RESUMO

Fabrication of magnetic nanocomposites containing iron oxide nanoparticles formed in situ within a phosphorus-containing polymer matrix as well as its structural characterization and its thermal degradation is reported here. Comparative structural studies of the parent polymer and nanocomposites were performed using FTIR spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, and atomic force microscopy. The results confirmed the presence of dispersed iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles in the polymer matrix. The formed composite combines the properties of porous polymer carriers and magnetic particles enabling easy separation and reapplication of such polymeric carriers used in, for example, catalysis or environmental remediation. Studies on thermal degradation of the composites revealed that the process proceeds in three stages while a significant influence of the embedded magnetic particles on that process was observed in the first two stages. Magnetic force microscopy studies revealed that nanocomposites and its calcinated form have strong magnetic properties. The obtained results provide a comprehensive characterization of magnetic nanocomposites and the products of their calcination that are important for their possible applications as sorbents (regeneration conditions, processing temperature, disposal, etc).

RESUMO

Analysed herein are the findings of examination and outcomes of surgical management of 43 patients presenting with crural postthrombotic disease. Of these, eighteen patients were diagnosed as having stage II chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and the remaining 25 had stage III CVI. All the patients had previously experienced acute thrombosis of deep crural veins. Eight patients had developed thrombosis during or in the immediate terms after typhoid fever, seven women in the postpartum period, and a further four women after endured operations on the organs of the abdominal cavity or small pelvis. Twelve patients had developed thrombosis after a blunt injury of the limb. In a further 12 cases, the causes of thrombosis coujinot be revealed or traced properly, thus having remained unknown. The disease duration varied form twelve months to nine years. Venous haemodynamics was studied by means of duplex scanning and phlebography, with the latter used if indicated. The prevailing role in making appropriate diagnosis was found to belong duplex scanning. Thirty-one patients were subjected to combined surgical procedures. Twelve subjects underwent single-stage operations. The main stage of the intervention in combined surgery consisted in resection of the anterior tibial vein and dissection of communicating veins of the medial surface of the crus according to the Savelyev-Konstantinova's technique; phlebectomy was performed on the crus only. The remote period was marked by a decrease in the CVI's severity, i.e., transition to a lesser-severity degree in eighteen patients (41.9 %), while in twenty-five cases (58.1 %) CVI remained at the baseline level. Totally, positive results were obtained in forty patients (93.0%). Three patients (7.0 %) initially presenting with grade C5-6 CVI and subjected to single-component operations were found to have poor outcomes. Surgical correction of the venous blood fl ow does by no means cure the patient but appears to result in persistent remission of the disease, with adequate rehabilitation after surgery leading to considerable regression of CVI.

RESUMO

The effect of nematodes Dictyocaulus (D) filaria on phospholipid (PL) composition in the homogenate of sheep lungs has been demonstrated. The comparative analysis has shown no differences in the content and composition of PL in the lungs of healthy sheep and in nematodes. Infection of sheep by helminths was found to result in changes in the PL composition of sheep lungs. Thus, it is possible to conclude that D. filaria affecting structural and functional systems of the host causes changes in its PL content.

RESUMO

The results of surgical treatment of patients with atherosclerotic occlusion of the lower extremities arteries have been analysed. In 29 of 45 patients with severe ischemia of the lower extremities regional circulation disorders of stage III and in 16 patients of stage IV (gangrene) were found. The preservation of the peripheral vascular bed served as an indication for operation. The effect of the surgery was assessed on the basis of the analysis of immediate and late results. The authors believe that an adequately performed restorative operation allows to obtain good late results in 70% of patients operated upon in stage III and in 50% of those operated upon in stage IV of regional circulation disorders.

RESUMO

An analysis of results of decompressive nephrostomy for obstructive purulent calculous pyelonephritis in 30 children has detected different complications aggravating the course of the disease and process of treatment. The authors propose a rational variant of operation--primary nephrolithotomia with nephrostomy. Operations were performed on 40 children. Immediate results of treatment were good in 30 children, satisfactory in 9 children. One patient died.
