BACKGROUND: Urinary tract cancers including bladder, kidney, ureter, and pelvis are a common malignancy worldwide with high mortality ratio. Aimed to investigate the prevalence of these cancers, we conducted this study. METHODS: In this study, all the information related to ICD10 codes, gender, age and province of residence of individuals were obtained from the data of Iran's cancer registry by the Ministry of Health, Medicine and Medical Education and demographic evidence for each sub-country from the reports of Statistics Center of Iran (SCI). Also, the data of two Iranian national survey studies CASPIAN-III, IV, and V (information related to the care and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCD) in childhood and adolescence) and STEPs (including information on NCD in adults over 18 years old) were used. The data was analyzed using Poisson regression with mixed effects to estimate the incidence of cancers. RESULTS: Bladder and kidney neoplasm are the most common cancers of the urinary system in Iran. The prevalence of bladder cancer has increased from 5.82 to 11.50 per 100,000 individuals. The increasing trend is growing faster in men compared with women. The incidence of kidney neoplasm has increased over the years (2.03 in 2005 vs. 7.02 in 2020 per 100,000). Having a higher incidence ratio compared with bladder cancer, kidney cancer is responsible for 35.06% of all urinary cancers in 2020 compared with 23.71% in 2005. Both neoplasms of the ureter and renal pelvis were recorded rarely and with lower incidence in both sexes during this period. CONCLUSION: Considering the increasing trend in the incidence of urinary neoplasms in Iran during these years, the advantage of focusing on the risk of urinary cancers is highlighted. Therefore, investigating the prevalence and incidence of urinary cancers to plan and manage these cancers will result in prevention and reduction of the disease burden on the Iranian society. Future studies in this field can help in the prevention and well-timed diagnosis of these cancers.

BACKGROUND: Cancer is a major health problem and cause of mortality worldwide. Despite the prevalence of other cancers in males and females, genital cancers are especially important because of their psychological effects on individuals. Currently, cervical cancer, corpus uteri neoplasm, and ovarian cancer are the most common gynecological cancers in Iran. Prostate cancer has increased in Iranian men in the last decade. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the 15-year national trend in the incidence of genital cancers in the Iranian population. METHODS: In this study, we used Iranian cancer registration data collected by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, demographic information from the reports of the Statistics Center of Iran, STEPs (STEPwise approach to non-communicable diseases risk factor surveillance), and Caspian (childhood and adolescence surveillance and prevention of adult non-communicable disease). A list of potential auxiliary variables and secondary variables at all levels of the province-age-sex were evaluated during the years. We used mixed-effects Poisson regression to model the data and calculate the incidence of each cancer. RESULTS: Our results show an enhancement in the outbreak of all types of male cancers, but the most important are prostate (11.46 in 2005 to 25.67 in 2020 per 100,000 males) and testicular cancers (2.39 in 2005 to 5.05 per 100,000 males). As for female cancers, there has been an increase in ovarian and corpus uteri neoplasm incidence with 6.69 and 4.14 incidences per 100,000 females in 2020, making them the most occurring female genital neoplasms. While the occurrence of cervical cancer has decreased over the years (4.65 in 2005 to 3.24 in 2020). In general, the incidence of genital cancers in men and women has amplified in the last 15 years. CONCLUSIONS: Our study examined the trend of change for each malignant genital neoplasm for 15 years in Iranian men and women in each province. Considering the growing trend of the elderly population in Iran, patient awareness and early screening are essential in reducing mortality and costs imposed on patients and the health care system.

The perception of sound textures, a class of natural sounds defined by statistical sound structure such as fire, wind, and rain, has been proposed to arise through the integration of time-averaged summary statistics. Where and how the auditory system might encode these summary statistics to create internal representations of these stationary sounds, however, is unknown. Here, using natural textures and synthetic variants with reduced statistics, we show that summary statistics modulate the correlations between frequency organized neuron ensembles in the awake rabbit inferior colliculus (IC). These neural ensemble correlation statistics capture high-order sound structure and allow for accurate neural decoding in a single trial recognition task with evidence accumulation times approaching 1 s. In contrast, the average activity across the neural ensemble (neural spectrum) provides a fast (tens of milliseconds) and salient signal that contributes primarily to texture discrimination. Intriguingly, perceptual studies in human listeners reveal analogous trends: the sound spectrum is integrated quickly and serves as a salient discrimination cue while high-order sound statistics are integrated slowly and contribute substantially more toward recognition. The findings suggest statistical sound cues such as the sound spectrum and correlation structure are represented by distinct response statistics in auditory midbrain ensembles, and that these neural response statistics may have dissociable roles and time scales for the recognition and discrimination of natural sounds.

Arsenic trioxide (ATO) and statins have been demonstrated to have anti-neoplastic properties; however, the data regarding their combination therapy is limited. Thus, we aimed to study the effects of ATO, Simvastatin and their combination in proliferation, apoptosis and pathological angiogenesis in prostate cancer cell lines. The human prostate cell lines were treated with different concentrations of Simvastatin and ATO alone and combined to find effective doses and IC50 values. In addition, the percentage of apoptotic cells was evaluated by annexin/PI staining, and mRNA expression levels of the apoptotic gene, including OPN isoforms and VEGF, were investigated using real-time PCR. Our data displayed that Simvastatin (12 and 8 µM in PC3 and LNCaP cell lines respectively), ATO (8 and 5 µM in PC3 and LNCaP cell lines respectively), and also their combination (12 µM Simvastatin and 8 µM ATO in PC3, 8 µM Simvastatin and 5 µM ATO in LNCaP cell lines respectively) significantly increased the percentage of apoptotic cells. Also, we showed that the combination therapy by Simvastatin and ATO increased cell apoptosis and inhibited cell proliferation, providing anti-proliferative and anti-angiogenic properties, possibly via downregulation of the expression of VEGF and OPN genes. These results provide new perceptions regarding the anticancer roles of ATO and statins' combination therapy in prostate cancer.

Visual one-step simultaneous detection of low-abundance methylation is a crucial challenge in early cancer diagnosis in a simple manner. Through the design of a closed split bipolar electrochemistry system (BE), detection of promoter methylation of tumor suppressor genes in papillary thyroid cancer, RASSF1A and SLC5A8, was achieved using electrochemiluminescence. For this purpose, electrochemiluminescence of luminol loaded into the Fe3O4@UiO-66 and gold nanorod-functionalized graphite-like carbon nitride nanosheet (AuNRs@C3N4 NS), separately, on the anodic and cathodic pole bipolar electrodes (BPEs) in two different chambers of a bipolar cell were recorded on a smartphone camera. To provide the same electric potential (ΔEelec) through the BPEs to conduct simultaneous light emission, as well as to achieve higher sensitivity, anodic and cathodic poles BPEs were separately connected to ruthenium nanoparticles electrodeposited on nitrogen-doped graphene-coated Cu foam (fCu/N-GN/RuNPs) to provide a hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and polycatechol-modified reduced graphene oxide/pencil graphite electrode (PC-rGO/PGE) to provide electrooxidation of hydrazine. Moreover, taking advantages of the strong cathodic ECL activity due to the roles of AuNRs, as well as the high density of capture probes on the UiO-66 and Fe3O4 roles in improving the signal-to-background ratio (S/B) in complicated plasma media, a sensitive visual ECL immunosensor was developed to detect two different genes as model target analytes in patient plasma samples. The ability of discrimination of methylation levels as low as 0.01% and above 90% clinical sensitivity in thyroid cancer patient plasma implies that the present strategy is able to diagnose cancer early, as well as monitor responses of patients to therapeutic agents.

Infection prevention protocols are the accepted standard to control nosocomial infections. These protective measures intensified after the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic to reduce the risk of viral transmission. It is the rationale that this practice reduces nosocomial infections. We evaluated the impact of these protective measures on nosocomial infections in our center with more than 20,000 records of annual patient admission. In a retrospective study, we evaluated the incidence of nosocomial infections in Sina hospital for 9 months (April-December 2020) during the COVID-19 period and compared it with the 8 months in the pre-COVID period (April-November 2019). Despite decreasing the number of admissions during the COVID era (hospitalizations showed a reduction of 43.79%), the total hospital nosocomial infections remained unchanged; 4.73% in the pre-COVID period versus 4.78% during the COVID period. During the COVID period the infection percentages increased in the cardiovascular care unit (p-value = 0.002) and intensive care units (p-value = 0.045), and declined in cardiology (p-value = 0.046) and neurology (p-value = 0.019) wards. This study showed that intensifying the infection prevention protocols is important in decreasing the nosocomial infections in some wards (cardiology and neurology). Still, we saw increased nosocomial infection in some wards, e.g., the intensive care unit (ICU) and coronary care unit (CCU). Thus, enhanced infection prevention protocols implemented in hospitals to prevent the spread of a pandemic infection may not always decrease rates of other hospital-acquired infections during a pandemic. Due to limited resources, transfer of staff, and staff shortage due to quarantine measures may prohibit improved prevention procedures from effectively controlling nosocomial infections.

The auditory neural code is resilient to acoustic variability and capable of recognizing sounds amongst competing sound sources, yet, the transformations enabling noise robust abilities are largely unknown. We report that a hierarchical spiking neural network (HSNN) optimized to maximize word recognition accuracy in noise and multiple talkers predicts organizational hierarchy of the ascending auditory pathway. Comparisons with data from auditory nerve, midbrain, thalamus and cortex reveals that the optimal HSNN predicts several transformations of the ascending auditory pathway including a sequential loss of temporal resolution and synchronization ability, increasing sparseness, and selectivity. The optimal organizational scheme enhances performance by selectively filtering out noise and fast temporal cues such as voicing periodicity, that are not directly relevant to the word recognition task. An identical network arranged to enable high information transfer fails to predict auditory pathway organization and has substantially poorer performance. Furthermore, conventional single-layer linear and nonlinear receptive field networks that capture the overall feature extraction of the HSNN fail to achieve similar performance. The findings suggest that the auditory pathway hierarchy and its sequential nonlinear feature extraction computations enhance relevant cues while removing non-informative sources of noise, thus enhancing the representation of sounds in noise impoverished conditions.

Circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) has been considered as a diagnostic source to track genetic and epigenetic alterations in cancer. We aimed to study mutation in addition to the methylation status in the promoter regions of RASSF1 and SLC5A8 genes in tissues and circulating free DNA samples of patients affected with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and thyroid nodules as controls. BRAFV600E mutation was studied by ARMS-scorpion real-time polymerase chain reaction method in 57 PTC and 45 thyroid nodule cases. Methylation status of RASSF1 and SLC5A8 promoter regions was analyzed by methylation-specific high-resolution melting curve analysis. BRAFV600E mutation was found in 39 (68.4%) out of 57 PTC tissue samples, while in 33 (49.1%) cases of cfDNA, this mutation was detected. The frequency of BRAFV600E mutation in cfDNA was significantly different between metastatic and nonmetastatic PTC cases (22 of 33 PTC cases vs. 5 of 34 thyroid nodule samples). Methylation levels of three promoter regions of SLC5A8 and proximal promoter region of RASSF1 was significantly different between PTC and thyroid nodule cases in both cfDNA and tissue DNA. In addition, the methylation status of these two genes in tissue DNA was reflected in methylation status observed in cfDNA. This study confirmed that BRAFV600E mutation is better for discrimination between papillary thyroid carcinoma and thyroid nodules. On the other hand, hypermethylation in the more proximal promoter regions to RASSF1 and SLC5A8 genes showed higher sensitivity and more acceptable specificity for this discrimination.

BACKGROUND: Several factors such as recipient age, BMI, serum cratinine, and positive history of dialysis are important in predicting graft survival among kidney transplant recipients. One factor affecting the transplant outcomes is donors and recipients gender, which is usually ignored. METHODS: A total of 1113 kidney transplant recipients were studied in this retrospective cohort study. Several factors were taken into account for graft survival and outcomes such as donors and recipients gender and age in addition to common recipient factors like cratinine, eGFR, BMI, and positive history of dialysis. RESULTS: The most successful transplant based on donor-recipient gender was observed in male donor to male recipient, and then male donor to female recipient. In female transplant recipients, level of serum cratinine and eGFR, positive dialysis history before transplant, and low donor hemoglobin level can be considered as good prognostic factors recommended for kidney transplant survival. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggested gender matching for kidney transplant. Only in some exceptional conditions, male donor to female recipient kidney transplant may be successful and female donors to male recipients are not suggested, especially in aged patients with the history of dialysis.

Obesity is a medical situation in which excess body fat has gathered because of imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. In spite of the fact that the variety of studies are available for obesity treatment and management, its "globesity" still remains a big challenge all over the world. The current systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and mechanisms of effective herbal medicines in the management and treatment of obesity and metabolic syndrome in human. We systematically searched all relevant clinical trials via Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, and the Cochrane database to assess the effects of raw or refined products derived from plants or parts of plants on obesity and metabolic syndrome in overweight and obesity adult subjects. All studies conducted by the end of May 2019 were considered in the systematic review. Data were extracted independently by two experts. The quality assessment was assessed using Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials checklist. The main outcomes were anthropometric indices and metabolic syndrome components. Pooled effect of herbal medicines on obesity and metabolic syndrome were presented as standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). A total of 279 relevant clinical trials were included. Herbals containing green tea, Phaseolus vulgaris, Garcinia cambogia, Nigella sativa, puerh tea, Irvingia gabonensis, and Caralluma fimbriata and their active ingredients were found to be effective in the management of obesity and metabolic syndrome. In addition, C. fimbriata, flaxseed, spinach, and fenugreek were able to reduce appetite. Meta-analysis showed that intake of green tea resulted in a significant improvement in weight ([SMD]: -0.75 [-1.18, -0.319]), body mass index ([SMD]: -1.2 [-1.82, -0.57]), waist circumference ([SMD]: -1.71 [-2.66, -0.77]), hip circumference ([SMD]: -0.42 [-1.02, -0.19]), and total cholesterol, ([SMD]: -0.43 [-0.77, -0.09]). In addition, the intake of P. vulgaris and N. sativa resulted in a significant improvement in weight ([SMD]: -0.88, 95 % CI: [-1.13, -0.63]) and triglyceride ([SMD]: -1.67, 95 % CI: [-2.54, -0.79]), respectively. High quality trials are still needed to firmly establish the clinical efficacy of the plants in obesity and metabolic syndrome.

Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most common type of cancer among thyroid malignancies. Tumor-related methylation of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in plasma could represent tumor specific alterations can be considered as good biomarkers in circulating tumor cells. In this study, we studied the methylation status of seven promoter regions of two DNA methyl Transferases (MGMT and DNMT1) genes as the methylated ctDNA in plasma and tissue samples of patients with PTC and goiter patients as noncancerous controls. METHODS: Both ctDNA and tissue genomic DNA of 57 PTC and 45 Goiter samples were isolated. After bisulfite modification, the methylation status was studied by Methylation-Sensitive High Resolution Melting (MS-HRM) assay technique. Four promoter regions of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) and three promoter regions of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) were assessed. RESULTS: From seven candidate promoter regions of two methyltrasferase coding genes, the methylation status of ctDNA within MGMT (a), MGMT (c), MGMT (d), and DNMT1 (b) were meaningfully different between PTC cases and controls. However, the most significant differences were seen in circulating ctDNA MGMT (c) which was hypermethylated in 25 (43.9 %) of patients with PTC vs 2 (4. 4 %) of goiter samples. Between two selected DNA methyl transferase, the methylation of MGMT as the maintenance methyltransferase was significantly higher in PTC cases than goiter controls (P-value < .001). The resulting areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were 0.78 for MGMT (d) for PTC versus goiter samples that can represent the overall ability of MGMT (d) methylation status to discriminate between PTC and goiter patients. CONCLUSION: Among seven candidate regions of ctDNA the MGMT (c) and MGMT (d) showed higher sensitivity and specificity for PTC as a suitable candidates as biomarkers of PTC.

To communicate effectively animals need to detect temporal vocalization cues that vary over several orders of magnitude in their amplitude and frequency content. This large range of temporal cues is evident in the power-law scale-invariant relationship between the power of temporal fluctuations in sounds and the sound modulation frequency (f). Though various forms of scale invariance have been described for natural sounds, the origins and implications of scale invariant phenomenon remain unknown. Using animal vocalization sequences, including continuous human speech, and a stochastic model of temporal amplitude fluctuations we demonstrate that temporal acoustic edges are the primary acoustic cue accounting for the scale invariant phenomenon. The modulation spectrum of vocalization sequences and the model both exhibit a dual regime lowpass structure with a flat region at low modulation frequencies and scale invariant 1/f2 trend for high modulation frequencies. Moreover, we find a time-frequency tradeoff between the average vocalization duration of each vocalization sequence and the cutoff frequency beyond which scale invariant behavior is observed. These results indicate that temporal edges are universal features responsible for scale invariance in vocalized sounds. This is significant since temporal acoustic edges are salient perceptually and the auditory system could exploit such statistical regularities to minimize redundancies and generate compact neural representations of vocalized sounds.

RESUMO

Recent advances in immunotherapeutic modalities have profoundly changed the prospect of cancer treatment. These modalities mainly focus on modulating the immune response toward tumor cells by using monoclonal antibodies, cancer vaccines, adoptive cell transfer or combination of these methods. In the last few years, Iranian scientists have conducted several projects in these arenas. Here, we provide an overview of these studies and analyze the quality and trend of publications in each sub-specialty of the field. In addition, the contribution of different universities and scientific institutes is assessed. This study may benefit scientific community and policymakers to plan future cancer immunotherapies in Iran and other countries.

RESUMO

The standard androgen deprivation therapy for advanced prostate cancer includes the use of bicalutamide, which is a well-known antagonist of androgen receptors. Despite numerous benefits of the drugs in prostate cancer treatment, there is always a risk of developing a resistant phenotype, which paves the way for a more aggressive and low-survival type of prostate cancer. Over the years, many studies have investigated the candidate mechanisms of such resistance and have managed to find possible therapeutic solutions. In this Review, we shed light on the heterogeneous dynamics of progression to resistance against bicalutamide treatment, referring to the most recent studies and the approaches that have been so far discussed. This Review tries to offer a deep and comprehensive understanding about how the resistant cells become sensitive to the drug and what corresponding pathways lead to an appropriate solution for the antiandrogen resistance challenge.

Standard enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays based on microplates are frequently utilized for various molecular sensing, disease screening, and nanomedicine applications. Comparing this multi-well plate batched analysis to non-batched or non-standard testing, the diagnosis expenses per patient are drastically reduced. However, the requirement for rather big and pricey readout instruments prevents their application in environments with limited resources, especially in the field. In this work, a handheld cellphone-based colorimetric microplate reader for quick, credible, and novel analysis of digital images of human cancer cell lines at a reasonable price was developed. Using our in-house-developed app, images of the plates are captured and sent to our servers, where they are processed using a machine learning algorithm to produce diagnostic results. Using FDA-approved human epididymis protein of ovary IgG (HE4), prostate cancer cell line (PC3), and bladder cancer cell line (5637) ELISA tests, we successfully examined this mobile platform. The accuracies for the HE4, PC3, and 5637 tests were 93%, 97.5%, and 97.2%, respectively. By contrasting the findings with the measurements made using optical absorption EPOCH microplate readers and optical absorption Tecan microplate readers, this approach was found to be accurate and effective. As a result, digital image colorimetry on smart devices offered a practical, user-friendly, affordable, precise, and effective method for quickly identifying human cancer cell lines. Thus, healthcare providers might use this portable device to carry out high-throughput illness screening, epidemiological investigations or monitor vaccination campaigns.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) as a bone marrow stem cell clonal disease appears from the proliferation of granulocyte cells at all stages of maturation. If the disease diagnosis is not early, patients enter the blastic phase, which decreases their survival rate to 3-6 months. It implies the significance of the early diagnosis of CML. In this study, we introduce a simple array for diagnosis of the K562 cells as the human immortalized myeloid leukemia cell line. The developed aptamer-based biosensor (aptasensor) includes the T2-KK1B10 aptamer strands attached to the surface of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNPs) with the cavities accumulated from rhodamine B and coated by both Ca2+ ions and ATP aptamer. The aptamer-based nanoconjugate can enter the K562 cells through the complexation of the T2-KK1B10 aptamer with the cells. The ATP in the cells and low level of intracellular Ca2+ ion release both the aptamer and ion from the surface of the MSNPs. The liberated rhodamine B results in an increased fluorescence intensity. Fluorescence microscope imaging and flow cytometry histogram display a strong fluorescence emission for the K562 cells (CML cells) exposed to the nanoconjugate in comparison with that for MCF-7 cells. The aptasensor possesses good performance in the blood samples with the advantages of high sensitivity, rapidness, and cost-effectiveness, making it an appropriate tool for the diagnosis of CML disease.

INTRODUCTION: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) treatment includes dialysis and kidney transplantation. Transplant rejection is a major barrier to transplant success. One of the markers mentioned in previous studies on renal function in patients with renal failure for various reasons is periostin (POSTN). The expression of POSTN correlates with interstitial fibrosis and reduced renal function. One of the limitations in this regard is the effect of oral lesions on the POSTN level. This study was conducted aimed to measure the relationship between salivary and serum POSTN and renal function in patients with a history of a kidney transplant, taking into account all the conditions affecting POSTN. METHODS: In this study, serum and saliva samples were taken from 23 transplant patients with normal function (NF) and 29 transplant patients with graft failure (GF). At least one year had passed since the transplant. Before sampling, a complete oral examination was performed. Salivary and serum POSTN was examined by ELISA. The results were analyzed by SPSS software. RESULTS: The POSTN level in the serum of the NF group (191.00 ± 33.42) was higher than GF patients (178.71 ± 25.68), but the difference was not significant (P = 0.30). Salivary POSTN in NF patients (2.76 ± 0.35) was significantly higher than GF patients (2.44 ± 0.60) (P = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The superiority of saliva as a diagnostic fluid includes ease of collection and storage, and non-invasiveness, all of which can lead to the replacement of blood with this bio-fluid. The significant results of salivary POSTN may be due to the lack of serum disturbing factors. Saliva is an ultra-filtered fluid from serum and therefore there are fewer proteins and polysaccharides attached to biomarkers in saliva and the accuracy of measuring these biomarkers in the saliva is more valuable than serum.

Introduction: Some gene expression regulation in cancers can be controlled by epigenetic change like methylation. PTEN promoter methylation and expression were evaluated in endometrial cancer. Methods: The study was run on 39 tumor tissues of endometrial cancer patients and 41 normal endometrial tissues. After total RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis was done by reverse transcription of the total (real-time PCR) using SYBER Green master mix. DNA extraction and bisulfite treatment were conducted and methylation was semiquantified by the methylation-sensitive high-resolution melting method. Finally, promoter methylation quantification of the total number of 25 tumors and 22 non-neoplastic tissues was done. Results: PTEN gene expression showed a significant decrease in endometrial cancer tissues. Promoter methylation was significantly lower in the non-neoplastic group (7.2; p < 0.001). In addition, PTEN promoter methylation was observed in 52.0% of tumor tissues compared with 13.6% in the non-neoplastic group (p = 0.06). There were no significant correlations between PTEN expression and methylation and clinicopathological features in endometrial cancer patients (p > 0.05). Conclusion: PTEN gene expression in endometrial cancer tissues decreased because of its promoter hypermethylation.

INTRODUCTION: Kidney transplantation is the optimal treatment strategy for some end-stage renal disease (ESRD); however, graft survival and the success of the transplantation depend on several elements, including the genetics of recipients. In this study, we evaluated exon loci variants based on a high-resolution Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) method. METHODS: We evaluated whole-exome sequencing (WES) of transplanted kidney recipients in a prospective study. The study involved a total of 10 patients (5 without a history of rejection and 5 with). About five milliliters of blood were collected for DNA extraction, followed by whole-exome sequencing based on molecular inversion probes (MIPs). RESULTS: Sequencing and variant filtering identified nine pathogenic variants in rejecting patients (low survival). Interestingly, in five patients with successful kidney transplantation, we found 86 SNPs in 63 genes 61 were variants of uncertain significance (VUS), 5 were likely pathogenic, and five were likely benign/benign. The only overlap between rejecting and non-rejecting patients was SNPs rs529922492 in rejecting and rs773542127 in non-rejecting patients' MUC4 gene. CONCLUSIONS: Nine variants of rs779232502, rs3831942, rs564955632, rs529922492, rs762675930, rs569593251, rs192347509, rs548514380, and rs72648913 have roles in short graft survival.
