RESUMO
The Mirizzi syndrome is recognized as an external compression of the common hepatic duct by a calculus impacted in the cystic duct. Although it is a rare condition, the diagnosis is important because of the resemblance to malignant strictures in the biliary tract. Two cases diagnosed preoperatively by ERCP are reported.

In a prospective randomized clinical trial comprising 22 postmenopausal women with backache and a halisteretic spine with crush fracture(s), 12 women completed a 12-week therapy with sodium fluoride, calcium and calciferol and 10 with placebo. A statistically significant improvement (p less than 0.05), evaluated by a four-stage scale on pains, infirmity, and consumption of analgesics, was observed in the actively treated patients.

The presence of small intestinal diverticula was examined in a family of eight siblings. Six of the siblings had diverticula of the duodenum and/or the jejunoileal tract. Three of them had multiple jejunoileal diverticula, one had two jejunal diverticula, and two had duodenal diverticula. In addition, diseases of an immunologic nature were present in four of the siblings (rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, myxoedema following thyroiditis, and non-viral hepatitis).

The value of a depot cobalamin preparation Betolvex (cyanocobalamin-tannin complex suspended in a sesame-oil aluminum-monostearate gel) in the maintenance therapy of pernicious anaemia was investigated in 120 patients followed up for between 8 and 15 years. Complete haematological remission was maintained in all patients, and none developed B12 neuropathy after the start of treatment. No side-effects were observed. The mean values of S-cobalamin were above the reference limits when 1 mg cobalamin was given every 2 months, and high within the reference limits when given at 3 monthly intervals. The cobalamin content in the liver tissue in 2 patients who had received 1 mg cobalamin every 3 months for 6 years revealed normal values. Thus, 1 mg of the depot cobalamin preparation given at intervals of 3 months should provide adequate maintenance therapy in pernicious anaemia.
