation by DNA sequencing was associated with favorable survival within DA. Lastly, we detected that the combination of 5hmC/KI67 was a useful prognostic marker for restratification of DA.
