RESUMEN
Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have manifested a remarkable potential for harvesting environmental energy and have the prospects to be utilized for various uses, for instance, self-powered sensing devices, flexible wearables, and marine corrosion protection. However, the potential for further development of TENGs is restricted on account of their low output power that in turn is determined by their surface charge density. The current review majorly focuses on the selection and optimization of triboelectric materials. Subsequently, various methods capable of enhancing the surface charge density of TENGs, including environmental regulation, charge excitation, charge pumping, electrostatic breakdown, charge trapping, and liquid-solid structure are comprehensively reviewed. Lastly, the review is concluded by highlighting the existing challenges in enhancing the surface charge density of TENGs and exploring potential opportunities for future research endeavors in this area.
RESUMEN
Flexible pressure sensors have attracted wide attention because of their applications in wearable electronic, human-computer interface, and healthcare. However, it is still a challenge to design a pressure sensor with adjustable sensitivity in an ultrawide response range to satisfy the requirements of different application scenarios. Here, a laser patterned graphene pressure sensor (LPGPS) is proposed with adjustable sensitivity in an ultrawide response range based on the pre-stretched kirigami structure. Due to the out-of-plane deformation of the pre-stretched kirigami structure, the sensitivity can be easily tuned by simply modifying the pre-stretched level. As a result, it exhibits a maximum sensitivity of 0.243 kPa-1, an ultrawide range up to 1600 kPa, a low detection limit (6 Pa), a short response time (42 ms), and excellent stability with high pressure of 1200 kPa over 500 cycles. Benefiting from its high sensitivity and ultrawide response range, the proposed sensor can be applied to detect physiological and kinematic signals under different pressure intensities. Additionally, taking advantage of laser programmable patterning, it can be easily configured into an array to determine the pressure distribution. Therefore, LPGPS with adjustable sensitivity in an ultrawide response range has potential application in wearable electronic devices.

Nostoc colonies have been used as food and medicine for centuries, and their main supporting matrix is polysaccharides, which help Nostoc cells resist various environmental stresses including oxidative stress. Here we isolated a polysaccharide, nostoglycan, from cultured Nostocsphaeroides colonies and determined its physicochemical properties, which revealed a characteristic infrared absorption spectrum typical of polysaccharides and an amorphous morphology with rough surfaces. We also show that nostoglycan has strong moisture absorption and retention capacities and a high relative viscosity. Using Caenorhabditis elegans models, we then demonstrate that nostoglycan is capable of improving overall survival rate of the animals under increased oxidative stress caused by paraquat. Nostoglycan also reduces reactive oxygen species level, inhibits protein carbonyl formation and lipid peroxidation, and increases activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase in paraquat-exposed nematodes. As oxidative stress may drive tumor progression, we further demonstrate that nostoglycan can suppress the proliferation of several types of tumor cells and induce apoptosis of human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells via caspase-3 activation. Together, our results yield important information on the physicochemical characteristics and demonstrate the antioxidant and anti-proliferative functions of nostoglycan, and thus provide an insight into its potential in food and health industries.

As the most important group in the flavor profiles of Chinese liquor, ester aroma chemicals are responsible for the highly desired fruity odors. Alcohol acetyltransferase (AATase), which is mainly encoded by ATF1, is one of the most important enzymes for acetate ester synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In this study, we overexpressed ATF1 in Chinese liquor yeast through precise and seamless insertion of PGK1 promoter (PGK1p) via a novel fusion PCR-mediated strategy. After two-step integration, PGK1p was embedded in the 5'-terminal of ATF1 exactly without introduction of any extraneous DNA sequence. In the liquid fermentation of corn hydrolysate, both mRNA level and AATase activity of ATF1 in mutant were pronounced higher than the parental strain. Meanwhile, productivity of ethyl acetate increased from 25.04 to 78.76 mg/l. The self-cloning strain without any heterologous sequences residual in its genome would contribute to further commercialization of favorable organoleptic characteristics in Chinese liquor.

Based on the background of urbanization in China, we used the dynamic spatial panel Durbin model to study the driving mechanism of ozone pollution empirically. We also analyzed the spatial distribution of ozone driving factors using the GTWR. The results show that: i) The average annual increase of ozone concentration in ambient air in China from 2015 to 2019 was 1.68µg/m3, and 8.39µg/m3 elevated the year 2019 compared with 2015. ii) The Moran's I value of ozone in ambient air was 0.027 in 2015 and 0.209 in 2019, showing the spatial distribution characteristics of "east heavy and west light" and "south low and north high". iii) Per capita GDP industrial structure, population density, land expansion, and urbanization rate have significant spillover effects on ozone concentration, and the regional spillover effect is greater than the local effect. R&D intensity and education level have a significant negative impact on ozone concentration. iv) There is a decreasing trend in the inhibitory effect of educational attainment and R&D intensity on ozone concentration, and an increasing trend in the promotional effect of population urbanization rate, land expansion, and economic development on ozone concentration. Empirical results suggest a twofold policy meaning: i) to explore the causes behind the distribution of ozone from the new perspective of urbanization, and to further the atmospheric environmental protection system and ii) to eliminate the adverse impacts of ozone pollution on nature and harmonious social development.

It is known that nanoplastics can cause membrane damage and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cyanobacteria, negatively impacting their photosynthetic reactions and growth. However, the synergistic effect of light intensity on nanoplastics' toxicity to cyanobacteria is rarely investigated. Here, we investigated the impact of nano-polystyrene particles (PS) and amino-modified nano-polystyrene particles (PS-NH2) on cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa cultivated under two light intensities. We discovered that PS-NH2 was more toxic to M. aeruginosa compared to PS with more damage of cell membranes by PS-NH2. The membrane damage was found by scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscopy. Under low light, PS-NH2 inhibited the photosynthesis of M. aeruginosa by decreasing the PSII quantum yield, photosynthetic electron transport rate and pigment content, but increasing non-photochemical quenching and Car/chl a ratio to cope with this stress condition. Moreover, high light appeared to increase the toxicity of PS-NH2 to M. aeruginosa by increasing its in vitro and intracellular ROS content. Specifically, on the one hand, high visible light (without UV) and PS-NH2 induced more in vitro singlet oxygen, hydroxyl radical and superoxide anion measured by electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer in vitro, which could be another new toxic mechanism of PS-NH2 to M. aeruginosa. On the other hand, high light and PS-NH2 might increase intracellular ROS by inhibiting more photosynthetic electron transfer and accumulating more excess energy and electrons in M. aeruginosa. This research broadens our comprehension of the toxicity mechanisms of nanoplastics to cyanobacteria under varied light conditions and suggests a new toxic mechanism of nanoplastics involving in vitro ROS under visible light, providing vital information for assessing ecotoxicological effects of nanoplastics in the freshwater ecosystem.

An analytical method to predict the elastic modulus of the sandwich body-centered cubic (BCC) lattice structure is presented on the basis of the assumption of a linearly changing elastic modulus. In the constrained region, the maximum of elastic modulus used the elastic moduli of the BCC lattice element with plate constraints and is calculated with Timoshenko beam theory, the minimum used without plate constraints. In the rest of the constrained region, a linear function along the thickness direction is proposed to calculate elastic modulus. The elastic modulus of the unconstrained region is constant and it is the same as the minimum of the constrained region. The elastic modulus of the whole sandwich BCC lattice structure can be calculated theoretically with the elastic modulus of the constrained and unconstrained regions and a single-layer slice integration method. Six kinds of sandwich BCC lattice structures with different geometric parameters are designed and made by resin 3D printing technology, and the elastic moduli are measured. By comparing the predictions of the elastic modulus using the proposed analytical method and existing method with experimental results, the errors between the results of the existing method and the experimental results varied from 10.3% to 24.7%, and the errors between the results of the proposed method and the experimental results varied from 1.6% to 7.4%, proving that the proposed method is more accurate than the existing methods.
RESUMEN
Developing green, environmental, sustainable new energy sources is an important problem to be solved in the world. Among the new energy technologies, water splitting system, fuel cell technology and metal-air battery technology are the main energy production and conversion methods, which involve three main electrocatalytic reactions, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The efficiency of the electrocatalytic reaction and the power consumption are very dependent on the activity of the electrocatalysts. Among various electrocatalysts, the two-dimensional (2D) materials have received widespread attention due to multiple advantages, such as their easy availability and low price. What' important is that they have adjustable physical and chemical properties. It is possible to develop them as electrocatalysts to replace the noble metals. Therefore, the design of two-dimensional electrocatalysts is a focus in the research area. Some recent advances in ultrasound-assisted preparation of two-dimensional (2D) materials have been overviewed according to the kind of materials in this review. Firstly, the effect of the ultrasonic cavitation and its applications in the synthesis of inorganic materials are introduced. The ultrasonic-assisted synthesis of representative 2D materials for example transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), graphene, layered double metal hydroxide (LDH), and MXene, and their catalytic properties as electrocatalysts are discussed in detail. For example, the CoMoS4 electrocatalysts have been synthesized through a facile ultrasound-assisted hydrothermal method. The obatined HER and OER overpotential of CoMoS4 electrode is 141 and 250 mV, respectively. This review points out some problems that need to be solved urgently at present, and provides some ideas for designing and constructing two-dimensional materials with better electrocatalytic performance.
RESUMEN
The composites with multiple types of nano-carbon fillers have better electrical conductivity and piezoresistive properties as compared with composites with a single type of nano-carbon fillers. As previously reported, the nano-carbon fillers with various aspect ratios, such as carbon nanotube (CNT) and carbon black (CB), have synergistic enhanced effects on the piezoresistive performance of composite sensors. However, most of the works that have been reported are experimental investigations. The efficient and usable numerical simulation investigation needs to be further developed. In this study, based on an integrated 3D statistical resistor network model, a numerical simulation model was created to calculate the piezoresistive behavior of the CNT/CB/ Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) composite. This model also takes into account the tunneling effect between nearby nano-fillers. It is found from numerical simulation results that the piezoresistive sensitivity of composite simulation cells can be influenced by the fraction of CNT and CB. In the case that the CNT content is 0.073 wt.%, the best force-electrical piezoresistive sensitivity can be achieved when the CB loading is up to 0.2 wt.%. To verify the validity of the simulation model, the previous experimental investigation results are also compared. The experimental results confirm the validity of the model. The investigation is valuable and can be utilized to design a strain sensor for this nano-composite with increased sensitivity.
RESUMEN
Considerable uncertainties in the mechanical properties of composites not only prevent them from having efficient applications but also threaten the safety and reliability of structures. In order to determine the uncertainty in the elastic properties of unidirectional CFRP composites, this paper develops a probabilistic analysis method based on a micromechanics theoretical model and the Monte Carlo simulation. Firstly, four commonly used theoretical models are investigated by calculating the deterministic elastic parameters of three unidirectional CFRP composites, which are compared with experimental outcomes. According to error analyses, the bridging model is the most brilliant one, with errors lower than 6%, which suggests that it can be used in probabilistic analyses. Furthermore, constituent parameters are regarded as normally distributed random variables, and the Monte Carlo simulation was used to obtain samplings based on the statistics of constituent parameters. The predicted probabilistic elastic parameters of the T800/X850 composite coincide with those from experiments, which verified the effectiveness of the developed probabilistic analysis method. According to the probabilistic analysis results, the statistics of the elastic parameters, the correlations between the elastic parameters, and their sensitivity to the constituent's properties are determined. The moduli E11, E22, and G12 of the T800/X850 composite follow the lognormal distribution, namely, ln(E11)~N[5.15, 0.0282], ln(E22)~N[2.15, 0.0242], and ln(G12)~N[1.48, 0.0382], whereas its Poisson's ratio, v12, obeys the normal distribution, namely, v12~N(0.33, 0.0122). Additionally, the correlation coefficients between v12 and E11/E22/G12 are small and thus can be ignored, whereas the correlation coefficients between any two of E11, E22, and G12 are larger than 0.5 and should be considered in the reliability analyses of composite structures. The developed probabilistic analysis method based on the bridging model and the Monte Carlo simulation is fast and reliable and can be used to efficiently evaluate the probabilistic properties of the elastic parameters of any unidirectional composite in the reliability design of structures in engineering practice.
RESUMEN
As the biggest black swan event of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly weakened the ability of corporate stakeholders to monitor companies on site. In this context, exploring whether the on-site supervision restrictions triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic affect management earnings forecast disclosure is crucial to protect investors' interests and promote the stable development of the capital market. Based on quarterly data of Chinese A-share listed companies' earnings forecasts, this paper finds that: First, when the company's registry region is more severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has less willingness to disclose its management earnings forecast. And those released forecasts tend to have lower qualities. Second, a higher level of media monitoring and a better legal environment can mitigate the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on both the willingness and the quality of management earnings forecast disclosure. Furthermore, mediating effect analysis shows that, the reduced on-site monitoring activities that were originally implemented by independent directors, institutional investors, and analysts during the epidemic period greatly limited stakeholders' monitoring efficiency, and thus cause significant influence on the disclosure of management earnings forecasts.
RESUMEN
Because of the unique nature and treatment concept of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), TCMs have been respected again since 70s of last century. The regulatory agencies of some developed countries (the FDA, EMA and Health Canada etc) have published new guidance/guidelines/directives in recent years, such as the botanical drug product guidance of the FDA, the evidence for quality of finished natural health products guidance of the Health Canada and the guideline on quality of herbal medicinal products/ traditional herbal medicinal products of the EMA etc. All of the regulatory agencies are willing to scientifically evaluate the herbal medicines and accept it as therapeutic product. This paper analyzed the history of herbal medicine regulation and the similarities and differences of the regulatory requirements of the European Union, the United States and Canada, proposed possible future direction of the international development of Chinese medicine from the perspective of global regulatory affairs.

Liver cancer is a major contributor to cancer-related death with poor survival for sufferers. Meanwhile, Hepatic B virus X protein (HBx) and XB130 are likely to participate in the pathogenesis of liver cancer. However, the detailed mechanism of HBx/XB130 in liver cancer remains to be further investigated. Our study explored the effects of HBx/XB130 on liver cancer progression. HBx and XB130 expression was detected by reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and Western blot. Overexpression of HBx and XB130 was found in liver cancer tissues and cells. Mechanistic study revealed that HBx could bind to and positively regulate XB130 in HepG2 cells. Subsequently, HBx expression was knocked down, while XB130 was overexpressed in HepG2 cells in order to observe the specific role of HBx/XB130 in liver cancer in vitro. Results of CCK-8, Transwell, wound healing, and colony formation assays suggested that HBx could mediate biological function of HepG2 cells by activating the XB130-mediated PI3K/AKT pathway. In summary, our data illustrate that inhibition of HBx effectively suppressed proliferation and metastasis and induced apoptosis of liver cancer cells, which might be partially reversed by XB130. HBx and XB130 may be potential targets for liver cancer pathogenesis.

Norfloxacin is one of the widely used antibiotics, often detected in aquatic ecosystems, and difficultly degraded in the environment. However, how norfloxacin affects the photosynthetic process of freshwater phytoplankton is still largely unknown, especially under varied light conditions. In this study, we investigated photosynthetic mechanisms of Microcystis aeruginosa in responses to antibiotic norfloxacin (0-50 µg/L) for 72 h under low (LL; 50 µmol photons m-2 s-1) and high (HL; 250 µmol photons m-2 s-1) growth light regimes. We found that environmentally related concentrations of norfloxacin inhibited the growth rate and operational quantum yield of photosynthesis system II (PSII) of M. aeruginosa more under HL than under LL, suggesting HL increased the toxicity of norfloxacin to M. aeruginosa. Further analyses showed that norfloxacin deactivated PSII reaction centers under both growth light regimes with increased minimal fluorescence yields only under HL, suggesting that norfloxacin not only damaged reaction centers of PSII, but also inhibited energy transfer among phycobilisomes in M. aeruginosa under HL. However, non-photosynthetic quenching decreased in the studied species by norfloxacin exposure under both growth light regimes, suggesting that excess energy might not be efficiently dissipated as heat. Also, we found that reactive oxygen species (ROS) content increased under norfloxacin treatments with a higher ROS content under HL compared to LL. In addition, HL increased the absorption of norfloxacin by M. aeruginosa, which could partly explain the high sensitivity to norfloxacin of M. aeruginosa under HL. This study firstly reports that light can strongly affect the toxicity of norfloxacin to M. aeruginosa, and has vitally important implications for assessing the toxicity of norfloxacin to aquatic microorganisms.

This work reports a facile method for fabricating superhydrophobic surface on copper plate by AgNO3 treatment and dodecyl mercaptan modification. The as-prepared superhydrophobic copper plate presents hierarchical and rough morphology composed of nanosheets and nanoparticleformed matrix. Meanwhile, long alkyl chains are assembled onto the rough surface successfully. Consequently, the copper plate is endowed with excellent superhydrophobic performance with a water contact angle of 156.8° and a rolling angle of ca. 3°. Moreover, the superhydrophobicity has long-term durability and excellent stability. Grounded on the strong water repellence, the resultant superhydrophobic copper plate surface exhibits multi-functions. The excellent performance can be well explained by "Cushion effect" and Capillary phenomena. As a result, water and corrosive species can be prevented from contacting with the copper plate surface, and contaminants can be taken away easily by the rolling water droplets. Meanwhile, the icing process of water is delayed on the superhydrophobic surface. Therefore, the superhydrophobic copper is endued with enhanced corrosion resistance, excellent self-cleaning and anti-icing performance. We believe that this facile method provides a simple and cost-effective process to improve the properties of copper plate, and which may see practical application of the superhydrophobic materials.
RESUMEN
Objectives: To evaluate the pharmacodynamical effects and pharmacological mechanism of Ginsenoside H dripping pills (GH) in chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) model rats. Methods: First, the CUMS-induced rat model was established to assess the anti-depressant effects of GH (28, 56, and 112 mg/kg) by the changes of the behavioral indexes (sucrose preference, crossing score, rearing score) and biochemical indexes (serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine) in Hippocampus. Then, the components of GH were identified by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-iron trap-time of flight-mass spectrometry (UPLC/IT-TOF MS). After network pharmacology analysis, the active ingredients of GH were further screened out based on OB and DL, and the PPI network of putative targets of active ingredients of GH and depression candidate targets was established based on STRING database. The PPI network was analyzed topologically to obtain key targets, so as to predict the potential pharmacological mechanism of GH acting on depression. Finally, some major target proteins involved in the predictive signaling pathway were validated experimentally. Results: The establishment of CUMS depression model was successful and GH has antidepressant effects, and the middle dose of GH (56 mg/kg) showed the best inhibitory effects on rats with depressant-like behavior induced by CUMS. Twenty-eight chemical components of GH were identified by UPLC/IT-TOF MS. Subsequently, 20(S)-ginsenoside Rh2 was selected as active ingredient and the PPI network of the 43 putative targets of 20(S)-ginsenoside Rh2 containing in GH and the 230 depression candidate targets, was established based on STRING database, and 47 major targets were extracted. Further network pharmacological analysis indicated that the cAMP signaling pathway may be potential pharmacological mechanism regulated by GH acting on depression. Among the cAMP signaling pathway, the major target proteins, namely, cAMP, PKA, CREB, p-CREB, BDNF, were used to verify in the CUMS model rats. The results showed that GH could activate the cAMP-PKA-CREB-BDNF signaling pathway to exert antidepressant effects. Conclusions: An integrative pharmacology-based pattern was used to uncover that GH could increase the contents of DA, NE and 5-HT, activate cAMP-PKA-CREB-BDNF signaling pathway exert antidepressant effects.
RESUMEN
Danshensu (3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) lactic acid) and salvianolic acid B, two natural phenolic acids of caffeic acid derivatives isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza root of the most widely used traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases, have been reported to have potential protective effects from oxidative injury. To better understand their biological functions, the in vitro radical scavenging and antioxidant activities of danshensu and salvianolic acid B were evaluated along with vitamin C. Both danshensu and salvianolic acid B exhibited higher scavenging activities against free hydroxyl radicals (HO()), superoxide anion radicals (O(2)(-)), 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radicals and 2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radicals than vitamin C. In contrary, danshensu and salvianolic acid B showed weaker iron chelating and hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) scavenging activities than vitamin C. As expressed as vitamin C equivalent capacity (VCEAC), the relative VCEAC values (mg/100ml) were in the order of salvianolic acid B (18.59) > danshensu (12.89) > vitamin C (10.00) by ABTS radical assay. The protective efficiencies against hydrogen peroxide induced human vein vascular endothelial cell damage were correlated with their antioxidant activities. Analysis of structure-activity relationship of these two compounds showed that the condensation and conjugation of danshensu and caffeic acid appears important for antioxidant activity. These results indicated that danshensu and salvianolic acid B are efficient radical scavengers and antioxidants, and salvianolic acid B is superior to danshensu. Their radical scavenging and antioxidant properties might have potential applications in food and healthcare industry.

BACKGROUND: The massive number of ingredients in traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) makes quality control very difficult. The concept of quality markers (Q-marker) was recently proposed to evaluate the quality of TCMs. Xuezhiling tablets (XZL) are widely used for the treatment of hyperlipidemia in China owing to its noticeable effectiveness and mild adverse effects, but there are no proper Q-markers for this Chinese patent medicine. PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to determine the Q-markers of XZL against hyperlipidemia through an integration of investigations on its lipid-lowering effect, metabolomics, content determination and pharmacokinetics. METHODS: XZL was prepared in accordance with the method described in the Chinese pharmacopoeia (Ch.P.). Hyperlipidemia was induced in rats through the administration of a high-fat diet (HFD). The hypolipidemic effect of XZL was investigated through the detection of the blood levels of total glyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). A metabolomics study was conducted to analyze the overall effects of XZL on the regulation of lipid metabolism. The main bioactive compounds of XZL were identified and determined in the XZL preparation and the medicated plasma of hyperlipidemic rats. RESULTS: XZL lowered the levels of TG, TC, and LDL-C through alterations of metabolic patterns. 2,3,5,4'-Tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside (THSG), chrysophanol-1-O-ß-glucopyranosyl-(1â3)-O-ß-D-glucopyranosy1-(1â6)-O-ß-D-glucopyranosyl-(1â6)-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside (SHJ), cassiaside, rubrofusarin gentiobioside, aurantio-obtusin, chryso-obtusin, and obtusinfolin were identified and determined both in the preparation and the blood of hyperlipidemic rats. CONCLUSION: SHJ, obtusinfolin, THSG, rubrofusarin gentiobioside, and aurantio-obtusin, which are more abundant in the preparation, leading to greater exposure in vivo, were suitable Q-markers to guarantee the medicinal quality of XZL and ensure the clinical effectiveness on hyperlipidemia.

There is a severe lack of aphasia screening tools for bedside use in Chinese. A number of aphasia assessment tools have recently been developed abroad, but some of these scales were not suitable for patients with acute stroke. The Language Screening Test (which includes two parallel versions [a/b]) in French has been proven to be an effective and time-saving aphasia screening scale for early-stage stroke patients. Therefore, we worked out a Chinese version of the LAST taking into consideration Chinese language and culture. Two preliminary parallel versions (a/b) were tested on 154 patients with stroke at acute phase and 107 patients with stroke at non-acute phase, with the Western Aphasia Battery serving as a gold standard. The equivalence between the two parallel versions and the reliability/validity of each version were assessed. The median time to complete one preliminary Chinese version (each had some item redundancy) was 98 seconds. Two final parallel versions were established after adjustment/elimination of the redundant items and were found to be equivalent (intra-class correlation coefficient: 0.991). Internal consistency is(Cronbach α for each version [a/b] was 0.956 and 0.965, respectively) good. Internal validity was fine: (a) no floor or ceiling effect/item redundancy; (b) construct validity revealed a 1-dimension structure, just like the French version. The higher educated subjects scored higher than their lower educated counterparts (p<0.01). The external validity: at the optimum cut-off point where the score of version a/b <14 in higher educated group(<13 in lower): the specificity of each version was 0.878/0.902(1/1 in lower) and sensitivity was 0.972/0.944(0.944/0.944 in lower). Inter-rater equivalence (intra-class correlation coefficient) was 1. The Chinese version of the Language Screening Test was proved to be an efficient and time-saving bedside aphasia screening tool for stroke patients at acute phase and can be used by an average medical physician.
