RESUMO

Prosthetic eye implantation is a significant intervention for individuals facing ocular trauma or congenital defects. We present the case of an eight-year-old boy who underwent prosthetic eye implantation following enucleation due to a severe injury. The patient had suffered from impaired vision and psychological distress due to the visible absence of his natural eye. The prosthetic eye not only restored his facial symmetry but also revitalized his self-esteem and confidence. This case report highlights the successful outcome of prosthetic eye implantation in pediatric patients and underscores the importance of addressing both physical and psychological aspects of ocular trauma in young individuals.

In order to effectively address challenges related to anterior teeth restoration and achieve natural-looking results, considerations such as shape, size, gingival contour, and color are crucial. Due to an increasing desire for visually appealing alternatives that are free of metal, materials such as dental zirconia have become popular because of their superior aesthetics and mechanical characteristics. This case report presents clinical insights into anterior teeth rehabilitation with the use of layered zirconia fixed dental prostheses. It delves into the experiences associated with zirconia dental restorations on both endodontically treated and vital abutments, aiming to discern how various factors influence treatment outcomes. Beginning with the design of the restoration, its intricacies significantly impact its fit, strength, and overall durability. Moreover, the composition of zirconia used plays a pivotal role, as different formulations offer varying degrees of mechanical properties, influencing factors such as resilience and wear resistance. The shade selection is also scrutinized, as it directly affects the restoration's aesthetic integration with surrounding natural teeth, contributing to a more harmonious smile. Furthermore, the layering technique employed, particularly when additional porcelain or ceramic layers are applied, is essential for both cosmetic enhancement and structural integrity. Lastly, considerations of occlusion are paramount, ensuring proper alignment and contact between teeth to prevent premature wear and discomfort. By exploring these facets in zirconia restorations across different abutment types, this inquiry seeks to illuminate best practices for achieving favorable treatment outcomes in dental restoration procedures. The choice of zirconia composition, framework design, and shade must be carefully tailored to suit the characteristics of each individual abutment. This emphasizes the significance of adopting a tailored approach to tackle the distinct challenges posed by every clinical scenario. The manuscript provides detailed observations from a clinical case involving the restoration of anterior teeth utilizing monolithic zirconia-fixed dental prostheses. Through a combination of root canal treatment and composite buildup, successful restoration was achieved, with meticulous attention paid to aesthetic considerations. The utilization of computer-aided designing/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology in crafting zirconia restorations ensured precise fit and superior biocompatibility, contributing to the overall success of the treatment. The study underscores the importance of personalized treatment strategies in achieving optimal outcomes in anterior teeth restoration, emphasizing the need for careful consideration of various factors such as design, composition, and shade selection. The absence of any organ of the facial region causes an asymmetrical appearance. This asymmetrical appearance can cause social dilemmas for the patient. The maxillofacial technician, the prosthodontist, and the patient must work closely together to fabricate an epithesis. On the implants, a superstructure is first constructed. Most of it is made up of rings and a bar that joins the implants. The firm acrylic resin base of the epithesis is equipped with clips that serve as the epithesis's retention mechanism. The actual epithesis is made of silicone rubber. The epithesis has to be shaped and colored with extreme caution. An appropriate substitute is an auricular prosthesis that is implant-retained. Microtia, deformity, malformation, and loss of the external ear, either partially or completely, can result from a variety of inherited genetic conditions. To evaluate the symmetry of both ears, artificial intelligence (AI) software is used. An Instagram lens Gridset by crystalwavesxx was used to correct and verify the bilateral symmetry of the patient. This case report primarily focuses on the fabrication of implant-supported auricular prostheses using AI.

Aesthetics are one of the primary goals of restorative care. Teeth that are traumatized in the anterior maxilla usually avulse or require extraction due to fractures. Rehabilitation is challenging in such a therapeutic state since it presents several anatomical and aesthetic issues. There are circumstances in which traditional implant placement is problematic. There must be enough bone for implant placement to be uneventful and successful. Other surgical therapies may be necessary in addition to implant placement for certain operations, such as extensive grafting, direct or indirect sinus lifts, and nerve lateralization. Certain procedures are required for these operations but are not always achievable. Because single-piece basal implants provide immediate temporization and loading while receiving adequate anchoring from the basal cortical bone, they have been extensively used to rehabilitate resorbed ridges. This case report demonstrates the placement of the basal implant in the anterior zone.

Tooth loss and subsequent complete denture rehabilitation can profoundly affect a patient's psychological and social well-being. Dentures play an important role in helping individuals regain a sense of normalcy as well as facilitating communication in today's appearance-conscious society. However, common issues with dentures include discomfort while chewing and dissatisfaction with esthetics and speech. Prosthetic rehabilitation for complete denture patients should aim not just at replacing missing teeth but at fully restoring masticatory functions and appearance. This article outlines a simple, economical, and esthetically pleasing approach to rehabilitating patients with complete dentures, particularly those with resorbed ridges and with difficulty in phonetics. The focus is on comprehensively restoring the patient's orofacial complex.

Cast metal restorations have been a cornerstone in restorative dentistry for decades, providing durable and reliable solutions for restoring damaged teeth. This case report explores the evolution of cast metal restoration techniques, highlighting recent advancements and their implications in modern dental practice involving indirect cast metal onlay restoration as a successful treatment option that involves the replacement of the tooth cusp and reinforcement of the tooth through indirect restoration. Historically, cast metal restorations, commonly fabricated from alloys such as gold, have offered superior mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and longevity compared to other materials. However, concerns regarding esthetics and cost have prompted the development of alternative materials such as ceramics and composite resins. Nonetheless, cast metal restorations remain indispensable for certain clinical scenarios, particularly in cases of extensive damage or high occlusal forces.

The ill-fitting and unstable complete denture prosthesis is the most commonly faced problem by patients with compromised resorbed ridge. The retention, support, and stability of dentures are compromised in severely resorbed ridges, leading to difficulty in mastication and swallowing. The flabby tissue can be managed by using appropriate mucostatic impression techniques, and severely resorbed ridges can be managed by the coordination of a complete denture prosthesis with the neuromuscular function using a neutral zone for the arrangement of artificial teeth. This case report presents a combination of the Hobkirk technique and the neutral zone concept for the rehabilitation of the flabby tissue and severely resorbed alveolar ridge.

The most frequent reasons why people lose their teeth are trauma, dental caries, developmental defects, and genetic abnormalities. Dental implants have become a popular alternative to traditional dentures and bridges due to their ability to restore function through osseointegration. This case report presents a 35-year-old male with a two-year history of a missing lower right molar due to caries. With no systemic health issues or harmful habits, the patient underwent dental implant placement after a thorough evaluation and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis. A parallel-sided, threaded implant was placed in the 46 region. Postoperative care included antibiotics, analgesics, and follow-up visits. Second-stage surgery was done, which was followed by impression-making and healing abutment placement. The final crown was cemented with careful occlusion verification. The patient exhibited excellent healing and was scheduled for regular follow-ups to ensure successful implant integration and function restoration.

Cranioplasty is a common surgical procedure used to restore the shape of the calvaria. Autogenous bone flaps provide biological repair with the least morbidity to the donor location. One method for reusing bone autograft during cranioplasty involves low-temperature preservation followed by autoclaving. According to the literature, there was a good to modest improvement in the skull's symmetry, cosmesis, scars, and contour. It was determined that autoclaved frozen autogenous cerebral bone flaps are a safe and reliable method of cranioplasty. Despite its apparent simplicity, cranioplasty has been found to carry a relatively high complication rate, ranging from 12% to 50%, which starkly contrasts with the standard elective craniotomy, with a complication rate typically ranging from 24% to 60%. Complications associated with autogenous bone flap procedures are varied. The presented case report primarily focuses on the duplication of autogenous bone flaps by using clear polymethyl methacrylate.

A flabby ridge is a hyperplastic and movable soft tissue that affects both maxillary and mandibular ridges most commonly the maxillary anterior region. This tissue that supports the denture is dynamic and can be dislodged by masticatory pressures, which affects denture stability and causes a loss of peripheral seal. The mobile tissue may be distorted as a result of forces applied during the impression-making process. For dental practitioners, fabricating dentures on a flabby ridge might be a Herculean endeavor because the dentures may not be stable and may not yield satisfactory outcomes. When treating such patients, practitioners should use extra caution. While treating such circumstances, adjustments to standard impression processes can be helpful. There are several ways to address flabby ridges, such as implant therapy, balanced occlusal load distribution, surgical management, and unique impression techniques. In this case report, a patient with a flabby ridge is treated prosthodontically via an alternative impression approach.

Congenital clefts impair function and appearance, thus impacting a patient's social and mental health. A multidisciplinary team that can offer comprehensive treatment from infancy through maturity and beyond can successfully address these abnormalities. Dental rehabilitation is very important for these patients; these abnormalities should be identified and must be treated accordingly. Hence it is of utmost importance to know the success rate and changes in quality of life from patient satisfaction in order to plan future treatment goals when coming across such cases. The aim of this article is to determine success rate, esthetics, and patient satisfaction in implant-based oral rehabilitation in bone-grafted regions of cleft patients. Registration was carried out in PROSPERO (International Prospective Register of Systematic Review) with registration number CRD42022329861 on May 7, 2022. Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms such as cleft lip, cleft palate, survival rate, and dental implants were used to handpick articles via an electronic database. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed to compile all the data gathered from an electronic database. According to the collected data, 93.5% of the survival rate with dental implants was noted irrespective of the type of bone grafts used. Also, improvement in quality of life was achieved in these patients. Effectiveness, esthetics, and success rate are very well achievable with implants in cleft patients. Although the aesthetics are not equivalent to that of dental implants in normal patients, patient satisfaction is still satisfactory in patients with dental implants in bone-grafted regions of cleft lip and palate.

An absence or any disfigurement to the eye leads to psychological handicap for the patient. An ocular defect is a defect of an eye because of a cyst, road traffic accident, or enucleation of an eye due to infection. While correcting this type of defect, maxillofacial prosthodontists should consider all aspects such as esthetics, comfort, and functions of the ocular prosthesis, which gives a lifelike appearance to the prosthesis. A prosthetic eye wearer patient complained of asymmetry and opaque appearance of the ocular prosthesis. The patient had lost his eye in a road traffic accident and has been wearing a prosthesis for 8-12 months but is not pleased with how the prosthesis looks. A novel prosthesis created by the use of sublimation transfer technology and three-dimensional printing to improve the esthetics exactly replicates the contralateral normal eye. In a proposed case report, an algorithm for the fabrication of customized ocular prostheses was improved. A smooth blend of conventional as well as digital methods is used to optimize the results.

The misplacement of implants represents an unfavorable complication in dental implant prostheses. Numerous instances necessitating restorative intervention, colloquially termed "rescue cases," encompass either novel occurrences or reconstructions of irreversible implant scenarios. A viable solution for addressing these prosthesis-related challenges is using cementable options. This issue is directly linked to improperly placed implants, which dentists find challenging to rectify due to the absence of angle-correcting abutments from manufacturers. In such situations, the preferred treatments involve either Implant Innovations' universal castable long abutment (UCLA) (Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, United States) or a customized abutment fashioned from the titanium alloy impression coping for the Core-Vent implant (Paragon, Calabasas, California, United States). The Department of Prosthodontics received a referral for a patient with an anterior implant that had been misplaced and required rehabilitation. This case report outlines the chosen treatment approach for an implant situated buccally.

Disfigurement of the face has a significant impact not only on the appearance and function but also on the psychological well-being of an individual. Due to tooth loss, various psychological problems can occur. Dentures can help patients regain a sense of normalcy and also boost their confidence to live in society. Complete denture restores phonetics, esthetics, and mastication. A 63-year-old male patient reported to the Department of Prosthodontics with the chief complaint of total loss of teeth and wanted to get treated for the same. The purpose of this article is to describe changes in impression techniques, dental material, methodologies in teeth setting, and novel approaches to enhance the esthetics to optimize the results in a final complete denture. To reestablish the patient's masticatory, apparatus steps of complete denture fabrication were revisited accompanied by the modern application of innovative techniques with the base of historical concept.

Objective The objective of this study was to determine the antimicrobial activity of type III gypsum at three different chloramine-T concentrations and to ascertain the most effective concentration to be added for optimum inhibitory activity against Candida albicans. Method Ten discs of type III gypsum were fabricated for each group. Standard type III gypsum without any disinfectant was used for the control group. For the experimental group, an admixture of chloramine-T and standard dental stone was employed in varying w/w concentrations (0.1%, 0.25%, and 0.5%). Discs were placed in a petri dish containing Sabouraud dextrose agar lawned with Candida albicans culture and incubated for 24 hours. The zone of inhibition created around the discs was measured and evaluated. Result The mean zone of inhibition (mean ± standard deviation) in the control group was 0 mm; 0.70±1.05 mm in group 1 (0.1% w/w concentration), 2.70 ± 2.35 mm in group 2 (0.25% w/w concentration), and 20.80 ± 1.68 mm in group 3 (0.5% w/w concentration). A one-way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference in the inhibition zone created around all groups (p < 0.05), with the discs of group 3 yielding the most positive results. Conclusion The addition of 0.5% chloramine-T to type III gypsum showed the most promising result, out of the concentrations tested, as a self-disinfecting dental stone and could be used for further investigations.

AIMS: To compare and evaluate Candida removing effects of three most commonly available varieties of commercial denture cleansers from heat polymerized acrylic resins. To compare and evaluate Candida lytic effects of denture cleansers. To assess the effect of time on ability of denture cleansers in reducing Candidal biofilm. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A specially designed metal mold was fabricated to obtain wax plates of uniform dimensions which were used to fabricate heat cure acrylic resin plates. A square-shaped window of dimension 15 mm and thickness of 1.5 mm was provided in metal mould to simulate thickness of denture base. All samples used in this study were prepared using this mould. Candida albicans colonies were then cultured on this acrylic resin plates by colonization assay. Yeast removing test for samples was performed using microscope and yeast lytic test was performed using photo colorimeter. RESULTS: Denture cleanser D2 showed the highest Candida removing activity when compared with cleansers D1, D3, and control solution. Denture cleansers D2 showed increased yeast lytic ability when compared with denture cleansers D1, D3, and control solution. More time span shared a definite influence on yeast lytic ability of denture cleansers. CONCLUSIONS: The effect of cleansing agents on removal of colonized yeasts particularly fungal biofilm from acrylic resins was assessed for clinical implications. The observation indicated superior performance of cleanser D2 when compared with D1 and D3 even though they all belong to same chemical group of alkaline peroxide. The increased effectiveness may be due to presence of sodium lauryl sulphate in formula of D2.
